the lowkey family dynamic between c!wilbur, c!tommy, and c!tubbo fucking keeps me up at night. like c!wilbur loved those kids, he loved and trusted them, and even if it wasn’t enough it was something.

they were his most trusted lieutenants, his protégés, the first on his left and right. his little brothers that he built walls to protect. and it isn’t enough but it’s something.

and when he’s mentally gone, when he thinks l’manberg is lost, his last effort at saving l’manberg is putting them in charge. and in the end he decides that even they can’t save l’manberg and restore it to his vision, but it’s not because of them. it’s in spite of them. he said “even with tubbo in charge” because he truly believed tubbo was the best chance l’manberg had. he had faith in those kids, and it wasn’t enough but it was something.

and c!wilbur is terrifying, and he’s crude, and he’s loud and his affections are as brutal as his temper. but dammit he loved those kids. and he didn’t say it enough, and he didn’t show it enough, but it was something.

and i think c!tommy and c!tubbo understood that. and they take after him, trying to fill his absence in the server like a child thumps around the house in their parents shoes when they aren’t home. and they want to make him proud, and they miss him even if he scared them sometimes. he was their general and their president and their mentor and their older brother. and in the end it wasn’t enough to save c!wilbur (nothing was enough to save c!wilbur) but it was something.

and that something was sunny days safe in the shade of walls constructed to keep them safe. black and yellow walls like the bees they treasure. flowers and vans and bubbling bottles by a lake. and it wasn’t enough, and it didn’t last, but it was real.
