If he actually went through with this, he would have to leave everything he knew behind. Abandon his old life, including Arthur. The boy a year below him at school who, for all of his vicious temper and habit of pushing people away, needed someone to look after him.

There had been a spot of earth by the pumpkin field that seemed off, Alfred was sure of it. Most of the other nations celebrating Halloween with him had been too busy partying to take his feeling of unease into consideration, except for Gilbert and he agreed to accompany Alfie when he went to check in on this anomaly.

As he began to dig between the pumpkins, the man who had once trained him and helped him during his struggle for independence stood by his side.

When his shovel had hit something hard, only a rather large stone as it turned out, he has screamed louder than he wanted to admit and the sound of “kesesesese..” had lasted longer than he wanted to remember.

He never did find out the reason the earth had been disturbed.

Gilbert ran his fingers through Lutz’s hair. Hearing the sound of his baby brother’s soft breathing during sleep and being able to feel him, were the only sensations left to ensure Ludwig was unharmed and besides him.

While it might scare his younger brother to wake up in complete darkness, he still felt happy the young blond had not been awake to see the last light in their shelter flicker and then disappear.

He had only meant to give his dear Lily a present she would love.

How could he have known the beautiful, but lifelike doll would scare Liesl so much that she was no longer comfortable in her own room and preferred to sleep in her brother’s bedroom.

The doll would be gone tomorrow, before she was even awake, and replaced with a gift that would make his little sister happy instead of frightened.
