The More Versions Of The Story You See, The More You Appreciate The Complexity Of Their Relationship,
The more versions of the story you see, the more you appreciate the complexity of their relationship, especially when adding the book on top of that.
i just got back from seeing the brazilian production of les mis and here are some of my thoughts on the brazilian enjoltaire:
- grantaire is really sad??? maybe the saddest grantaire i’ve seen?? i don’t really know how to explain it but even in his line in red & black he was more like a sad drunk than a playful drunk.. i thought that was a really interesting portrayal of R - instead of teasing enj, grantaire was kind of abrupt to him for most of the show and it almost felt like R didn’t trust himself around enjolras - R quietly nodded along enj’s words quite a few times - enjolras doesn’t really acknowledge grantaire till the barricade when he hands R the gun - after eponine’s death, grantaire literally doesn’t take his eyes off enjolras - in drink with me, when grantaire starts singing his part, enjolras breaks into the most beautiful shiny grin???? - but as soon as enj realizes what grantaire is singing/talking about, his smile disappears - also during his lines in drink with me, R is throwing stuff around angrily and no one is really being able to stop him - enj runs up to grantaire and everyone backs off - grantaire stops and, for the first time during the show, allows himself to get really near enjolras and they hold the most intense and longest eye contact???/)/ - my favorite part about this was that you could really see how much enj cares about grantaire
ok so this is what i gathered from watching les mis brasil tonight. can’t really confirm if this was what the actors were going for… im so far up enjoltaire’s ass i may have read way too much into their actions. buT ANYWAY both the actors who played enjolras and grantaire were AMAZING and they deserve all the love!!!

Okay, so, yesterday I went to Folketeateret (theatre in Oslo, Norway) and watched Les Mis on stage for the first time, and I have made some notes of my favourite details…
First off, the stage rotated, which made the setting and some of the scenes (like Valjean’s journey before he meets the Bishop) a lot more dynamic
So, Act 1:
The foreman regrets throwing Fantine out, it seems more like he’s giving in to the other workers demands rather than being angry with her for not sleeping with him. As she is thrown out, the other workers attack her (after she tried choking one of them when they got her fired), and when they leave he tries to comfort her, but she pushes him away and he leaves her on stage
Eponine gave Cosette her doll when she left with Valjean
In the first Paris scene, the students are seen walking around in the streets helping the poor, giving out food and money, not just leaflets
Grantaire and Enjolras argues in the scene, and the stand (unnecessarily) very super close, multiple times. They also keep touching/pushing each other in the chest to get their points across
When Gaveoche shit-talks Javert, saying that he’s the one to actually rule the street, they stand face to face one meter apart, “talking” to each other. They both salute each other before they leave
GAV IS ALSO A SUPER TINY SMOL, HOLY SHIT THE ACTOR LOOKS LIKE HE’S 8 OR SMTH!!
All of Patron Minette is there, ¾ are dressed in fancy coats and top hats, one is dressed in rags. That one is Montparnasse, which is hilarious
Lol this got long, the people that sat behind me probably hated me
