People often ask me about accessibility stuff when it comes to walkable cities so I’m gonna highlight some stuff I find to be cool
Raised intersections! These are intersections where the road gently rises to the level of the sidewalk, acting as slight speed bumps for cars and eliminating the need for going up and down ramps with mobility aids or carts

Level train platforms and user operated bus ramps! Ramps operated by external buttons and level platforms make it so that wheelchair and walker users don’t need to speak to a driver to access transit

Moped cars/micro cars! Miniature cars often used by people who can’t use bikes. Many of them are so small that they fit in bike lanes

Frequent bench placement! A walkable street is one with places to rest.

Air conditioned bus stops! In places where it often gets super hot frequent bus stop placement combined with air conditioning can make transit safer and more accessible to more people

Cargo bikes! Who needs a car when you can haul your stuff and/or dogs around in a bike?

Accessibility tip:
If you want to automate your home a bit, but you don't want any "smart" tech, you can just buy remote controlled power sockets instead

They are a lot cheaper and easier to set up and use than some home automation smart tech nonsense
They don't need an app (but some models come with optional apps and there are apps that are compatible with most of these)
Many of them use the 433mhz frequency to communicate, which makes most models compatible with each other, even if they are from different manufacturers
The tech has been around for a long time and will be around for a long time to come
You don't have to put any fucking corporate listening devices like an amazon echo in your home
Models for outdoors exist as well

I won't be using Alaska Air if there are any other options available.
When I say “school should be disability accessible”, I don’t just mean we need handicap rails and EAs. Kids should be able to miss a day without failing out of school. You shouldn’t be dismissed from clubs because your attendance record is “spotty” (true story). I once missed an entire week of school because of a terrible, unending migraine. I was expected to keep up with my studies despite the blinding pain that came with working on my computer. When I heard my teachers say that you couldn’t miss exams, I asked what I would have to do to be excused from them. Their response? “Either get a doctor’s note an hour before the exam or death of an immediate family member.”
I cannot express how rigid this expectation was. First of all, with my condition, I wouldn’t have enough warning about my sickness to go to the doctor and request a note. For many people, this is exceptionally difficult, especially with the current shortage of medical professionals. Next, it ignores the fact that my schedule may not line with theirs because of my medical needs. Once, I had to visit a hospital a province away (which I was on the waiting list of for over a year) on the same day as an exam. I begged my mother not to take me because I was so nervous that I would be marked as an automatic fail. I was lucky enough to make it work, but that’s only because of my spectacular support system consisting of family members and wonderful doctors.
Disabilities aren’t always about needing a bus that can accommodate wheelchairs. It’s already difficult enough for many of us to maintain school attendance without the harsh punishments involved for skipping a day. We need to be able to miss school without being punished. Only than can you claim that the school is “accessible”
we don't need walkable cities, we need accessible cities that are safe, reachable, and accommodating for both pedestrians and people who rely on personal motor transportation. pass it on

Personal note, I did skip listing the numbers showing retweets, likes, etc because I've seen others skip it to avoid confusion. If I should add it in future memes, please let me know.

There are two sections of text and a photo in-between them. The first text reads,
this is not pro-disabled.
this is anti-homeless architecture disguised as disabled accommodation.
do not be fooled.
The image in-between shows an outdoor bench in the desert with brick pathway underneath it. The middle of the bench has been removed and is labeled with a disability symbol.
The next text has the username, ratchel @girlmeat5557 and reads,
not to be "that guy" but wheelchair users are not starved for places to sit down

A tweet by Fin @gofinurself reads,
My mom is a prosecutor and every year she brings up the fact that Mother's Day is the day with the lowest crime. I think that says a lot about how many moms commit crimes throughout the year, but can't today because they're too busy being celebrated.

Just a little PSA for all our mental health (and chronic pain*) spoonies out there! A lot of doctors neglect to mention this little side effect, which means a lot of us are suffering extra from the heat without knowing why.
*Many psych meds are used to treat chronic pain as well, if you didn’t know!

Personal: To answer, yes. If no one can demand the blood of another then they cannot demand an organ.
I would never claim ownership of a kidney or someone's stomach either.

“My body, my choice” only makes sense when someone else’s life isn’t at stake.

Personal: I searched through as many of the over 100k reblogs as I could to find an ID post. I couldn't find one and everyone deserves goober hours. Especially ancient goober hours.

I might have overdone it on caffeine tonight. Maybe. Just a smidge.
