Did all readers grow obsessed with books because they just liked it so much or majorly because it helped them escape unpleasant realities which turned into an unhealthy avoidant coping mechanism that ultimately did more good than harm?
I'm realising that's what I was doing the whole time and have yet to understand what those unpleasant realities even where.
For those of you who have actually been to therapy, I have a question - where there instances when you realized that something that happened or something someone did actually deeply hurt you only after your therapist explained it to you?

I have only recently learnt that I might be asexual but I think it will take some time and a lot more introspection to fully claim the word but I think the major reason I preferred written smut over visual is because in the written form, someone would actually be explaining what the characters were feeling in that moment. I was(and still am) so clueless about what sexual attraction feels like that I had to have someone explain to me step-by-step what sex would actually feel like.
Does this make sense to you? If it does please respond and I would love to hear about your experiences too.
