Secret Santa / Day One (12 Days of Avengers Christmas)

I had a LOT of ideas about CHristmas things so I decided to just write a bunch of them and flood you guys with cuteness to make up for the fact that I haven’t been doing anything!! <3

Here’s a list of head cannon-y things from Secret Santa!!

Secret Santa was…. intense for the Avengers.

~ First things first is the insane list of rules that accompanied the game. In total there’s about 78 that have been made over the years, but here’s just a few of them…

1. NO TRADING (even if Tony tries to pay you)

2. NO telling the person who you have (Thor, if you need help with ideas refer to the Secret Santa Chart)

3. No telling other people who you have (let’s be real, we’re all a bunch of gossips and it will get out)

4. Limit of $250 (Tony this mostly applies to you… like most of these rules)

5. No re-gifting (Loki)

26. No opening gifts until everyone is there

44. Gifts are to be opened in a counter clockwise order starting with whoever is closest to the random remote we still don’t know the function of but is still in the living room for who knows why

78. No giving gifts that you have stolen from the SHIELD evidence locker (pretty much everybody)

~ At the end of the very long document is everyone’s signature, and Tony even got it notarized as a legal document.

~ In addition to the list of rules is the “Secret Santa Chart”, referred to in Rule No. 2, which has every team member’s list of fav’s (color, animal, place, food, etc), along with every gift they have ever been given in an Avenger’s Secret Santa. It took a while to make, but it is extremely helpful.

~ Each year is themed.. One year it was dinosaurs, one year it was music, once it was food. You all take turns choosing the year’s theme (and it cannot have a majority of veto’s, but that’s never happened… although it did get close when Tony made the theme cars one year.)

~ Names are put into the sacred Santa hat and are picked in order of when you joined the team (this is taken very seriously, and Bucky once couldn’t draw a name for three weeks because you were away on a mission)

~ That wasn’t too big of an issue because you draw names super early… September 1st actually.

~ Everyone’s favorite person to draw is Thor because he’s happy with literally anything. (He once got a VHS from Vision and was so happy his shouts of excitement made everyone just a little deaf… the VHS was Jimmy Neutron)

~ Everyone’s least favorite person to buy for is Tony. Mostly because he already has everything, but also because he’ll get drunk at New Years then get super sentimental and cry in gratitude about whatever you got him.

~ Some of the best Secret Santa memories include…

- The year Loki replaced everyone’s name with his own and so everyone had to get him a present…. Everyone ended up getting him the same present. It was a snow globe of NYC. He acted mad but he actually has them all sitting on a shelf in his room.

- When the theme was cars Tony drew your name. He basically made a slightly larger version of those electric cars they make for children. You got to drive the car around the entire Tower (he made it so it fit in the elevator). You had it until Clint and Sam got really drunk and “borrowed” it to drive to the nearest fast food place

- One year Thor forgot to get Bruce a gift. Bruce was fine with it because he actually drew Thor’s name and just kept the gift. It was a four section toaster. Thor was pretty upset.

- Steve always makes (the best) DIY gifts. He knit Natasha a sweater, drew Pietro a beautiful landscape of Sokovia, and made Clint a teddy bear out of his kids outgrown clothing.

- When the year was dinosaurs Tony bought Steve a mirror. Natasha pulled some strings and got Peter a walk on part in Jurassic World.

- Sam gave T’Challa a cat one year. The theme was supposed to be music but no one complained about it.

- Stephen gave Bruce the gift of taking him to alternate universe where the Hulk didn’t exist. Bruce realized how much the world needed the other guy, and how much he needed his teammates. Its the first time he felt truly at peace about the Other Guy.

- Every year Bucky gets Fury. Every year Fury gets a new eye patch. They’re decorated. Some say things like “POW!” in comic book style One of them is decorated like Captain America’s shield. There’s on that lights up. But Bucky’s personal favorite is the one that is painted to look like an eye that makes everyone do a double take. Fury’s favorite is the one that’s completely pink. He wears it on Wednesdays.

- One year the theme was homemade and Steve made Tony one of those cheesy coupon books, but instead of chores or favors Steve was willing to do it was filled with different jokes he would allow Tony to make about him…. Tony went through the entire coupon book in two hours.

~ Overall Secret Santa is just a fun time to come together and be a family. Each new addition may be a little confused at first but they catch on pretty quick
