Might be a bit late, but I made a thing with Mai + my OC Uta for Mai's City of the Wolves announcement.

It's a pretty neat design, cool to see Mai in something that isn't a ninja outfit or an elaborate dress.

Did another tier list on Zan Evolution Butouden, since I'm more familiar with the game now, and a few new characters have been added since my last one:
(Also I based this one more off my personal ability as the characters, rather than competitive viability. This is because I know nothing about competitive viability and was talking complete nonsense in my last list.)

Explanations/unrelated ramblings below:
S Tier – My Mains (and just good characters)
Fran and Sinkage are both bosses (and the final two at that), so it's not a surprise that they're tough. I've actually figured out some TODs as Fran against the lower health characters (i.e. Fanhua, Ranmaru and Fran herself), and while Sinkage's Rise Cutter loops no longer work as well, the addition of an elbow drop output from it makes it still a very deadly move.
Ahh, Ciara, my true main... How I love spending two meters to take an enemy's entire healthbar just because they dared to jump in my presence. Her chain grabs are just really satisfying, too, and unlike anything I've seen in any other characters I've had. (and not a full-circle motion in sight!)
A Tier – The ones I'm comfortable with
A few of these characters (Zanryu, Renmia and Jacob) are shoto-like, and therefore quite easy to learn and get good as. They're all still pretty interesting to play in their own ways: Zanryu's got enough extra tools to distance his playstyle from the typical shoto, making him more of an aerial dominator (his Air Nova Strike especially, makes his air play very hard to challenge), and Renmia's moveset is like a fusion of a shoto and Terry Bogard, making her more familiar to play, and a good beginner character.
I feel like, if I gave him more time, Casben could be in S Tier. A lot of his kit feels very powerful (in earlier builds I remember his jumping knee being able to loop into itself very easily), and both of his supers are very good (his handspring is always a very tricky cross-up when the CPU does it, but a complete whiff when I try -_-). The only thing holding him back is that I play more as everyone else, lol.
Taka is in a weird spot, where I feel like he as a character isn't that strong, but my skill can kind of make up for it? I don't know, I've had a tendency to accidentally main low tiers in other games (the first character I picked up in Sm4sh was Little Mac, and I also mained Ganondorf), and with his smaller moveset and limited combo potential, Taka feels like this to me. But I'm actually pretty competent as Taka – he's one of the few characters I can chain both supers into without an OTG, and I win most fights where I play as him.
B Tier – ...I'm okay, I guess.
I know I used to main Fanhua, but the more I play as her, the worse I get, it feels... I think my main struggle are that her Elbow Reach isn't a special move anymore, and that her rekkas don't combo (or I just can't get the timing for them :P).
Ranmaru is a character I wish I was better as, because her moveset seems so cool, but all of her inputs are half-circles, and I play on keyboard half of the time (and I'm inconsistent with half-circles even on controller). She even influenced Uta a bit (Hissatsu Shinobi Cho was very much based on Ranmaru's Elbow Dive – before I played Ranmaru, Uta was going to have "Zan'eichu", which was basically just Andy's Zan'eiken).
C Tier – Yeah... I'm losing this one

Leo's pretty neat, I guess; his moveset is like a Joe Higashi/Sagat fusion, with an added TC and rekka. I just never really played either of those characters much, so I don't know what to do with him.
D Tier – I have no idea what to do with these people
I've not played as any of these characters much (except for Warsnite), so I'm not at all familiar with their movesets... I tried to fight Zanryu (the person, not the character) as Feng Yun once and got folded in half immediately. I've never even attempted Spike, Antbyte or Ninewave.
I honestly can't believe I used to main Warsnite... His airdash is cool, but he's otherwise the complete opposite of what I usually go for in a character – he's got the smallest moveset in the game (which is okay, I just like having more options), and is the slowest, heaviest character. I've seen him do, like, one cool combo, and even then; it was the CPU doing it on me, and it spent one meter for damage I can outmatch with Fanhua for zero.

I'm not sure, I wanted to include custom voice acting for her, but I've never got the time alone to actually record anything yet, so that may have to wait for later.
I also was going to include a Climax Super (she has engine features based on KOF XV), but it seems like my plan was too ambitious for my current skill level. I'll probably add that in a later update...
As a celebration of her completion(?), have a little combo I figured out using both of her supers:
(Mai character is by animochi, I don't have a link for them but I know they're on MUGEN Archive and MUGEN Free-for-All)
Uta's sprites are all done now btw. Like, all of them.
She has a lot more than Shun, lol, but that's mostly because I tried to include some KOF-isms into her moveset (she has EXs, a knockdown attack, and an evade).
I just finished assembling her spritesheet now; it was pretty awkward to do, because I don't have a consistent way of making spritesheets yet, and my phone can only handle projects of a certain size before it starts to lag. I'll post the sheet on my DeviantArt when the character's done (which should be soon!).

