Seven long days are left until it is over. All of your hard work will finally pay off and you will finally be able to say that you are officially a college graduate, and not from just any college, you are graduating from Oxford University. You have spent the last four years dedicating your life to nothing but furthering your education and in 168 hours you will be holding a diploma in your hands from one of the most prominent universities in the world.

You’re drinking with some of the friends that endured the same struggle that you did bringing you guys even closer. You clink your glass with your companion and chug the contents, sighing a sigh of relief.

“I can’t believe we actually made it, Ruki,” you announce before chugging the rest of the ale in your glass.

Ruki raises an eyebrow, “thirsty?” he laughs.

“Real women don’t sip they chug,” you smile before waving the bartender over to order another round for you and your friend.

“I never seen you drink at all before,” he states, chugging the rest of his own drink.

“That’s only because I had to focus on my studies but now I’m officially free,” you explain, staring at your classmate.

You never realized how attractive Ruki is before this moment. Maybe it was because of the stress of college but whatever the reason was, you’re certainly noticing it now. His doe-like eyes seem to be locked onto you. Maybe he’s finally noticing you as well. His dirty blonde locks were hanging over his face hiding one of his eyes but you could still see the intensity in them. His nose is the most perfect shape, it’s the kind of nose that people pay a lot of money to surgically obtain. His lips are rather inviting, they naturally curl upwards in the corners and all you can seem to imagine is how they’d feel against your skin. But you force that thought out of your head. What are you doing thinking of Ruki in this way? He’s just a fellow classmate, despite his prince-like features and appearance you have to remember that in the past four years never once has things crossed the line so why would they start now?

Ruki shakes his head, moving his tousled hair out of his eyes. He raises an eyebrow, “what’s on your mind, Y/N?” he asks in a lower, almost seductive voice.

“I’m just thinking about,” you start to say but trail off due to getting so easily distracted by his closeness. You suddenly realize the proximity of his body. A mixture of cologne, deodorant, and the mixed berry chapstick that glistened his lips overtakes your thoughts as you try to stay focused.

“Thinking about what?” Ruki repeats, slowly moving the loose strand of hair out of your face, gently securing it behind your ear. When his hand grazes your cheek, chills instantly shoot through your body and any chance of you staying coherent is completely gone. “Can I just tell you?” he says softly, moving his face even closer to yours, making your heart beat so hard you are certain he’s able to hear it. “I don’t know why I’m only noticing this now but you have the most gorgeous eyes that I have ever seen before.”

And there it is, 11:48pm, the time that will forever be engraved in your mind as the time that your life has changed forever. Your phone starts vibrating on the bar before you have time to respond to the beautiful prince, now only inches away from your face. You glance down to see a photo of you and your brother on the screen of your iPhone. You sigh as you sit up, knowing that your brother would never call you at this hour for nonsense.

You mouth an ‘I’m sorry’ to Ruki before pressing your phone up to your ear and saying, “This better be important, Shogo.”

The name seems to spike the interest of the handsome boy who backs away, clearly disappointed by the slight rejection. He is fidgeting with his lighter that was previously lying flat on the bar in front of him. He watches you, from the corner of his eyes, noticing the sudden change in your demeanor. Everything from your facial expression, down to your body language instantly changes. He knows right then and there that any chance of tonight being the night he’s been secretly dreaming of is completely out of reach.

As soon as you end the call, he turns and asks, “is everything ok?”

Tears are gathering in the corner of your eyes, as you fight to keep them contained, but the panic is still written clearly all over your face. “There’s been an accident,” you whisper. “I have to fly back to Tokyo.”

“Oh my god,” Ruki gasps, placing a comforting hand on your shoulder. “What kind of accident?”

“I’m not sure,” you sigh, gathering your belongings. “But it’s my father…I’m sorry I have to go.”

You stand up, rushing towards the door. You head outside waving a taxi over. After climbing inside, the tears start to slowly break free from their prison. They stream down your cheeks as you give the address of your apartment to the driver.

Everything from here becomes a blur. When you get the news of a loved one’s possible demise it’s hard to comprehend the amount of emotions that race through your existence. You maneuver through the motions in almost a mechanical, robotic motion. After you gather some belongings from your apartment, the taxi drives you to the airport. This is the most grueling part of your journey. At normal hours, this is easily close to a three-hour car ride but at this hour the trip is nearly cut in half.

The taxi pulls up to the entrance and you hand him two hundred dollar bills, telling him to keep the change as a thank you for getting you to your destination both safely and in record time.

You exit the cab, stunned to see Ruki standing by the entrance. “What are you doing here?” you ask.

“When you left, you seemed so out of it,” Ruki starts to explain as he takes the small travel bag you are holding from your grips. “I have to go back to Tokyo as well. I wasn’t planning on leaving till next week but I figured you could use the company so I rushed here and got us two tickets a while.”

His explanation leaves you completely utterly stunned. You always liked Ruki but you never saw this side of him. He never acted like he cared this much before but you can’t lie, it makes you feel special. The tears start to flow again, embarrassed by the display of emotions, you look away from him. You feel his arms pull you into a warm embrace, somehow easing some of your discomfort. He pulls back, moving your face upwards with his hand gently on your chin.

“I’m here for you, Y/N,” he whispers. “In whatever way you need me.”

“I appreciate that,” you smile, shyly.

Ruki leans in, pressing his lips onto yours but only for a few seconds, only enough to leave you wanting more. “Come on, we gotta catch our flight,” Ruki says, grabbing your hand and pulling you behind him as he walks into the airport.

After a twelve hour flight, your plane lands in Tokyo. You stand up, stretching before following your friend off of the plane. You turn to look at Ruki, “thank you for doing this for me.”

“Eh,” he shrugs, nonchalantly, “it was nothing.”

“What do you mean it was nothing?” you ask, placing your hand on his chest. You want to grab him and pull his body against yours. You want to feel him again but you don’t have the balls to do something so forward.

“I don’t know what is going on with you but I could tell you could use a friend,” Ruki announces. He leans forward and presses his lips against yours. He pulls away, staring intently into your eyes, “and I want to be the person that you can always depend on.”

“Y/N!” you hear someone yelling your name.

You turn to see your brother running towards you. How are you going to explain the boy standing with you? Shogo is an overprotective brother and he never thinks anyone is good enough for his perfect baby sister.

“Oh god, here we go,” you sigh, taking a deep breath turning to look at Ruki who is no longer standing behind you. You look around, searching for where he could have slipped away to but to no avail.

Shogo runs over, wrapping his arms around you, “I’m so glad you finally made it,” he says. “I just wish it could be under better circumstances.”

You pull away to look at your older brother, solemnly, “so what happened?”

“This isn’t the place,” Shogo states, furrowing his eyebrows while examining you. “Who was that guy?”

“What guy?” you ask.

“Um, well nevermind then,” he sighs, grabbing your arm. “We gotta get going, I’m not sure how much time we have left.”

You follow him out of the airport, to a blacked out Mercedes suv parked right out front of the entrance. He opens the passenger side door for you to climb in. When you don’t move, he turns to look at you, “what are you doing, get in.”

“I don't think you’re supposed to park here,” you sigh, climbing inside.

Shogo ignores your remarks, slamming your door shut then walks around and climbs inside the driver’s side. He fires the engine up, “actually dear sister, I can park anywhere I fucking want to.”

“That’s not how things work,” you argue, rolling your eyes at his ignorance and flat out stupidity. “So NOW can you tell me what’s going on with father?”

Shogo takes a deep breath before speaking. “Father was going to one of his business meetings and his vehicle was shot up.”

“Why would anyone want to hurt him?” you gasp, feeling the tears starting to form in your eyes again.

“He’s a very important person in the company and sometimes this stuff happens,” he explains as vaguely as possible.

You know the explanation is not a good one, you’re not an idiot, afterall you spent most of your life preparing to become an attorney but you decide not to argue, now isn’t the time for that. You turn to look at your brother with tears streaming down your cheeks, “Shogo,” you whisper. “Is father going to be alright?”

“No,” he states, fighting back tears of his own. “He’s on life support and is barely holding on. That’s why I said we had no time to fuck around.”

You don’t respond, mainly because of what is there to say. Your father is dying and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to save him. And the worst part of it all is that you haven’t spoken to him for years all because of your stubbornness and need for independence.

Shogo pulls to the front of the hospital, parking his car at the entrance. This time you don’t question his choice of parking, there are bigger issues at hand and honestly who cares if he gets a ticket. You get out of the vehicle and follow him through the hospital. You watch as different staff members silently greet your brother as a show of respect. You don’t understand why anyone would be showing respect to your loser brother but once again, now is not the time to question.

You follow your brother inside of a private hospital room, where your father is laying helpless, hooked up to all sorts of machines. You feel your knees shaking and the room starts to spin. “Oh my god, daddy,” you cry, running over to his side. You grab his hand, squeezing it, “please don't leave me daddy. I love you.”

Shogo walks behind you, placing his hand on your back attempting to aid some comfort which only makes your sobbing increase. You look up at him with tear stained cheeks and glassy eyes, “he can’t leave us, Shogo, we need him. He needs to see me graduate.”

“He has always been so proud of you, Y/N,” Shogo sighs, fighting back his own tears.

“No he hasn’t,” you argue. “I’m a disgrace. I never fit into the little cookie mold like I was supposed to. That’s why he sent me away to boarding school in the U.S and never allowed me to come home. He’s always been ashamed of me, unlike you. You’re daddy’s son, the perfect child, the one he’s so proud of and couldn’t wait for you to take over the family business.”

Shogo laughs a little but only because of how dead wrong you actually are. “You have always been his favorite and that is why he sent you away. It was for your own protection, Y/N. If he knew you were here right now, he would be so upset with me. There’s so much you don’t know and I can’t tell you but you need to understand that everything that father has done for you, has been done completely out of love, not shame.”

“That doesn’t make any sense,” you state, laying your head down on your father’s hand. “Please don’t go, daddy, I’m begging you.”

The constant beeping of the heart monitor stops. Your father’s heart flatlines, his body starts seizing on the bed as nurses run into his room and the chaos starts to erupt. Shogo grabs you by the shoulders, pulling you outside of the room to allow the medical professionals to work in peace. You turn, burrowing your head in his chest, unable to control the sobbing.

The door to your father’s room opens and the nurses start to exit, none of which are making eye contact with you or your brother. You follow him back inside the room, just in time to see the doctor pulling a white sheet over the body of what used to be your father.

“I’m so sorry, sir,” the dr. says, looking at Shogo. “We tried everything we could but he was gone.”

Shogo’s face is drained of all colors, and his eyes turn dark. You could see his ability to control himself leave his body and the loving caring brother is no longer there. He flips the table at the end of the bed, throwing it harshly against the wall. “THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS WILL PAY,” he screams. He storms out of the room, leaving you behind.

Jacob walked up the stairs leading to the main entrance of the girls’ dorm building. He walked inside and sat in the main lobby, waiting on Y/N to come downstairs. He happily sang a song in his head for entertainment, becoming increasingly impatient.

“I told this girl that I didn’t like to wait,” he grumbled to himself. “She should have been waiting down in the lobby for me.”

Ryujin and Yuna walked down the stairs, seeing Jacob sitting alone. They exchanged glances with each other before walking over to him.

“Hi Jacob,” Ryujin smiled.

Jacob looked up, smiling with a head nod, saying hello without using actual words.

“I see you got all dressed up for Y/N,” Yuna smirked.

“Jealous?” Jacob asked.

“No, I like my men to be real men, not someone’s lap dog,” Yuna laughed.

“Who’s lap dog am I?” Jacob asked, raising an eyebrow to examine her.

“If you honestly don’t know, I feel bad for you,” Yuna smiled.

“What are you even talking about?” Jacob snapped.

Yuna looked at Ryujin with a mischievous smile, “boys are so stupid, aren’t they?”

“And girls are such sluts,” Jacob grunted. “What’s your point?”

“Tell me, Jacob. Does Y/N know why you’re taking her to the ball?” Yuna asked.

“I’m taking her because I really like her,” Jacob smirked.

“I didn’t even believe that answer,” Ryujin said.

“Did I hear Jay yell your name?” Jacob asked.

“Oh my god, did you?” Ryujin asked. “I gotta go, I don’t want to keep him waiting.”

As Ryujin ran out of the lobby, leaving the building to look for her love, Jacob smirked at Yuna, “you’re looking pretty sexy tonight. Maybe you and I could have some fun later.”

“You are disgusting,” Yuna said, scrunching her nose in disgust.

Before Jacob had time to respond, Y/N started walking down the stairs into the lobby. Jacob stood up, watching her with his mouth opened.  She looked like a princess coming to meet her prince. That uneasy feeling returned in Jacob’s stomach, which he still tried to ignore.

“Be nice to her,” Yuna whispered. “She’s actually a sweet girl and doesn’t deserve to be treated like this.”

“I’ll be nice to you,” Jacob smirked, grabbing her ass before she walked away.

“I’m sorry if you were waiting long for me,” Y/N sighed, walking over to Jacob. “I forgot my lucky necklace and had to go back to my room to get it.”

“The wait was well worth it,” Jacob smiled. “You look absolutely stunning.”

“Awww thank you,” Y/N said, as she felt her cheeks getting warm.

Jacob placed his arm out for Y/N to grab, “shall we?” he asked.

Y/N placed her arm in his and followed him out of the building. They made their way to the auditorium where the masquerade ball was being held. It was like nothing she had ever seen before. The school that she used to attend never went to such lengths for dances and this was something out of a movie.

They walked inside, everyone turning to look at the two entering together.

“Jacob, I feel like everyone is looking at us,” Y/N whispered.

“They’re not looking at us,” Jacob muttered. “They’re looking at you. And I can’t blame them, I can barely keep my eyes off of you.”

He was so good at making her feel special. Everything was feeling like a fairytale. Jacob led her over to a table, pulling a seat out for her to sit.

“Can’t we dance?” Y/N asked.

“No,” Jacob grunted, looking around. “Not yet.”

Jacob noticed Y/N locking eyes with Jungwon, who was smiling at her from across the room.

“You’re here with me,” Jacob snarled. “It’s not really appropriate for you to be screwing other guys with your eyes.”

“Jacob,” Y/N gasped. “What is wrong with you?”

“I’m sorry,” Jacob sighed. “I’m just starting to get these feelings whenever I’m with you and it’s driving me crazy.”

“Really?” Y/N smiled.

“Yea, really,” Jacob said, placing a strand of Y/N’s hair behind her ear. “I’ve never felt these kinds of things before and I don’t know how to handle it.”

“Oh Jacob,” Y/N smiled, leaning in and hugging him.

“I’ll be right back,” Jacob said, standing up. “Don’t move from this spot.”

“Wait, where are you going?” Y/N asked.

“Don’t move from this spot,” Jacob repeated. “Do you understand me?”

“Yes of course,” Y/N nodded as she watched her date disappear into the crowd.

“You look breathtaking,” Yeonjun announced, walking up behind her.

After recognizing the voice, Y/N quickly turned around, smiling when she saw Yeonjun standing there.

“Thank you,” Y/N smiled, kindly.

“I see that you’re here with Jacob,” Yeonjun stated.

“Yea,” Y/N nodded, fighting the feelings she had towards Yeonjun. “He’s a really sweet guy and I’m so happy.”

“Please be careful with him,” Yeonjun whispered. “I don’t think Jacob is who you think he is.”

“What does that mean?” Y/N asked.

“Yeonjun, baby,” Karina said, walking up to them and grabbing his hand. “I want to dance.”

Karina looked down and saw Y/N staring back at her. “Oh hi, Y/N.”

“Hi Karina,” Y/N said, attempting to force a fake smile onto her face. “You look very pretty tonight.”

“I know right?” Karina laughed, turning her back to Y/N. “Can we please just go dance?”

Yeonjun smirked at Y/N while shrugging, “please just be careful ok?”

“I will,” Y/N sighed.

Once Yeonjun and his date were out of sight, Y/N sat back in her chair, trying to deny the fact that she was slightly jealous that she wasn’t the one dancing with him. That eerie, familiar feeling started creeping into her body. She knew what that feeling meant by now and it scared her to death. Y/N looked around but didn’t see anyone she didn’t know or anyone really paying attention to her.

“What was that about?” Jacob asked, sitting back down on the chair.

“What was what about?” Y/N asked.

“I saw Yeonjun over here talking to you,” Jacob stated.

“Oh yea he came over to say hi and asked if I was here with you,” Y/N explained.

“You need to be careful of him,” Jacob lied.

“What?” Y/N asked. “Why?”

“When I was on my way to pick you up, Yeonjun stopped me and said really awful things about you,” Jacob continued lying.

“What did he say?” Y/N asked.

“I’m not going to tell you because I don’t want you to be upset about it tonight,” Jacob said. “Tonight is our special night and we’re all that matters.”

“Why did you bring it up then?” Y/N asked.

“I just want to make sure my girl is safe and knows what she is dealing with,” Jacob said.

“Your girl?” Y/N repeated.

“Oh my god, I’m sorry that slipped out,” Jacob smiled, covering his mouth pretending to be embarrassed.

“It’s ok,” Y/N sighed, looking down at her feet.

“Will you do me the honor of dancing with me?” Jacob asked, standing up and placing his hand out for her to grab.

A huge smile from ear to ear grew on Y/N’s face, she placed her hand into his and followed him onto the dance floor. A slow song was playing, Jacob placed his hands around Y/N’s waist and she wrapped her arms around his neck, laying her head onto his shoulder.

She was able to see Yeonjun dancing with Karina and they kept making eye contact.

Jacob pulled away, “I’m so glad you made it,” he said, smiling at Hyunjun, Eric, and Changmin.

“Jacob what’s going on?” Y/N asked.

“I want to introduce you to one of my best friends, Hyunjun,” Jacob announced.

Hyunjun grabbed Y/N’s hand, bringing it up to his mouth, lightly pressing his lips onto the top of her hand.

“It’s a pleasure to finally meet you,” Hyunjun smiled. “You’re even more gorgeous than I’ve heard.”

“Um thank you,” Y/N said, hesitantly, pulling her hand away from him.

“May I cut in?” Hyunjun asked.

“No,” Y/N said, bluntly.

“Don’t be so harsh,” Hyunjun smiled. “It would mean so much to me if you would just give me one dance.”

“Maybe later,” Y/N sighed, “but I’m dancing with my date right now.”

“You’re gonna dance with Hyunjun now,” Jacob ordered as his eyes turned black.

“But Jacob, I’m here with you. This is our special night,” Y/N argued.

“Don’t be so naive,” Jacob huffed. “I didn’t bring you here because I like you, it was only for my friend here.”

“But you said you were starting to get feelings for me,” Y/N said, feeling her cheeks beginning to get warm.

“I lied,” Jacob smiled. “I could never like someone like you.”

Y/N smacked Jacob’s face before turning and running out of the ball with tears streaming down her cheeks. She ran down the hall, going into an empty storage room.

“Well well well,” a man’s voice sounded out from the shadows. “I was wondering when you would finally be alone.”

“Who’s there?” Y/N asked, frantically.

“Don’t you think you should be thanking the people who bought you that beautiful gown,” another man said, appearing from the shadows.

“Who are you?” Y/N wondered.

“Your mother wore that exact dress,” Donghae stated.

“But you look much better in it,” Eunhyuk sighed.

“Who are you?” Y/N repeated.

“Friends of your parents,” Donghae stated.

“I don’t know if you’d actually say friends,” Eunhyuk corrected. “But your father will be so excited to hear that you’re with us now.”

The morning sun shines through the window, waking Donghyuck from his deep slumber. He rubs his eyes, attempting to wake himself up a little more. He rolls over, wanting to give you a proper wake up call, only to find that you are no longer in his bed. He glances around the room, finding no signs of you. Donghyuck crawls out of his bed, leaving his room, praying that you didn’t go home while he was sleeping. He checks the garage but only his father is in there. He then walks inside his parents’ house, surprised to see you in the kitchen alongside his mother.

“Good morning, sweetie,” she says with a giant smile on her face before kissing her son on the cheek and exiting the kitchen, leaving the two of you alone.

Donghyuck walks over to you, watching as you dish food out of a pan onto a plate. “Awww,” he smiles with such love in his eyes. “What’s going on?”

“Here,” you smile, handing the plate of food to him. “I wanted to return the favor of your hospitality and show my appreciation.”

Donghyuck looks down at the food, pushing it around with his spoon, “I’ve waited so long to eat this.”

You look at your feet, avoiding eye contact. “I’m the one who waited.”

He stops playing with the food, looking up at you, moving only his eyes. You can feel him staring at you, causing you to feel a little uncomfortable. You don’t like to show any signs of vulnerability. “Whatever,” you sigh, quickly trying to change the subject and put on a tough act. “Try it.”

You watch as he scoops up a spoonful of food and shoves it into his mouth. The anticipation is killing you. You want him to be impressed with your cooking, you want to show him that you are capable of taking care of him, and that he doesn't need anyone else but you.

Donghyuck looks at you with his classic smirk, “yea I can eat this.”

Stunned by his answer, you look down at the food then back up at him. “Does that mean it’s good or bad?” you ask.

He eats another mouthful of food before saying, “I’ll sit outside to eat.”

“So is it good or bad?” you repeat, following behind him as he walks out of the kitchen.

“Do you want some?” he asks.

“Hyuck?” you sigh.

“It’s amazing,” he announces, forcing a smile onto your face. Your reaction is so genuine that you couldn’t have controlled it, even if you wanted to.

After he is finished eating, you go back into his room to get dressed while Donghyuck works on his motorcycle. You make your way down into the garage with your bag over your shoulder.

“Well, she’s fixed,” Donghyuck announces, proudly. “So you won’t have to stay over another night.”

“Just hurry up, I have things to do,” you tease, playfully.

Donghyuck’s phone starts to vibrate, he pulls it out of his pocket, looking at the screen.

“Oooh the grades have been posted,” he announces. He opens his phone, navigating through the different screens. He finally faces the screen towards you. “Here, tell me what my grade is, I’m too nervous to look.”

You blink a few times before getting a little closer to the screen, “It looks like you got an ‘F’,” you say.

“What?!” he gasps, almost on the verge of tears.

“I’m just kidding,” you giggle, “you got a C-.”

“Oh my god,” he exhales deeply, placing his hand on his chest. “This was one of the toughest classes. I was really worried about it.”

You watch with a huge smile on your face. Donghyuck is so cute and his reaction brings pure joy out, deep inside of you.

“How about you?” he asks. “Did you get your grades?”

“Not all of them yet,” you explain. “But I know I’m passing the real tough ones.”

“See,” he smiles, widely. “It’s the power of the Sai Dam Hermit Shrine. You know the one that we worshiped. But now we need to redeem our vows.”

“Is it your turn to pull a joke on me?” you laugh.

“I mean it’s really up to you,” he shrugs. “But as far as I know, whoever doesn’t come through with their vows…never graduate.”

He pats your shoulder in a bit of a condescending way, leaving you speechless. You aren’t superstitious but he really seems confident on this subject.

Donghyuck hands you your helmet and climbs onto his bike, waiting for you to get on the back.

♡♡♡A few days later ♡♡♡

You walk through the market alongside Donghyuck, taking in everything he was saying.

“The hermit soul loves sour foods,” he explains. “So I was thinking that we could cook something for him. I already asked if we could use Jaemin’s kitchen.”

“Is this a good idea?” you wonder.

“Jaemin doesn’t mind,” Donghyuck states.

“No, I mean walking around here with me,” you sigh, looking around. “Aren’t you afraid that someone will see us together?”

“What is there to fear?” he smirks. “Afterall, we’re here to get stuff for the shrine’s offerings. It’s not a date.”

You try to deny the fact that his comment kind of cut through you like a knife. You want it to be considered a date and it doesn’t seem fair that it can’t be that way.

A little girl, holding a basket of flowers, walks up to the two of you. “Excuse me sir,” she says, pleasantly. “Would you like to buy some flowers?”

“Sure,” he smiles, eagerly glancing in your direction then quickly focusing back on the girl. “Would you help me pick some out? I want to buy some for my girlfriend.”

“What is your girlfriend’s favorite flower?” she asks.

“Well….ummmm….what is it again?” he hesitates.

“Hey Hyuck,” Mark shouts walking up to where you both are standing, Soojin and Chenle followed closely behind. “What’s going on?” he asks.

Their presence throws Donghyuck into a straight panic. “I told you that I didn’t want any,” he huffs at the girl. “Now get out of here and stop wasting my time.”

“What?” the girl asks, confused.

“Go over there,” he orders, pointing at another group of people. “I’m sure they’ll buy some of your flowers.”

“Did you really just shoo her away?” Chenle laughs.

“Yea well I already told her no and she wouldn’t listen,” Donghyuck huffs. “And why are you guys here?”

“Jisung asked us to buy some groceries,” Soojin explains.

“Why are you here, Y/N,” Chenle wonders, suspiciously.

“Well….” you hesitates. “Donghyuck asked me to help him.”

“Oooooh,” Chenle says, clearly unsatisfied with your answer.

“I didn’t want to bother you and waste your time,” Donghyuck lies, trying to help convince his friends that it is harmless. “Let’s just shop…I’m sure Jaemin is starting to get impatient.”

He quickly walks off, everyone following behind. After you all bought everything necessary you follow them to Jaemin’s house.

“Holy shit,” Donghyuck gasps. “Did Jaemin renovate again?”

“He has too much money that something like this doesn’t even make a dent in the vineyard’s heir’s pocket,” Soojin boasts, winking at you.

“I should marry a vineyard heir and then I wouldn’t have to worry about anything in life,” Mark sighs.

“Are you talking shit?” Jaemin asks, walking outside of his house with Doyoung and YangYang following him.

“Who would dare talk shit about you, Jaemin?” Mark gasps.

“No one,” Chenle says, rolling his eyes.

“Why are you two here?” you ask, looking at your friends.

“I ran into Jaemin at the university and he invited me,” Doyoung explains. “What about you?”

“Jaemin invited me too,” you lie, looking at Jaemin with pleading eyes.

“Whatever guys,” Jaemin interrupts. “Let’s just get inside and get this moving.”

Everyone stops the inquisition immediately and follow him inside.

“Why don’t we split into teams,” Mark suggests, once inside.

“Jisung will be in charge of the spicy salad,” Chenle orders. “You will be making the chipotle corn salad and Mark, you will make the green mango salad.”

“So I will be…” Mark smiles.

“The salad slut,” Chenle snaps.

“Don’t be so harsh,” Mark pouts. “You’re too mean.”

“And the kids, Doyoung and YangYang, you will help Jisung,” Chenle continues barking out orders.

“Ok,” Doyoung nods, walking over to where Jisung was standing, along with YangYang.

“Donghyuck, you’re making the steak salad and the papaya salad,” Soojin announces. “Chenle, Mark, and I will help you.”

“Yea ok,” Donghyuck nods.

You wait to be told what your job is going to be.

“YangYang,” Jaemin whispers, winking at the boy when he looks at him and signals with his head at you standing alone across the room. “Everybody has help making their dishes and yet no one wants to help me make the lemon tarts.”

“Well Y/N can help you,” YangYang suggests. “She once baked a cake for us and it was heavenly.”

“Perfect,” Jaemin smiles.

“Oh hey,” Donghyuck interrupts. “You can actually take Soojin, Mark, and Chenle. I can team up with Y/N.”

“No, no, no,” Jaemin shakes his head, walking over to where you are standing. “Two is enough for the tarts.”

“Now, don’t fight over us,” Mark laughs.

Jaemin guides you over to his work space, while you can’t help but to look at Donghyuck with a sad expression on your face.

“Y/N,” Jaemin says, getting your attention. “You should put an apron on so you don’t stain your clothing.”

He places an apron over your head, moving his body closer to yours. He reaches around tying the strings behind your back. He is so close to you that you are able to feel his hot breath on your neck.

“I think the hermit spirit will like lemon tart,” Jaemin whispers.

“Are they hard to make?” you ask.

“No, not at all,” Jaemin smiles. “We begin with tart dough, try to knead the dough like this.”

“Like this?” you asks, imitating his actions.

“Yes, very good,” Jaemin smiles. “You can be rough, you don’t have to be afraid.”

Donghyuck watches the exchange filled with jealousy. He wants to be the one cooking with you, sharing this memory with only you. It wasn’t fair that Jaemin got to share this experience with you.

“Oh my god guys,” Soojin gasps. “Look at their chemistry, they are so cute together.”

“Right,” Mark nods. “They would make such a cute couple.”

“She’s so cute and small and he’s the perfect man,” Chenle announces.

“You can tell he really does like her,” Soojin adds.

Donghyuck can’t listen to their comments any longer. He slams his hand down onto the cutting board, sending juices from the fresh produce to splash up onto his face. You want to run over to his aid, make sure he is ok but know it would make things too obvious.

“Don’t worry about Hyuck,” Jaemin announces. “He’s always clumsy like this.”

You stare for a few seconds fighting the urge to run over to check on him. You know the pain that he is experiencing and all you want is to be able to comfort him and tell him that everything is going to be alright. But by doing this, it would expose everything that you two had worked so hard to conceal so you just continue to cook alongside Jaemin, pretending not to care.

You gather a few dirty dishes and walk them over to the sink, placing them inside. You stand still, silently debating in your head on whether or not you should wash them. Your friends follow you over to the sink, bringing more dirty dishes with them.

“What’s going on with you and Jaemin?” Doyoung asks, placing a hand on your back. “I saw him put your apron on and it really seems like he likes you.”

“Noooo, that’s how Jaemin is,” you deny. “He’s just really nice to everyone.”

“But it’s different with you,” YangYang argued.

“You both are being annoying,” you scowl, flicking water into both of their faces. You walk away and return to your assigned work station where Jaemin is busily working on the lemon tarts.

He smiles when you return to his side, “Y/N,” he says softly, handing you a dessert. “This is for you.”

You look down at the dessert then look back at Jaemin who is still smiling proudly. “Thank you,” you sigh. You could feel Donghyuck’s eyes burning a hole through you, making the situation even more uncomfortable and unsettling.

“Oh no,” Mark gasps. “We forgot about the pad see ew.”

“Oh god, we did,” Chenle panics, looking around at all the various dishes that they all prepared. “What are we gonna do?”

“I know,” Jaemin perks up, continuing to smile like a fool. “Y/N and I can go get some from the market.”

“I’ll go with,” Donghyuck offers, dropping the mixing spoon he was currently using to combine the ingredients together in the bowl in front of him.

“No, you have to stay to finish that,” Soojin states, pointing down at his unfinished concoction.

“Someone else can just finish it,” Donghyuck suggests, “it’ll probably turn out better that way anyways.”

“Then you won’t get credit for helping,” Chenle adds. “You know the rules. We all have to see a dish from start to finish so if you leave now, you’re going to have suffer the consequences of not following through with your commitment.”

Donghyuck searches for the right words to combat his friend's statement, parts of him not caring if he doesn’t fulfill his commitment. You are becoming more important to him than he wants to admit and he doesn’t want you going anywhere with any other man other than him, especially Jaemin.

“If you don’t stay and finish this, you might not graduate with us,” Mark says.

Marks comment instantly brings Donghyuck back to reality. He recognizes that his friends are correct and he has to stay in order to not screw up his upcoming graduation.

 - . -

You trail behind Donghyuck, strolling around the local market. You didn’t want to come with him but he didn’t have any acceptable excuses to get you out of it. Jaemin turns back to make sure you’re still behind him, smiling and turning back around, bumping into a woman you don’t know.

“Oh my gosh,” Jaemin gasps, bending down to pick up the package that the woman dropped when they collided. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart. Are you ok?”

She smiled at Jaemin’s gorgeous features, shyly checking the boy out as he handed the package back to her. “I’m ok…now.”

“Ok good,” he nods, waiting for her to leave. She stares a few more seconds, almost as if she waiting for him to continue the conversation. After not getting the satisfaction that she is craving, the woman winks and walks off, leaving Jaemin behind.

He doesn’t comment on the woman and he obvious attraction for him, instead he turns and smiles at you. Signaling with his head for you to continue to follow him. He leads you over to a stand with bunches of flowers. He picks up a bundle, handing money to the lady standing at the register and turns to give you the bouquet of flowers.

“Won’t all of your little fan girls get jealous if I hold these for you,” you scoff.

“Y/N, I didn’t give them to you so you can hold them for me,” Jaemin says. “I bought them for you.”

“Oh,” you sigh a little surprised by his gift.

“Come on, you’re a smart girl,” Jaemin continues. “I’m sure you can tell that I kind of like you.”

You look around, uncomfortably, thinking about how you should respond to his confession. “Yea,” you sigh, “I can tell.”

“Well…” Jaemin stared at you with hope in his eyes.

You glance at him but quickly look away. You don’t want to hurt his feelings because Jaemin is a really nice guy. He seems to be very caring, considerate, and compassionate but you don’t have feelings for him. You wish you could like him but your heart wants someone else, no matter how out of reach that one is, you cannot deny what your heart is screaming at you.

“Does your silence mean that you don’t like me?” Jaemin frowned, still having a tad of hope in his eyes. “Or is it because you’re interested in someone else?”

Before you have time to respond, Donghyuck runs up to the two of you. “Jaemin, you’re needed at home,” he gasps in between breaths. “Your tarts are burning and nobody knows what to do.”

“But I didn’t get the pad see ew,” Jaemin argues.

“Y/N and I can handle that but we’re all screwed if your tarts burn,” Donghyuck says, trying his damnest to convince his friend to go home.

Jaemin exhales deeply, “alright, go,” he announces, turning to look at you. “I guess, I’ll leave you here, then.”

You nod, slowly, refusing to make eye contact out of guilt. But you can’t like how happy you that Donghyuck showed up, it’s actually the highlight of this little outing. Jaemin turns and walks towards the entrance, leaving you and alone with his friend.

You smile at the boy, “did you finish your dish?” you ask.

“Sure,” Donghyuck smiles, starting to walk farther into the market, you hurrying to keep up with him. “I didn’t know you knew how to bake, you told me you could only make instant noodles.”

“I don’t,” you sigh. “My mom bakes though and I’ve helped her a lot through the years.”

“Well, it appears you know how to do it on your own now,” Donghyuck sighs. “I mean, Jaemin was giving you personal lessons and you seemed to really enjoy the one on one attention.”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” you say, lightly hitting his arm with the bouquet of flowers you were holding. “He was just being a good friend.”

“Oh…” Donghyuck smirks, looking down at the flowers. “And do friends buy other friends flowers?”

“I think it all depends on the intentions behind the flowers,” you smirk back. “And besides, it’s not as though I’m dating anyone right now so it doesn’t matter who buys me flowers, does it?”

You look at him, intently for a few seconds longer before turning and taking the lead, walking to a stand to purchase what you originally came to the market to obtain.

 - . -

You walk inside of Jaemin’s with Donghyuck following behind. Jaemin is removing the trays of tarts out of the oven. He glances up to his friend, glaring instantly. “What the hell man,” he grunts, “My tarts weren’t burning at all.”

“Really?” Donghyuck gasps, “I must’ve misunderstood.”

“DONGHYUCK,” Soojin snaps, turning around to face him. “You owe me an apology…you lied. You said you had to take a shit.”

“I did,” Donghyuck announces. “I went to the market to take a shit. I don’t like these fancy toilets that Jaemin has here.”

“You’re ridiculous,” Soojin grunts. “Sometimes you can be way too picky.”

“When you guys are done bickering,” Jisung interrupts. “Load everything into the cars before it starts to rain.”

“Ok,” everyone grunts in unison.

You go over to the table with the tarts on, smiling at the finished product. “These ones are for the offering,” Jaemin explains, “and these are the ones for us to eat. I have to make room in my car, would you be able to pack the rest of these up?”

“Sure,” you smile, as Jaemin walks away.

You put all the tarts in their designated containers, placing a special one in its own box.

 - . -

You go along with Donghyuck and his friends to take the offerings that you all made to the shrine. You imitate the actions of the older students and try to appear like you know what you are doing. After the appropriate amount of thank yous were made, everyone gather around Jaemin’s car to eat the extra tarts that he made for everyone to celebrate.

“Hyuck, don’t you want a tart?” Jisung asks, looking at his friend who is the only one not eating a delicious treat.

“There’s none left,” Donghyuck sighs, disappointed.

“That’s impossible,” Jaemin snaps. “I made sure that I had enough for everyone to have one each.”

“That’s why,” Soojin gasps, pointing at Mark who is holding two tarts, one in each hand.

“What?” Mark asks.

“You took two tarts,” Jaemin announces.

“Yea?” Mark sighs. “I’m hungry.”

“Jaem made one for each of us, you fat ass,” Chenle laughs.

“I didn’t know,” Marks snaps, continuing to eat the treats he is holding.

Jaemin exhales slowly, turning to look at Donghyuck, “here, do you want mine?” he asks.

“No, I’m good,” he sighs, “I’m just gonna head home.”

You don’t want him to leave but you know you can’t ask him to stay, especially in front of everyone. You watch as he walks off. After you are certain that nobody is paying attention to you, you run off, hoping to catch up to him.

You finally find Donghyuck. He is standing by a tree, deep in thought. He looks like he’s having an internal argument with himself trying to decide his next actions. You look around to see what has him distraught. And that’s when you see Yeji, sitting alone on a nearby bench facing away from donghyuck, clearly unaware of his presence.

An aray of emotions rushes through your body. Anger, sadness, and jealousy are the most prominent ones though. You have the urge to run over and grab him to prevent him from joining Yeji on the bench but you stop yourself. You know that you have to let him make that choice for himself. You hang back and observe as he continues to struggle with his inner voices. Donghyuck eventually turns and continues to walk on, not saying anything to her, which instantly erases most of the negative feelings that you were experiencing.

You run back to the group to help clean up and grab your belongings. As you are placing some empty boxes into the trunk of Jaemin’s car, he walks up behind you.

“Hey Y/N,” he says in a low, almost seductive voice. “I’m still waiting on your answer.”

You turn, shocked by his words.

“I can feel it, everytime we’re close,” he continues. “You always back away from me, Y/N. Is it because you like someone else?”

You look away from him, considering what to say. Finally, you say, “yes.”

Jaemin looks away, disappointed but suddenly asks, “Who? Can you tell me who it is?”

 - . -

Donghyuck stands on a round dock that goes out over onto the lake. He leans on the railing, thinking about his life and how messed up everything has been the last couple of months.

You walk up behind him without saying anything, leaning over the railing next to him. He does an double take, surprised you followed him.

“What the hell, Hyuck,” you laugh. “Why are you surprised?”

“Well didn’t you…” he starts. “Didn’t you go with Jaemin?”

“Why would I go with him?” you ask.

“Anyone would want to go with Jaemin,” Donghyuck sighs, looking down at the glistening water. “You’d get to ride in brand new car, ride in the air conditioning, riding with a kind driver, and he’s also really caring and compassionate…he’s definitely your type.”

“I was just saying random things,” you smirk. “You know, to mess with you.”

“Oh…” Donghyuck says, raising an eyebrow to look at you. “So then what is your type?”

You turn, facing your body towards him before speaking. “I like someone who…well I think I’m just gonna leave it to you to figure it out.”

“What the fuck,” he grunts. “Just tell me.”

“If you don’t shut up,” you snap, pointing a finger at him. “I won’t give it to you.”

“Give me what?” he asks.

You reach inside of the backpack that is thrown over your shoulder, pulling out a box wrapped inside of colored paper. You watch as he removes the paper, smiling instantly when he sees the contents inside.

“Heeyyyy,” Donghyuck gasps, looking at you with a giant smile on his face. “You saved me one.”

“I made this one myself,” you sigh. “I didn’t want to risk poisoning someone else. Ya know, in case it isn’t edible.”

He looks at the tart then back at you. “It looks delicious,” he smiles. He sits the box onto the railing and pulls his phone out of his pocket.

“What are you doing?” you ask.

Donghyuck doesn’t respond. He happily types on his phone then proudly hands you it, showing you what he did. You look at the picture of the lemon tart that you gave him that he posted on his instagram page with the comment “I got some sweets from my sweets”.

Your heart flutters as soon as you realize what he has done. But you have to play it off a little. You raise an eyebrow and look at him. “Posting something like is a little bold, don't ya think? I mean it might give people the wrong idea.”

“It’s perfect,” he says. “Now nobody will get me.”

You don’t respond, mainly because you are happy but it’s still not enough of a commitment for you.

“Isn’t that good?” he asks.

You look at him, “just shut up and eat,” you order.

He does as you say and happily takes a bite out of the tart. “Mmmmm, this is really good,” he smiles. “It’s so good, I have a surprise for you.”

You watch as he reaches in his bag, pulling out a single rose in plastic. “Here this is for you.” A smile grows on your face instantaneously as you take the rose from him and happily smell it. “I know it’s not as nice as the ones that Jaemin got you but I promise, my intentions are good….Do you like it?”

“The flower?” you ask.

“I mean…do you like me?” he whispers.

You look up from the flower, the smile dropping from your face, surprised by his sudden question. You stare into his eyes, instinctively inching closer until your lips are firmly pressed against his. He leans in, wrapping his arms around you and deepening the kiss.

He pulls away, “I’ll take that as a yes,” he whispers before kissing you again.

Jacob stood in front of a full length mirror admiring how he looks in his suit.

He smiled at his own reflection, “how could anyone not appreciate this?” he laughed, fixing his hair once more before heading down to the boys’ dorm lobby.

He walked down the stairs, seeing Kevin, Chanhee, and Hyunjae sitting on the sofas.

“Why aren’t you guys getting ready yet?” Jacob asked.

Hyunjae glanced at his watch, “maybe because the dance doesn’t start for at least another hour.”

“Yea I don’t know why you’re dressed already,” Kevin said. “But you do look quite yummy in that suit, if I may say so myself.”

“You can’t say shit like that,” Hyunjae sighed.

“Why not?” Kevin asked. “Jacob likes hearing it, don’t you?”

“I don’t need to hear it,” Jacob smirked. “I know how sexy I am. You’re all coming tonight, right?”

Chanhee let out a long exacerbated sigh without saying anything, looking out of the window.

“What’s wrong with him?” Jacob asked.

“He doesn’t like when you know who is here,” Hyunjae explained.

“Who?” Jacob wondered with a smirk on his face.

“Hyun…” Kevin started.

“Please don’t say his name,” Chanhee whispered.

“You can’t let him continue to bother you,” Hyunjae emphasized. “It’s time you move on.”

“That’s a little easier said than done,” Chanhee argued.

“If you don’t go, Hyein will be very disappointed,” Kevin announced.

“That’s her own fault, I didn’t say yes to her when she asked me,” Chanhee said.

“Yea but you didn’t say no either,” Kevin argued. “She’s really looking forward to spending some quality time with you.”

“If you don’t go, Hyunjun can just keep her company in your absence,” Jacob smirked.

“Hasn’t he taken enough from me?” Chanhee hissed.

“If you ask me,” Haknyeon interjected, walking into the lobby and plopping down on the sofa next to Chanhee. “He did you a favor.”

“What he did to me, was no favor. I’m disgusting and ruined for eternity,” Chanhee argued as tears started to well up in his eyes.

“Aww Chanhee…don’t cry,” Kevin said, sympathetically

“It just sucks,” Chanhee pouted. “I didn’t want any of this.”

“Stop being a bitch,” Haknyeon growled.

“I’m not being a…” Chanhee said. “...a ‘B’ word.”

“Oh my fucking god,” Jacob laughed.

“Please watch your language,” Chanhee said, glaring at Jacob. “You know I don’t like cursing.”

“That’s too damn bad,” Jacob smiled.

“I still don’t understand why he chose you,” Haknyeon groaned, rolling his eyes. “Any of the others would have been better.”

“Because he’s a big…a big…a big jerk,” Chanhee sighed.

“Who’s a big jerk?” Hyunjun asked, walking inside the dorm building with Changmin. “That’s some really strong language for you.”

“We ran into your parents, Chanhee,” Changmin smiled.

Chanhee looked at Changmin with wide eyes, “they’re here?” he asked.

“I offered to bring them back to see you but they said Yeonjun is the only son they have now,” Hyunjun smirked.

“I was going to kill them,” Changmin laughed. “Your mother looked so delicious.”

“You didn’t hurt them, did you?” Chanhee asked.

“Why does it matter to you?” Hyunjun smirked. “They disowned you since I turned you.”

“They should die,” Changmin added with a huge smile on his face.

“I don’t want them to die,” Chanhee stated.

Hyunjun shrugged, “I don’t know what to say.”

“You’re an awful person,” Chanhee grunted, standing up and walking towards the stairs.

“Hey before you go,” Hyunjun said, “Are you still coming to the ball?”

Chanhee didn’t respond, he continued walking to the stairs so he could get away from Hyunjun and his games.

“I’ll take that as a no,” Hyunjun smirked. “I’ll have my dear brother take good care of your little girlfriend, Hyein, for you. I’d do it myself but I have bigger fish to fry.”

Chanhee stopped walking, slowly turning around to make eye contact with Hyunjun. “I’m going to the dance so there is no need to worry about her,” Chanhee stated, coldly, before turning back around and walking up the stairs.

“Why do you always mess with him?” Hyunjae asked.

“He needs to turn his switch off,” Hyunjun stated. “I can see something inside that little boy and I want it to come out and play.”

“Alright,” Jacob sighed, looking at his watch. “It’s been fun but I gotta head out.”

“I’ll see you soon,” Hyunjun smirked, winking at Jacob.

Jacob nodded in response before heading out of the lobby.

“What was that about?” Haknyeon asked Hyunjun.

“Yea Hyunjun,” Sangyeon asked, walking into the lobby from outside. “Please inform me of what you have going on.”

“Nothing you need to worry your pretty little head over,” Hyunjun smiled, innocently. “I just have a little crush on someone and I’m planning on winning her over with my natural charm and charisma.”

“Is it me?” Kevin asked with wide eyes.

“Is what you?” Hyunjun asked.

“Is it me that you’re planning on winning over?” Kevin elaborated.

“Why the fuck would it be you?” Hyunjun snarled.

“Wishful thinking I guess,” Kevin sighed looking down at his feet.

“I don’t want any drama tonight,” Sangyeon snarled. “This is going to be a nice, relaxing event. Do you understand me?”

Hyunjun walked over to Sangyeon with a crooked smile on his face, he adjusted the boy’s shirt before speaking.

“You don’t have to worry about me,” Hyunjun stated. “But let’s remember something, you are no longer my leader and I will do whatever the fuck I want.”

“That may be true,” Sangyeon said. “But I’m still in charge of Changmin. You wouldn’t want him to suffer the consequences of your actions, would you?”

Hyunjun glanced back at Changmin who was still smiling like a fool.

“Like I said, I’m not planning anything dangerous, Mr. Lee, I promise,” Hyunjun smiled, turning to walk towards the stairs. “Come on Changmin, let’s go find Eric and get ready.”

Changmin followed his brother up the stairs without any hesitation.

Jacob walked towards the girls’ dorm building to pick up his date for the ball. A weird feeling of excitement brewed in his stomach which he tried to ignore.

“Yo Jacob,” Yeonjun called out, running to catch up to him.

Jacob exhaled slowly before stopping to wait for Yeonjun.

“What?” Jacob asked.

“Are you going to the dance?” Yeonjun wondered.

Jacob smirked, “why? Do you want me to save you a dance?”

“Fuck you man,” Yeonjun snapped.

“Or is it because you want to steal a dance with my date?” Jacob continued smirking.

“Who’s your date?” Yeonjun asked, already pretty sure he knew the answer.

“Y/N,” Jacob stated.

“I didn’t know you two were that close,” Yeonjun sighed, looking down at the ground.

“You didn’t know that?” Jacob asked. “She’s pretty much in love with me.”

“Shut the fuck up,” Yeonjun snarled.

“Ok I don’t know if she’s in love with me yet, but she’s definitely falling for me, and hard,” Jacob explained.

“Do all you vampires always have to lie?” Yeonjun grunted.

“Dude, I’m not lying,” Jacob said. “She asked me to the dance today at the carnival and then asked me to walk her to her room so she could get ready.”

“And?” Yeonjun asked.

“And then she all but begged me to come into her room so we could get better acquainted,” Jacob said, winking at Yeonjun. “If you know what I mean.”

“This sounds like total bullshit,” Yeonjun stated.

“If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t go inside,” Jacob sighed. “I felt it was a little too soon for that.”

“Now I know you’re full of shit because there’s no way you would turn down any chick coming on to you,” Yeonjun laughed.

“I’m serious, I said no,” Jacob insisted. “I figured she would definitely fall in love after she met little Jacob. I’d make her feel better than anyone else ever did in her life and I’m not trying to have her all obsessed with me…yet.”

“Leave her the fuck alone,” Yeonjun ordered, clenching his fist.

“And why’s that?” Jacob asked.

“Because she doesn’t deserve to be toyed with like this,” Yeonjun snapped.

“I’m not toying with her,” Jacob denied. “Maybe I actually like her. Maybe I want to be with her forever. Maybe I plan on spending all of eternity with her…”

“Get that shit out of your fucking head,” Yeonjun snarled.

“I don’t know, maybe not,” Jacob chuckled a little. “But I’ll tell you this, once she’s a vampire she won’t want anything to do with you anymore. Sorry about your luck.”

“You can’t turn her,” Yeonjun stated.

“I never said I was going to turn her,” Jacob smirked.

“If not you, then who?” Yeonjun asked.

“Just sit back and enjoy the show,” Jacob smirked, walking away. “I know I will.”

Y/N slowly opened her eyes, still paralyzed by whatever was injected into her neck. She was startled by a man who was kneeled down in front of her only inches to her face. She wanted to pull away but still wasn’t able to move anything but her eyes.

“Boo!” a man laughed, moving back an inch or two.

The man had something on his face, resembling a mask but it looked like skin. Once he stepped back, Y/N was able to see WinWin busily brushing the blonde “doll”’s hair, happily humming in his own little world.

“Do you know who I am?” the man yelled.

Y/N wasn’t able to respond so she continued to watch the nightmare unfold.

“I’m Youngjae,” the man snapped. “Don’t you recognize me?”

Y/N thought she knew a Youngjae. Well, the name sounded familiar but she couldn’t place from where.

“He was one of your boyfriends from Se7en,” the man smiled. “I wanted to make you more comfortable…so I TOOK HIS FACE!” he broke out into a laughter that was so sinister it would have made the most hardened criminal shiver.

“That was really nice of you to do, Hendery,” WinWin interjected, continuing to brush the girl’s hair.

“That’s because I’m a nice human being,” Hendery laughed. “I want to see what she looks like with his face.”

Hendery took the skin of Youngjae off of his face and pushed it onto Y/N’s. The smell was horrific, it smelled like rotting flesh. She could feel the slimy surface on her skin. She wanted to scream, she wanted to cry, she wanted to run away and hide but could only sit still and endure the torture.

“What the fuck is wrong with you,” WinWin snapped. “You’re messing up her beautiful makeup.”

“I think she looks better like this,” Hendery announced. “Maybe I should put your face on her instead.” His smile dropped from his face and he glared at WinWin, sending daggers in his direction.

“Take your fucking mask and leave my doll house,” WinWin screamed, throwing his brush against the wall.

“Fine,” Hendery snapped, taking the skin off of her face. He slowly bent down and kissed Y/N’s forehead, “we’ll play more later and next time I’ll have a better surprise for you. I promise.”

Hendery turned and stormed to the door, knocking three times before opening and quietly leaving the room.

“He’s really an odd one,” WinWin huffed, making eye contact with Y/N. “I’m sorry about your lips, lovey.”

“Sorry about my lips?” Y/N thought, “what happened to my lips?”

She was left in a silent, disabled panic not knowing what happened to her or even worse what was going to happen to her.

“Once Hendery gets an idea in his head, there’s really nothing you can do to stop it,” WinWin continued, now braiding the blonde girl’s hair. “He wanted to take your skin off to try it on. I was able to stop that from happening but he did sew your lips shut. I think I’ll leave it like that for now. You now look like a haunted doll…I think that’s going to be my new favorite kind though.”

Y/N blinked frantically, looking around with her eyes, praying that someone anybody would come and save her. At this point she’d even settle for Kun. She didn’t know how much more her mental state or body would be able to endure.

“What’s wrong with you?” WinWin asked. “You seem upset.”

He seemed to be completely oblivious of what was making her upset, almost as though he wasn’t able to comprehend that this situation wouldn’t be fun for anyone.

“Is it because I’m playing with Guinevere and Celestine and not you?” WinWin cocked his head while looking at the girl.

She looked at the giant dolls and was able to see that they were blinking too.

“They’re alive?” Y/N thought. “They’re trapped here just like me.”

WinWin scurried over to Y/N to lightly pat her head, “There’s no need for jealousy in the house of love.”

He moved back to the other girls, grabbing the blonde girl’s head, “they mean nothing to me…you’re my favorite.” WinWin smiled as he snapped the blonde girl's neck, allowing her body to thud onto the floor. He grabbed the brunette and did the same to her. “Is that better?” WinWin asked. “Now it’s just the two of us, you shall have all of my attention, Arabelle.”

The morning came, with no word from Seonghwa on what they were going to do. San left the mansion with Mingi to pick up Jongho from the hospital and bring him home while everyone else did their own thing, patiently waiting on the three to get home from the hospital.

Jongho followed the other two men inside, unsure where he was.

“Does any of this look familiar?” Mingi asked.

“Not really,” Jongho responded. “The outside was more impressive than in here.”

“He’s not that smart anymore,” Mingi laughed.

San smacked the back of Mingi’s head with his hand, “knock it off, dumbass. We went over this. He’s not dumb he just has amnesia.”

“I’ve been to amnesia. How do you have a whole fucking country and how does it make you so dumb,” Mingi complained.

“I don’t know how you are so good at your job,” San rolled his eyes.

“Thank you,” Mingi smiled. “You never said that before.”

Seonghwa slowly walked down the stairs, smiling at the sight of the brother he missed so much.

“Welcome home, Jongho,” Seonghwa continued to smile.

“I don’t know if I’d say this is home,” Jongho argued. “But I guess it’s better than that fucking hospital.”

“Mingi, show Jongho around,” Seonghwa ordered.

“Show him around where?” Mingi asked, confused.

“Nevermind,” Seonghwa growled.

“Come on,” San interrupted, placing his hand on Jongho’s shoulder, “I’ll show you around.”

“You are such a fucking dumbass, Mingi,” Seonghwa growled, walking in the direction of the kitchen.

The doorbell rang, alerting everyone in the house that someone was at the front door. Wooyoung ran down the steps, with his gun in his hand, swinging the door open to see Minghao standing on the opposite side.

Minghao looked at Wooyoung’s gun and said, “this isn’t the welcome that I was expecting.”

“Oh it’s just you,” Wooyoung sighed, disappointed, placing his pistol into the waist of his pants.

Minghao smirked, “I’ve always found a man wielding a firearm to be undeniably desirable.”

“Whatever,” Wooyoung said, walking back up the stairs leaving Minghao standing alone in the doorway.

He walked inside the mansion, closing the door behind him. He walked up the stairs in the direction of Seonghwa’s office when he bumped into San and Jongho who were exiting Jongho’s bedroom.

“Minghao?” San exclaimed. “What are you doing here?”

“I need to talk to Seonghwa,” Minghao explained.

“How did you get inside?” San wondered.

“Wooyoung opened the door, then left me standing there,” Minghao said, “so I assumed Seonghwa would be in his office.”

“I think he’s somewhere downstairs,” San said.

“Ok thank you,” Minghao smiled, turning around and heading back to the steps.

“Damn,” Jongho expressed, “she’s one sexy bitch.”

San turned his head so fast to look at Jongho, he nearly broke his neck.

“What did you say?” San wondered in shock.

“She’s a sexy bitch,” Jongho repeated. “Just look at her walk. Mm I’m gonna make her scream my name.”

San laughed, “that she is actually a he.”

“Fuck you,” Jongho snapped. “You’re not gonna get me to believe that just because you want her.”

“I’m serious, Minghao is a man,” San smiled, entertained by the situation.

“There is no way, THAT was a man,” Jongho stated. “Are you all a bunch of liars?”

“Ok whatever, man. If you don’t believe me, find out for yourself. I’m sure Hao will be down for whatever you want,” San smirked, walking away.

Minghao walked down the stairs and into the kitchen where Seonghwa was leaning against the counter drinking a cup of coffee.

“Sexy Seonghwa,” Minghao said, “Looking a little rough today. But you’re still sexy though.”

“Minghao,” Seonghwa exclaimed. “What brings you here?”

“We need to talk,” Minghao sighed. “I hear Y/N is missing.”

“How did you hear that?” Seonghwa asked.

“Well that’s what we need to talk about,” Minghao sighed. “Do you remember my friend, Ten?”

“The tattoo artist?” Seonghwa asked.

“Yea that’s the one,” Minghao nodded. “He called me.”

“How does he know,” Seonghwa snapped, starting to become enraged.

“Apparently, he had a bunch of friends who were in an asylum with Y/N. When they found out that Se7en kidnapped her they decided to do their own thing and take her for themselves,” Minghao explained. “They were planning on selling her to the highest bidder but Ten said things are getting too out of hand and she needs to be saved before it’s too late.”

“Do you know where they have her?” Seonghwa asked.

“Yes,” Minghao nodded. “Ten sent me the address.”

“I’m going to get her,” Seonghwa announced, running out of the room.

“I figured I could offer my assistance as well,” Taeyong smirked looking around.

“I understand,” Jaehyun sighed, reaching for the bags that his assistants were carrying. He removed the equipment necessary to begin treating Y/N.

Taeyong walked over to stand beside Yunho who was happily still petting Kun’s decapitated head. “What do you got there?”Taeyong asked with a huge smile on his face.

“This is my new friend,” Yunho explained, lifting the head up so Taeyong could get a better look at it.

“I see,” Taeyong nodded. “Does it have a name?”

Yunho laughed, “his name is Kun.”

“Kun, huh?” Taeyong repeated. “That’s an interesting name. Did you choose that?”

“Yea I guess,” Yunho said, raising an eyebrow. “Why do you care so much about Kun?”

“I have a collection of heads too,” Taeyong smiled. “I never met anyone else who had the same kind of friends.”

Yunho’s eyes got wide, “you’re allowed to keep more than one friend?”

“Oh yea,” Taeyong nodded. “I’m allowed to have as many friends as I want.”

“You’re so lucky,” Yunho pouted.

“Hey I have an idea,” Taeyong announced, “why don’t you come over to my house sometime so you can meet all of my friends.”

Yunho sat straight up in his chair and said with a serious look on his face, “I’d like that.”

“Me too," Taeyong smiled. "You'll have to bring Kun with you so our friends can be properly introduced."

“What the fuck is wrong with you two?” San grunted with a look of disgust on his face.

Yunho leaned back in his chair, continuing to pet Kun's head with a mean scowl on his face. He had the urge to speak up and yell at San for the unnecessary harsh words but he knew that Y/N took priority at this moment and he didn't want to take anything away from her.

Dr. Jaehyun ignored the chaos developing in the room around him and his patient and he continued to focus on Y/N, secretly praying for her to regain mobility and full stability.

“Seonghwa,” Y/N whispered.

“Did she just talk?” Wooyoung gasped.

Jaehyun turned to look at San, “She seems to be slowly regaining her mobility and speech back. Now it’s just going to be a waiting game. I also injected her with antibiotics to treat the infection from her injuries.”

Wooyoung gently grabbed Y/N’s hand, bending down beside her. “You’re finally home, baby. You’re safe now.”

“Where’s Seonghwa?” Y/N asked, confused.

“Don’t worry about him right now,” San interrupted.

“I need to see Seonghwa,” she argued.

“Baby, I’m here with you,” Wooyoung sighed, squeezing her hand lightly.

“I need Seonghwa,” Y/N demanded, "and I don't think he'll like you calling me 'baby'. He's rather possessive."

“What are you talking about?” Wooyoung asked.

San gently placed his hand on Wooyoung’s back in an attempt to lend a little comfort to his friend. “She seems a little confused,” he whispered.

“I’m not confused,” Y/N demanded as she pulled her hand away from Wooyoung, staring at him coldly while attempting to sit up. "At least, I don't think I am."

“No,” Jaehyun ordered, “you need to stay laying down for now.”

“But, I need to get up,” Y/N argued.

"No, what you need to do is listen to the doctor," San growled.

"I can't," Y/N stated, stubbornly. "I need to get up and go to Seonghwa...he's probably worried sick about me."

“Ok ok, you can get up,” Jaehyun nodded. “But first, I'm going to need you to answer some questions?”

“If I do, you'll let me get up, right?” she asked.

“That will depend entirely on you,” Jaehyun said. “Do you know who you are?”

“I’m Lee Y/N.”

Jaehyun looked at San for confirmation of the answer who nodded in return.

“Do you know where you are?” Jaehyun asked.

“Um…” Y/N hesitated. “I’m at the hospital?”

“No this isn’t a hospital,” Jaehyun corrected. “This is where you live.”

“No, that doesn't seem right,” Y/N argued. “I live with my family, where is my sister?”

“Your sister?” Wooyoung asked, confused.

“Sunmi. Where’s Sunmi?” Y/N wondered.

“I think she’s a little confused,” San sighed.

“I’m not confused,” Y/N demanded. “Where’s Sunmi? Why isn’t she here? She'd fly to the moon to be with me if I was injured, so where the hell is she?”

Jaehyun looked to San for assistance to calm her down when Taeyong walked over, sitting down on the floor aside of where Y/N was laying.

“Oh honey, your sister wanted to be here but she had some urgent business to attend to,” Taeyong smiled, comfortingly. “She ordered us to take care of you and see to your recovery.”

“You’re friends with her right?” Y/n asked.

“Of course,” Taeyong nodded. “Don’t you remember me?”

Y/N stared for a moment before nodding, “Yeah I think I do remember you. You dated her years ago, right?”

Taeyong smiled, "Oh yeah, that was such a long time ago but I'm impressed that you remembered."

"I tried to convince them," Y/N motioned with her hands to the others in the room, watching on in silence. "But they insist I'm fucking confused."

“Well between you and I,” Taeyong leaned in to whisper, “I think they're the ones who are confused."

Y/N laughed, nodding her head while looking at the others still clearly agitated by their lack of understanding.

"How bout you just humor them a little and answer their questions then I'll help you find Seonghwa," Taeyong suggested.

“I need to see Seonghwa,” Y/N insisted.

“I understand that,” Taeyong nodded. “But why is it so urgent?”

"I need to thank him," Y/N smiled.

"Thank him?" Taeyong repeated, with curiosity laced in his voice.

“My sister made a deal with another gang and I was sent away to marry a prominent member of their gang but Seonghwa rescued me,” Y/N explained. “He’s my hero.”

“What the fuck,” Wooyoung growled as a tear escaped from the confines of his eyes, slowly streaming down his cheek. “I wanted to be your hero.”

San instantly turned and grabbed Wooyoung’s arm, preventing him from moving. He leaned in and whispered, “look, Y/N has been through a lot of trauma and she’s clearly extremely confused and doesn’t really know what she is saying.” He rubbed his friend’s back trying to lend some comfort. “Why don’t you go to your room and get some rest for now, her memory will come back soon, I promise.”

Wooyoung let out a long exaggerated sigh before standing up, he forced a smile at Y/N, “hurry up and get better,” he whispered before sulking up the stairs.

“So your sister sent you away to get married?” Taeyong asked.

“That’s right,” Y/N nodded. “She finally found a way to get rid of me so I couldn’t take over.”

“Do you remember to whom?” Taeyong gently asked.

“I think his name was YingYang,” Y/N said. “Everything was ready too. There was a pastor and flowers. We were in a beautiful church and I had the most elegant dress on as well.”

“It sounds lovely,” Taeyong said. “So why didn’t the wedding happen?”

“The pastor refused to marry us,” Y/N responded.

“That’s odd, why would he refuse to marry you and YingYang,” Taeyong wondered.

“He was a mean man. He said I wasn’t good enough for him and I had to prove my worth. But I didn’t have time to do that, instead I was sent to a little counseling retreat where I met some new friends and we had many tea parties discussing current events,” Y/N continued explaining.

“This sounds like some wild delusions,” San muttered.

Y/N glared at San, “this is not ‘wild delusions’! This is all fucking true!”

“Hey, hey hey, Y/N,” Taeyong said in a comforting tone as he grabbed her hand. “I know everything you’re saying is the truth, I believe you.”

“You do?” Y/N looked at Taeyong with wide eyes.

“Of course I do,” he nodded. “Now please continue.”

“Ok,” she said, taking a deep breath before continuing. “While I was at the tea party retreat someone came and kidnapped me and they put me into a cage. The cage kept electrocuting me and I almost died. That’s when Seonghwa showed up and pulled me out of the cage and I was brought here.”

“This sounds like such a horrific experience,” Taeyong frowned.

“It was just so confusing because I never knew what was going on. I was so always so scared and I’m so grateful that he saved me.” Y/N said. “Now I need to see Seonghwa so we can figure out our plans. I can’t go back. I just can’t.”

“You’re safe now,” San interrupted. “You will never go back. I promise.”

Y/N started to shake as she broke down into tears, the realization of the trauma finally hitting her.

Jaehyun walked over to where Y/N was laying with a full syringe in his hand.  “I’m going to give you a little sedative to help you rest until Seonghwa gets home,” he announced.

Y/N started panicking, struggling to sit up to get away from the doctor with the shot.

“He’s not going to hurt you,” Taeyong announced.

“Please help me,” Y/N begged, squeezing his hand.

“You need to get your rest so you can get better for when Seonghwa gets home,” Taeyong suggested. “I wouldn’t let him give you anything that would hurt you. I promise.”

“Ok,” Y/N sighed. “Will you stay with me?”

“Of course I will,” Taeyong smiled. “Just look at me.”

Jaehyun injected the serum into her leg while Y/N was staring at Taeyong. As the medicine slowly entered Y/N’s body, she slowly grew more tired. Her eyes gradually became too heavy to keep open and she fell victim to a deep slumber.

“Wow,” San shook his head. “They really did a number on her.”

“Don’t worry, her memory should come back completely,” Jaehyun explained. “She just appears to be in shock at the moment.” Jaehyun started packing his equipment up, placing everything back into the bags and boxes that his assistants delivered.

“Are you leaving?” Yunho wondered.

“I have other clients that I need to visit,” Jaehyun stated.

“But who…” Yunho started.

“Don’t worry,” Taeyong interrupted, “I will be back…soon.”
