Omg that post. (About not every space needing to be political) The amount of people who need every single little "what if this" "what if that" explained to them. It hurts. You cannot account for every single exception or situation and I'm damn well sure they know that but God. They want everyone to hold their hand. Stay strong. You got this.
I'm in a couple of servers that refuse to have dedicated vent spaces and they're very fun to be in and don't have drama. It works.
Yeah, the amount of people who are reading it and immediately launching into accusations of perpetrating racism and bigotry is... Concerning, to say the least. It just goes to show how far we've been pushed into believing that everything is offensive and that unless we're 24/7 "fighting bigotry" that we are the problem.
At this point I've stopped actually attempting to reason with any of them. If they're unwilling to read the literal thousands of other responses detailing why these spaces are viable and necessary, they are simply unwilling to acknowledge they are wrong. Its memes and eye rolling from here on out.

Imagine having a get together with friends to celebrate another friend graduating or getting a job, and then one of them (who the get together is not for) spends the next few hours just venting about their life and doesn't even consider anyone else, and when confronted about it, said person starts saying they're being censored.
That's what some of those replies sound like.
The unfortunate reality is that most of the people would still argue that that person has a right to do what they're doing and you're bad people for not allowing them the space and opportunity to outlet their emotions.
Suffering in solidarity and festering in misery are not noble causes. Forcing enlightenment and activism into every single space is a quick way to ensure people stop caring and stop fighting for causes effectively.
Nobody is going to pat you on the back for forcing other people into depression and burnout and ill health in the name of grandstanding honor and activism. We're all just going to think you're an ignorant cunt who certainly won't be getting an invite to the next party.
I moderate a fan server for a gaming YouTuber, and my god the responses you're getting about how not all spaces need a vent channel sound so familiar... our server has a vent channel, but we still have banned topics, and had to put what we informally call the "This Is A Fucking Wendy's Rule" (remember this is a discord server for a youtuber) in our community guidelines. And people complain that we're silencing them or sticking our heads in the sand because we don't allow conversations about politics or wars unless you're venting about being directly affected. Do you not have any better places to talk about this stuff than a youtuber's fan discord???
Some of the stories I'm seeing in the reblogs and the tags are wild. And not just the ones that are agreeable.
(Genuinely, the way some people are losing their fucking minds because I said they aren't entitled to bring their misery into every single space they occupy. They're all reaching so bad for exemptions or justifications and if I roll my eyes any harder they're gonna disconnect.)
I'm sorry I just saw the screenshot of the reblog by that something-wizard. I just had to say: how DARE they to assume someone else's irl condition? how DARE they to assume how my life is and call me privileged based on the fact that I don't want politics or similar things in my fandom space? I'm going through a very HARD time in fact and because I'm dealing with those very things you said irl and CAN'T VOID THEM, I don't want to hear about them in my fandom space! There are more than one server, blog or similar spaces for each fandom. If one doesn't allow irl topics you can join another that does. If there isn't any? Make your own! I and others don't owe you anything, we don't have to explain why we don't want irl topics discussed in our spaces nor do we have to explain our living conditions to you! Also, having rules for our own spaces(blogs, servers and such) is not censorship. We are not saying "don't discuss irl issues in any fandom space or anywhere online ever art all !!!" We are saying "this is a specific place I created and I don't want those things discussed here, there are other places for that".
And to the op of that post and this blog: I'm sorry for my rant here. I just thought someone has to be very self-centered to think the way they do, especially as I go through a hard time their post was a punch to my gut today. Also thank you.
Based on the rest of the blog and their general responses to people they're just an ignorant troll trying to white-knight the internet and earn brownie points for virtue signalling. You'll see a lot of that when getting into online spaces revolving around media analysis or critical discussion.
Frankly, the best way to deal with those people is just to completely and blatantly block and ignore them. The less attention they get for their parading the less satisfying it is for them. Or if you do engage, do it only in a passive way like memes and reaction pictures, which don't actually give them what they're looking for—the chance to argue with you and look superior.
They just wind up looking like a dick.
The vast majority of the people lashing out at me on that post are people who firmly believe that because there is suffering in the world we must all suffer in solidarity. That we must relentlessly and restlessly fight in their honor.
Some might say that ideal is noble. I say its fucking stupid. Psychologists say its fucking stupid. People who have burnt themselves out trying to fulfil that expectation say its fucking stupid.
The people wilfully launching into the worst bad-faith assumptions about that post are the ones who need to sit back and reflect upon themselves. And possibly go back into the educational system.
I'm used to people making the worst assumptions of me. It doesn't bother me. It never will because they don't know me and all their grandstanding just makes them look like a judgemental idiot. I'm here to say what I think and to share factual information, and I'm doing so. If they disagree with that they're welcome to, but I'm not obligated to indulge them on it.
I wish people understood that anyone remotely smart does not get news from social media posts. If you're mad at someone posting about their blorbos instead of the news ask yourself why you put random online people that you don't know on the same pedistal as verified journalists and what that says about your susceptibility to propaganda. Most people who harass those who are "being silent" usually ignore the vast majority of other world issues anyway. I say all this as someone who isn't privileged and posts both about my fandoms and politics on my blog.
"If you don't acknowledge inequality and bigotry and suffering in every single moment of your life you're a horrible racist bigot that perpetrates genocide!"
Meanwhile the majority of the time "exposure" is the literal only activism these people are doing. I donate and sign petitions and boycott and I can promise you the literal last thing I want to do when I'm in a server about monsterfucking is wave my moral superiority flag and force people to talk about dead children and mass murder. I'm capable of doing both without having to force them to intertwine.

I am actually begging some people to just let some spaces exist untouched by real-world issues and horrors.
Like I've lost count of the amount of times peaceful game or fandom servers have been ruined by people stampeding in with political rants, bitching about world issues, demanding internal activism, demanding vent channels so they can whine about their shitty parents, ect.
Like. Respectfully. Not every single space has to be inclusive of and welcoming of outside topics. The real world sucks. We don't needed to be reminded of that absolutely everywhere.
