Every passing day I get more and more sad at how ruby gillman did not turn out like my au idea. I literally have the rewrite, parts of a series, AND AN IDEA FOR THE START OF A POSSIBLE SEQUEL. Seriously, I’m actually mad Bc this movie has/had so much potential. Hell, I’d be fine with the movie being kept how it was, if they at least marketed it better and put it out a better time window (even tho I’d prefer my version so much more). Like, get dreamworks on the phone honey and let’s redo this idc if mfs clown on us saying “lmao they’re rereleasing this movie and got a fucking rando from archive of our own to give them a better version” uhh heck yeah (honestly I wouldn’t mind if they stole my idea and redid the movie). Plus lmao, idk about you but honestly I think I could care less if they put out a different version and just call it Ruby Gillman: THE Teenage Kraken, if Disney can make a live action remake of a movie that isn’t even what ten years old with Dwayne fucking Johnson, then they can do that. Idc about the state of Hollywood I just want my girl done justice on the screen.

I’ve got a pretty good start for an idea for the ruby gillman sequel (just to let y’all know the main plot heavily borrows from the fanfic breaking the generational cycle. If y’all haven’t read that, PLS go read it now on AO3 it’s amazing, bless the writer for that). Ruby, Agatha, grandmama, and Chelsea all start getting precognitive nightmares, either involving the leviathan in some aspect or they see into the future somewhat (but details about the situation are foggy, possibly literally Bc some things in the dream that are meant to be people might be literal fog/smoke in the nightmares). The reason being them destroying the trident is releasing a leviathan from its magical binds that were made with the trident in the first place, and the magic made it where the trident needed to be intact for the magic to be in place. The magic also works where the people who destroyed the trident or were holding it/closest to it get those nightmares as a warning that what they did was not good lmao. Also, in one of Ruby’s dreams she possibly is working with Chelsea or sees Chelsea hurt and calls out to her with that name, not nerissa, and this possibly leads to ruby talking to her and finding out the real truth about her and the mermaids (who btw are not evil for evils sake, I’m having it where grandmama only thinks the mermaids are evil Bc nerissa was a tyrant who made the mermaids attack the kraken kingdom for glory/power). Also, some other things, I am maybe having it where chelsea pretended to be her mother to honor her maybe, Bc she would have killed 3 giant krakens and they would have died thinking it was their old enemy. Something like that I guess. Also mermaids do age lmao, that was just something stupid chelsea made up. But some other things, chelsea reveals the actual story, she wasn’t living with the other mermaids Bc nerissa was banished from them for waging and losing the war when she was just pregnant with Chelsea (chelseas dad died sometime before the war maybe), chelsea knew where to look on land for the gillmans bc nerissa told her (yes nerissa did actually die trying to get the trident, and the reason she knew where it was is Bc she stalked the kraken kingdom literally every day and saw agatha hiding it as well as coming to land). So yeah. That’s basically the start of it. It’s very complicated, idk if I’ll make this a whole fanfic, but I would love to. I’ll have to see.
Sup y’all. If anyone is interested I’ve started working on a new rewrite. Now, this one is very short compared to the other one I’ve been doing. This one is like a more realistic take on what the movie could have actually been like. Although it doesn’t have a lot of things I like about the other one, this one is very short and sweet and gets the job done, not to mention I feel like the lore in this one is less contrived or isn’t as complicated. It’ll make sense when I release it and get done with the other one. This one will be done by probably Sunday. Lmk what y’all think of this first chapter.

Ruby Gillman: The Call of the Leviathan (Sequel Fanfic Idea)
Summary: After getting precognitive nightmares about the Leviathan, a giant mighty mythical sea snake feared by all, Ruby Gillman soon learns that she has made the grave mistake of indirectly releasing the beast from its ancient magical bonds. The task to undo this mistake is not an easy one by a long shot, and the key to it working is an alliance so shocking and unorthodox that it may just be insane enough to work. If this mission does not go according to plan, it may lead to the destruction of everything Ruby holds dear in her life. No pressure, right?
