Она почти слышала, как двери ее тюрьмы захлопываются.
Свобода ушла навсегда, теперь ее судьба в чужих руках, и никогда ей не увидеть воли.
В голове ее замелькали безумные мысли о том, как хорошо бы сейчас улететь далеко-далеко. Но она знала, что скрыться невозможно.
Она с улыбкой повернулась к жениху и повторила: «Да, я согласна».
She could almost hear the doors of her prison slamming shut.

Выдающийся негритянский актер Айра Олдридж обладал бешеным темпераментом. Его коронной ролью был Отелло. В финальной сцене он так "накалялся", что у него изо рта шла пена, а глаза наливались кровью. Исполнительницы роли Дездемоны панически боялись играть с ним.
Известный театрал Стахович спросил Олдриджа, как прошли его гастроли в Москве с Никулиной-Касицкой — Дездемоной. Олдридж ответил, что она очень нервничала и добавил: "Все эти слухи сильно преувеличины. Я сыграл Отелло более трехсот раз. За это время задушил всего трех актрис, зарезал, кажется, одну. Согласитесь, что процент небольшой. Не из-за чего было так волноваться вашей московской Дездемоне".

Они вместе встречали каждый день. Он так привык к ней, что и мысли не допускал, что когда-то они расстанутся.
Сегодня утром, уходя на работу, он обласкал её восхищённым взглядом: «До чего же изящна и красива она в этом одеянии! Янтарь на голубом…»
А вечером она неожиданно выскользнула из его рук и… разбилась.
Его любимая чашка.
They met together every day. He was so used to her that he did not even think that they would ever break up.

— Я ещё три дня назад увидела, как те трое, снизу, отправились один за другим, но промолчала… Не хотелось тебя огорчать.
— А на вид крепкие были ребята. Да…
— Знаешь, почему мы все еще держимся?
— И почему же?
— Мы жили не просто рядом, а вместе, как единое целое. Чем только ни била нас жизнь! Всё выдержали, потому что — неразлучны.
— Пожалуй, ты права.
— Поцелуй меня, милый. Теперь прижмись крепко. Ещё сильнее! Ну вот… С тобой мне ничего не страшно даже на самом краю.
Поздняя осень. Голый сад. Лишь на одной яблоне, бок о бок, висели два яблока.
