Chapter Five: In Trust

The glittering lights of the brightly lit town square were slowly swallowed by darkness as they walked along the footpaths adorned with scattered lamp posts. They stepped among the pools of light only to once again be plunged into darkness and continue until they found themselves in the next one. The sky had faded from it’s dusky pinks and purples to a deep blue that teetered on the edge of becoming totally black. The lonely clouds were still circling high above them, hiding and revealing the specks of stars blanketing the night sky.

“Dude I honestly swear I’ve lived through this day at least a million times.” Soonyoung sighed, dropping to the floor, feeling the cold, hard wood pressed against his own body. He toyed with a loose thread on the carpet across from him and waited for Seungkwan to speak up.

“Yeah sure dude, and I’ve never handed—“

“—an assignment in on time, don’t be stupid, Soonyoung.”

Seungkwan raised an eyebrow at his elder and then waved off Soonyoung. “Okay cool you can finish my sentences, it’s not a feat for you to have guessed I was going to call you stupid, I do it every other conversation anyways.”

Of course Soonyoung knew he would brush him off. He knew that no matter what he said, Seungkwan would never believe him and he knew what exactly was going to happen next.

“Seungkwan, you should back up your work right now or this’ll be the first time you hand an assignment in late.”

“Yeah, whatever. I’m almost done with this essay anyway so all I have to do is proofread it and send it in.” Seungkwan brought his cup of green juice to his lips to take a drink and at that same moment, Seokmin burst into the room yelling about good news. Seungkwan jumped and dropped his drink, choking on the rest of the juice that had gotten halfway down his throat and into the wrong pipe. The cup he dropped fell onto his laptop and seeped into the device causing it to malfunction.
