"Everybody Misses Out If One Person Ruins The Good Thing" Is Actually A Very Effective Way To Make Sure
"Everybody misses out if one person ruins the good thing" is actually a very effective way to make sure the people who want to ruin the good thing shut the fuck up because they realize very quickly that:
They don't get the good thing either. Being an asshole means nobody gets anything, not just the people they think don't deserve it.
The more they make everyone miss out on the good thing the less welcome they find themselves in a space.
It teaches proper fandom etiquette and consideration.
The only thing that allowing them to behave the way they do teaches is that it not only works, but they themselves are in a position of power to enact it.
If you act like an asshole and subsequently find yourself without content, friends and unwelcome in a fandom space you're going to sit down and keep your mouth shut the next time you have the opportunity to.
top/bottom discourse in the Genshin fandom is annoying
hear me out, I don’t have anything against people who like one fixed dynamic only. Unless they go out of their way to harass other fixed/switch dynamic shippers
and that’s exactly what happened to a zine artist. The zine is for profit, also still in the making but they announced a guest artist who doesn’t care about strict dynamics, they occasionally lean towards the other dynamic (let’s call it vanilla) but would draw the fixed dynamic (chocolate) for this zine
people who wanted chocolate only were angry about the fact that an artist who leans more to vanilla was invited for a chocolate zine. They called it “false advertising” and “being lied to” and “how can we make sure this person will only draw chocolate?!” and “how dare you invite a VANILLA artist for CHOCOLATE!”
the harassment was so bad that the artist deactivated their twitter and I’m really sad to hear that. What more, there were Chinese fixed shipper in the comments who insulted the zine mods and artist, making comments like “it looks you slept with each other” or “if you don’t get why were complaining, you’re stupid!”
and I’m just like… this is no big deal.
This zine is not out yet. No one lost money, no one was hurt by “false advertising”. The zine mods protect the artist and said switch shippers are welcome as long as they draw the fixed dynamic the mods decided on, which the artist will do or would have done. If you don’t like the product, you don’t have to buy it! It makes me sad that something so little exploded into something so big
Unfortunately this isn't just a Genshin issue. Fans are fucking rabid about top/bottom discourse and it usually boils down to some kind of heteronormative-vaguely-sexist flavor.
You see it most often in ships which have very obvious dynamic and personality differences. The "little sunshine one" is always the super feminine uwu bottom. The tallest one is always the top, though some people like to add a little spice by making them a submissive top.
And don't get me wrong—I'm not immune. I have the odd pairing where I'm more fixated on a set sexual dynamic, but I'm a switch shipper through and through. And I'd certainly never try to dictate that my preferences in fanon are the universal rule.
In all honesty, I'd have cancelled the zine. People need to learn that actions have consequences. If you want the fun fandom thing, you have to be respectful. Too many people have caved to fandom pressure and harassment and just aided in educating people that being cunts effectively gets them what they want. People need to learn there are consequences to ruining it for everyone else.
(Because lets be honest, you are going to be nobody's favorite person if everyone knows you're the reason they lost out on something.)

I hate the constant push to doomscroll, man. I have limited time on this planet, I don’t wanna spend it like the world’s gonna blow up.
BREAKING NEWS:
Local Internet Person wants to spend their life enjoying their existence instead of sitting on technology all day reading about world horrors to the detriment of their own health! The audacity!
Join us for more news at ten.
It confuses me when people say they're "neutral" on the pro/anti issue. Aside from seeming dismissive, the strange part is that most of these folks actually do share the same beliefs as pro-shippers -- understanding that fiction isn't real, not harassing others over fiction, and being against censorship, etc -- but they don't acknowledge it for some reason? Because by saying that they don't harass other people over fiction and understand that fiction is separate from reality, they are agreeing with pro-shippers.
But then they supposedly don't "care" enough to "pick a side". Alright, so, why are you here? By commenting on pro-ship posts about how neutral you are, you are still getting involved. By saying, "I won't pick a side because [I think the fact that it's a problem in the first place is ridiculous since it's just fiction, come on now,]" you are sharing the exhausted sentiments of pro-shippers! We agree with you. We're also fed up with it!
(Sorry for rambling. Love your blog!)
A lot of it stems from not wanting to be associated with the concept of proshipping that anti-propaganda has perpetrated. The word 'proship' is a massive target on someone's back which has become synonymous for some people with things like pedophile and abuse apologist.
"Not caring enough to pick a side" can often be translated to "I support this one side, but not enough to open myself up to abuse and harassment on its behalf."
It can also be translated as "I support this side, but not enough to spend my time arguing about it with people."
All of which are valid stances to have. I'm friends with people who are both engaged and passive about proshipping.
Vent channels typically attract two types of people
Spiralers and People pleasers
Neither of which are good to put together because they make each other worse.
Every emotion you have is ok to feel but maturing is learning who actually cares about you, and that not all emotions need to be expressed to everyone.
Sometimes you need to keep it internal until its socially safe to express it - something I learned the hard way from being autistic
Every vent channel I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing has at some point devolved into people arguing because of something one person said, or someone thinks someone else is in the wrong, or someone got personally offended by someone else's ranting.
I'm not wholly against vent channels, I just believe that the management and moderation of them is sorely lacking to the point that when they are present, they're less helpful and more just... Festering.
If you're going to have a place in your server where people are going to be purely negative and where people are going to be unleashing vulnerability, anger, sadness, prejudice, where they're going to be raising delicate and complex issues, you really need to watch it like a fucking hawk and monitor it. It needs to be somewhere where people outlet and move on, not where people are allowed to offer unprofessional advice or combative arguments to people who are in a fragile mindset.
Minnie! I need your help 🥺

This is a huge collection of 46 STOLEN Marvel ship stories, including a lot of Stucky content from some familiar names on AO3. The uploader has openly admitted they simply stole them off AO3.
I'm trying to track down the owners but its a lot of work, and there's a lot of different ships. Stony, Thorki, HawkIron, ect.
If anyone recognises where the find the authors or can help me get in touch with them to alert them, please do! 46 stories have been wrongfully stolen.
Uggghh you're kidding me, not again?? 😒 This is despicable, I don't understand how people who steal other people's work justify their actions to themselves, especially when people explicitly tell them how not cool it is??
Thanks for letting me know about this, nonnie! Let's hope the authors can be tracked down and that they can get this account taken down asap 🙏🏻
If anyone recognises any of the fics in this collection, please let the author know and also please report the account if you can! Thanks again ❤️
