Something that I appreciate a lot about blue exorcist is that it doesn't rely on gags or gimmicks for its humor. I mean a lot of characters like Mephisto or Rin are gimmicky, yes, but to me the humor shines brightest when it's just the characters interacting. The characters from blue exorcist are written very well and their interactions feel like how realistic friends and teenagers interact. They tease, jokingly bully eachother, they have inside jokes and express emotions realisticly. Those interactions, to me at least, are some of the funniest interactions I've ever seen in media.
