RAHHHHH TRAIN WORLDBUILDING IS MY FAVORITE THING EVER HERE TAKE SOME:
ok so in my au, trains weren’t originally alive. they were just objects like they are irl, but at some point a manufacturer managed to give life to a train, giving it a pretty basic level of intelligence on par with a horse. that’s how many trains operated for a while, with horse-like intelligence, and were operated by their human owners. they were essentially seen as giant mechanical pets at the time. as technology advanced, train intelligence did as well (which was helped by their frequent interactions with humans). they began to understand their languages and learn them, repeating them in their own voices. with this growing intelligence, the railways began upgrading their trains with their own range of completely autonomous mobility so they can travel around without humans, because it was believed that this would benefit the company greatly (since the companies could cut costs from paying engine crews if the trains could operate themselves). yeah so like, within a few decades, trains and humans became equally intelligent as each other, and with that, humans began reshaping human-train relations. they are living, sentient creatures after all, they were no longer just things to use to get a job done. terminology began to be changed. trains were no longer “owned” by a railway, they were instead “employed.” they were not “bought,” but “hired” or “transferred” from other railways. they even began receiving a small salary for their work (only because trains have very little use for money in general. the most they can use it for is for repairs and new coats of paint, they don’t really buy material things since they don’t have any use for them). as of right now, trains are completely autonomous and independent and are essentially treated as giant mechanical humans with wheels and have their own hobbies, are provided with their own enrichment during downtime.
hey guys do you know how much more time until the stex revival
