This is an Autism spectrum Pride Flag. I’ll keep it simple - I’m high functioning autistic. Acknowledging and learning about it has given me a lot of comfort, so I looked for a symbol that would represent it and connect me to others on the spectrum. I couldn’t find one that satisfied me, so I created my own! Symbolism: Purple is community; Blue is serenity and self-acceptance; White is potential; The white shape is not quite a square, not quite a circle - like us, it doesn’t entirely fit the neurotypical standards, but is just as valid. The flag is symmetrical, so no matter which way you fly it, it will be the right way. Use and share it if you feel it represents you, or you know somene who might feel like that!  This is my gift to the community. Remember, each one of you is wonderful and unique; and you’re never alone💜

i’m going to say something that might make me seem ungrateful, but i think it’s true of many fic writers:

we want you to leave comments ON ao3.

we’re not angry or disappointed or anything like that when you leave qrts or lots of tags on our fic posts, not at all. we don’t NOT want you to message us to tell us how a fic touched you. but in addition to that, please consider just copying those words and posting them on ao3 as a comment.

why?

the reason is simple: leaving commentary in other places is ephemeral. story posts get pushed down. chats get pushed down in the list of chats, or worse, pushed up in lists of messages as the conversation continues. but comments on ao3 are easily accessible. and this is important because writers read and reread these comments regularly.

writing, especially writing longfics, is exhausting and drains your confidence over time. having a collection of people who enjoyed your past work at your fingertips is an excellent way to build yourself up when you’re feeling down. fic writers need this a lot.

i know over the past few years there’s this trend to be very descriptive with what is an “acceptable” comment. that’s all nonsense, as long as you’re not being an asshole, just say what’s on your heart.

but post it on ao3. please.

Was wishing there was a positivity post for original fiction writers since I see so many about how fanfic writers are doing so much for their communities even when they're not actively writing, and then I thought:

Be the change you want to see in the world.

So this is a positivity post for the writers out here who are working very hard on stories with no established community. Who can't talk about their blorbos and plot lines and brainstorming to anyone and expect them to know what any of it means. Who don't have much to share publicly, but are hoping they will one day.

You're doing a lot of hard work, and I recognize and appreciate what you're putting into the world, even when you're resting.
