Arianne Martell - Tumblr Posts

I was a foolish willful girl, playing at the game of thrones like a drunkard rolling dice. … That was before, when I was just a girl, she told herself. I am a woman now, my father’s daughter. I have learned that lesson. – Arianne Martell, The Winds of Winter
Yes!!! It would be nice to see ONE character get everything they want. But I think it’s likely that Elia’s, Doran’s and Arianne’s goals will diverge because of three events that happened at the end of AFFC and ADWD:
Quentyn Martell got roasted by Dany’s dragons when she was “away”
Arianne devised a failed plot that ended with Myrcella Baratheon losing an ear
Young Griff/fAegon (I think he’s a fake Targ) landed on Storm’s End with most of his army
—
Elia Sand may not have lost enough to turn her back on Dany, but as stoic as Doran tries to be, and as much as he believes in Dany, I think he’ll regret allying with her when he learns that his firstborn is dead. He may also overcome this for the sake of future prospects.
This is why I’m fascinated with GRRM’s work with Arianne and the Sand Snakes: everyone but Allerys is consumed with getting vengeance on the Lannisters, by going so far as to harm the children who had no part in the destruction caused, either because the adults are already dead or too hard to reach.
And by keeping the narrative in Arianne’s POV, we really experience an exasperated, “too little, too late,” reaction to Doran waiting until Arianne had made a mistake to tell her his plan. Even Quentyn did not get enough information on Daenerys from Doran, to know how to approach her and the dragons. And let’s not forget that Dany doesn’t even know the details of his plot which involves her, unlike Arianne.
It makes me wonder: What if Arianne reins in her impulsiveness long enough to see which Targ rises first in Westeros? What if Doran is skeptical of fAegon and bitter towards Dany? What if Arianne independently decides to bind herself to fAegon’s side? What if this causes Elia Sand’s desires to diverge from Doran Martell’s? Will one or both of them still be an ally when Dany finally lands on Westeros?
Never forget that Tywin Lannister sent his men into the Red Keep for the purpose of murdering Elia's children and that Gregor Clegane raped and murdered Elia after killing her son. Then 15 years later, Clegane murdered Oberyn while he attempted to avenge his sister by going after her actual murderers. Can't wait for Elia's niece and namesake, Elia Sand, to avenge her aunt and father by killing Clegane during one of the coming battles.
Hell, as part of the coming wars, El might even help finish her father's dream of restoring the Targs to the throne while fighting the family who ordered and benefitted from the deaths of Elia and her kids: the Lannisters. After all, Oberyn and Doran were the ones who arranged the betrothal of Viserys to Arianne as part of the larger plan of getting the Targs back on the Iron Throne. They also sent Quent to try renewing the alliance. It would be fitting for El, as well as the rest of the Martells, to join with Dany when she arrives. Which seems to be Doran's goal.
Dany and El would be great friends since they have not only similar goals but so much in common as independent and fierce horse girls. They'll absolutely love each other ❤

Arianne Appreciation Week
Day 2: Doran
On the morning that she left the Water Gardens, her father rose from his chair to kiss her on both cheeks. “The fate of Dorne goes with you, daughter,” he said, as he pressed the parchment into her hand. “Go swiftly, go safely, be my eyes and ears and voice… but most of all, take care.”
“I will, Father.”
She did not shed a tear. Arianne Martell was a princess of Dorne, and Dornishmen did not waste water lightly. It was a near thing, though. It was not her father’s kisses nor his hoarse words that made her eyes glisten, but the effort that brought him to his feet, his legs trembling under him, his joints swollen and inflamed with gout. Standing was an act of love. Standing was an act of faith.
He believes in me. I will not fail him.

The sweet sister that she never had. She and Tyene had learned to read together, learned to ride together, learned to dance together. When they were ten Arianne had stolen a flagon of wine, and the two of them had gotten drunk together. They shared meals and beds and jewelry. They would have shared their first man as well: Drey.

Princess Arianne strode to the litter on snakeskin sandals laced up to her thighs. Her hair was a mane of jet-black ringlets that fell to the small of her back, and around her brow was a band of copper suns. She is still a little thing, the captain thought.

Dorne and house Martell week > day 5: favorite quote
The prince turned his chair laboriously to face her. Though he was but two-and-fifty, Doran Martell seemed much older. His body was soft and shapeless beneath his linen robes, and his legs were hard to look upon. The gout had swollen and reddened his joints grotesquely; his left knee was an apple, his right a melon, and his toes had turned to dark red grapes, so ripe as though a touch would burst them. Even the weight of a coverlet could make him shudder, though he bore the pain without complaint. “Silence is a prince’s friend,” the captain had heard him tell his daughter once. “Words are like arrows, Arianne. Once loosed, you cannot call them back.” - The Captain of Guards I, AFFC

The truth was, the princess was braver than her brother, and brighter and more confident as well. Her wits were quicker, her courtesies more polished. Nothing daunted her, not even Joffrey.

The women are the strong ones, truly.

A Song of Forgotten Characters ❧ ARIANNE NYMEROS MARTELL
The sun was gone, and the sky was full of stars. So many. She leaned her back against a fluted pillar and wondered if her brother was looking at the same stars tonight, wherever he might be. Do you see the white one, Quentyn? That is Nymeria’s star, burning bright, and that milky band behind her, those are ten thousand ships. She burned as bright as any man, and so shall I. You will not rob me of my birthright! ― The Queenmaker, A Feast for Crows.
