"I should be embarrassed and annoyed... But this is just too funny..." Maggie snorted, not even the least bit ashamed that she found this joke funny. What can you say? She was a fan of corny jokes that made everyone else just roll their eyes or wish the ground would open and swallow them up.

Maggie walked through the streets on her way to the park when she suddenly heard a quiet squeak. She paused briefly and cocked her head to the side before walking in the direction of the noise to see what it was. When she got to the source of the noise, she saw a little squirrel desperately running back and forth in a barrel, trying to get out.
"Aw, hey little fella." Maggie greeted him with a friendly voice so as not to scare the little animal even further. "How did you get in there, hm? Can't get out out of there again?" She continued to speak calmly while she pulled a few nuts out and carefully placed them in the barrel with the squirrel. "You must have been in there for a while now…" she murmured as she gently petted the squirrel.
Slowly but surely, Maggie gained the animal's trust and carefully lifted it out of its prison. "There you go," Maggie whispered and brought the squirrel near a tree where she put it down. "Now you're free again."
Maggie placed a few more nuts next to the squirrel, which it quickly collected before the squirrel gave Maggie one last look and then ran away. With a smile, Maggie looked after the squirrel as she saw it running towards a girl. A girl with a… squirrel tail?
"'Hoi polloi'?" Maggie repeated confused and tilted her head as she raised an eyebrow. She had never heard of one of her father's friends named Tess. Then again she barely had heard of any of his friends and she also never really asked.
For a moment, Maggie looked her up and down, keeping her distance just in case Tess wasn't really who she said she was. After a few seconds, Maggie looked up into Tess's eyes again. The woman in front of her didn't seem to be lying or she was just very good at hiding it.
Even if Maggie was good at reading others she still had her weaknesses and could be deceived. "I'm Maggie," she finally said in a calm but careful tone. She rarely told strangers her real name right away, but if Tess was a friend of her father's, it wouldn't make any sense to give her a fake name.
"You can use my hand," Maggie suggested as she made waving motions with her hand and looked up at her father. As she lay on his bed, she tried to catch his hand with her feet again. A trait she clearly picked up from her father, who often used his feet to do certain things, even though her feet weren't quite as flexible as his, let alone as big as his. "And don't forget: pancakes with blueberries!" She pointed it out to him, raising her finger to make it clear that the blueberries were essential and particularly important and should not be forgotten or missed under any circumstances.
With a cheeky giggle, she curled up in Hank's blanket as he corrected her about the two weeks. "Two weeks in your world, in mine it was only two days," she insisted, rolling over with the blanket to snuggle up to Hank. "I slowed down time so we can play much more and cuddle and read books and watch movies and dance and sing… and do experiments!" She stumbled over the word experiments again, while she counted all the things she liked to do with Hank on her fingers.
Not that she actually took part in his bigger and dangerous experiments. But whenever there was something she could help with, she was his first little helper, ready in full spirit and in laboratory protective clothing that was way too big for her. Even if she didn't really need it, the feeling had to be right after all and that included the right clothes. It also didn't help that Maggie loved dressing up and would never miss any opportunity to do so.
While she snuggled up to Hank and listened to his suggestion, she put her legs on his once more and grabbed his hand, with which he had pushed her finger down, to play with it, before letting go shortly afterwards. "Hmmmmm," she tapped her lips thoughtfully and squinted her eyes as if that would make thinking easier.
"Deal!" She then answered after a few seconds and held out her hand to him to seal the deal. Even though the sparkle in her eyes, before her masterful acting performance, had already shown that she would had accepted his compromise right away. But of course she had to make everything a little more dramatic. Where else would the fun be after all?
Maggie grinned back with a grin that clearly rivaled Hank's as she happily danced back and forth while continuing to play with Hank's fingers. "🎶 I am the best bard, I am the best bard. And you the best artificer! 🎶" she sang happily, struggeling with the word artificer first and kept pulling on his fingers as if they were dancing to her singing. As she finished her little song, she put his paw back on her head, grinning up at him. "And your hand is now my hat." she giggled excited.
Then she crawled off his lap and threw herself on the bed next to him, making a big stretch. She then tilted her head and frowned, giggling. "Not true. It wasn't two weeks, just two days," she tried to argue while holding up two fingers. If Hank didn't already know better, Maggie's cheeky giggle and grin would have definitely put her off, knowing it wasn't the truth.
Nevertheless, she was very sure that she had come across as more than just convincing. She certainly completely ignored the look that Hank gave her, knowing full well that it definitely wasn't just two days.
"Three scoops!" She then tried to convince him, and now showed three fingers instead of two to emphasize her words again. "And what about the chocolate sauce and whipped cream?" She asked innocently but still with her cheeky grin.
It was definitely worth a try.
