HEY STAR TREK FAM
Aron Eisenberg (Nog from DS9) is currently in the hospital in critical condition. We aren't sure of details yet but PLEASE keep him in your thoughts, and pray or send good vibes. You can follow his podcast's facebook page, The 7th Rule, for updates.
Hi, I would like to ask for the impression on Max, Lucy, and Grampa. Love you girl, you've been through a lot and you've made this Tumblr so so so pure.
Oh!! This is super cool!! Also thank you very much. I really am very lucky to have taken this over, and it makes me happy that people are enjoying it.
Max
First impression: Oh he’s so creepy, gonna die.
Impression now: Hate. Hate. Hate. Hate.
Favorite moment: When he gets hit with a bat kite. I thought he was gonna die.
Idea for a story: I want to tell the story of him wondering how the Lost Boys™ can be useful.
Unpopular opinion: Great potential, prolly liked Lucy.
Favorite relationship: Maria, he got her off the street!
Favorite headcanon: When David kills him tbh
Lucy
First impression: Awww cutie!
Impression now: THAT’S MY MAMA!!
Favorite moment: “Groovin on a sunny afternoon!” And “Dad!… Dad?”
Idea for a story: Getting the news that Sam got staked and was a half-vamp.
Unpopular opinion: She should be a vampire and mom the boys.
Favorite relationship: Her boys tbh, she will kill for them. She has killed for them in the comic.
Favorite headcanon: She’s a green witch!
Grampa
First impression: Lmao who is the goofball
Impression now: I will lay my life on the line for you Grampa.
Favorite moment: “One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach…all the damn Vampires™.” Or “Well now you do.”
Idea for a story: He killed the widow johnson so like… I want the idea of him stalking his house and waiting for the boys to show up.
Unpopular opinion: Fuckin needs a tv.
Favorite relationship: Him and his girl. You can tell he cares about Lucy, not wanting a vamp to hurt her.
Favorite headcanon: When he buys a tv and is half-vampire.
Employer: So, Sam, what did you do prior to applying at Claire’s?
Sam: Oh, I was a Frog wrangler.
Employer: …A frog wrangler?
Sam: Yep, full time.
I have seen a lot of people saying that Billy’s behavior cannot be excused by his abuse. They have used other characters in the show to prove that people who are abused don’t become Billy, and that he chooses to be the way he is.
And I think that the issue is multifaceted and complex, but I mostly want to look at the abused characters in the show and explore why/why not they behave in certain ways.
Jonathan and Will: One very big case of abuse. Their father, Lonnie, is a shithead. As bad, if not worse, than Neil Hargrove. Yes, these boys could continue that cycle and be just as bad. But who do they live with? Who do they have for a mother? Joyce Byers. A woman with so much love and kindness in her heart that she would NEVER let them end up like their dad.
Eleven: Also a massive case of abuse. When we meet her, she is extremely young and really has no sense of identity or the world around her. But she stumbles into a family - Hopper and the party. Who knows who she’d become if not for them telling her that she isn’t a monster? And when Kali and her gang try to get her to behave in a way that opposes her morals, she turns to that support system to remind her who she ought to be.
Nancy, Mike, and Holly: This one is interesting. Someone said that Ted is a bad father. I agree. But absentee father is not quite the same as a dad who hits you. Either way, these three have Mrs. Wheeler, a loving, genuinely good mom.
Max: This one is interesting to me, because Max’s abuser is Billy himself. And while the relationship with her mother doesn’t seem perfect, it seems warm enough. Plus she’s got friends on her side to give her the strength and courage to stand up for herself and basically conquer her abuser.
We see the pattern here. All of these characters who have been abused have someone else, someone who is the antithesis of their abuser, on their side. Showing them love and kindness and care, and helping them to overcome.
Who does Billy have? No one. His dad is clearly his abuser. The relationship with Susan is strained, and she is fine to watch on as he is hit without saying a word. Billy’s own mother is nowhere to be found, which means she is either dead or just isn’t involved. He has no friends. He has no one. He has no Joyce Byers. No Jim Hopper. No friends to keep him in check or remind him that he can be better.
So it’s really no wonder, then, that he behaves the way he does.
