Spring Sorrows

Pairing: Mark Lee x Reader

A/N: I don’t even write sentimental stuff like this fjhkdghjkhaf. But this is what happens when I listen to sad gurl music. I am such a hopeless romantic but I rarely write the sappy kind of stories one would expect of me lol. But umm yeahhhh. Mark. And I wrote this in y/n format too so it’s a little special because I mainly write original characters. But enough from me! “I often think about how life would be if me and you worked out.” Mark was lying by your side, in the grass on a warm spring day. His face stayed glued to the clouds as he spoke of his most pleasant daydreams. The silver rims of his glasses gleamed as he adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose.

“We’d probably have about five kids by now because I can only imagine how much I’d fall in love with the children that a person as beautiful as you would produce.” He stopped to chuckle and brushed his nose. His side smile remained plastered on his face, even when he spoke again.

“I think about how you and I would’ve made the perfect team. The perfect mix of romance and friendship. We’d trust each other enough to take on whatever life threw at us.” Mark closed his eyes, as you watched him try to regather his thoughts.

“I want you to know that you are the one that got away. Not a day goes by where you don’t freely prance inside my head. I’m afraid to lose you when I don’t even have you.”

He started to mindlessly play with the bracelet on his wrist as he continued. The rubber cheetah swinging back and forth. “I remember when I wrote that letter in the summer of 2019. God, that’s when I knew. Three entire pages of me expressing how much I missed you and how I was convinced God made you with me in mind.”

“Mark.” You said as you noticed his voice started to slightly break.

“Don’t worry. I won’t give you the waterworks. I still have my pride, you know.” Mark said with a small laugh. “But I don’t think that should get in the way of me being honest with the person I love the most.”

He then went silent and you heard him exhale. The air around the two of you growing more dense by the second.

“Thank you for accepting to see me. I felt like a madman, you see. And honestly, I still do. I am still holding on to hope that one day we could pick up where we left off. But in the back of my mind, I know the truth. I’ve already lost. Jaehyun did the one thing that I failed to do. He remembered to love and cherish you.”

“Mark, you didn’t have a choice.” You said to him, hoping he would change his perspective. His words were laced with melancholy and regret and you felt he was being too hard on himself for the paths chosen by the both of you.

“I always had a choice. I just made the wrong one.” Mark said, before standing to take his leave. “I promise this time I’ll leave you alone for good. I just wanted to spend my last day in the country in your presence. Hope you can understand…. Goodbye. Tell Jaehyun, I send my congratulations on the new baby.”

You nodded and smiled. “ Of course, Mark. You take care. And thank you for the memories.”

“No. Thank you.”  And with that, he walked off into the distance. You watched his retreating figure disappear as you pulled out your bracelet from your pocket, the rubber cheetah swinging back and forth.

Its so hard being a black women who likes fanfiction. Like there is just still so little representation. Even when things are “reader” they are coded for white people.

No one is running their fingers through my silky hair. Or brushing hair out of my eyes behind my ear. I have an afro and when I dont its in twists. Also, black women dont really let people touch or play in their hair.

I dont have pink nipples.

I dont blush. My skin will not turn red no matter how hard Im blushing.

Now I thought it was hard in the Peaky Fandom. But there are some amazing black fic writers here and likely more have emerged since I havent been active in the fandom for a few years.

Trying to read Kpop fan fiction, its even harder to find representation.
