Apollo's letter to Phoenix [TRANSLATION]

I finally got the trilogy!!!!!!!

What made AA4 fail at starting a new trilogy is that it was made with the intention of doing so.
The original Phoenix Wright trilogy wasn't made with a trilogy in mind. It was a good game that got 2 sequels, therefore making it a trilogy. Each game building on what was established in the last.
This was done because there was no guarantee of another game. If they tried to set an interesting plot to explore in another game, and that game never happens. Then you're left with an unsatisfying plot hole.
Which is exactly what happened with AA4. The plot set up in Apollo Justice is honestly amazing. But the follow-through was lackluster. Most if not all of the plot points were very open-ended or incomplete. This is not an inherently bad thing, but none of these loose ends were tied up in the following game.
Dual Destinies is absolutely not a sequel to Apollo Justice. It's just not. None of the plot or themes from AA4 made it in. Honestly, besides Phoenix not having his badge for a few cases and the existence of Apollo, Trucy, and Klavier, this game has nothing from AA4.
This reflects badly on AA4 and reduces the enjoyment of it. The themes and the plot set up was good. But knowing it goes nowhere and does nothing makes it seem so pointless. Why assassinate Phoenix Wrights character if you're not going to do anything meaningful with it? Why introduce a new protagonist if you're not going to let him be the protagonist? Why have a new assistant if you're going to completely write her out of the story?
Apollo Justice was obviously trying to start a new trilogy. A new chapter to the Ace Attorney series. But then Dual Destines comes, and it's a soft rebrand. I feel like it's silly to call it "The Apollo Justice Trilogy". It's not. It's "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney" followed by "The awful 3D duology".
If AA4 was a more self-contained game, things might have been different. What makes the original trilogy so good is that the story builds on itself in natural but surprising ways. Edgeworth disappeared? Didn't see that coming, but it makes sense considering what happened in AA1, for example. But what makes these new stories good is that the games preceding them weren't explicitly lining up these plots. They were new stories branched off of previous game lore.
The end of Turnabout succession feels like a story prompt generator with all the unfinished stories it spits out. It's not horrible until you realize none of these stories will ever be told. It's such an unfortunate thing.
A lack of a good sequel is what kills AA4 for most people. This is the major fault with it. Making a game that relies on a sequel (a not guaranteed sequel) is a horrible idea. It makes it feel halfcooked.
I liked Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. But it does mark the end of good mainline Ace Attorney games.
