While I suspect that Rey is a Skywalker I laugh and laugh at the thought of Kylo Ren geeking out and babbling about Lord Darth Vader to Rey while she interjects things to him that leave him confused. More seriously I had a vaguely similar thought for an AU but Rey doesn't know who her caretaker is/was but until the movie I don't know where to go with it. And for possible spoilers and certainly more laughs I will both laught at and feel very sorry for everyone who has written fan fics with Kylo/Rey pairings if they are related. Bonus Points if they are brother and sister and not cousins. #laughing my head off #spoilers?

I'm having a lot of feels about Force ghost Anakin communicating to Rey while she's left on Jakku (since she was 5??? Idk if that's true???) and using the Tatooine religion you've talked a lot about to sort of help her and make her feel a little less alone (especially if she's his granddaughter I feel like there would be some sort of familial obligation)

I told myself I would absolutely not write any TFA fic before the movie came out. I’m not going to do it, I said. It will be drastically AU in less than a month, I said. It’s a terrible idea, I said.

Ugh now I’m going to have to do it. This is all your fault, anon. Expect some fic soon you jerk.

But also, just imagine this: For years, Anakin Skywalker has been Rey’s best friend. He’s told her stories. He’s taught her how to cook, and how to fly, and how to fix any number of things and how to create useful items out of scraps of old junk. He’s sat with her through every single sandstorm. He’s shared all of his dad jokes with her, and Rey knows they’re terrible, but she doesn’t fully appreciate just how terrible, since there’s no one else around to compare them with.

(Actually, Anakin has been with her more often than not. Probably the Force police keep trying to tell him that there are rules, that spirits are only supposed to visit the living in times of real need, and sparingly. Anakin just glares and says, “My granddaughter is adding a new mod to BB-8 today, that is absolutely vital, of course I have to be there.”)

And now imagine that Rey, whose best friend is the ghost of Anakin Skywalker, meeting Kylo “I’m Darth Vader’s Biggest Fan” Ren.

It would be absolutely amazing.

“Darth Vader was a visionary!” Kylo Ren says rapturously. “A military genius! He created a galaxy that worked! He - ”

“Yeah, okay, believe what you want,” says Rey. “But I’m telling you, the man’s favorite joke is ‘Two Corellians walk into a bar. The third ducks.’ He’s a hopeless dweeb.”

Kylo gets so offended, like, “How dare you talk about Darth Vader like that!”

And Rey is just unphased, because really, just last month her grandfather was geeking out about that set of jet boosters she found in an old wreck, and while they worked on souping up Rey’s speeder he was gleefully telling her all about his latest prank against his former Master in the afterlife.

“Darth Vader was a genius,” Kylo Ren insists. “Palpatine was a fool, but Vader was the real power behind the Empire.”

“Yeah, that definitely makes sense,” says Rey. “He told me just last week all about how he sent Palpatine a gilt-framed blueprint of the Death Star reactor core for the anniversary of his death. It was very tasteful.”

(Kylo wants to be mad, but he’s honestly more confused than anything. She’s talking like she chats with Vader’s ghost regularly, and apparently Vader’s spending his afterlife pranking Palpatine. But obviously that’s completely ridiculous. Obviously.)

Sometimes fan fiction is better than published books and it’s cheaper to read too.

EDIT: I am not in any way cheapening fan fic authors, I am one myself, what I mean is all you need to read fan fiction is an Internet connection, whether through an Internet provider or data through a cell phone, and you can read hundreds of thousands of fan fics on dozens of different sites for free and all that we should do is drop a review and/or like/favorite/give kudos afterwards (I’m not always good about leaving a review but I do try to like/favorite/give kudos).

So when Finn arrives at Coruscant and by some twist of fate ends up becoming a Knight of Ren instead of a stormtrooper what would his name be?

I have a question about Whom Hades Seized, how do the names of the Knights of Ren work? When you join are you assigned a name based off of your gift(s) or is it selected from a list or do you take the name of one that died/retired?

My answer turned into a short essay? Oops.

Knights whose given birth names are already in High Basic are not renamed. Hecate, Thanatos, and Dion were all born to Imperial/First Order parents, so their parents would have given them High Basic names from the beginning. Morpheus also named Phobetor in High Basic, even though it was not his first language. For those whose birth names were originally in other languages, their name would be transliterated and sometimes shortened into High Basic (not translated!). So Strei-kai-loro became Kylo. Morpheus, Nyx, and Pasithea all changed their birth names into the High Basic ones they use now.

The knights’ familial names are dropped and replaced with the title “Ren.” It is essentially a symbolic marker that they have joined the Knights. For example, Hecate was born “Hecate Soteria,” but when she joined the Knights, she became “Hecate Ren.”

There is no concept of retirement for the knights. They keep the title “Ren” until death. It is very rare, but knights may choose to leave, or they could commit some grievous wrong and be banished from the knights. In those cases, they would not be permitted to keep the title.

The normal naming rules don’t apply to the King of the Dead. Kylo retains all of his names and titles at once, both on the maternal and paternal sides. That would include the title “Ren.” You might have noticed that Thrawn didn’t quite understand this, because the ways of the knights are fairly hidden and they stay out of court politics. It is a common misconception that Kylo, like the rest of the Knights, dropped his family names to take the title “Ren.” Which would have made the blood rite impossible, since it requires one person to confer a family name onto the other person.

 A really funny image that is in my mind right now is until Vader learned about Luke he was basically acting like Ash Ketchum’s Charizard: lazying around until he is commanded to smash Rebels or he wants to curb stomp them. It’s a funny image.
