Adhd Headcanon - Tumblr Posts
Sooo uhh i got through ADHD!Hiccup headcanons and um
Ya’ll I can’t unsee it in the shows and the movies what is wrong with me??

Sea Hawk clearly has ADHD
Which isn't something I've seen people talk about much. So here's a list a list of his ADHD traits I've noticed.
Very impulsive.
Adora: We go on three. Ready? One... Sea Hawk: Forward! Adora: I said on three. Sea Hawk: I got excited.
His tendency to set ships on fire - poor impulse control. Also his love of fire could be connected to visual stimming?
ADHD seems to be common in pyromaniacs. (Sources include Pyromania: fascination with fire - The Diamond Rehab Thailand, Pyromaniac: Meaning, symptoms, and treatment, Pyromania - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics, and others. I went down a rabbit hole trying to get statistics on what percentage of pyromaniacs are diagnosed with ADHD, but found nothing.)
His thing with singing. Vocal stimming.
RSD! His fandom wiki article says he has “a strong desire to be liked due to him being quite far from home”, but rejection sensitive dysphoria also checks out.
Tends to be very loud - trouble controlling volume?
When is he like, actually still?
Randomly starts doing squats. Not just to show off or anything either; just… to move? And what normal neurotypical train of thought would lead to one just randomly doing squats there like that?
There's some other traits I totally imagine him having too, but those are fully in headcanon territory, not things we see in the show, so I'll stop here for now.
i was ranting to myself in a really disorganised fashion just now about how Barry has ADHD and like. dude. he absolutely has it. there's no way he doesn't. i myself am an undiagnosed ADHDer and i see so many traits in Barry. like.
in the rock opera 'The Very Last Minute', Barry spends the entirety of it procrastinating on training for the monster apocalypse and literally having almost every trait of ADHD ever. like when i watch this video and see Barry legitimately trying to do what he needs to but repeatedly getting stuck in a loop of jumping from task to task and struggling at actually get started on The Big Task™, i see me. like. that is me.
Barry tries to train. he really does. he really does try to take a crack at it, but he just can't focus on it. he just keeps getting distracted by it over and over and avoiding what he needs to do with other little tasks to keep him occupied at every single moment. and like he knows he really needs to do it. he knows that it's super important that he gets started on it as soon as he can. in fact, there are several lyrics to this effect: "Gotta keep focused, gotta keep training, but I just can't seem to stop procrastinating" and "I should probably stop working on this rocking theme song" are a couple that come to mind. but for whatever reason, he just can't focus on it properly and it ends up with him looking like he's "lazy" or "not putting in the effort". like, you see him get exhausted by doing a single skiprope jump, and that is how i feel whenever i try to do a big task when i'm not ready for it or focused at all. it's really really heard to focus on something that seems so big and overwhelming when you have ADHD, so you often kind of try to avoid it and ignore it because it's super daunting by doing smaller tasks. the difference between executive dysfunction and perceived laziness is that if you were being lazy, you wouldn't care and would likely be having a great time slacking off, even when you are reminded of the task at hand. but with executive dysfunction, you can forget about it for a while, but deep inside you likely still care and know you NEED to get the task done soon, and when you're eventually reminded or suddenly remember, you feel a crushing sense of dread. at least, that's how it is for me. and all the excessive task switching and getting everything else done except The Big Task™ you need to get done the most? i do that! i do that!!!
Barry literally does the ADHD thing where he sets an alarm that tells him to do what he needs to do, but the thing is that he was already doing something else on his phone beforehand and presumably forgot about the alarm, so when the alarm goes off, he just feels like he suddenly can't and that it's way too daunting to actually start because it feels like an intrusion. like. that's the ADHD thing!!! he's doing it!!!! he's doing the ADHD thing!!!!! his executives are NOT functioning!!!!!!
Barry also shows a lot of ADHD traits in 'Rainbow Barry' as well, as they're the most prominent in that specific short. in fact, he shows literally every single inattentive trait in all of the shorts together. impulsiveness, distractibility, impatience, forgetfulness, commitment issues, not following instructions properly, he's even got the emotional problems that come with it like being easily angered and frustrated. he EVEN shows the same traits in the JJ2 event dialogues!!! like!!!! look at the dialogues on the JJ wiki and tell me he isn't having ADHD traits!!!!! bro is clearly showing each individual ADHD symptom in everything he's in and either no one is noticing it or no one is talking about it and i'm just SO obsessed with this headcanon/theory of mine. Barry Steakfries is an undiagnosed ADHDer and nobody can convince me otherwise
Luz has adhd and her being a human trying to be a witch is a metaphor for her being neurodivergent, here’s why
Note that this is just my take on the canon and it’s okay if ya disagree. And if I get anything wrong feel free to tell me because while I’ve researched, I’m not a professional. Also I typed this out three weeks ago but eh it’s all good
Anyway, first I’ll say why I think she has adhd. While the stereotype of someone with adhd is a kid who’s hyper and can’t sit still and is super impulsive (and while for some people that’s their experience), adhd in women often looks different because females are more likely to have inattentive adhd.
Some symptoms of adhd are (also I’m summarizing to keep this somewhat brief)
1. Lack of focus/tendency to daydream/being easily distracted
2. Impulsivity
3. Fidgeting in seat/inability to sit still
4. Talking excessively
5. Hyperfixation
1. In the episode Adventures in the elements, Eda tells Luz to sit still and focus on the boiling isles.

Despite her best efforts, she can’t focus and her mind starts wandering. She plays out fake conversations and then when she gets bored she leaves

2. Ties into my first example because when Luz gets bored, she immediately looks for something to distract herself and finds that instant gratification in stealing Amity’s wand. And she definitely wasn’t trying to be malicious because we see how quick she is to regret it when she sees how it affected Amity.

In a similar manner, she took Eda’s staff without thinking. She didn’t really think through the fact that she didn’t know if she could even fly it, how close Eda and Owlbert are, the idea that she might hurt him.

This example is a bit different from the first one considering how King lies and said she had permission, but it also displays the cycle of Luz doing something impulsive and then immediately regretting it. It’s a familiar cycle for many people with adhd
3. Again, ties into my example of adventures in the elements. She can’t sit still for the life of her. Also, she’s often jumping around and stuff instead of just walking
4. When Luz was looking at the Hexside pamphlet, she couldn’t stop talking about it. When she gave her book report in the first episode, she got super into it to the point where here principal/mom were left there confused. And she talks about the Azura books to anyone who will listen to her
5. To build off of 4, although Luz can seem “lazy” or “unmotivated” when it comes to activities most girls her age like (exemplified in the first episode)
When Luz is into something, she gets really into it. Whether it be her art, Azura books, Amity, or magic, her passion shows. If she cares about it, she’ll give 110%
What this means in the context of the series
Even if my theory that Luz specifically has adhd isn’t true, she’s at least neurodivergent or “weird” in the context of the show. And how she related to other humans has clear parallels to how Luz relates to other witches. In Covention, Luz says

“It [magic] doesn’t come naturally for me, like it does for you. So I’ve had to improvise”
Because Luz’s body doesn’t naturally have the capacity for magic like witches do, she has to find her way around that, her own way of doing things. And, with the adhd analogy, because her brain isn’t like those of most of her peers she has to find her own way of doing things. That doesn’t mean she’s worse as a witch or as a person. What the Owl house is saying is that that difference is awesome.
I feel like Luz will have a moment where she connects the dots and realizes that just like with her learning magic, her differences are just as valid
WE KEEP WINNING

Currently watching Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3 (MLP:FiM S4 E21), and I can already tell that Rainbow Dash is neurodivergent.
