The Terrible Black Dragon of Revachol...

...except he’s really just a brown dragon with melanism.

I recently finished playing Disco Elysium and it was great! I’m STILL riding the high of managing to fool the local thug boss of Martinaise into thinking I was the most CORRUPT of corrupt cops. Composure’s “Black Dragon” comparison stuck with me. So y’know...

Harry dragon. As a treat.

DOLORES DEI

DOLORES DEI

More on her in the Abyssal DE timeline below... (potential spoiler warning!)

I did some reading up on Dolores Dei, long dead native of Elysium, yesterday at the point of writing this blog post. What I read, while undoubtedly altered a bit through time and 300 years worth of retelling the same story, fascinated me.

If the logs and retellings are to be believed, she exhibited hostal symptoms, which should be impossible since she never once channels at any point. She’s dead. The fact that she was murdered by one of her own therriers who claimed that she wasn’t human supports this, but take it with a grain of salt. Potential insanity and all that.

Currently within the Abyssal DE timeline she holds the title of “False Host” to me (less to the natives of Elysium) due to these reasons. Abyssal Harry (the true, ACTUAL host) finds Dolores Dei so frightening that he’ll enter a terrified territorial reaction, the fact that she’s been long gone from life does little to calm him down unless you manage to distract him. When he sees her, his Inner Intelligences let him know quite hard that she’s LIKE him, but in a way that isn’t right. She’s masquerading, while Harry’s the real deal. Like a worse version of uncanny valley.

I’m still in the early stages of this AU but that’s the general gist so far. False host shows up 300 years ago, fucks around with hostal powers she shouldn’t logically have, and then a real host shows up way later. In the form of a psychic corspe-looking drunkard.

Abyssal Renegade. How I Imagine The Militsioner Protagonist.

Abyssal Renegade. How I imagine the Militsioner protagonist.

OVERALL - Design was deliberately made to resemble a Pandemic Express human (mainly Rebellion and Leader) in the process of turning into a zombie. This is lightly based on one devlog video where the Militsioner expresses concern over the player, stating how the player seems to look ill and is in need of an ambulance. MASK - Also made to resemble a Pandemic Express human. The mask is there to signify the separation between the real life player and the world Militsioner takes place in. The fourth wall, the invisible barrier where one looks in but can't be truly seen from. The mask is made of damascus steel and is called "Crying Prisoner". BODY - I always envision "invisible" videogame protagonists (where you don't use arms/hands to grab stuff and can't see your body when you look in the mirror, and can't see your feet when you look down) as being ghost-like and spectral. Thusly, the Renegade's body is shifting and smoky, with added aesthetic pleasures such as inkiness and sparkles. Legs added for aesthetic pleasure. TENDRILS - As "telekinesis" is the main method of grabbing objects in plenty of first-person games, I envisioned the Renegade as being totally armless. Tendrils grow out of the shoulders that purely assist in the Renegade's climbing and parkour. The arms have a soft lightning resemblance, in order to mess with the Militsioner who is afraid of thunder and lightning.

CLOTHING - My attempt at creating clothing that would signify an otherworldly individual that has been excised from society, lost, alone, and affected by constant background fright. Miscellaneous Factoids -The Abyssal Renegade can be optionally voiced by the real life player, but this also allows for the capability of mimicking any known sound in the world.

-The Abyssal Renegade can also be incredibly loud by choice. Earlier videos showcase your voice being so powerful that it could knock down certain objects from where they stood, but this power remains to be seen in more modern videos.

-The earliest rendition of this design showcased the Abyssal Renegade as a black spectral with two legs, one eye, and two glowing white lungs. It's been following this general design throughout, but these aspects are simply hidden beneath clothing.

-One of the weaker Abyssals that I have cooked up.

-Originally I thought that the Abyssal Renegade was quite short, but it turns out they're quite the opposite. The Abyssal Renegade is around 192-194cm.

In Starstruck, the way you interact with Planet Earth is via a little portal that the Captain (you, in this case) sticks their hand through.

While I'm not quite sure what's going on with Earth on a finer scale, the fact that everything on Earth is so small and made out of toys while the Captain is large and realistic suggests that the entire planet is already affected by the "Mold", like a type of worldwide radiation that nobody on Earth seems to have noticed in any meaningful way.

As such, the Captain's hand towers over many singular housing units found around Earth. Picking up people would be easy if that was the mission. So I was thinking - what if you could grab someone from Earth and pull them back into the Captain's satellite through the portal?

The kid that the Captain is holding will be fine. The Captain is destructive towards infrastructure, but the worst they do to actual human beings (Mold affected ones, in this case) is just to knock them down on their bums. Often by accident.

"I was kidnapped by a space monster giant today."

Sara, usually the chipper and very active girl, sounded matter-of-fact. Like she was stating something as true as the sky being blue.

She was ignoring the plate of meatballs and potatoes placed in front of her. Typically her favorite dish, but now being given less than zero amounts of attention as she stared at her friend, waiting for a reaction.

"Oh yeah?" Came the only response from her friend, sitting opposite to Sara. He'd never heard her yap about something like this before. The only "monsters" Sara ever yapped about were butterflies and centipedes. The rare frog or two at times. All quite terrestrial and decidedly not gigantic.

Immediately after the friend showed even slightest interest in what Sara had just stated, she pulled out a somewhat crude drawing like she was a cowboy doing the fastest draw in the west, and placed it on the table for showcase. The drawing illustrated a small representation of Sara being held by a massive, yellow-toothed creature with black eyes, two dots of bright green acting as pupils. The thing must've been too big to draw on the paper since it cut off at the shoulders.

Yeah... definitely not any kind of typical insect Sara would yap about.

Perhaps one of the stranger parts was that the friend got the feeling that this creature was humanoid. Sara had even drawn it with five fingers, and a tone of skin on those bare hands that you'd see on any average stranger you'd walk by on the streets.

Maybe this had something to do with that giant disembodied hand attack that had happened down a few blocks.
