“A watched pot never boils”, as the old saying goes. Throughout all of history there has always been at least one set of eyes on the ocean. Today, for a split second, everyone looking at the ocean looked away at the exact same time.

Every version of dwarves has them being almost constantly armoured, and living in huge fortresses and underground tunnels, usually with some super-dramatic main gate that’s twenty feet high and about three feet thick.

What if there’s a reason for that? Like, they weren’t always a race of warriors and miners who almost never showed themselves above ground?

What if they’re the fantasy equivalent of those survivalists who turn their basement into a bomb shelter and fill the place with guns and canned food because they’re totally convinced The End Is Nigh?

What about a setting where the dwarves used to be perfectly happy above ground, growing flowers and getting a tan, until some huge disaster happened, and they all went Fuck This. So they dug down and hid away until the zombie horde or magical plague or the horde of rabid squirrels or whatever had passed, but they never forgot, and now their entire species is like “Constant Vigilance!”

There might even be some dwarf cities buried so deep they never heard the disaster ended. A whole city-fortress of paranoid, armed to the teeth dwarves, ready to kick the shit out of anything that isn’t a dwarf.

A novel about a depressed superhero who just can get out of their apartment to help anyone. So crime rises and people die, and the hero can’t find it in them to care. And all the news wants to know is where did their hero go? Why has the hero abandoned them? The hero doesn’t know, but a barely there villain does. So the villain reaches out to the hero and offers the hero their company, because they know what it’s like to be so depressed you can barely get out of bed to go to the bathroom; they’ve been there before. Normally the hero would frown at hanging out with a villain, but since they don’t care about anything right now, they don’t oppose the idea. So the villain starts visiting the hero regularly; making the hero meals, helping the hero clean the apartment, and just watching Netflix with the hero until they both fall asleep. They become friends, and slowly the hero starts to get better and able to do more things. The hero starts therapy and even saves a couple people here and there. And all the while, the villain is right there with them, helping them along the way (though they’re still a villain and that’s not changing). And eventually the hero asks the villain to move in with them because they can’t picture their life without the villain, but it’s not romantic in anyway whatsoever. They become permanent roommates and best friends and maybe, just maybe, they adopt a dog together.

Due to unknown causes, gravity is reversed in a way that leaves the earth’s oceans to float in the air without warning.

Imagine being a human in an alien crew in space and leaving with bright blue or pink hair and the color fades and everybody on board wonders WHY you are losing your colors??? Is it the lack of greens? Are you sad? Angry? They just don’t know??
