Y/n had been watching the two argue for over 10 minutes now. Neither had noticed her standing not far off observing.

“Is it really wise to speak to the future King like that?” Y/n spoke up after thinking Merlin was about to go to far. Efficiently stoping the two from yelling at each other.

Merlin couldn’t believe his eyes at who was standing before him. Arthur on the other hand was very pleased that this young woman was questioning Merlin’s actions towards him. “Yes, Merlin. Do you think of it as a wise thing to do?”

“y/n?” Merlin said her name but it came out sounding like a question because of his shock.

“Long time no see, huh?” Y/n smiled at merlin giving him a playful look.

“My God. I’ve missed you!” Merlin ran over picking Y/n up in a hug, spiking her around.

“I’ve missed you to.” Y/n hugged him back.

“Uh, hem” Arthur cleared his throat making the two remember he was there. Merlin put Y/n down and they stood facing him. “Merlin, who might this be?”

“Right.” Merlin said having forgotten to introduce the two. “Prince Arthur, this is my long-time friend Y/n.”

Y/n stepped forward reaching her hand out to shake hands with the blonde prince. “Nice to meet you, Prince Arthur.”

Arthur smiled reaching his own hand out to shake hers. “Pleasures all mine. Nice to meet someone that knows Merlin but is on my side.”

“Well…” Y/n stretched out smiling at the prince jokingly.

“Where are you from, Y/n?” Arthur asked spurious as to where he felt like he’s seen her before.

“Reamlitel” Y/n stated with a smile, thinking back on her home.

“What-” Arthur’s eyes widened. “Reamlitel? You’re Princess Y/n?”

Y/n smiled giving him a nod with an embarrassed look. “Yes, I am.”

Arthur stuttered on his words going to bow. “My apologize, Princess.”

Y/n reached out to stop him quickly. “Don’t please don’t. I’m not one for formalities.”

Artur respected her for that. Years ago he may have thought it was ridiculous given your royalty and it’s only right. But Arthur had grown up a lot and he respected the princess from Reamlitel’s decision. She didn’t want her people to feel they had to act differently around her. She will be an amazing Queen one day.

But now Arthur had a very confused look at Merlin. “How in the world do you know a princess Merlin?”

“Well-” Merlin winced under Arthur’s gaze.

“We met acouple of years ago. He was passing through my kingdom and we just sorta met.” Y/n cut in, taking over explaining for her friend.

“Well, in my defense you weren’t dressed like a royal. You were down with the townspeople and they weren’t treating you you were any different.” Merlin stated in his defense upon the look he was getting from Arthur.

“That’s because I don’t want them to.” Y/n crossed her arms raising a brow at Merlin.

Arthur laughed at the exchange it really sounded like Merlin. “Princess Y/n-”

“Just Y/n Prince. Please.” Y/n smiled facing Arthur again.

“Then just Arthur for you. Y/n.” he smiled back at her.

“Alright” Y/n looked away shyly.

Arthur liked her reaction. “Anyways, Y/n would you be my guest in the Castle for your stay?”

“I’d love to, Arthur.” Y/n accepted his offer.

“Great. Let us just finish up training with the knights and we can head to the Castle. I can show you around.” Arthur suggested trying to contain his smile.

“Ok” she nodded smiling

“Ok” Arthur nodded as well. “Merlin!” he yelled out as he started to head back to the training area.

“Coming Sire!” Merlin responded giving Y/n one last hug for now. Once he caught up to Arthur he could see a change in Arthur. So Merlin decided to help him out and give him a push. “You know Y/n is an excellent fighter.”

“Is that right?” Arthur asked, trying not to sound interested in Merlin’s knowledge of the princess.

“Yes. I’ve seen her in action.” Merlin stated walking ahead of him, turning around now walking backwards. “You like her.”

“Shut up Merlin.” Arthur grumbled.

Magic Divide - Arthur Pendragon (Part 1)

Y/n stood not far from the stables as she packed up some of her stuff, getting ready to leave when she heard footsteps and yelling of her name.

“Merlin?” Y/n spoke as she turned to face the people she considered family. She was confused as to what the rush seemed to be.

“Y/n!” merlin shouted again as they all came to a stop around her. “What are you doing?”

Y/n looked to all their faces before looking to the floor feeling slightly ashamed. “Leaving.”

“Leaving Camelot?” Gwen wondered with a furrowed expression like the rest as to why she would be leaving.

“Why?” Lancelot asked feeling concerned about the girl he considered like a sister.

“Arthur found out.” Y/n sighed out softly.

“About your magic?” Merlin questioned now feeling alittle worried.

“Yes. And feels betrayed, as he should.” Y/n added feeling disappointed in herself. It was a lose lose situation. Tell him about her magic and risk losing him or he find out and still lose him. Or worse.

“No, he shouldn’t.” Morgana stated shaking her head ‘no’ as she walked forward to wrap her friend up in a hug. They grew up together, practically sisters. Morgana always trusted Y/n and Y/n always trusted Morgana. It hurt Morgana to see her hurting over stupid Arthur.

Y/n turned to look at Morgana, she could tell the y/h/c-ed girl had unshed tears in her eyes. “Yes, he should. He had every right to feel betrayed and angry. I kept something big from him.”

“No, Y/n. If anything he should understand why you never said anything.” Lancelot agreed with Morgana. With how Arthur was raised, and his views on magic he should’ve understood why Y/n didn’t say anything.

“Doesn’t matter now. He hates me. Arthur hates me now because I possess magic.” Y/n’s voice cracked and it broke their heart to hear. Y/n snuffled and cleared her throat before giving them a tight smile. “So I’m leaving.”

“You can't leave.” Lancelot wanted to change her mind.

“We’ll miss you to much.” Gwen gave her a sad smile.

“Don’t leave. Not because of Arthur.” Morgana scoffed at the future Kings idiocy.

“I value my friendship with all of you. With the other knights, with Gauis. But-” Y/n didn’t want to leave but what was holding her for good anymore. “I don’t have anything holding me here anymore. Not in the way I was. With Arthur and I’s relationship- or even just friendship. I don’t feel welcome in the castle, and if I don't feel welcome where I’m staying what's the point?”

“Your not just staying in the Castle, but in Camelot. We’re-” Lancelot waved around to acknowledge them all who were there. “In Camelot.”

Gwen smiled at Y/n, stopping forward. “You could stay with me.”

“Or me. Gauis loves you.” Merlin added, also smiling at the princess.

“No one want’s you to go.” Morgana pointed out smiling at Y/n. They all would miss her so much if she decided to leave. Who knows when they’d see her again. “You could stay with me. We’re like sisters.”

“I love all of you.” Y/n smiled gratefully at them but she needed time to think. Plus she hadn’t been home in what felt like forever due to her and Arthur's somewhat courtship. “But I think it’s time I go back home. I haven’t been in almost a year.”

