riko mori is pretty open about her past once she trusts you and to be trustworthy you basically just gotta be a decent person in her eyes she's quick to note selfishness or other qualities she condemns and it's hard to shift her perception of you once she's established it--briadoc the chosen one can attest to that she'll volunteer information if it's relevant but other than that you kinda have to ask if you want to know something specific riko is my girl w/o a tragic backstory--her characterization is just 'i give a shit bc i give a shit' and she goes about life aggressively giving a shit costia sparowen keeps everything to herself good luck getting her to open up she doesn't trust readily--she'll be pleasant and all but you really have to work to get to know her riko doesn't so much break down those walls as quietly and persistently encourage her to take them down arodryn also keeps shit to himself mostly he's terrified of being a burden or having people view him as anything other than perfectly palatablee *palatable so he doesn't volunteer information about his past and he will typically redirect attention if someone asks callaic kinda breaks down those walls throughout the story--much to arodryn's confusion bc he has no idea how it happens callaic keeps things to himself for most of his life--he's the epitome of the snarky emotionally repressed teenager for a while but after he grows a little he starts to open up and realize that he's not bound to his past and he can grow from mistakes of course his problems from then on are that he doesn't often trust people with himself hmm... i think arodryn and callaic are starting to be a little too similar so i might adjust their characterization or maybe i'll play up how similar they feel but how differently they react and the different reasons they feel the same way that might work briadoc the chosen one

briadoc the chosen one i mean he wouldn't say it bc he doesn't really care about consequences for his actions for a good while but other people will say it about him--much to every other main character's annoyance bc he's not a child even if he acts like one he probably decided that this one action would lead him to his destiny and consulted no one before charging headfirst down that path callaic would probably actually say this largely because he's the epitome of 'curiosity killed the cat' he probably touched something he shouldn't have--he fixed it himself though! as he gets older his risk-benefit meter becomes a bit more accurate callaic cares about consequences and will restrain himself if he thinks his actions will hurt anyone but uh. sometimes he fails to see how consequences might affect others it's like when people say 'i only speed when no one else is in the car with me bc i'm only putting myself at risk then' and it's like 'and what about the other people on the road?' 'oh' briadoc is more like 'my destiny guarantees my actions will benefit the world so i don't have to consider how they affect individuals' so they have this in common but there's some subtle differences in how they perceive their fuckups also sorry op i'm literally going through your blog and reblogging everything that might apply to my characters with like 1235312532 tags attached to each post i just hit a snag so i created a blog to help develop the world and characters a little more

briadoc the chosen one but he won't admit it while he was born in a port city he grew up in a city swathed in a mountainside and far from great bodies of water the first time he sees the ocean--with great swelling waves and endless skyline--he nearly passes out nothing really happened--but he was old enough to remember fishermen's tales about the the ocean *he was old enough in the port city to remember but without any good memories of the ocean to counter them and they have endless stories about drowning in an ocean so large that no one can hear you scream and stories about how if you go too deep then you'll get disoriented and can't find your way back up a trick from mischievous sirens and ocean nymphs who delight in watching men drown at least with caves and large forests you have a bit of time to find your way out but getting lost beneath the surface of a sea? with all the weight of water pressing down on you and precious few seconds to escape? plus there's all the stories about what great beasts lie beneath the waves--many of which are true bc hey it's fantasy so yeah briadoc's freaked about large bodies of water

hmm... gonna focus on the high fantasy story for this one callaic grows serious--his laser focus kinda makes people afraid of him at times briadoc gets cocky--he doesn't always feel that way but he wants you to think he's invincible (and tries to convince himself that he is) riko is kinda like a mix between callaic and briadoc--she's serious but she's also trying to psych people out with her confidence arodryn either gets really quiet (he does this when afraid) or tries to ignore his own worries by comforting others costia looks for ways to dispel nervous energy--she's always found comfort in crafting so you might find her forging a new blade callaic briadoc the chosen one riko mori arodryn costia sparowen
