Poem: Explorers
Poem: Explorers
I want to watch the world with you.
Let’s walk somewhere, or everywhere,
And take in the sky,
Sunrise to sunset
With a glint in your eye.
Come exploring with me.
Let’s go on a hunt
For the tallest tree;
I’m afraid of falling
But I’ll climb it
If you’ll be up there with me.
We can find a field
For picnicking,
Stargazing,
Dream-chasing.
Let’s ride our bikes to the ocean
To breathe in some salt and sunshine
Before we have to turn back.
Let’s pretend that we’ve known each other
For as long as the world has been here
And make every step together
A new adventure.

Poem: Streamers
In another world,
You and I would step out,
Arm in arm,
To dance beneath the streamers
That scream “PROM”
In shades of neon
That you’d call “nauseating”
But make you smile nonetheless
Because the atmosphere there is too upbeat
For a poor design choice to make a difference.
We would sway to too-loud tunes,
Slow-dance on what is supposed to be
One of the best nights of high school,
And pretend that we will be okay,
At least for one day.

Poem: Drifting
Sometimes I sit alone
And watch the ever-changing sky.
I see the clouds in shapes of you
As they go slowly drifting by.

Poem: Beauty
I saw a half-drawn image of a girl,
One whom I nearly mistook for myself,
Before I realized how much smoother the lines were
That were painted on her face,
How few eraser marks I could discern on the page.
Her skin too vibrant,
Her eyes too bright,
How could I mistake her silky hair for mine?
I saw a half-drawn image of a girl,
Who bore no likeness to myself,
Before I realized how alike we were
In the first moment that I saw her,
When I saw my half-drawn self
Reflected in her eyes,
When her half-drawn eyes
Reflected her half-drawn self back into mine.

Poem: Song of Last Summer
When I would tune in to your station,
My BPM would shift to match your mood.
Some days I still hear the serene summer sound
Of your heartbeat in my memory,
Your sincere smile, reminiscent of sunshine,
A soothing vision in my sweetest dreams.
Sometimes I feel our hands brush past each other
In my nightmares,
Your fingers skimming mine for a moment
Before retreating, always too soon.
I watch you leave me
Again, every time,
Yet still, I love you in my mind –
Yet still, I love you
Like when your love was mine.
