LOLL EVEN LASSITER KNOWS THAT'S NOT A GOOD SUBJECT TO BRING UP TOO SHAWN. The fact the man literally sinks down trying to disappear 😭😭

Frr! Ur so right, man. Shawn struggles a lot more socially than he lets on and I didn't really think as deeply about the fact he literally doesn't ever have any other close childhood friends other than gus, but ur so right. I think as a kind of social introvert myself, I can see a lot of my own behaviours in him that I can't quite describe, but they indicate that he isn't as extroverted as he let's on. I don't think he's completely an introvert , but he's deffo more so than he would admit. Its kind of sad because he only ever has close friends from them basically being fourced into knowing him. Gus and him have known each other since they were babies, so we can assume maybe their parents knew each other really well to make it so the two interacted more, maybe ? I remember gus saying that they knew each other when they were 3. Then obviously, juliet , lassie , vick and everyone else was sort of fourced to talk to him. He is sort of capable of making friends, but something about him stops that from happening a lot, and I don't think its just him being loud.

Also tyy again for ur lil post and I'm glad I helped to put into words what u mean :D

Okay, so, I have thoughts. Shawn is actually, very (and I’m not sure if this is the right word, but I don’t have anything else), anti-social. Like, for his entire life basically, his only real friend and connection was Gus. Besides that, we’ve never seen or heard of any other friends— and it’s not even because it’s a T.V show either, because we’ve seen Gus’s old college friends, his friend from his childhood summer camp, as well as his ex wife. Even Lassiter and Juliet got time with other people, Like Lassiter had his old police academy rivalry, (I’m not even going to get into his ex-wife) and And Juliet got an episode where she reunited with an old boyfriend. Even Henry got to reunite with his old cop buddies (okay, sure they were corrupt, but the point still stands). And there’s probably more that I’m forgetting, but that’s all I can remember from the top of my head. And Shawn’s literally the main character!! And he got nothing!! And, like, yes, Lassiter and Juliet are his friends, and I know that it’s just a TV show and I’m thinking wayy too much into it and projecting (I am) but they literally spend like, zero time together outside of work/cases (not counting Juliet and Shawn becoming a couple). And even then that took them like, almost a decade lmao. I think that he gets it from his mom, and I know that we know literally next to nothing about her, but from what we do know, she’s a lot like Shawn in the way that they both just.. Left. Parallels idk.

Anyways, this post was sort of based off of @grapebritain ‘s post about Shawn, because their post allowed me to take some thoughts that I already had and put them into ~words~ so, yeah! Go check that out too. 100%

Hopefully i don't get eaten alive for this psych opinion, but does anyone else get really uncomfy by 'this episode sucks'...?Marlowe really both annoys me and creeps me out. Same with Lassiter (sorry buddy).

I find it really weird that they try and make it romantic that she literally stalks him. First off she calls him his first name somehow which is really creepy if you think about it. Imagine someone just sat next to you , you've never met before and starts using your first name. Second, she admits she literally just sat there, silently waiting and watching for him to come out. Literally observing his every move and that is somehow meant to be romantic...?

Lassie annoys me this entire episode too, he acts extremely irresponsible imo and down right infuriating. He ends up trusting her over his literal closest friends he has known for YEARS, even though they clearly just care about him and want to make sure he's safe.

The touchyness of him and Marlowe that happens almost immediately is also scary, and the fact he isn't insanely creeped out by the crap she does. I hate how they touch each other constantly only a day after they have met each other. It's so out of character for Lassiter considering he's a little introvert half the time and seems like he HATES being touched, or people in his personal space. He's usually sceptical of literally everyone , so the fact he trusts her so blindly is odd to say the least.

idk this episode just freaks me out and annoys me. Not to mention the fact gus and shawn go after ..vampires..? Even though shawn doesn't believe in all that kind of crap. He acs so childish but there isn't any smart charm to it. He's just stupid.

Pretty much everything Shawn does can be pinpointed back to his childhood, and it's sad too see because most of his toxic traits could have been mended if his parents just had a bit of stability, or just where a little less controlling when he was younger.

His relationship with henry for example is one of the most obvious pointers to why Shawn is the way he is.

Shawn HATES losing, he hates not being on top and he hates not being the centre of attention. Even though some of this is ego, a lot of this is to do with self worth issues as well which is why he gets so irritable when people 'beat' him.

One time this behaviour really stuck out to me like a sore thumb was an episode or two after "from earth to starbucks". In the episode itself , shawn helps lassie with his mental health. he gets it so he feels as though he can solve cases again, and as a result of his confidence boast Lassiter really DOES start solving cases on his own much better than he was before. Evethough Shawn clearly was happy for him at first, and does care a whole lot about Lassiter than he would say out loud, a few episodes after when Lassie starts getting TOO good, Shawn starts acting pretty toxic about him and competitive. Which is a little paradoxical when originally he wanted him to be better, and do better than he was before. I'm pretty sure he does anyway cuz i remember watched a few eps after being like "why is he doing that, i thought he wanted him to do better?".

