Anti Rhaegar X Lyanna - Tumblr Posts
Read this if you love Elia Martell and her kids too!!
A bastard.
A royal bastard was a disaster.
Elia thought, looking at the babe in the royal nursery.
In Aegon's crib.
"Take him to his mother. She is alive and well. This is not a place for him. He can't just come in and take my son's place. Take him away, give him to his mother."
"My queen. The King—"
"The king can rot with his father for all I care. Take this child away from here, this is Aegon's!"
Now, I am gonna add Lyanna in this but I am not sure to go which version of hers.
I am not her fan but I sympathise with her, if she ran away willing or not. I don't think she wanted to stay in the tower when the news of her father's and brother's death came to her. Ned's chapter make it look like that.
It will be fun to write either of them. I may mix them. As I said I am not a Rhaelya fan, at all. I am sympathetic to Lyanna because we all regret some stuff we did in our teenage years.
Talking to Rhaegar obsessed weirdos is always so funny because they’ll have every argument booted to defend him from being a creep with Lyanna Stark.
“GRRM wrote Rhaegar & Lyanna to be romantic” … “Lyanna was of age in that world”…
…”If you can’t stand age gap spicy relationships why are you reading ASOIAF?”….
….”yeah well George said Rhaegar was love struck” ….
…. “Yeah well Lyanna was holding winter roses!!!”
…”you just want woke points!!”
…”you hate that Lyanna had agency!!!”
But then POINT OUT that all of those arguments used to defend the Rhaegar & Lyanna ship ALSO apply to the relationship between Khal Drogo & Daenerys and SUDDENLY they understand why some people are rightfully uncomfortable with Rhaegar & Lyanna.
Then they understand that a child cannot consent, that it doesn’t really matter what the author wrote, and that the grown man character is unquestionably a creep.
Truly what is the difference between 14 year old Daenerys being pregnant by a man years older than her and romanticizing him as her sun and stars to cope and 15 - 16 year old Lyanna Stark dying in childbed after being impregnated by a man years older than her with dead roses in her hand? Daenerys could have unfortunately been written a similar fate.
Is it the fact that Rhaegar is the perfect white handsome prince that justifies his repulsive fictional actions?
So I say again we all have the cognitive abilities to understand that Daenerys at 13/14 is a grooming victim and a childbride but for some reason that goes out the window for Lyanna Stark being signaled out by a grown man at 14, sexually groomed at 15 and dead by 16.
If you can understand why people don’t like Khal Drogo & Daenerys and you don’t like it yourself despite all the arguments you use for R&L applying to Khal Drogo & Daenerys stop being a hypocrite and stop trying to justify it.
im sorry but i can never be a lyanna stan guys.
just lemme explain.
obviously this is only if she willingly went w rhaegar
To begin with, the situation in its simplest form is that Rhaegar and Elia are married, amicable yet not in love, and Rhaegar runs off with Lyanna, causing chaos to ensue amongst the realm.
Even if no war occured and everything was fine, how can Lyanna try to justify running away with a married man, especially on the way to her brothers wedding which feels very selfish, even if Brandon didn’t want to marry Cat, like she still ruined their wedding day.
Not to mention, that running with Rhaegar meant that shes inserted herself into his marriage which is Elia’s place. How nonsensical it is to run away with a married man and somehow marry him!
There’s two routes people go to justify it, and I’ll explain why I think they suck:
1) E-R-L is a polygamous marriage: This is not appeasable to the realm at all! Nobody will accept that. The only reason Aegon+Rhaenys+Visenya were accepted was because they were conquering Westeros, and like you can’t say shit about the guys conquering you!! Also the Targs were on thin ice then, and Maegor also tried, and look what happened afterwards!
2) E-R was annulled and R-L are married: I don’t think this is reasonable at all. Considering that Rhaegar is only HEIR, just like Daemon, for example. Both wanted annulments and both need the permission from the King and/or High Septon, but also considering how the likes of Aegon IV couldn’t annul his own marriage, do you really think a measly heir could?! At least in Daemon’s situation, he had no children, but as Aegon IV and Rhaegar both had kids (Elia giving birth twice in 3 years) theres no grounds for annulment, and it would disinherit his children potentially anyway, or even start a second Dance. As soon as you have a second wife, whether polygamous, annulled or dead first wife, war will be almost inevitable between the potential heirs.
Also Ik its not possible.. but can we stop with the E/R/L shipping in a serious manner (crackship is fine but in canon is 😐)
Like genuinely thinking mid-20s Elia would want to romance a 14 year old girl, would be fine with her husband romancing said 14 year old, or join in together, is so crazy to me. Like, yes Rhaegar is very much in the pedo-realm but why would Elia also follow suit??!
And like not to be a huge Robert Baratheon stan here (i hate GOT era him) but you can’t deny that it is the rebellion+it’s repercussions on his life, that change him so heavily into this twisted abusive, pedo man. He was not a great guy pre-rebellion, he slept around, was loud and rowdy, but I feel like you can’t really say that Lyanna somehow predicted that he would be this abusive evil man, tbh it seems like she just disliked his promiscuity which is valid, but in doing the same to Elia, her point gets invalidated in my eyes.
Also next point is the age-situation.
Now i know that obviously in a real life situation, a 14 year old girl is at no blame for the groomer actions of the adult…. however just look at how GRRM perceives this. like not as an “oh medieval girls married at 14, its fine” because they were still mentally children… but i mean how GRRM perceives relationships akin to R-L and characters by Lyannas age in ASOIAF-verse.
