I'm a conceptual artist and my work is largely influenced by my academic interests in classics, ancient history, translation, and philosophy of language. This blog details conceptual, casual and personal projects on which I am currently working. To see the Stitched Iliad project, please check out the Stitched Iliad blog below.

More glaze issues. -_- first cobalt contamination, then clumping, now pinging/crazing. Though I don't think this particular mask will look any worse for crazing.

The mask that wants to be. I never expected this mask to be. When I was fettling it, it cracked seven times. But it still held it's shape. I patched up the cracks, and fired it, fully expecting that when I opened the kiln all the cracks would have reappeared and/or it would have fallen apart. It didn't. One crack reappeared. When I glazed it, after numerous tests of the glaze, it was the only mask which took the glaze well. The rest are plagued by crawling. An the sole crack she had sustained in the first firing had been filled by glaze. I've had masks crack before. Despite my best efforts, I've never had the glaze fill the crack.

I love this one already. Steph, this is yours. I may have to make myself one, though. She's beeeeautiful.
