Poem, theme: alone

Dear

One inch closer,

I step in your direction and then take two steps right back,

I want to say I love you but the words dissolve like sugar on my tongue,

I try to speak but my body will not allow it,

If any courage was left it would be drowned in my anxiety,

And my thoughts are suppressed in the deluge of my depression,

How wonderful you are, that is all I want you to know,

In the silence of your absence,

I have no refuge to release my emotion,

The tears fall in silence.

Today

The wind is blowing fiercely outside my window. The house creaks slightly under the pressure. As I lay in a blanket enveloped in warmth, I remember I am home. Slowly I rise and remember my promises. And the promise of a bright future awaits.