Ok so GRRM thinks R-L is romantic, which means that the groomer undertones aren’t necessarily meant to be there, and its meant to be more of a Romeo-Juliet situation (which heavily fucked over Romeos girl Rosaline ie Elia). He also believes Dany-Drogo and San-San is healthy, so I don’t think age heavily affects characters romantic feeling and actions much then.
Then if we see character Lyanna’s age, they’re treated as adults (yes some do have child impulses but overall adults). You have Robb acting impulsively like a kid, but ultimately being treated as an adult and being killed. I feel like even though they have kid impulses, they’re meant to get adult consequences for their actions.
Also ages as a whole is fucked up in ASOIAF in comparison to real world, like you have baby Rickon Stark going feral in Skagos, you have 3 year old Joffrey Velaryon/Strong squaring up to Aemond, and you even have 11 year old Benjicott Blackwood being an absolute beast of a warrior when in the real-world, he’d be just a kid, useless in defence.
lets also say that people like lyanna and hate Elia because of racism.
How can a poc princess better than their ''not like other girls' white girlboss lady' ?
Also lyanna becomes a character in their headcanons just by taking everything Elia had. Her position, her husband, children (or their names), friends, family (rhaella and viserys accepting her), loving brothers (though she had those). Also her life because why would their white lady be a second wife?
Idealistically lyanna couldn't have been anything other than a mistress if everything went right.
But tragically she died. She died calling for her brother. Elia died much more horrifically and both of them died due to the plague named Rhaegar Targaryen in their life.
No hate to the character but this fanon lyanna and her fans (who ship her with rhaegar!) are just as annoying as jonjaehaerysaegon starkgaryen 'dragonwolf' fans.
imagine dedicating your account for some minor character and never talking about her but always talking about Lyanna. Let’s also start by them calling Lyanna a “whore” or “homewrecker”. And also getting mad over people writing fanfics about lyanna being kind when she literally defended Howland Reed and gave him back his honor by defeating the men who beat him. Lyanna had a lot of personality of kindness and loveliness. Also bringing up that Ned was ashamed of her when Ned loved her and always thought about her. Like does a sixteen year old fictional character gets so many people mad that your whole account you speak on her name but never talk about your fav. Such loser behavior she knows how to get likes by trash talking lyanna. Also twitter calls yall fav a khia btw.
I thought I already debunked all of the Rhaelya shippers arguments, yet tragically, they are like hydras. Here I bring, Debunking Rhaelya shippers arguments, part 2:
"Jon would have loved his Targaryen heritage." Jon considers himself first and foremost, a Stark (a bastard Stark, but a Stark nevertheless), son of Ned Stark, the man who raised him and not Rhaegar Targaryen, who only sired him as a tool to further his own agenda, which is the "Prince that was Promised" (essentially the fantastical equivalent of an eugenics experiment) and would have given up on him because he wasn't the Visenya he wanted. What would Jon's reaction be if he found out that to Rhaegar he was nothing but a lab rat? Nothing but visceral hatred.
"Rhaegar would have set a council to depose his own father and rule as King." Rhaegar only appeared on the battlefield after hiding on Dorne the entire year, only after he made sure Lyanna was pregnant. And no Great House in Westeros would care about any council after being fired up enough, specially Rhaegar, who pissed off 4 Great Houses at the same time (Arryn, Stark, Tully and Baratheon)
"Rhaegar went to Dorne in order to live his romance with Lyanna." He took her to Dorne in order to keep her isolated from anybody other than himself and his Kingsguard (isolating your significant other from their loved ones is not romantic, it's a red flag of domestic violence, which already tells me this was not a love story) and if it was merely an affair, then why hide the entire year? Then why ordering the Kingsguard to kill anybody who comes for Lyanna, regardless of intent? Ned had to literally cut his way through the Kingsguard so he could see his sister again.
"Robert needed a villain to rebel because he couldn't accept Lyanna wasn't interested in him." While it's true that Robert was in love with the idea of Lyanna, the real reason he rebelled was because Aerys II demanded his head and that of Ned's in a fit of paranoia. It was a rebel or die situation.
Rhaegar and Lyanna's love story would have been too perfect, just like the star crossed romance thing if they were a little closer in age and Rhaegar did not have a wife already with children. Also his wife was a princess born from a kingdom which joined Westeros on their own terms.
We get to know about Rhaegar and Elia and their children in Chapter Three Game of Thrones way before even Lyanna's story is mentioned in Chapter Four and what happened to her, she died in her brother's arm, she wanted to come back home.
Mister George RR Martin knew what he was doing. And I don't know how still people read this story and think Rhaegar loved Lyanna and she loved him.
"She told herself she would die for him(Drogo), if she must. She was the blood of the dragon, she would not be afraid. Her brother Rhaegar had died for the woman he loved."- Dany(AGOT).
" If he loved you, he would come and carry you off at swordpoint, as Rhaegar carried off his northern girl, the girl in her insisted, but the queen knew that was folly."- Dany(ADWD).
It's so tragic that Dany romanticised Rhaegar and Lyanna story to the point she compared the couple with herself and Drogo/Daario. The fact that Drogo and Daario are the grown ass men who exploits Dany vulnerability makes them more close to Rhaegar.
Exactly!
Dany is a teenaged girl and imagines a romantic scenario and cannot see how the parallels are there but not in any kind of romance. It's in the exploitation and objectification and the complete mismatch of intentions and emotional investment.
Dany is an abused child who doesn't know or understand love and she imagines it where it doesn't exist. The profound inability to even grasp her own loneliness and isolation for what it is... deeply tragic.