As much as it saddened them they all also understood where she was coming from. “You better come visit me.DOn’t leave me alone in that Castle forever okay?” Morgana smiled getting both of them to laugh alittle.

“I won’t.” Y/n smiled at Morgana, who didn’t know that castle needed more women. Y/n looked to Lancelot, Merlin, Gwen, and Morgana smiling at them with a mixture of sadness and happiness. “An your always welcome to come visit me as well. All of you are welcome. Anytime.”

“I’ll miss having you here.” Gwen told her with watering eyes.

“I know.” Y/n gave her a tight smile. She’d miss them to.

“Be careful.” Lancelot stated as he pulled her into a hug, resting his head against hers.

“I will.” Y/n smiled into the hug.

“An expect a visit soon.” Lancelot smiled sending her a wink as they pulled out of the embrace.

Y/n laughed nodding. “Ok.”

“Arthur’s a clotpole.” Merlin said shaking his head at what the princes’ actions were causing.

“Sometimes.” Y/n nodded in agreement. Arthur could be at times.

“Please visit.” Merlin pleaded pulling her into a hug.

Y/n smiled at his actions. “I will. But I need to be home right now.”

With goodbye’s said and hugs done they did try to get her to stay once more, especially once the rest fo knights found out she planned to leave. Y/n decided she had to tell the her main reason for leaving. The things Arthur had said to her since he found out, they were horrible things. About something, she had no control of inheriting. After she told them they all agreed she needed to get out of Camelot for a while, and away from Arthur.

^     ^     ^

“What's with the look’s Morgana?” Arthur grumbled, he was getting fed up with the looks she had been sending him for a while now.

“Screw you, Arthur.” Morgana scoffed before she stalked off out of the castle, pissed.

“What’d I do now?” Arthur asked looking to Gwen for an answer since he was confused.

“No offense your majesty but I agree with Lady Morgana on this particular topic.” Gwen stated before following out where Morgana had went.

Arthur now shocked and even more confused turned to his knights before asking. “What’d I do?”

“Sorry Prince but we-” Gwaine turned guestering to himself and the rest of the knights, then back to himself looking at the prince. “Agree with the women.”

Arthur walked over to Merlin in a slightly dazed state of shock before asking his servant. “Merlin-”

“Don’t look at me sire.” Merlin shook his head, looking away from the prince. In fact, looking anywhere but at Arthur.

“You agree?” Arthur questioned, with raised brows.

“Yeah.” Merlin gave him a quick nod before he pursued his lips together. Leaving Arthur with no real answer.

^     ^     ^

“Have you seen Y/n around, Merlin?” Arthur asked curiously. He hadn’t seen her in a while even though he had been avoiding her. When Merlin stayed quiet Arthur called his name. “Merlin?”

Merlin gulped he decided having to be the one to tell him this sucked. “She’s no longer in the castle, sire.”

“Then where is she staying?” Arthur asked puzzled to where else she would stay.

“At her home.” Morgana stated giving him a deadly look with her eyes.

“Morgana-” Merlin tried to cut in but Morgana wanted to rip Arthur a new one. She’d been holding her tongue long enough.

“No. He should know. After all if he’s just now aksing after a week of her being gone from Camelot, and many more weeks that he had avoided her. He should know what he did. What he caused.” Morgana continued, letting out her thoughts she’s held in.

“What are you talking about, Morgana?” Arthur squinted at Morgana’s rant. Not knowing what she was talking about. Not a clue.

“Y/n left.” Morgana stated plain and simple. Maybe that he’d understand.

“Left?” he repeated now very interested.

“Yes, left. Y/n left Camelot and went home about a week an half ago.” She explained and watched Arthur’s face morph into one of shock. “You look shocked Arthur? Did you really think she’d stay? After you said such horrible things to her. About something she was born with. Something she’s only used to help people with. You ignoring her, not speaking to her, acting as if she did the most terrible thing in the world.”

Arthur sighed. “She has magic Morgana-”

“So what?” Morgana shouted, how could he just forget about all the good times, how could he forget his love for Y/n over something so little. “Not everyone that has magic uses it for evil intentions. Y/n has saved her kingdom, Camelot, my life, yours, she had done nothing but good things with her magic and you made her feel awful about it. . . SHe thought you loved her more than that- hell Arthur most of us thought you loved her more than that. Thought you loved her enough that something like that wouldn’t matter. Guess we were all wrong.”

Arthur felt hurt by all the things Morgana was saying. He knew they were true which also hurt a lot. But magic, he’s been taught it’s evil. Didn’t that matter? “She kept it a -”

Morgana thought she knew Arthur but if he kept this up she knew she’s been dead wrong.

“From you? Yeah, she did. She kept it a secret from everyone the only reason some of us knew was because we caught her saving someone or something.” How could he not see she was scared? How could he not see why she was scared to tell him? “Arthur, don’t you get why she hid it from you? Uther hates people who wield magic. An you sometimes tlk the same, because he taught you to think it’s all bad and to kill them when you find them.”

That stunned Arthur. Y/n actually thought he would hurt her? Is that why she left? She feared for her life and feared him. “She thought I would’ve had her killed?”

Morgana looked at Arthur and really looked at him to see his emotions. He looked distraught in his eyes, so she sighed. “With the things, you said, how you looked at her and then how you treated her after? I would’ve thought you might of if I was in her shoes as well.”

Morgana left to let him think on her words. And he did. Arthur turned to Merlin. “Was I really that awful to her, Merlin?”

“Yeah, Arthur. You were cruel to her.” Merlin admitted to the blonde. He kinda felt for him though.

“y/n really left?” he whispered hoping if he spoke softer his voice wouldn’t crack.

Merlin sighed sadly. “She said she was here because of you. She no longer had you, so she left. Went home.”

“God, Merlin.” Arthur rubbed his hands over his face and then through his hair. “How do I fix this?”

“I don’t think anyone but you can fix it, Arthur.” Merlin told him, it was one of the rare times he actually wanted Merlin's advice. So he was happy to give it to him.

“Yeah. But how do I fix it is the question.” Arthur muttered to himself before he headed off to his room. He needed to think on this one.

^     ^     ^

“You asked to see me, father?” Arthur spoke as he entered the throne room. Hoping he wasn’t in trouble.

“Yes, Arthur. It seems Morgana would like to go visit Y/n. Now since she had gone home she’ll have to travel. I have to much to do so you’ll be escorting her. You and your knights. For Morgana’s safety.” Uther explained to his son. He was way to busy with King Duties to leave Camelot right now. Besides he had other motives for sending his son. Y/n had gone home 2 months ago maybe this was the chance he needed to fix things between them. The chance he’s known Arthur has been looking for.

“Yes, father.” Arthur nodded, ready to leave now if possible.

“You all leave tomorrow so inform your knights. All of you should pack tonight.” Uther stated.

