๐ญ. quantity over quality ( ๐ฟ )
if you've landed on this profile, you're probably an academic overachiever, or a control freak, or both. i know the feeling of wanting to do everything perfectly, but we are simply human, and it is not possible to be good at everything right away. your first projects, your first models, will not be excellent, you will end up redoing the same drawings over and over again, but there is no point in wasting time redoing the same axonometry ten times until it is perfect. go ahead, experiment, you will improve visibly. i look at the differences between my works six months later and i am amazed at how much i have improved in such a short time. you will too. don't be afraid to make mistakes, ever.
๐ฎ. architecture is not study, it is life ( ๐ชธ )
sure, we go to university, we take exams, but you don't study real architecture at school. your professors can only give you the foundations on which to build your future, the technical standards, advice, laws, but if you really want to know architecture you have to read, learn, explore, in the most disparate fields possible. architecture is not art, not really, architecture is a home, it is life, as such, it must be lived. you will never design something meaningful if you don't know how to live.
๐ฏ. be humble, you're young ( ๐ข )
you will study architecture for the rest of your life. you'll never stop learning new things about it, and that's awesome. don't rely too much on one person's point of view, no matter how cultured they may be, they will never know every single aspect of architecture, and neither will you. all you have to do is build your vision based on your studies and experiences. you will probably change your mind many times, you will probably fall into wrong beliefs, you will discover new things every day, you will only stop learning when you die.
๐ฐ. you don't have to be good at drawing ( โ๏ธ )
it is certainly an added value, but it is not a fundamental thing. you will draw little or nothing freehand, most of the drawings will be purely technical and almost all digital. you don't need to know how to draw on a program like AutoCAD, but i can assure you that you will lose sleep over the floor plans of your projects.
๐ฑ. prioritize practical projects ( โ )
concentrate on the models and drawings you have to turn in, i assure you that they take up much more of your time than they seem. always plan ahead when making a project (an unexpected event can always happen) and NEVER print on the day of the exam.
๐ฒ. be kind to yourself ( ๐ชป )
everyone has their own time to improve. i chose to study architecture at the last minute and before starting university i was so scared by the idea of being surrounded by people much better than me who had probably been studying the subject for years and had always dreamed of becoming architects. it doesn't mean anything. if you have the right determination it will take you very little time to make great improvements, no one is your competition, your only opponent is yesterday's you, the only thing in front of you is the finish line. maybe you're the next renzo piano and you don't know it yet.

๐ญ. my notepad ( ๐ฑ )
i take very messy notes, especially when the professor speaks fast and i have to write in a hurry. many note-taking apps allow you to record the teacher's voice, so you can listen back to the lesson when you reorganize your notes at home. the notepad allows me to write pages and pages without wasting paper.
๐ฎ. charger ( ๐ )
i often spend 9 or 10 hours at university and i can't risk one of my devices running out of battery. with a charger always in my bag i never risk finding myself unable to use my phone or notepad.
๐ฏ. water bottle ( ๐ถ )
it is important to stay hydrated during the day, especially if you spend a lot of time at university. i recommend always having a two-liter water bottle available, especially during long lessons that require concentration.
๐ฐ. snacks/lunch ( ๐ฒ )
preparing healthy meals for lunch improves not only your health, but also your productivity and concentration during lessons. having snacks high in phosphorus and magnesium to consume throughout the day will prevent you from consuming junk food from vending machines. ( + don't forget chewing gums !! )
๐ฑ. hygiene bag ( ๐ท )
i'll make a specific post for this.
๐ฒ. umbrella ( โ๏ธ )
i admit i'm terrible at this because I always forget my umbrella. i'm lucky enough to live near the university, so i walk there, but it becomes a real problem when it starts raining and i have to run home in the rain. so always carry a small pocket umbrella in your bag, i suggest it from experience.
๐ณ. books ( ๐ )
it may seem strange but i don't use books at university. many of the lessons in architecture are practical and we do not follow specific textbooks for the theoretical lessons (the professors prefer to provide us with materials and use powerpoints), but it depends on the faculty you attend, your study method and the teaching method of your professor.
any interaction with the post will be appreciated !! โก

become so committed to your goals that no amount of failure could ever stop you.
(17) ๐๐๐ โ ( studyblr ) on Tumblr: my goal in life is to become the most well educated, well dressed, well mannered, most successful, most humble person you'll...
But then what will you do with that knowledge
knowledge should be the food of young people, and i'm sorry that many don't understand this. only through the exploration of experiences far from everyday life - either through the study of literature and the classics, gaining conscious information through the media, and through the empirical experiences of life - critical thinking can be acquired.
critical thinking is "the process of thinking carefully about a subject or idea, without allowing feelings or opinions to affect you." [source: dictionary.cambridge.org]
it's what my generation is missing. the ability to form one's own thoughts based on information, and not having to scroll through the comments of a tiktok to develop an idea. by studying you acquire this skill, and by acquiring knowledge you gain the ability to form opinions and defend them coherently using logical tools; ergo, you do not end up making senseless sentences and then not being able to defend them.
then, when i'll consider myself sufficiently mature, educated and well-informed (which may never happen, but it is definitely my goal), i will pass this wisdom and hunger for knowledge to my children and to the people in my life who will be willing to face their personal path of openness to knowledge.
plato (probably reporting socrates' words) said, "แฝ ฯฮน แผ ฮผแฝด ฮฟแผถฮดฮฑ ฮฟแฝฮดแฝฒ ฮฟแผดฮฟฮผฮฑฮน ฮตแผฐฮดฮญฮฝฮฑฮน" (in english: โi know that i don't knowโ) and there is no shame in that. but not being able to know everything doesn't mean we shouldn't know anything.
i don't wanna be a victim of this society and time, and i'm gonna do everything that is in my power to avoid it.
so yeah, this is what i'm gonna do. sounds good, right?