Just finished my tenth arcade in Zan Evolution Butouden, here are my scores:

Honestly didn't expect to do so good with Taka, as I'm not very good as him; but placing high with Ciara and Sinkage were not surprising to me at all. I've also now played as more than half of the entire roster (there are eighteen characters in total), and have found some new potential mains!
I might do a tier list of how good I am as these characters sometime...

Just a small post for anybody that has used my Caleb M.U.G.E.N character.
I am completely open to any suggestions you may have for the next character update, if it's for attacks or animations.
I have barely any followers yet, so I'm definitely gonna see anything you suggest.
Small update with Uta: she has another special move now (and a crouching heavy punch):
It's still missing sound effects (planning on getting SFX from KOF XV for her), and I haven't sorted the damage yet, but it's otherwise going pretty well!
hi! love your neo geo pocket or whatever idr style sprites, but i was wondering if you had other styles too? to clarify this isnt to dunk on the sprites you show off its just that being able to do many styles is always a powerful thing for an artist to achieve

To be honest, I have kind of gotten settled into this NGP style for a while now, so doing any other style doesn't really cross my mind much? I would like to do other styles, but I tend to get intimidated by larger sprites, and I get impatient if I'm working on the same animation for too long – I'm aware this is a problem with myself I need to fix, lol...
In terms of styles I would like to try out; I quite like the sprites of Sonic Battle (I've been playing it quite a bit recently, having a lot of fun with Shadow), so I might try that if any fitting projects come to mind. Larger sprites like CvS and Street Fighter Alpha are quite nice, too, but I feel like I should wait until I'm a bit better before I attempt anything of that size.
As a little bonus, here are the only two projects I could find saved on my phone that aren't in NGP style:


The left is an edit from an NES bootleg of Street Fighter II, where I put Chun-Li in her Alpha design. The right is a Sonic Advance-styled sprite of a gender-swapped Amy Rose, which I made for @theyre-gay-because-i-say-so.

The Zan Evolution Butouden July update came out, so that's pretty much all I've been doing today...
Thought I might share a neat combo I worked out as my main, Ciara Lowell. She's a grappler character with a chain grab, which I always enjoy.
Also the rankings from the four arcade run I've already done today:

For those of you wondering, the Caleb M.U.G.E.N character is very close to initial release, with only on or two animations left to complete.

This is an introduction to my Street Fighter OC, Jane! Jane was intended to be my first M.U.G.E.N character, but I guess I was a bit lazy creating her. Since then, Jane has had a redesign and moveset change, and also no actual sprites. This is not a M.U.G.E.N character announcement, just a post about my OC.
I've already (kind of) said it on my DeviantArt, but I've recently redesigned my KOF OC, Uta!

So if she looks really different to how she did in my previous posts with her (there's only, like, two), that's why.
Random rambling about my thought process below the cut (warning: there are a lot of images & GIFs):
Uta's old design was based off of Yuki, from this bootleg fighting game on the GBC called Queen Fighters 2000. Like Uta, she was a Mai sprite edit, so it was quite easy to make.

It's not the worst design I've ever made (that would probably go to Shun's original design, might share that later), but I felt like it didn't really fit in much with KOF, and it was hard to add in the netting in every sprite (plus I don't think that stuff would be very practical for a ninja? I'm not sure why I did it in the first place...).

This new design makes a lot more sense to me, and I feel like it makes Uta look a lot more unique and different to Mai (which makes sense, as they're not biological sisters). The main inspirations for this design were:



Mai's appearance in Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture (mainly the colour scheme, and the decision to make her ginger).
One of Mai's alternate outfits from King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2 (I forgot which one, though; I've never actually played the game).
Andy Bogard's KOF 2001 design (mostly the black bodysuit, and the pants).

In giving her an outfit with inspiration from both her adoptive sister and brother-in-law, I feel like it makes her fit in more, rather than seeming like a bit of an outsider (which wouldn't be too inaccurate, but still...).

And yes, I will be making a M.U.G.E.N. character of her eventually.

I am still working on my M.U.G.E.N stuff I swear I just can't do it at home bc Fighter Factory doesn't work on laptop for some reason ok byyeeee
Whenever I posted the Caleb character, I was planning to include a little update to Shun to go along with it. Nothing big, just a new target combo and a few tweaks to make other moves function better.
However, today, for whatever reason, I've decided to go through Shun's entire moveset and redo all of her hit/hurtboxes, along with modifying pretty much every move she has in some way.
It probably won't actually change how she plays too much, but I can guarantee that she'd function better than her initial release...

I've been taking a break from making that Raz character for a while now (I've just not been having fun making her sprites, not sure why), so I've been focusing on other M.U.G.E.N projects for the time being. I know I've not been giving that many updates, but I promise they are going well! I've just been forgetting to talk about them, lol...
One of these characters I'm currently working on is actually a collaboration with my brother, @pens-n-pixels! It's one of his Street Fighter OCs, Caleb!

PnP is the one who came up with the character's moveset, and made all of his sprites. I'm just putting the character into code form, and it's going pretty well so far! He's got an interesting style to him, that I'm looking forward to finishing!
