Lysi

As I lay you 6 feet in the ground

Arms stretched as if they could hold you again,

The beat of my chest is both erratic and seizing,

There are no tears that could suffice the loss of you.

The wind blows over and chills the empty hull,

As if God were preserving you for longer,

But it’s not the body I wished to keep my Lord.

Deeper and deeper you move into the ground,

And the last of my desires fall to lay there with you,

Words cannot express my anguish,

Even death mourns my loss

Dear

One inch closer,

I step in your direction and then take two steps right back,

I want to say I love you but the words dissolve like sugar on my tongue,

I try to speak but my body will not allow it,

If any courage was left it would be drowned in my anxiety,

And my thoughts are suppressed in the deluge of my depression,

How wonderful you are, that is all I want you to know,

In the silence of your absence,

I have no refuge to release my emotion,

The tears fall in silence.
