This dragon tail commission was pretty straightforward compared to others I've done recently. It's made of anodized aluminum, primarily green, with an underbelly of brown and a single line of brown down the spine. As always, the scales are linked together with stainless steel rings in a chainmail pattern. This one is 30 inches long, slightly smaller than my default length. Good for someone who's a bit shorter than I.

I had a lot of fun getting photos of it swinging around.

Daylight Savings Time meant that it was dark by the time I was able to get photos taken, but oh well. I'll be shipping this out to the commissioner tomorrow.

It’s a dragon tail! Surprising nobody!

Blue anodized aluminum with a stripe of yellow, and an underbelly of plain aluminum. This one measures in at 2 pounds 10 ounces and 29.5 inches long. It’s also got a lobster clasp that you can see just barely right at the tip.

And I grabbed a quick shot of the belt loop attachment, because it’s been a while since I posted a photo of that.

I’ve got a pile of masks to produce in the next week, but I’m planning on opening for May commission requests over the weekend.

Well, after dropping off the map for a while, I’m back with a completed dragon tail commission. This one is in anodized aluminum with blue, purple and “frost” colors. It’s a full-length tail, measuring in at 34 inches from tip to the top of the belt, and weighing in at 3 pounds 6 ounces. It also has a full line of spikes down the spine.

The frost scales have a lustrous, buffed sort of finish, rather than a typical bare-metal finish. The last pair of photos show it next to a patch of standard aluminum. It doesn’t reflect light as intensely, so it doesn’t get the very bright highlights from point light sources. Instead it scatters light more broadly, so it ends up looking more consistently bright in a variety of lighting conditions.

In case people are wondering why I vanished, I was moving apartments, then had a death in the family. I’m getting back into the swing of life again now. And also, I’ve finally nearly worked out a sustainable solution to the problem of laser-cutter access. More updates on that to follow in the next few days, once I finish my other outstanding tail commission.
