The Eu is using the WM to cover up this whole Article 13 bullshit. This just shows us how wrong it is.

The European Parliament voted against the Copyright Directive in a 318-278 vote. It will be debated in full in September leading to a new proposal. We won this battle, but the war is not over yet.

EVERYONE PLEASE LISTEN. DO NOT IGNORE THIS.

Article 13 is going into it’s final stages of voting.

If this gets through, it will allow many, many companies to abuse and misuse this article to take down as many memes, fan works, and even other independent creators on sites like YouTube, Facebook, and other websites INCLUDING Tumblr.

THE FAIR USE LAW AND SAFEHARBOR LAW WILL NO LONGER APPLY IN THE U.S OR IN OTHER COUNTRIES.

IT HAS ALREADY PASSED IN SEVERAL OTHER COUNTRIES.

WE CANNOT ALLOW THEM TO TAKE AWAY WHAT WE BUILT FOR THE INTERNET SO FAR.

So here is what you need to do to drag this article down.

1. Spread the word

I can’t stress this enough. The more attention this gets the more people we can get to take this down.

2. Make your own content

Make your own content on the matter and make sure it is clear to others that Article 13 is bad for every internet user involved.

3. If you live anywhere in Europe, contact your MEPs

Ask them if they approve of the article and why. If they do approve of it, try to convince them in a clear, reasonable, and most sensible way possible that this law is BAD.

The article itself is way to vague about what it’s conveying to its people.

Saying that as long as the use of said internet memes or content is good as long as it’s in “good faith.”

We cannot let some shoddy government tell us what we can and cannot post.

FREE SPEECH IS A HUMAN RIGHT. NOT A PRIVILEGE.

Here’s a video on Article 13 that Film Theory made on the matter. It will explain things better than I can.

This isn’t the first time some5ung like this has happened

Do any of you remember Article 13 from back in 2018 or 2016? Yeah the KOSA bill is eerily similar to that, and vice versa

The US lawmakers are starting to try and crack down on the internet in general, I think it’s because their afraid, afraid of the power we hold, and thus act to try and silence us, to my knowledge, Article 13 was the first of these kind of bills to try and limit the internet, the KOSA bill is almost the same thing simplified and stretched to an extrene

Fuck KOSA. we have to stop it, kill KOSA alike we killed Article 13

Hello again!

For all European friends out there, or just friend over all,

there is a piece of legislation that is in the final stage of completion in the EU that could change the internet forever, for those in Europe and not! This legislation is Article 13, and it potentially shut down tons of content that you have come to love as it has vague language which would allow big companies to abuse internet content sources. This could affect people outside of the EU too as such content sources like Youtube, Tumblr, and the like alter their overall systems to fit the most strict legislations.

Pls see the video below! It explains this problem a lot better and talks about how we can stop it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbXHrj8k7dg

Have you heard of article 13? It's a law being passed in Europe that is strengthening copyright to the point where content creators can't upload their content, such as memes. This is starting in Europe, but can spread internationally. If you haven't heard of it, you should look it up.

Since I’m Eurpoean, yes, I heard of it from the very beginning. I signed the petition and I made Tweets about it. Heck, I even tried calling but the lines probably were already on fire because I couldn’t reach anyone. If this gets through, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post my fanart again… all I can do is hope that those old grandpas with their incredibly outdated backwards mentality on top of the EU realize that this is incredibly stupid, will kill a lot of the internet how it is today (not just for the EU), it will make it impossible for new platforms to form and ultimately drastically limits the freedom of speech since fair use will be close to impossible - because that’s a thing that can’t be judged by algorithms. Freedom of speech is, by the way, a human right. Article 13 simply shouldn’t be allowed to get passed the way it is, period. Maybe I’m naive, who knows, but it looks like that.

I get that copyrights are something important, and I get a bit bitter about people reposting my art even though I keep saying that I don’t like it, too - but there’d be a simple solution for this: Make it easier and faster to report stolen content. I mean, have you ever tried to report a stolen artwork on instagram? It makes you feel like YOU’RE the criminal for reporting it because the form you need to fill out is just ridiculous. Give us a report button, let me put a quick “this picture belongs to me” as an option and let me link my original source, then place actual people behind this to work on these reports so it can be judged accordingly and we’re good to go! You know what’s funny? DeviantArt had exactly that option back when I started there - which isn’t possible anymore, for reasons I simply can’t understand. Youtube’s algorithms suck, yes. That’s why they need to put more people in charge to overlook those reports and that’s it. And that a solution like this could be so easy yet nobody thinks of this is just… it blows my mind. The law should enforce to make it easy to report stolen content, not to control every single freaking snipped of stuff you ever put somewhere, that’s ridiculous!

I could rant on and on on this, but instead I’ll just leave a link here to the petition because guess what, a lot of people don’t really seem to care? And that’s incredibly sad because it might blow up in all our faces and people just seem to lazy to understand how it may affect all of us. Either way, sorry for the rant, thank you for readin if you made it this far! And if you haven’t signed it, here’s the link for the petition everyone can sign:
