Inktober 2017 : Day 1 - brush inking It’s finally here, my favourite art challenge of the year! In the spirit of self-improvement I’ve started with brush inking, which is a weak point of mine. I realised in hindsight that those flames Nat is making would stand out better in coloured ink, but this is how we learn.

Inktober 2017 : Day 13 - ink and water
If only it really were just sleep paralysis.

Inktober 2017 : Day 19 - cartridge pen I draw Lena in fancy shiro-lolita outfits a lot because she looks cute, but in reality she and Lucas don’t have a lot of money and this old, eyelet-lace dress is the only party frock she owns. Look closely and you can see the areas where I learned the hard way that the train station roof is not perfectly waterproof.

Here are some process photos for the portrait of Pocket Witch Gravity I posted a while ago. Whenever I post process photos it makes me realise how conventional my process is! I think literally the only thing that’s different to any of my friends is that I finish the line inking after the spot black, rather than before. Look out for some close-up photos of the comic as well!

Inktober 2017 : Day 9.5 - brush pen and coloured ink
I always try to draw my own characters for Inktober, so this is a little extra one. I convinced a co-worker to walk home with me along the canal path and we saw a heron, so she asked for a picture with a heron and some Autumn colours. Here it is! Incidentally I have no idea what that plant is. The berries almost looked like rosehips, but it certainly wasn’t a rose. If anyone can identify it I’d be very interested.

Inktober 2017 : Day 16 - gel pens
Wipe that glamour off your face Trispin, Ely isn’t impressed. I have a super-fine gel pen (0.25) that I rarely use, so I tried it for the cross-hatching on this. I like it but it’s just so scratchy! I had to pull paper fluff out of the nib several times.