“Yes, father.” Arthur answered turning to leave to go inform his knights to pack.

“And Arthur.” Uther spoke up stopping Arthur before he could leave through the double doors. “I don’t know what happened between the two of you, but you might want to fix it.”

Arthur nodded in understanding. “I have a plan.”

“Good. Now go pack.” Uther dismissed his son to leave the room.

“Yes, Father.” Arthur said before leaving the room, nervous and excited.

^     ^     ^

“So where are we heading out to this time, Prince?” Lancelot asked as they finished packing up the horses.

“Valmore.” Arthur stated as they got ready to head out.

Everyone looked at eachother in question before Gwaine spoke up. “Valmore?”

“Isn’t that-?” Leon questioned out loud looking to the others for confirmation.

“Y/n’s kingdom.” Morgana finished and confirmed with a nod and smile. Morgana mounted her horse. “Yes, it is. I miss my friend.”

“So we’re visiting.” Arthur stated as he to mounted his horse and the others followed.

“So, do you have a plan?” Merlin asked as he came up beside the prince also on a horse like the others.

“Yes, Merlin. I have a plan.” Arthur rolled his eyes at his servant's question.

“Is it good?” Merlin turned his head to look at the prince.

Arthur scoffed and turned to glare at the scrawny manservant that gets on his nerves all the time. “Yes, it’s good, Merlin. I don’t have bad plans.”

Merlin squinted and gave a tilt of his head, teasing the prince. “Well…”

“Back off Merlin.” Arthur stated before he went ahead of everyone else, leading the way.

“He have a plan?” Gwen asked as her and Merlin became parallel on their horses.

Merlin shrugged his shoulders at Gwen's question. “Says he does.”

“It better be a good one.” Morgana said riding next to the two. Morgana hoped Arthur would pull his head out of his ass and fix things with Y/n. She missed her friend and truthfully she was worried about Arthur. He’d been different since Y/n had been gone, not the bright Arthur he was usually was.

“Hopefully.” Merlin sighed.

Magic Divide - Arthur Pendragon (Part 2)

It didn’t take them more than a day and a night to reach Valmore. As soon as they reached the city Morgana quickly caught eyes on Y/n. She jumped off her horse and practically ran over to the y/h/c-ed girl, everyone else followed in Morgana’s direction.

“Y/n!” Morgana yelled out happily.

“Morgana?” Y/n questioned with a furrowed brow as she turned around to fcae where she heard her name called from. Upon seeing who she thought she heard calling her name. Y/n moved away from her knights, handing her horse's reins off to one of them, meeting Morgana halfway in a hug. “What are you doing here?”

“You said to visit anytime.” Morgana smiled at the princess.

“I know I did. I just didn’t think you would so soon. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy you're here. All of you” Y/n smirked happily to have them in her home. Her gaze went across everyone but it lingered a little longer on Arthur before she cast her eyes down.

“What happened to your arm?” Merlin asked with a worried expression after everyone had greeted eachother with smiles.

With Merlin's question, all of them turned their eyes to Y/n’s arm. Noticed the not so pretty gash on her bicep. It was obviously healing and had been stitched up nicely.

“Oh, this?” Y/n pointed to her upper right arm. She shrugged, compared to other injuries she’s had this was a cakewalk. “Happened when I was training. Hadn’t done it in so long I botched a move and well this happened.”

Everyone felt shocked at how she addressed her wound as nothing. But then Arthur spoke up. “Are you ok?”

Y/n looked up at the blonde prince again and nodded before answering. “Yeah, I’ve had worse. Especially when it comes to training.”

Arthur nodded in understanding but it didn’t stop his concern.

“Was it a sword? Or-” Leon asked wondering what made the slightly jagged cut.

“No, no. Swordfighting I wasn’t rusty at.” Y/n shook her head at the young knight. “This came from hand to hand combat. Kind of- a few moves I was rusty at which made me mess up and fall. This cut I got from a very sharp nasty rock.”

Leon nodded in understanding. Gwen stepped forward with a worried look before she asked. “You’ve had worse? That bruise on your upper back looks horrid.”

The others had to agree the bruise looked worse than the healing cut.

“Oh, if only you’ve seen how into it we can all get when it comes to hand to hand.” Y/n smiled letting out an amused laugh. Things were different here than in Camelot. “We go full out. No holding back. Lots of dislocations, torn muscles, cuts, all of it.”

“Women fight?” Gwaine raised his brow in shock and it showed on his face.

Y/n smirked at their shocked faces, so she continued to explain. “In my kingdom, women are warriors, Knights, fighters. We don’t discourage women from wanting to join in on those kinds of things. We encourage them.”

“But the princess?” Lancelot raised one brow in a teasing manner, having seen her fight before unlike most of the others.

“Haha, Lancelot.” Y/n playfully glared at him. “Yes, even the princess. I should know how to defend myself and my kingdom, and my people.”

Y/n spared a glance to Arthur, trying to read his feelings on the words she had said.

“Well, we should probably go up to the Castle.” Morgana suggested with a proud smile on her face. She truly wished she could spend some time in Valmore, enough to learn skills in combat. Maybe even something more magical.

“Yes. I bet you're all tired from the journey. Follow me and my knights. We’ll escort you.” Y/n nodded in agreement to Morgana’s words.

Y/n headed over to her horse, as she went to get up Arthur noticed a slight grimace came across her face as she mounted her horse.

“Do you need some help?” Arthur asked stepping closer to just in case her arm gave out as she pulled herself up onto the saddle.

“No, I uh. I get it.” She answered flustered to having him so close after so long of being apart. Once she was up on the horse she looked down at Arthur with a small smile on her lip. “As I said, I’ve had worse injuries than this. They’ve never stopped me before.”

With that said Y/n escorted her friends from Camelot up to the castle. Once they got their Y/n and her knights took them into the throne room where her parents were currently. After getting them arrangements to stay for as long as they want. With that everyone was shown to their rooms.

It was the next day when everyone decided to do some training in the morning. Some from Camelot had come down to watch Y/n train.

And she wasn’t kidding when she said they trained hardcore.

“Should she be fighting with her arm?” Merlin asked out to anyone that would give him an answer. He winced as he watched his friend fight.

“No.” Arthur answered leaning against the waist high wall. He to was concerned about her but she could hold her own, he knew that. Arthur was more concerned about her fighting and breaking open the freshly healed wound. “No, she shouldn't be, Merlin.”

“Well, are you just going to stare and watch her or go over and talk to her?” Morgana spoke giving Arthur a knowing look.

Arthur glanced Morgana's way before turning his attention back to Y/n. “She’s in the middle of a fight. She needs to concentrate on that.”

“Y/n wasn’t kidding when she said they don’t hold back.” Leon commented as he to watched the training.

Gwen agreed. “Yeah. They really go hard at one another.”

“She’s fighting with men.” Lancelot stated impressed.

