I'm Still On The "Dad... Was Right... They Were All... Right About Me... " While Sobbing Will Coming

I'm still on the "Dad... Was right... They were all... Right about me... " while sobbing Will coming out scene and mad bonus if they don't chicken out and include a good old "fag" there like. Ok you can separate your gay character from the homophobia that has shaped him by having other characters deliver it / have it delivered to the face of other characters for so long.

Even the van scene, as defining as it was, was coded and a large section of it was centered around Will's relationship to Mike and what Mike means to him. Will's sexuality reveal not to the audience but to the other characters is absolutely tied to byler but its root has always been Will's "being different", and while his feelings for Mike will probably accompany the coming out to whoever it is, the importance that's been placed in his own queerness and his characteristics means they must take central stage.

Imo there's a huge opportunity to explore targeted homophobia towards Will in his vecna vision via memories or vecna!hallucinations before they inevitably parallel the troy scene/show any kind of actual homophobia to him. This way his hurt over his sexuality can be more connected to the things he was first targeted about as a child other than his hurt over Mike not loving him back, towards which the van scene definitely leaned on more; for his s5 scenes, Mike should be the shorter mention and a non-coded elaboration of his queer experience in his own words should be the focus

hi is this the part you meant with someone saying something about a gay ending? i saw this on a video and it sounds like it could be. creelarke shippers say its subtext about henry being gay, what do you think? patty: it's a sad song, i like the gay ones best. henry: it doesn't have to be sad. you never know the ending till it's sung all through. patty: then let's make it a gay one. henry: sing your own ending.

Hi, I'm so sorry this took me a while to respond to. I saw it when I was out a few days ago and then forgot to go back to it! Yeah that sounds very much like the part I was referring to! Thank you for sharing, I'm relieved I wasn't hearing things lol Idk what creelarke is so I can't comment on that, but sure, it could be subtext for henry's sexuality if it's a conversation between him and patty? I'm not about to label him as straight just because he appeared to be in a hetero r'ship in the play, 'cos that would make me a hypocrite with my reading of Mike Wheeler in the show. But the only reason I personally side-eyed the moment myself was because this was essentially what I heard inbetween the lines: "This [story] seems to be a sad one. I like the gay [stories] best." "It might seem sad now, but it's not finished yet." "Then let's make it gay! That's in our control".

I'd love to think it could be a very sneaky Easter Egg to Stranger Things ending as a whole. It could apply to Henry as well, I have no idea - or to nothing, because like I said in my review, the context of the word 'gay' in the moment meant 'happy'. But it's sus to me because it's not really used in that context for today's audience, and the writer's must be aware of how that sounds. And it just seemed like such a deliberate thing to include when we're heading into Season 5, the ending of the show, which we know is going to have a focus on Will, our canon gay character, in his "coming of age" season. A lot of the GA already assume his story is a sad one. But... it hasn't been "sung all through" yet.

I'm glad that other people picked up on those lines, anyway. I guess we'll have to wait and see ♥

people who assign henry/edward creel/vecna/one evil at birth are so boring to me. all i hear is that they can't stomach discussions around grey morality. boo honestly.

also, notwithstanding the creel family murder (which is 1. partially justified due to virginia's abuse and 2. unreliable due to numerous scenes that were purposefully kept vague and inconsistent by the creators), eleven kills her way out in S1 just like one did in S4??? which technically puts both of them on a near equal playing field, given their background of being child test subjects????

and yet henry is the evil one with no redeeming qualities... make it make sense

no this pattern is interesting to me too

When El does it, and achieves a higher confirmed kill count by age 12 than Henry had before age thirty-two...It's a girlboss moment.

When Henry at most killed Virginia, a direct abuser who was going to have him shipped off to Brenner, Martin fucking Brenner, who he had met before and was actively trying to escape...He's a monster who was born evil and never had any chance at a nice, normal life. We also have exactly zero proof that he had anything to do with Alice's death.

That's the whole point of Nancy's plan to kill him as an adult! He can't fight back when he's trancing someone! He's incapacitated, totally dialed in on the one person he's trancing. Alice was still alive when Victor's trance began. Thus, she was not killed by Henry. It's not physically possible.

Henry's kill count as of age 12 is exactly one person. And that's assuming he killed Virginia at all! The circumstances are so fucked that we can't even say that with 100% certainty.

We reassure El over and over again that she isn't a monster...Because she isn't. She's a child escaping her abusers. Somehow we can acknowledge that about her, but we can't carry over that same attitude for young Henry?

Bullshit.

When El lashes out in fear and kills a bunch of people, she's a superhero and we should be sympathetic. When Henry lashes out and kills one (1) direct abuser...he's a monster.

Make it make sense. Make the math start mathing.

And granted (timeline fuckery aside), adult Henry has a set of actions that end up being quite different from El's in ST1 (i.e. killing the children, which I have my own thoughts about that aren't necessarily relevant here).

But strictly on the basis of killing the guards and orderlies? He was completely justified.

He'd been abused by them for twenty fucking years. We see it happen. We watch him be assaulted and abused by orderlies ON SCREEN.

He deserves to get his pound of flesh from them. He is justified, just like El was justified in killing the orderlies and agents who abused her.

Same scenario. Same actions.
