i do that with English all the time especially when imagining having conversations and then I'm all like hell yes that sounds good then it takes me a couple seconds to realise that I'm not gonna have that conversation in english and then I'm disappointed because it's never gonna sound as good in german (sometimes with other languages too but not nearly as much)

So I’m sure citizenship isn’t a huge thing in Camelot. Like, if you’re in Camelot then I’m sure you are considered a person of Camelot unless you’re a noble with a different allegiance or something... HOWEVER, I was recently reminded that I was 13 fucking years old before realizing I was an American citizen and I think it would be hilarious to apply that concept to Merlin.

Merlin: Arthur, I think I’m ready

Arthur: for what?

Merlin: To ally myself with Camelot for good

Arthur: o...kay. Who have you been allied to for the last few years?

Merlin: Essetir?

Arthur: ESSETIR?! TO CENDRED?!

Merlin: I can’t help where I was born, Arthur. Anyways. What do I need to do? Is there a test I need to take? A task?

Arthur, realizing that Merlin has absolutely no idea that he became a citizen of Camelot by default upon entering his household: ....as a matter of fact. Yes, there is. It’s a very long test. Very hard. Have you studied?

Merlin: I...I haven’t. I didn’t realize-

Arthur: Oh, God. Merlin, you haven’t even studied? You don’t stand a chance. Can you even sing our anthem?

Merlin: you have an ANTHEM?!