“And winning.” Morgana stated proudly.

“She can hold her own.” Merlin nodded in agreement before asking Arthur another question. “When are you going to talk and make up.”

“When I can get her alone.” Arthur told him refraining from rolling his eyes.

“Good luck with that. She’s always surrounded by her knights.” Merlin countered with a tilt of his head.

“They're her friends.” Gwen tried to defend but Morgana cut in wanting to join in on Merlin’s pestering of Arthur.

“Their also men.” Morgana smirked. There were a few girls as well but if she wanted to get at Arthur. Mention all the other men around the girl he loves.

Merlin sucked in a breath in a teasing manner. “She seems very close to knight Jon and Knight Wardlow.”

“I get it okay?” Arthur snapped at them. He didn’t need to be told what he was seeing with his own eyes. Not that he’d admit it but he did feel jealous.

^     ^     ^

It was the next day that Arthur found a moment to get Y/n alone to talk.

“Y/n!” Arthur yelled after her down the hallway.

“Arthur.” Y/n said as she turned around to look at the prince as he came to a stop in front of her.

“Can we talk?” Arthur asked and he glanced nervously to the knights that were beside her.

Y/n stood still just watching him for a moment before giving him a ‘yes’ nod.

“You gonna be okay?” Knight Darby asked the princess with a look Arthur couldn’t decipher.

“Yeah. I’ll be fine.” Y/n nodded sending Darby a grateful nod for checking first. She was indeed close with her knights and when she came back she had told them what had happened. So they were on edge about leaving her alone with the prince of Camelot.

“If not just yell out. I won’t be far.” Knight Jon stated with narrowed eyes pinned on the young prince. Which was very intimidating to Arthur. He’d seen the man fight, he was pure violence.

“Hmmm” Wardlow hummed and nodded in agreement with his fellow knight and friend. Y/n nodded as the 3 men walked to the end of the hallway not so subtly watching.

“What is on your mind Prince Arthur?” Y/n asked shifting on her feet.

“Can we talk in private?” he sighed not feeling comfortable being watched with what he wanted to talk about.

“Of course.” Y/n gulped nodding before turning and giving her knights a wave. Told them it was okay and to stay. So her and Arthur headed into the nearest room. “What is it you would like to talk about prince Arthur?”

He sighed leaning his head to the side. “Are we really going back to using ‘Prince before my name?”

“How else should I address you?” Y/n said looking down at her hands. She didn’t know how to act around him anymore. Not really.

“As just Arthur.” Arthur said loudly before taking a breath. He wasn’t mad at her he was pissed at himself. For putting them here. “Like before.”

It saddened him to realize he made her feel like they had to go back to the beginning. He hated himself for it.

“But things aren’t like before.” she told him with a sigh. God did she wish they were like before. She really missed him but how could they be together now?” We were together before. Now we’re not so I should address you with your title.”

“Are we really that far gone? Our relationship?” Arthur asked with slightly worried eyes. He couldn’t lose her.

“You tell me.” Y/n lifted her shoulders and then her eyes to look at him. The decision was in his court, he’s the one that ruined things, to begin with.

“y/n-” Arthur went to start but Y/n knew his tone of voice so she cut him off.

“No, Arthur. I can’t go through all that heartache again. I-I just can’t.” Y/n’s voice broke as she spoke and that made Arthur's chest ache.

“I’m sorry.” he didn’t know how else to start.

Y/n shook her head. “Don’t apologize when you don’t mean it.”

Arthur squinted in confusion. “What makes you think I don’t mean it?”

“Because you despise magic! An I have magic so therefore you despise me!” Y/n yelled out before taking a deep breath looking at Arthur with unshed tears in her eyes. The love of her life hated her because of something she frankly enjoyed about herself. “You hate me because of something that is a part of me.”

Arthur stepped forward shaking his head quickly at her words. “I don’t hate you.”

“If you hate a part of me then you hate me.” He couldn’t hate her magic and not hate her. And she couldn’t be with someone who hated her. “That’s how that works Arthur.”

Arthur raised his hands to cup her cheeks, using his thumbs to wipe away tears she didn’t notice were falling down her cheeks. “I could never hate or despise you Y/n.”

“The things you said to me when you found out and the way you looked at me and acted towards me all say otherwise, Arthur.” Y/n looked into his eyes, she could see the regret in his eyes.

“I felt betrayed and I was angry.I said things that weren’t true and that I didn’t mean.” Arthur explained but it didn’t make him feel any better and he didn’t expect to fix things. But she deserved to know. “It's no excuse for what I did. There’s nothing that could excuse my behavior from before. But I want to repair what we had. I want to make it up to you. If that's even a possibility.”

Y/n shook her head, it was a hard decision to make. And she didn’t know if she could, no matter how bad she wanted Arthur back. “I don’t know Arthur.”

Arthur sighed dreading asking this next question. “Are you afraid of me?”

“What?” Y/n looked at him in shock.

“Are you afraid of me? Were you afraid to tell me because you thought I would have had you killed?” He asked with a gulp afraid himself of the answer she’d give. He wouldn’t blame her though. With how Uther felt about magic and him raising Arthur to be the same. . .

“As much as I wish I could say I wasn’t. . . Besides hiding my magic I have never lied to you. I don’t plan on doing it now.” She told him before letting out a deep breath. “Yes, I was afraid that you might tell your father and we both know how I would have been ‘taken care of’.”

“y/n” Arthur's gaze dropped feeling even more disappointed in himself.

“It's not that I didn’t want to tell you, Arthur. It’s just-” Y/n hated that she felt this was but it was true. “I saw how your father flt about sorcery, and then how you felt about it. . . I was scared.”

Arthur nodded solemnly. “You had every right to be.”

“I’m sorry.” she said looking away from him. She felt guilty, even though she had no reason to be.

“Don’t be. You have nothing to be sorry for.” He shook his head, dismissing her apology she had nothing to apologize for it was all him. “I’m sorry. For how I reacted and treated you. It was wrong of me.”

“Its ok-”

Arthur immediately stopped her. He didn’t want her to forgive him that easily or pretend it was nothing. He treated her horribly, that wasn’t okay.  “No, its not. An I know I hurt you.”

Y/n but her lip as they starred at eachother for a moment. “You could’ve just given me a chance. Magic a chance.”

“I hate myself for hurting you. I’ll never forgive myself for all that I put you through.” Arthur agreed with her, he could’ve given her a chance. Prove and show him she didn’t use magic for evil. “But I do want to make it up to you.”

“How?” She asked with a tilted head. If his views didn’t change how could he make it up to her?

“Well, against my views I was taught growing up. I want you to show me your magic.” Arthur gave her a small smile. It didn’t excuse what he did and said but maybe if he could understand her magic and that part of her then they could get back together.

“Are you sure?” Y/n asked, she knew how he felt if this was uncomfortable for him then maybe things should just be done. She didn’t want to force him to like all of her. If they didn’t work then they would have to accept it.

