Thought I’d make a little post about the differences between Cajun/Creole and Hoodoo/Vodou, because as I’ve told y’all previously I’ve noticed so many inaccuracies in fics when it comes to Benny’s character.

Cajun: The Cajuns, also known as Louisiana Acadians, are a Louisiana French ethnicity mainly found in the U.S. state of Louisiana (According To Wikipedia).

Ancestry: Cajun, descendant of Roman Catholic French Canadians whom the British, in the 18th century, drove from the captured French colony of Acadia (now Nova Scotia and adjacent areas) and who settled in the fertile bayou lands of southern Louisiana.

Today the understanding is that most Cajuns are white.

Creole: In present Louisiana, Creole generally means a person or people of mixed colonial French, African American and Native American ancestry.

The official definition is: a person of mixed European and Black descent, especially in the Caribbean.

Creole peoples are ethnic groups formed during the European colonial era, from the mass displacement of peoples brought into sustained contact with others from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, who converged onto a colonial territory to which they had not previously belonged

It is understood today that most Creoles are Black or Mixed Race.

Thought Id Make A Little Post About The Differences Between Cajun/Creole And Hoodoo/Vodou, Because As

Hoodoo: Hoodoo is a set of spiritual practices, traditions, and beliefs created and concealed from slaveholders by enslaved Africans in North America. Hoodoo evolved from various traditional African religions, practices, and in the American South incorporated with various elements of indigenous botanical knowledge. (According To Wikipedia.)

Hoodoo is also an African American tradition.

Vodou: Haitian Vodou is an African diasporic religion that developed in Haiti between the 16th and 19th centuries. It arose through a process of syncretism between several traditional religions of West and Central Africa and Roman Catholicism. (According To Wikipedia).

Vodou is most commonly practiced by Haitian people.

I’m gonna try and put a few links in an attached post as well, because my Wifi is kinda bad right now. All of this was found through Google too.

Sometimes, I forget about other hurricanes except for Katrina, completely ignoring the fact I was born 5 days before hurricane Rida and almost died during the flight to another hospital.
