he sways where he stands, staggers, takes a lurching step forward. 

the White Knight tilts his head to the side, watching with beady green eye lights.

“you will not be the end of us.” Bolte snarls, just like he has since he first caught sight of Captain doing the same. behind him, Red is trying to get back to his feet but - five HP and it’s already cut in half five HP and still ready to throw himself into the fight - it won’t come to that.

thin, stringy slips of red magic wrap around Bolte’s fingers, then twist tighter. they dig into the skin, the old cuts, burning hot and heavy, and a bone sword settles in the cusp of his palm.

characters who view themselves as tools/weapons first and people second... characters who martyr themselves for a cause because they think that's the only way they can be worth something... characters who push themselves past their breaking point again and again and again... characters for whom devotion and masochism are inseparable... characters whose self-sacrifice becomes self-annihilation...... what was my point again? i had a point. anyway.

people always tell me “oh but you always reread the same three books” like yeah bitch i stole my personality from them sometimes i need to brush up on the details