“More sure than I am about a lot of things.” Arthur said shifting closer to his princess. “But I’m even more sure that I want us to get back together.”

Y/n took a deep breath. “Arthur- we can’t just go back to what and how we were.”

“I know that. It’s going to take time for me to gain your trust back. I’m determined to do so.” Arthur looked into her eyes with determination and passion. He was going to gain his princess's trust back. No matter what.

Not my picture

For The Good Of Camelot.

“You can’t do this father!” Arthur exclaimed hands slamming on the table as he stood from his seat.

“I am your father and the king of Camelot I can do as I wish!” Uther yelled back standing from his seat as well “And you and y/n are to be wed for the good of the kingdom and its people if you are to be king one day you must realize that you have to make sacrifices you are no longer a child you are a man and I expect you to act as such!”

Arthur opened his mouth but quickly shut it when his father brought his hand up telling Arthur to silence.

Uther turned his head to you “And what say you of this arrangement?”

You sucked in a sharp breath as much as you wanted to speak out you were not in such a position as Arthur to speak out against the king so swallowing the lump in your throat thickly “I will do as you wish sire” you replied as a silent tear fell down your cheek.

Arthur scoffed not at you but at his father and what he was proposing “Fath-“ Arthur started.

“Silence I will have no more debate about this matter!” Uther shouted “I will begin making preparations with y/n’s father tomorrow” he stated walking out of the room.

As soon as Uther left the room Arthur’s shoulders slumped “Way to have my back there” Arthur scolded you as if you were a child.

“You think I want this? I do not have the luxury of speaking against the King Arthur” you snap back storming out of the room to your chambers.

“Y/N” you heard him sigh as you exited you ignored him.

You had been staying in Camelot as a guest for about a year you can’t help but think that this had been your father's plan this whole time. You and Arthur had met in your childhoods and had always been close though not in the way your fathers wanted it would seem.

“Y/N?” you heard a knock and Arthur’s voice pulling you from your thoughts.

“Come in”

“I’m sorry about earlier,” Arthur told you eyes turned towards the floor “I know you can not speak against my father and it was wrong of me to be upset with you”

“It’s okay Arthur” you replied patting the spot on your bed beside you.

“So we are to be wed” he sighed taking the spot on the bed.

“It would seem so” you chuckled dryly. “What are we going to tell Gwaine and Gwen?” You asked softly.

“I will get us out of the Y/N I swear it,” Arthur told you.

“And if you can’t?” You questioned as the tears you were holding back began to fall

“Then I also swear this to you” Arthur started moving to kneel in front of you grabbing your hands gently as his eyes found yours “If I can not get us out of this and we are to be wed I will make you comfortable all the days of my life and I will do everything in my power to make you happy I can’t make you love me but I will love you I swear it” Arthur finished eyes never leaving yours.

He brought a hand to your cheek gently wiping the tears from your eyes and offering you a small smile before standing and leaving your room.

***

You were awakened by a knock on your door you had fallen asleep in your clothes crying.

“Come in” you replied rubbing the sleep from your eyes as Merlin entered your chambers.

“Arthur told me what happened last night he’s gone to try and reason with the king he sent me to check on you I figured you’d be hungry” Merlin fumbled as he sat the plate on the table making himself busy.

“Thank you Merlin you’ve always been kind to me” you offered him a small smile as you sat.

“Of course, you’re my friend” Merlin shrugged.

“And you are mine please sit I couldn’t possibly eat all this by myself” You gestured for him to take the seat beside you.

The two of you ate in silence for a minute before Merlin broke it “How are you doing?” He asked.

“As well as I can be” you paused taking a deep breath “I only hope Arthur can get us out of it” You sighed as if summoned Arthur burst into the room.

“My Father won’t listen to reason he says we will be wed within the month” Arthur paced the room.

You bit back the tears refusing to cry again.

“We must tell Guinevere and Gwaine before it is announced they should hear it from us,” you told him as his pacing stopped.

“Very well,” Arthur said walking out of the room.

“Goodbye Y/N,” Merlin told you exiting to follow his master.

***

You and Arthur had decided to tell them together thinking that it might be nice to have the support so Merlin arranged for you all to meet at Gwen’s house Arthur had practically begged Merlin to come with you making an excuse about how a prince needs his servant at all time but you knew he just wanted him there Merlin was after all his closest friend.

When you arrived Gwen and Gwaine were sitting at her table they had been talking as you entered but quickly stopped when they saw you.

“Darling, are you alright?” Gwaine rushed towards you checking for any injuries or something that could be physically wrong with you sighed in relief when he saw nothing pulling you In for a hug “Merlin said it was urgent” When you didn’t respond he pulled away eyes widening when he saw the tears falling down your face “Y/N?” He questioned grabbing your face in his hands.

“Gwaine I think you should sit down” Arthur spoke as he pulled a seat out for Gwen.

“What did you do to her Arthur?” Gwaine asked moving towards the prince.

“Gwaine please sit,” you said grabbing his arm before he could do anything. He looked back at you before hesitantly taking a seat as you went to stand by Arthur.

“There’s no easy way to say this so I’ll just come out with it our fathers have arranged for us to be married,” Arthur said letting out a breath.

“Then refuse!” Gwen yelled standing up and surprising all of you with the outburst “I’m sorry” Gwen apologized as she sat back down.

“Don’t apologize Guinevere” Arthur sighed

Before explaining “I tried my father is having none of it he says we are to be wed by the end of the month”

As Arthur was talking to Gwen Gwaine stood from the table going to leave.

“Gwaine” you called moving towards him

“I just need some time,” he said walking out you went to follow him before Merlin grabbed your arm gently.

“Give him some space,” he said gently.

Gwen and Arthur were talking in hushed tones before Gwen turned towards you.

“I’m so sorry Gwen” was all you could manage before a sob racked your body.

“I think it’s best if you all leave” Guinevere whispered holding tears of her own back.

Merlin simply nodded leading you out of the house back to the palace Arther following behind.

Once Arthur and Merlin got you back to your quarters and made sure you were okay they left you.

Now you were left with your thoughts tossing and turning trying to escape them long enough to fall asleep sighing when you had no such luck.

You only found a semblance of relief when you heard a knock at your window knowing it was Gwaine's as this was a regular thing he did the relief was quickly replaced with anxiety as you walked to the window to let him in.

“May I come inside my lady?” Gwaine as you opened the window stepping aside to let him in walking towards the bed.

“I was worried about you,” you told him in a whisper.

“I know darling I’m sorry I just need some time to cool down it’s not every day you’re told that the woman you love is marrying one of your closest friends” Gwaine chuckled dryly, Trying to bring some semblance of humor to your predicament.

“We could run away,” you said.

