them always having this slight air of competition between them and being polite and all that to each other but they never fully let their guards down. 

Percy stays wary of the air, Jason stays wary of the ocean. 

they find that the rivalry between their fathers seems to follow them 

both boys being territorial over their home camps, not wanting to really let the other get comfortable because it’s mine 

when they spar it always gets a little too aggressive and sometimes they come close to actually hurting each other but come to their senses at the last minute. 

sure the camps are reconciled but Jason can’t help that he was born and raised a Roman, never built to trust the Sea especially as a son of Jupiter 

and Percy can’t help that he knows the kinds of things that Zeus is capable of and wonders how much of that nature is in Jason 

Annabeth asking Percy why he’s always so hesitant to hang w Jason and Piper and finally he admits it to her “something about being around him… It brings out a bad side. Puts me on edge. It’s like…the camps have made peace but our dads haven’t. It almost feels like being around Ares.”

then she notices it when Jason comes back from a CJ visit and it makes her nervous cause she remembers the panic in Piper’s voice when she talked about the Topeka incident

so Annabeth does her best to diffuse it but she can’t deny that they bring out a bit of the darkness in each other

them bumping shoulders and literally feeling a spark of electricity like a storm is fissling in the space between them

whispers from other campers don’t help either– camp half blood kids who have known Percy since he was 12 and comment how Jason doesn’t stand a chance against Percy who is undoubtedly the most powerful demigod in recent history; kids at camp jupiter who remember watching Jason take down a Titan and wonder how the kid who handed over a knife is supposed to compare to that 

one day Percy goes to the beach to clear his head cause he doesn’t like the way the tension is making him feel and his dad shows up

Poseidon plops down next to him and is like “now you see why we made the pact in the first place”

“I feel like you’re antagonising the situation, pops”

“You sound like Zeus" 

*gasps in horror* “that was low dad”

The only advice Poseidon offers is for Percy and Jason to stay out of each other’s way.  

“And what if that doesn’t work" 

“Then you remind that Roman why my realm was the one thing they never conquered.“

“Cmon pops you gotta know that’s an antagonistic thing to say" 

Poseidon chuckles “It’s just fun sometimes ya know”
