HMO: Bruce Wayne smoked.
After his parent’s deaths, he snuck cigarettes behind Alfred’s back. Sure he got yelled at a lot because of it but it felt too good to quit. He only smoked when he got his hands on some (which was rare) but then boom. High School. Smoking sessions with Harvey? Oh definitely. After training and becoming Batman, he did it less but still occasionally smoked with Harvey.
However, Dick came around and he cut back out of shame. Anytime he smoked it would be alone and he’d immediately shower and brush his teeth so Dick wouldn’t know. Bruce would’ve quit if it wasn’t for the temptation.
But then, Jason comes along. The first time Bruce smoked when he had Jason, he obviously did his routine but Jason somehow sensed it. Smelt it maybe. He found his cigarettes and smoked them and Bruce wanted to die when he realized that it was either brief release but have his new kid slowly killing himself too or stopping entirely.
He quit, but after Jason’s death it was a total relapse and he began smoking again. When Tim came around he decided to quit then too because he knew that Tim knew. He didn’t want another smoker Robin. He didn’t want to have Tim grow into smoking.
Later on, Dick tells him that he always knew but felt like it wasn’t his business to say anything. It sort of broke Bruce’s heart knowing Dick didn’t feel comfortable enough to say anything. This started the thing where if Bruce does something stupid, Dick HAD to tell him.

Jason has a life-sized cutout of Bruce Wayne in his apartment, and he argues with it a hell of a lot. When Dick dropped by one day and saw it, Jason convinced him of how cathartic it was. Dick brushed him off, telling him to find healthier coping mechanisms, only to go out and get one of his own.