Gwaine sighed as he sat beside you “The king would find us execute me and force you to marry Arthur”

“Then what are we to do?” You asked helplessly.

“You have to go through with it for your sake I could not bare anything happening to you because of my foolishness,” he told you arm wrapping around you as he kissed your forehead gently.

“You have to promise me you’ll move on and find happiness with someone else for I cannot bare the thought of you spending your days in misery for my sake,” you told him gabbing his face in your hands and resting his forehead on your own.

“I’m afraid I can make no such promise for a fear I am destined to love you all the days of my life,” Gwaine said tears finally making their way down his face

“And I you but you must try” you started biting back tears of your own “For me please” you finished.

“I will try for you” Gwaine finally agreed.

You sat like that for a while foreheads rested against one another’s as silent tears fell down your cheeks.

You don’t remember who made the motion to lay down only that you had fallen asleep holding each other for perhaps the last time.

You awoke to a thumb gently stroking your cheek Gwaine's soft scratchy morning voice filling your eyes “Wake up darling I’m afraid I must go” he kissed your forehead lingering for a moment before pulling away eyes finding your tired ones before he looked away leaving the bed.

You got up to follow him to the window opening it for him hesitantly as he slipped his boots on.

He kissed your forehead once more before he began climbing out of the window.

“Gwaine,” you said making him pause his movements to look back at you as soon as he did you pulled him in for a kiss.

A kiss you hoped would convey your affection and feelings for him tell him how much you loved him and how much he meant to you and as he kissed back you felt him saying all those things too.

“Goodbye Y/N” Gwaine whispered as he pulled away.

“Goodbye Gwaine” you offered the biggest smile you could muster he simply nodded eyes lingering on you before he turned and made his way out of the window.

It was your understanding that Gwen and Arthur had had a night much like yours a last calm together before the storm Arthur never asked you about your night nor you his. It was something only you lovers would know and you both intended it to stay that way.

***

After a long month, the time for the ceremony had come. Your father and mother had traveled from their kingdom for this.

“You look beautiful my love,” your mother told you as the maid finished getting you ready it was the first time she’d seen you in your dress “Please leave us I’d like a moment alone with my daughter,” she asked the maids noticing your discomfort.

“I am sorry you were born into this my darling” she spoke once the maids had left “It’s not fair and I wish it could be different but I am so proud of you and the woman you’ve become and I know you will make an excellent queen one day” she finished kissing your forehead.

“I love you, Mother,” you told her hugging her tightly a few stray tears falling.

“Oh come now you shouldn’t cry on your wedding day I’ll give you a moment to yourself,” she told you leaving one last kiss on your cheek before exiting.

There was a gentle knock on your door as Merlin peaked his head in the room “I was told to come to fetch you the ceremony is about to start” he said stepping inside and offering you a hand “I know it doesn’t help but you look beautiful my lady” Merlin said as you walked down the hall towards you father waiting at the door.

“Thank you Merlin you are a good friend to me and Arthur,” you told him kissing his cheek softly as you made it to your father his cheeks burned bright red at the gesture bright smile never left his face.

And with that, you took your father's arm walking through the door towards your soon-to-be husband.

Arthur could not lie his breath hitched when he saw you you looked absolutely breathtaking.

As you made it to the alter your father let you go shaking Arthur’s hand with a whisper to take care of you before joining your mother and Uther on the front row.

“You look beautiful,” Arthur told you kissing your cheek and offering a head to help you up the altar.

“You look handsome as well” you smiled. Before the officiant cleared his throat starting the ceremony.

You blacked out at that moment your brain only coming back in to focus as the officiant asked Arthur if he took you to be his wife “I do” Arthur answered eyes never leaving yours as the man asked you the same “I do” You said trying to show as much confidence and bravery as Arthur had and has throughout this whole thing.

“By the power vested in me by God and the church of Camelot, I now pronounce you husband and wife Prince Arthur you may kiss you bride” As the man finished speaking Arthur took your face in his hands gently as if you would break were he to rough and pulled you in for a kiss.

The kiss was soft and surprisingly sweet it

it was a kiss that conveyed that while this may not be what either of you had planned you were still going to do everything in your power to make the other happy.

As quickly as it had come this kiss was over as you both pulled away surprisingly sad that it had ended so quickly but you both gained your composure as you turned towards the crowd hand in hand ready to face this new challenge with the other by your side.

“I give you Arthur and Y/N Pendragon prince and princess of Camelot!”

MYSTERY, A.Pendragon

MYSTERY, A.Pendragon

Arthur Pendragon x fem!!reader summary: A mysterious knight has arrived in Camelot, one that refuses to show their face. This knight defeats contender after contender until even Uther wants to know of their identity, but how will the kingdom react to their finest knights being defeated by a woman? tw!! swearing, violence, sexual innuendos, sexism. notes: before I begin- this is the first imagine I'm ever writing on Tumblr, I mostly post on Wattpad but decided that I'd write some small imagines here for characters that I am yet to write an entire book on or am not ever writing a full book on. I do the whole x reader thing sort of differently, I will only write from the female's perspective but even though the imagines say x reader I will make the reader's description how I see fit if that makes any sense? basically, the only x-reader part about it is that you can picture the other character's saying your name but the character won't be your description 😂 if it doesn't make any sense you'll see what I mean!!! :)) ps. apologies if Arthur doesn't seem in character enough :))

NO ONE KNEW WHERE THE MYSTERIOUS KNIGHT HAD APPEARED FROM. All that everyone knew was that there was a mysterious figure challenging all of the King's men. And every single knight had fallen to defeat under this mysterious figure's sword.

Yet another knight fell to his back, grunting in pain as the enigmatic pressed their foot harshly against the already defeated knight's chest. The man grits his teeth together in pain and lifted his eyes to look up at the covered head of his opponent.

The crowd let out a cheer, some even lept to their feet in entertainment. King Uther stared at this knight, clearly impressed as he clapped his hands together out of respect and congratulations for the mystery knight.

An hour later and Prince Arthur's servant, Merlin, ran through the halls in excitement, searching for his friend, y/n. Merlin had become a rather big fan of this obscure knight after he and his guardian, Gaius, had concluded that he wasn't using any type of sorcery to defeat his opponents.

"y/n!!"He called out as he pounded his fist against the wood of her front door. A distant 'hang on' is heard from behind the door before it's flung open to reveal one of Merlin's best friends.

y/n is a clumsy brunette with the darkest brown eyes that Merlin had ever laid eyes on. She was also one of the shyest people that he had met, she barely even spoke to him in the first few weeks of them first meeting. But after she broke out of her shell around him she never stopped speaking.

"Merlin!!"She exclaimed happily as he moved past her, entering her house with a big grin on his face. --"He did it again!!"Merlin exclaimed excitedly. y/n folded her arms in amusement, shutting her door as she spun to look at him.

