you punch best friend!doyoung’s shoulder as he laughs, teasing you about the way your face reddens every time you talk to johnny. doyoung thinks your blush is adorable - although he would never admit it to you - and wants you to find happiness in a romantic relationship. doyoung is always complaining about how you keep dragging him out of his comfy bed on weekends because you don’t have a boyfriend to go on a date with. maybe if you got a boyfriend, you wouldn’t blow up his phone every saturday with constant texts and calls begging him to go to a new restaurant or café you discovered online.

but when you call doyoung to squeal and announce that johnny asked you out, doyoung feels a pang in his stomach he can’t quite decipher. he smiles, though, because he can practically hear you beaming from over the phone. your voice trembles with happiness and love, and doyoung laughs to congratulate you for finally scoring yourself a hot boyfriend. he tells himself it’s a win-win situation now; as much as he loves his best friend, doyoung is a homebody who wants a break on saturdays.

well, at least he’d thought so. as the weeks pass by and you start calling johnny instead of doyoung, texting johnny instead of doyoung, asking johnny to go to restaurants on saturdays instead of doyoung, doyoung finds himself missing you more and more. the two of you do meet up occasionally, text, and call, but it doesn’t feel the same anymore - especially when you get distracted by johnny texting you. although doyoung had expected this, he feels less important to you - unimportant, even.

doyoung thought he would be happy for the both of you when you started dating johnny, but as the days pass, the only thought on his mind becomes the fact that he misses you. doyoung misses you and your late night calls, your voice melting into soft, deep breaths as you fell asleep before him; he misses your constant updates about cute boys you saw at coffee shops; and he misses your habit of interlocking your fingers with his subconsciously when you were bored. he misses taking you for drives to target at midnight and cracking stupid jokes only the two of you would laugh at; he misses you always letting him borrow your oversized jacket, as he gets cold easily and you’re naturally cold-resistant; and he misses having you sleep over for movie night, lending you one of his smallest hoodies that still seems to engulf your smaller body, leaning on each other for comfort, and blurting dumb comments throughout the entire movie until one of you tells the other to shut up.

but above all, doyoung misses being the most important boy in your life - since you’re still the most important girl in his.

you and best friend!johnny watch the orange-pink sunset from the roof of his house, your head leaning on his chest. you’re sitting by his side, your legs across his lap and his arms resting on your legs. the two of you are enveloped by the fluffy grey blanket johnny stole from your house years ago and “accidentally” took back to korea. soft music plays from his phone a few feet away, the sound fading into the orange sky.

you haven’t done anything like this with johnny in years - much less even seen him in person in a while - because of johnny’s busy schedule and constant practice. so when johnny had finally gotten his first long vacation in years, he had decided to come see you. (to be fair, it was also to see his parents, but he promised you were big part of the reason he decided to come back to chicago rather than travel france with the rest of his members.)

johnny missed you more than you can imagine. johnny has always been an amazing listener, especially for his members - he is the one all the members go to if they have a problem they want to rant about. but whenever johnny needs to rant, he always calls you. and you listen to johnny, whether it’s 2 am or 2 pm - and he loves to do the same for you despite his busy schedule.

to johnny, you’re his best friend and favorite listener - his partner in crime, his go-to call for winter ice cream, his cooking buddy for messy aftermaths and ugly cakes, his most feared enemy in snowball fights, his favorite person to crack inside jokes with, his best human pillow for daytime naps.

and as johnny rests his head on yours, absentmindedly toying with your fingers as he murmurs whatever comes to mind, he knows that you’re genuinely listening to him and he feels as if he is finally, truly home.

[the hunger games - with jaehyun]

“feels like... feels like christmas,” district eleven!jaehyun murmurs, his eyelids fluttering heavily. “you, me. the snow. red blood, green trees. feels cozy.” he lets out a strange choke that seems to have been the beginning of a chuckle too painful to finish.

you would laugh at jaehyun’s joke if he wasn’t on the ground bleeding out from a hole through his heart. you’re kneeling in the snow next to him, sobbing uncontrollably as the snow around the both of you gradually stains red with jaehyun’s blood.

“hey, hey,” jaehyun mutters, trying to get your attention. his gentle fingers wrap around yours, and he smiles that dimpled smile you’d come to love. “i’m alright. i’ll be okay. this is what happens here in the games.”

you shake your head insistently, still sobbing as jaehyun’s thumb draws small circles on the back of your hand, trying to make you relax.

“this isn’t going to make it any easier for either of us, love,” he says weakly. you press jaehyun’s hand to your cheek, his cold fingers against your warm skin wet with tears. “you know, i-i didn’t know dying would feel like this.”

“w-what is it like, jae?”

“peaceful,” he breathes, a giant cloud of smoke evaporating from his bloody lips. “like christmas... like the christmas last year i spent with my family, like that warm loaf of bread the five of us shared. it was... the first meal we’d had in days.” he meets your eyes wistfully. “i wish you’d been there. my family would have loved you.”

“i wish i’d met you sooner, somewhere else,” you tell him softly, but you know it‘s impossible; you’re from district twelve and jaehyun is from district eleven. you would never have crossed paths, much less fallen in love. “i wish we could spend christmas together.”

“i love you,” says jaehyun, as if he knows he doesn’t have much time. “i love you, (y/n).” his fingers reach to wipe the tears from your eyes. jaehyun doesn’t have the strength to cry right now, and wishes you wouldn’t, either.

“i love you, jae,” you sob, one hand cupping his cheek and the other clasped above his hand on your cheek. “i love you so much.”

“listen,” jaehyun says, more weakly than before, “you’re going to take my stuff. i have a waterbottle, some food, medicine, and a knife in my bag. take my stuff and run north, opposite from districts 1 and 2. whatever you do, don’t eat anything you haven’t seen an animal eat before. i’ve seen so many poisonous fruits in this area that i can’t even identify some of them. climb a tree and do whatever you need to and please, please win for me.” he smiles softly, then doubles over in pain as he violently coughs blood.

“jaehyun!” your eyes flicker from his eyes to his bloody lips in concern.

he shakes his head. “i’m fine.” he looks into your eyes. “can you do that for me, (y/n)? win for me. go back home for me, tell my parents i love them.”

“i-i will, jaehyun,” you breathe shakily. “i’ll win for you.”

jaehyun smiles one last time. his hand goes limp in your grasp, and you place your hand over his eyes to close his blank, glossy eyes.

“i’ll win for you.”

it’s a lazy afternoon - one haechan hasn’t had for years since his first debut. you and haechan sit facing each other on the floor of your parents’ art studio, the coldness of the marble somewhat muffled by the newspaper you sit on. you are painting sunflowers on each other’s hands; your sunflowers stem from the roots on the wrist of his left hand and bloom near his fingers, while his sunflowers messily graze upon the entirety of your left hand. you laugh because they kind of look like burnt scrambled eggs, and haechan laughs because your laugh is so damn cute (but also because he thinks so, too). he then playfully attempts to flirt seductively, calling you his flower with a wink, a lip bite, and that look - to which you can’t stop laughing uncontrollably, but press a messily placed kiss to his cheek because he’s just so adorable. haechan’s eyes light up as he peppers your face with kisses, making you giggle as you entangle your fingers in his damaged hair in a joking attempt to pry him away. you can’t remember the time you’d laughed this much - or felt this happy. but haechan always seems to do that to you.

the afternoon sunlight smiles upon the both of you from the large, circular window behind you. the golden light kisses haechan’s eyes into a deep shade of sweet honey, and you know you’d love to be even a scrambled-egg-looking sunflower if it meant that you would be able to look at your sun forever.
