Day Two Of The Monster Challenge. This One Is A Spider Person.

Day two of the monster challenge. This one is a spider person. 

I will fully and openly admit that this one was a bit of a challenge. I am not used to drawing spider people, and this one was what I settled on after multiple attempts. I know it's a practice thing, but I still feel a bit cold with this one. 

Edit: Retroactively adding names to the first two monsters. This lovely creature is now J. Attercop, Esquire. 

In the interests of making more art, my friend Verb and I are once again doing a once-a-day art challenge. This time it's monsters. Today is "merperson." We have sort of cherry-picked our own monster selection, as none of the established challenges really suited our sensibilities fully. 

This is ink and paint on brown paper with some colored pencil thrown in for spice. 

Edit: I am retroactively naming these guys. This fish person is going to be named Snaps from now on. 

So I bought the porcelain doll that looked like my friend porphyrin-prince and have been investing time in making it resemble him more closely. This is with the intention of doing a transcontinental collaboration, which I am very excited about!

The doll’s name is Joshua. I have cut and fixed his hair, transplanted his head onto a more suitable body, and am in the process of creating clothes for him. The faux blouse is merely a placeholder, but the little shorts are the pattern I created and mocked up.

He now has a big bell jar to live in, so that he doesn’t get dusty or messed up.

Joshua has a number of props and things that I am picking up here and there, and at some point, he will be going on some fine adventures.

Tiny marionette is now assembled. Just a few more rounds of sanding, gap-filling. and more sanding, and some more articulating with string, and it'll be ready to molded and cast in resin. 

Today's studio success has been turning two bags of dried-up 4-year old porcelain (the last time I did anything ceramic) into one glorious bucket of completely lump-free casting slip.

Drawing's hard lately. Drew a bug. It took too long.