Regardless, Shawn starts getting hostile to people "better" than him because his dad basically engraved into him that if you are anything other than a winner , you are a loser and you see this all the way from episode 1. When shawn wants cake, he has to get all the hats in the room perfect otherwise he won't get anything. This same thing comes up again when he goes to his dad much older now to ask for help. he has to "win" the hat game in order to get anything out of his father. No matter if his dad had good intentions or not with it, mostly only rewarding shawn when he wins and being so intense about being 'the perfect cop' MADE shawn hate being anything other than the top of the top. the best of the best. Especially when it came to police work.

It's why he gets hostile over any form of competition, and even gets more hostile when people in his life show more interest in anyone but him. He does it with Jules, he does it with Lassiter, and i think he may even do it to gus at some stage. Jules it was her boyfriends, because he viewed himself as the 'best' to be with her. He was on top, so he should be the one to be her boyfriend right..? Then with Lassiter, there are two guys that are somewhat similar to shawn, are good at police work and Lassie clearly admires a lot which makes Shawn pretty heated and sulky that Lassie is no longer looking to him. With gus he got annoyed because Lassiter started spending time with him and 'took away' his best friend from him when be believed gus was HIS friend, not Lassies.

life doesn't work as black and white as 'winner and loser' .People don't have to be the 'best of the best 'to 'earn' love and appreciation, which seems to confuse and aggravate Shawn. It sort of makes him insecure. If people like them more, they...must be better than him because the 'best' are only deserving of appreciation. Well, in his eyes anyway. I think some part of him knows thats insanity as he only has this mentality with his own self worth, but because it was programmed into him at such a young age, it isn't something he can easily brush aside.

To him, having someone be admired more than him, to be 'better' than him for even a second basically diminished his value as a person and makes him less deserving. That and he still feels as though hes the best so people should be looking at him (bro has a HUGE ego). A lot of his anger issues have roots in insecurity , especially this one, and i think it's why for a comedy show there is something so....almost tragic about Shawn despite all the jokes and references he makes.

Aw no problemo man! 💜 that makes two or us obsessed with psych and discussing shawn spencer smh. He's just a little mentally ill guy ,and he's just so interesting to look at because he copes so differently with struggles compared to what is typical , or what you see typically in shows. Tysm for the replys too 💜 I adore interacting with people (^∇^)

I was all set to click the original ACD Watson because the original Sherlock Holmes books were what got me into reading, and especially gave me my love for mysteries. But then I saw Gus lol I can’t not pick Gus!

Another from the list of polls I've been wanting to start, this time about your favorite "Watson" or sidekick character in a detective or mystery related piece of media! They can be an adaptation of John Watson or an entirely different character who fills that role, so long as they have a Sherlock-type partner they work with to complete that dynamic.

I can't possibly cover every Watson type character, especially since Tumblr polls only give me 12 options, so I've filled out some on the top of my mind or ones that are more famous, and then there's the "Other" option to support any favorites not on the list.

There's several John Watson adaptations where he's pretty close to the book canon, so I haven't listed all separately here, mostly just ones where there's a more distinct change (modernization, etc.) or he has more focus.

So without further ado:

Please reblog for a larger sample size :)

I really love that the fics about Shawn and Gus tend to be sweet and tender. Shawn letting the mask down for Gus, being vulnerable together, the very definition of soulmates.

And it's like that in canon too, except they are like this 90% of the time

I Really Love That The Fics About Shawn And Gus Tend To Be Sweet And Tender. Shawn Letting The Mask Down

Gus's primary love language is frustration <3

I like to believe that Gus is a full blown 300 IQ genius because then there'd be a rational explanation to his character conveniently spurting the relevant hyper-specific fact of the moment and he befriended Shawn because game recognises game, Shawn was the only one who could challenge him. Gus is tidy genius and Shawn is chaotic genius.

I love how every time we get a Gus focused episode we find out something that both makes complete sense but it also so surprising. It fits with his character so well. He has the appearance of a straight man with his pharmaceutical job and 401k but he’s also the man that believes in curses, demons, and mummies. Got married to a one night stand and my personal favorite, was in an acapella group in college.

I completely agree also the fascinatination with Guster's head

pysch is a cool show with comedy and mystery and whatnot but the real mystery/plot/point of interest is the pineapples. I’m just here for the pineapples really.

(Respectfully) move over Burton Guster with your lunatic sidekick Spencer Shawn or something I just wanna see the pineapples