"he?" she questioned and Merlin spun to face her with his hands in front of him. --"The mystery knight!!" he specified, --"you should have seen it, y/n!!"he ranted.

y/n smiled in amusement, tucking a shy strand of her brown hair behind her ear. Leaning shoulder first against a wall, she gladly listened to Merlin ramble on and on about this 'mysterious knight'.

Of course, y/n knew who this knight was. Herself. She found it rather exciting to finally use her skilful swordsman abilities and not worry about being ordered against it. For most of her life, whenever she tried to fight a man would tell her not to, because she was a woman with 'skin as thin as air and muscles the size of Uther's love for magic'.

She could never escape her shyness but when she was fighting, it was like the nerves disappeared completely and she was instead focused on her target and winning. And thus she decided to start fighting for real, never once showing her face when she challenged Arthur's knights.

"I still don't understand why you don't come down and watch him fight with me."Merlin's voice broke her from her thoughts. She simply smiled and shrugged her shoulders, chuckling awkwardly.

"Sword fights just aren't my thing, Mer."She lied, walking over to her kitchen to start preparing her dinner. --"I'm sure you wouldn't have even started going to them if you weren't Arthur's man-servant."She pointed out and he shook his head in denial.

"not true." he denied, --"Arthur was impressed with them."He spoke, capturing y/n's attention. She lifted her eyes forward but didn't turn her head, her stomach doing a flip as she smiled.

She and Arthur had a weird type of relationship. She wasn't sure whether to describe their dynamic as friends considering Arthur often differed between being hot and cold around her. Sometimes he would speak to her freely like they were on the same level, he would even have a laugh with her sometimes but then other times he would give her the cold shoulder.

Which hurt y/n. Like with Merlin, it had taken her a while to even speak words to him, longer than Merlin actually considering she felt intimidated under Arthur's royal authority. After a while, she finally felt comfortable enough to communicate with him, something that actually seemed to delight Arthur.

Perhaps it was because she addressed him like he was human and not like he was a walking title.

"Really?"She spoke, surprised. Arthur was never one to admit that he was impressed with anyone outside of his group of knights, especially to Merlin of all people.

"Uther too."Merlin continued, moving over to stand next to her in the kitchen part of her small house. She hummed in response, --"I bet the knight was pleased with such praise."She responded and Merlin shook his head with a pout.

"I wouldn't know. The knight always leaves the second he wins his challenge."He informs the brunette who had to fain surprise.

She opens her mouth to respond before there was a loud knock at her door and seconds later Gwen came bursting in, a nervous look on her face.

"Uther wants everyone gathered in the town square!"

----

y/n stood alongside Merlin, Gwen and Gaius as they looked up at a smiling Uther from his patio. y/n folded her clammy hands over her lap as Uther urged the crowd to quieten down.

Arthur stood a little bit behind his father, a stoic look on his face like usual. y/n caught his gaze only for a moment before glancing down at her feet.

"I wish to address the mystery knight who has defeated every Camelot knight thrown his way."Uther finally spoke after a few seconds of silence.

y/n lifted her head in surprise as the crowd remained silent. Not that Uther was expecting anyone to respond to him. He waited a couple of seconds before continuing.

"Very well. You wish to keep your identity a secret for the time being." he paused, surveying the crowd as he tried to guess who had been under the armour only mere hours ago.

"I wish to propose a challenge to you."Uther continued, y/n straightened her back unknowingly. --"Defeat a nobleman of my choosing and you will have a place amongst my knights." he paused for a second, --"no noble blood needed."

y/n was sceptical of that challenge reward. Uther had never abandoned the knight's code, never. Clearly, Merlin was sceptical too judging by the glance he gave to her.

"As for you're challenger, "Uther spoke again, demanding all of the whispered hushes in the crowd to cease. --"You will be duelling against my son..."

Her heart dropped to her stomach as Arthur took a step forward, Uther resting a hand on his son's back. --"Prince Arthur Pendragon." he announced as the crowd started to applaud this idea.

Merlin seemed to like this idea as he applauded along with the crowd. However, y/n looked as though she wanted to be sick. She didn't want to fight Arthur, but she was also never one to back down from a challenge.

"If you accept my challenge,"Uther spoke again and she lifted her gaze from Arthur to Uther. --"You'll duel tomorrow at noon."

y/n swallowed uneasily, gripping the fabric of her skirt anxiously. What was she going to do? she despised the idea of backing down from a challenge, especially one set by the king himself. But she would have to fight Arthur, one of the select few people in her life she actually cared for.

----

Later that night, y/n wiped down the dining table in the Camelot castle. y/n wasn't exactly a servant per se, she was a cleaner. Every night just before Uther retired to his chambers, she would clean down the thrones, dining room table, scrub and sweep the floor and replace the fresh bowl of fruit on the table.

She still hadn't decided if she was going to accept Uther's challenge. She wanted to prove to herself that she could go all the way but could she really willingly hurt Arthur? the same Arthur who complimented the flowerbeds outside of her house every time he passed.

"you missed a spot."

She paused her arm to glance over her shoulder, bowing her head a little when seeing Arthur leaning against the wall. Shaking her head with a smile, --"No I didn't, sire."She denied with a small laugh.

"Are you calling me a liar, y/n?"He demanded playfully, a grin on his face. She continued to clean as she shook her head, --"I would never, your highness."She responded, scoffing a laugh.

After wiping down the table, she glanced over at him. --"I assumed you would be training for your duel tomorrow morning."She spoke, he pursed his lips and shook his head.

"I've been training all night, thought I'd give myself a break."He responded, and she hummed with a nod. --"You're father must really believe in this mysterious knight to abandon the knight code."She said, picking up the bucket of water and moving over to the throne to wipe them down too.

Arthur only shook his head. --"I wish that was the case."He responded, and she glanced at him curiously. --"My father doesn't believe this knight can beat me, as far as he is concerned he isn't even breaking the knight code."He confided in y/n, a frown settled on his face.

"you disagree with him?"She pressed. Arthur merely scoffed, --"That the knight can't beat me? of course, I agree with that." he boasted arrogantly causing y/n to roll her eyes in amusement. --"But I don't agree with the knight code."He then continued, moving to lean against one of the thrones that y/n had just wiped down.

She raised her head and cleared her throat. He furrowed his eyebrows for a moment before she gestured to the throne he was leaning against. --"I just wiped that down, sire."She reminded him and he raised his eyebrows and moved away from the throne so he was standing next to her.

"You don't agree with the knight's code?"She asked curiously and he shook his head. --"I believe if you fight with dignity and honour, it shouldn't matter what bloodline you belong to."He responded. She paused her actions to show him a soft smile.

"you're a good man, Arthur Pendragon."She informed him with a nod as she finished up her cleaning duties. Arthur felt his heart swell at her words, an adoring smile appearing on his features as he watched her drop her sponge into the bucket of soapy water.

