R6 Character Analysis : Lion
R6 character analysis : lion
A man with simple goals
"confusing what is right and what is easy can lead you down a dangerous path"
Lion's life is all summed up with this one sentence
In case you didn't know his past I recommend you read it on the wiki to get the full picture (and the feels) because his story is long
Unlike other operators lion entered the military out of need, not dedication, not responsibility, not even because he thought it was cool
Lion like any normal person has a limit on how much pressure he can handle, the job pressure is easy but the emotional pressure of social life isn't
We all have a limit in which we begin to think "i don't deserve this" this can lead us to take a more violent approach to things like heated arguments especially if they're about us and how bad we are as a person
Lion's emotional pressure limits is pretty thin compared to his job pressures limit simply because he's trying his best and he unconsciously feels that he needs help
On the surface however, he thinks that he doesn't deserve anything because of his sins and that he should do everything alone, this leads him to avoid asking for help, and his praid/arrogance doesn't allow him to explain himself to others (unless they were friendly like Harry) which leads to conflicts and misunderstandings
His conflict with thatcher wasn't explained at all but what's clear is that lion said something "wrong", it's obvious this thing he said wasn't related to the training otherwise thatcher wouldn't have reacted like. Whatever it was i think it was something that touched thatcher personally but wasn't directed at thatcher himself (it wasn't an insult but rather something morally wrong)
I think it's safe to assume that this incident affect the relationship between the SAS and the GIGN but it doesn't affect their missions
(I'll talk more about it in thatcher analysis)
But it shows that lion has a long way to go
As for his conflict with doc it was already revealed, and it's obvious that lion wasn't mistaken but rather doc was at wrong here but it shows lion is ready to take hard choices even they seemed cruel and he's ready to face the results and hatred and take responsibility but he won't explain himself or apologize for doing what he had to, because he doesn't trust his emotions due to his past experience where he confused right and easy, this time he didn't want to confuse right and safe with right and dangerous. So if his emotions would get hurt or he gets hated for what he had to do, it's a small price (I'll talk more about this conflict in doc analysis because it shows his character very well)
I think that lion doesn't hate doc he just doesn't agree with him and they had a bad start, thankfully Harry is already working on solving this problem. The reason why he didn't do the same thing with thatcher was probably because thatcher is from another unit and his conflict was nothing more than a moment of anger
I think that Harry will succeed in his efforts and i can see lion and doc becoming friends or partners at least who try to make things better and one of the reasons is that they work on similar fields, with the help of twitch and finka they can make it
however i don't see them becoming lovers considering that it'll be weird and lion is religious and has a bad experience, as for doc there's a slight possibility that he's from a Muslim family (there's concept art of him visiting what seems to be a Muslim family)
So if both of them are religious thenĀ I don't think the ship will ever be canon (screw your ships)
Back to the point
It's safe to say that lion feels something whenever he looks at certain people or hear their names
When he sees his his parents he remembers the pain of being kicked out but also the warmth they provide for him now
Whenever he sees his sister he probably remembers the better times of thire childhood
Whenever he sees claire he feels guilt, responsibility and the need to make up for her which is why he was paying child support in the first place
Whenever he sees Alexis (his son) he feels shame and self hatred because he almost killed him, he feels afraid that his son would never love him, that he would hate him and someday throw him out of his life, but most importantly he has a goal and a purpose to get closer to him and he was the first reason he tried to become a better man and he would do anything for this goal because he treasures him. If Alexis said "i love you" then lion would probably cry of happiness from the inside and he would starve for more time with him than ever
Whenever he sees Claire's unknown husband he feels jealously for him taking what's supposed to be his place with his previous love and his precious son. he feels shame but also graduated towards him for taking care of things and he holds no ill will towards him, but it's definitely a very weird relationship of awkward interactions
Whenever he sees doc he feels sorry
Whenever he sees twitch and finka he feels thankful
Whenever he sees montagne and jackal he sees friends and mentors
And rook is rook. No one hate him, everyone loves him, but i can see them becoming friends over music
As for the character that everyone seems to, forget about, Bertrand.
probably the best thing that happened to lion was meeting him
Bertrand met lion in his time of need, he was the one who pointed lion to the right path to try and face his sins and make up for them, without leaving him alone
Without him lion wouldn't have met his son and apologized to Claire. Without him lion wouldn't have survived the depression and loneliness after realizing his mistakes
Without him lion would have probably committed suicide long ago
So whenever lion sees him he sees a lifesaver, a friend, and a teacher in life
He's the one who convinced lion to move forward (and to volunteer)
He's the one who awakened lion's ability and dedication to change and become a better person. Lion probably feels that he owes him everything and that he's the only person he can be honest with about anything (more than Harry)
In summary It's safe to assume that with the help he gets lion will only grow more and become a better person
He'll become the father, he'll become the operator and the teammate that everyone wants to be, he'll become the volunteer who helps those in need, and he'll save lives
These are his goals.
Many thanks for reading
Notes : i feel like i could have done this better, i did lion first because i love him, i bought because of his backstory and tbh and i don't like his gadget that much