"Perhaps you could throw that at Merlin, he was supposed to have had my bed made an hour ago," he commented and she let out a laugh, pressing a hand to her mouth in an instant, her face heating up.

"You love him, really."She simply told him with a laugh as she moved past him. Arthur made a face at her comment but didn't deny his platonic affection for his manservant.

"Will you be at the duel tomorrow?"He asked her, walking alongside her. She swallowed and shook her head, --"Don't think I could bear to see you lose, sire."She responded playfully and he shook his head with a smile on his face.

"I'm not going to lose."He informed her confidently, missing the sly smile on her face. As they passed the stairs, he pressed a hand to the wall and smiled over at her.

"Goodnight, y/n."

She returned his smile, her cheeks rosy. --"Goodnight, my lord."She bid him goodnight and then disappeared down the corridor.

Arthur didn't move for a second before disappearing up to his chambers.

----

Arthur stood in the arena, decked out in his armour. The prince had been waiting for his opponent for around 10 minutes. Uther was noticeably becoming impatient but his ego was way more demanding than his patience.

Merlin's knee bounced up and down nervously, starting to think that the knight had gotten cold feet at the thought of duelling the king's son.

I mean, this could all just be one big ploy to capture the knight and throw them in a cell for embarrassing the entire Camelot knighthood. The knight would have every right to be suspicious.

But just as all seemed lost and Uther was going to call for the duel to be cancelled, heavy exaggerated footsteps were heard and out walked the Knight themself.

The crowd let out a cheer at the sight of the knight. Arthur straightened his posture as he eyed the masked mystery.

y/n had been tossing and turning all night on her decision but ultimately decided to fight. She was going to prove Uther Pendragon wrong.

She unsheathed her sword with Arthur, the crowd letting out another cheer as the pair slowly bowed to one another. And thus the duel began.

y/n hadn't been entirely sure how she would act in a fight with Arthur so she just pictured that she wasn't fighting Arthur at all and she was simply fighting another random knight.

She blocked a swing from Arthur with her shield, spinning around and swinging her sword in his direction. As their swords clashed against one another for a further 3 minutes, y/n felt her respect for Arthur grow more and more.

Their swords blocked against one another as they both fought for dominance, Arthur's helmeted head getting close to hers. In the end, Arthur got the better of her and he struck her back, twisting her sword around with his so they were face to face again, fighting to shove the other to the ground.

But as his blue eyes gazed through the eye slit of her helmet, his eyes locked with hers and he squinted in confusion, recognising her dark orbs instantly.

"y/n?"He mumbled loud enough for her to hear and only her.

Her heart dropped and her eyes widened in surprise. He recognised her? but she had been so careful. Swallowing thickly, she shoved him back and swung her sword at him, which he blocked, their swords once again stuck together.

Now that Arthur knew who was under that helmet and shiny armour, he wanted to finish the match as soon as possible. He used their swords being connected to his advantage and thrust his sword down causing her to fall to the ground.

He then took a page out of her book and pressed his boot against the chest of her armour and pointed the sword at her neck.

Arthur had won.

The crowd erupted into cheers but Arthur didn't lift his head. He was too busy staring down at the woman beneath the metal.

Her heart sank with the knowledge that she had lost the duel. All she ever wanted was to prove to everyone and herself that she was worthy to fight with the knights of Camelot but she had failed.

After a couple of seconds, Arthur pulled his sword away from her neck to hold his hand out for her. Exhaling sharply, she fought the urge to groan at the growing pain happening in her left ribcage.

She took ahold of his hand and he helped her to her feet, his blue eyes staring incredulously into hers, a worried look on his face that didn't go missed by Merlin.

----

That evening, y/n lay in her bed with a frown. She had failed. All she had to do was win one more duel and maybe just maybe she would have gotten the respect she so desperately wanted.

After their duel had come to an end, y/n had wasted no time on giving Arthur a brief congratulatory pat on the back before leaving the arena and disappearing through the alleys to retreat back to her house.

She was surprised that Merlin hadn't come bursting to her door yet to talk about how the 'mystery knight' had lost his duel with Arthur. She assumed that Arthur would have told him that it had been her underneath the armour.

Then there was a knock at her door. She groaned in discomfort and lifted herself from her bed to walk over to her door, expecting to swing it open and find a worried Merlin.

But instead, she found Arthur who wasted no time barging past her.

She cursed silently, --"please, come in."She muttered sarcastically to herself, making sure that Arthur hadn't heard the way she spoke to him.

Closing the door, she turned to him, surprised to see the concerned look on his face. --"Why would you do that?"He snapped at her, and she raised an eyebrow.

"Regarding?"She tried and he shook his head. --"Don't you realise that if I hadn't realised it was you under the armour I could have killed you?!"He snapped at her.

Her shoulders fell with disappointment. --"I just-"She paused and swallowed, --"I just wanted to feel proud of myself for once."She told him.

Arthur only sighed and took a few steps forward, resting his hands on her cheeks to make sure she hadn't sustained any injuries during their duel. --"you should feel proud of yourself, y/n."He told her truthfully.

"You won, remember?"She muttered as he continued to look her over. --"Did I hurt you?" he asked her, ignoring her previous comment. She goes to shake her head but doesn't get the chance as Arthur's hand brushes over her left ribcage.

She let out a grunt, gritting her teeth together as she shook her head. --"No."She denied, only earning a glare from Arthur. --"I'll get Gaius."He goes to pass her and leave, a look of panic passed her face as she grabbed ahold of his arm, shaking her head.

"No!"She exclaimed, Arthur, turned to her with a confused look on his face. --"Have you told Merlin it was me?"She asked and he shook his head.

"I didn't get the chance to, he was too busy moping because you lost."He snorted, she swallowed and nodded her head. --"Could this just be our secret?"She asked him.

"If you go to Gaius surely Uther will find out it was me under the metal and I really don't want that."She told him, her voice shaking a little.

Arthur hesitated for a moment. --"Do you think you're rib is cracked?" he asked her seriously and she shook her head. --"You pack a mean blow, Pendragon but don't get cocky."She simply told him, --"It's merely bruised."

After a moment, he nodded and she released her hold on his arm. --"Thank you."She murmured. --"you're good in a duel."He responded and she shook her head.

"you won, remember?"She repeated the same phrase from earlier and he shook his head. --"I wouldn't have ended it as quick as I had if I hadn't noticed it was you."He told her, his gaze piercing against hers.

She raised an eyebrow. --"Are you telling me you might not have won if you hadn't noticed, sire?"She asked playfully and he scoffed taking a step closer to her.

"You're good, y/l/n, but don't get cocky."He repeated her words from earlier, leaning closer so that he could whisper his words tauntingly.

She didn't respond, their eyes flickering between one another's lips. Arthur seemed to think over his options for a moment before leaning in and closing the gap between the pair, his lips capturing hers.

And thus began the first of many kisses that the pair would share.
