Young Justice X Reader - Tumblr Posts
Are you taking request for young justice still?
if you are could I request the OG young justice team, if not all then just, Kaldur'ahm with a (gn) Ninja Reader. They grew up in the Ninja clan and are highly skilled. Because the Ninja clan their from specializes in stealth attacks, reader usually doesn't realize people have no idea when they enter a room because they're natural sneaky and quite.
Characters included: Kaldur'ahm / Aqualad , M'Gann M'Orzz / Miss Martian , Conner Kent / Superboy
Pronouns used: None
Relationship: Platonic or romantic, up to you to decide
Note(s) : Yes of course, I wasn't able to do all because I haven't watched it in a while, so have Kaldur, Conner and M'Gann. Sorry it took so long 😭 I procrastinate a lot

Kaldur'ahm / Aqualad

He's so tired man
Bro was trying to chill when you fucking appeared out of nowhere and made him regret being on land
You probably couldn't even tell cause his just eyes widened for a moment before sighing
He doesn't mind too much as long as you try to make him aware
But honestly it's kinda funny so you'll probably continue being sneaky on purpose this time
Kaldur loves your skills as a ninja and appreciates your stealth in missions, but God if he didn't feel his entire body shudder with complete and utter shock
It's rare you're paired with him because stealth tends to be better alone or only talking through coms
M'Gann M'Orzz / Miss Martian

The first time you appeared behind her she screamed and then walked away in complete embarrassment
Now she always has her mind link on with you
But even then, its not enough
Literally cried once after a horror movie marathon, nobody talks about it
You and her go on stealth missions a lot due to her being able to sneak around invisible and you basically being stealthy enough to be considered invisible
Sometimes when you two are feeling funny you'll spook people on your missions before moving away, you get scolded afterwards but it's worth it
Honestly she doesn't mind too much, I think she'd get use to it after a while.
M'Gann will sometimes try pranking you back, so far it's only worked if you're tired.
Conner Kent / Superboy

Straight up punted the fuck out of you the first time while audibly yelling
Conner probably stomped off before coming back and apologising
Probably cried in his room feeling bad tbh
Now whenever you do it he jumps 5 feet in the air like a cat before angrily walking off
Sometimes he does this with enemies, he gets so awkward after it that he just beats them up. They end up worse than if batman found them
Conner tells you half seriously that he doesn't want you to do it publicly, both out of embarrassment and fear he could hurt you on instinct.
You probably try being less quiet like coughing when you enter a room, but it happens occasionally and he might start an argument over it ngl
With how he was in s1, I imagine it'd be like reasoning with a brick wall
Bro is the opposite of stealth in s1 you'd never be paired with this guy
HALLOWEEN SPECIAL
How would some of my favourite characters be if their S/O loves Halloween?

Media Included : Mortal Kombat 11, Insomniacs Spider-Man, Young Justice.
Characters Included : Mileena, Kitana, Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Artemis, Superboy.
Note (s) : I originally had a poll and all of MK11 won but honestly I would've gotten no enjoyment out of writing it, so, have this instead.
Be warned I haven't watched young justice in like a year.
Mileena

Mileena doesn't know what Halloween is, there isn't much of an equivalent in Outworld that would make sense for her to participate in, however, she's definitely interested after learning about it from you. Especially after seeing how excited you are.
After realising she can carve whatever she wants in the pumpkin, she gets very excited. Mileena would most likely carve a 'scary' face, similar to a Tarkatans with the large teeth, but, she isn't the most skilled artist... It ends up looking a bit wonky and more funny than scary.
If she's in a bad mood, she'd probably try to carve Kitana dying, and it would end up more like a blob than anything coherent.
She likes the decorations, and might help put a few up, but prefers them not to be in her way, she will absolutely destroy any fake cobwebs or skeletons in her path.
If you want to stay at home and put on the likes of 'Hocus Pocus' 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' or even horror movies like 'Halloween', she's interested in them all. She especially finds the portrayals of sorcerers to be hilarious and wants to show Shang Tsung how incompetent humans think they are.
Mileena finds horror movies fascinating but sometimes she's very critical of the gore and how unrealistic it is, one time she stormed out of the house because of how horrible a CGI blood splatter was.
She probably won't bother matching costumes or even going in a costume herself, she's just not interested enough for whatever cheap gimmicks Earthrealm's cooked up.
I actually think she'd just go in her regular clothes but without a mask, it's uncomfortable to be seen as scary, but, she doesn't want to wear a ridiculous costume or spend hours walking around in a mask.
Mileena is most excited for the trick or treating itself, the fact you can just go up to people's houses and ask for sweets and people will just give it?? She's so shocked, nothing like that would ever happen in Outworld.
She won't be too smiley until she gets home though, whenever the door opens she's sweating nervously, Mileena almost wishes she brought her mask to hide her face.
She always manages to stay up until everybody else goes home or falls asleep, and carries, she insists you're not walking even if you're not tired at all, you back home, where she finds the pumpkins destroyed and your house covered in toilet paper.
She vows to kill the person who ruined your pumpkins, and probably ends up springing a Halloween massacre for your area.
Kitana

She's definitely heard of Halloween from Johnny or Sonya, but she's never really been able to dress up or be too involved. Kitana has responsibilities in Outworld, and she can't risk them for a holiday, regardless of her desire to participate.
Once she sees how excited you are, however, she decides to make up an excuse to go to Earthrealm, it's only for a few hours, and she's a bit antsy over the decision, but she's doing it for you nonetheless.
Kitana helps you put up the decorations, laughing at how silly some of them look, and she takes great joy in spending some time with you that she usually can't.
Her pumpkin carving skills aren't too bad, she's not some master artist with them, but she can make a mean scary face.
I don't think she'd want to dress up, but she's definitely alright if you want to, she'll share her opinion on your costume and maybe suggest a different one if she thinks it'd fit you better.
She really enjoys things like The Nightmare Before Christmas, wholesome yet with a bit of scary elements thrown in. She especially likes Hocus Pocus when it comes to the family part of it, it's no secret how messed up hers is.
Kitana's amused at how magic is portrayed in both Halloween movies and by certain costumes, she nearly loses it after seeing an old man mask under the 'wizard' title.
Kitana personally doesn't enjoy the gore heavy and over the top violence of horror movies, although, she will admit she enjoys the fight choreography of some of them. She prefers psychological horrors.
Kitana is rather nervous about trick or treating, she loves the idea of the fun and sweet part, but the idea that the stranger could've poisoned the sweets makes her nervous, even if you assure her that the signs are obvious and if there are none it should be safe to consume.
She inspects the sweets around five times before even considering you take a bite.
She looks like some type of bodyguard, following behind you with swift and graceful steps, she lets herself have fun of course, but her guard is always up.
When you both get home, she's very happy to rest with you and sleep, but if duty calls she might have to cut the night short and return to Outworld.
Peter Parker

Peter skips out on a holiday or two sometimes, his identity as Spider-Man is far too important, and Halloween is the one that usually gets skipped. Aunt May never really celebrated it, she usually just left out a bowl of sweets. MJ isn't an avid Halloween person, neither is Harry after he grew up. So, it was a huge surprise at how invested in Halloween you are.
Peter isn't that good of a pumpkin carver, so he typically does the regular 'spooky face' with wobbly lines, it's his favourite and was his go to ever since he was a kid.
He finds matching costumes cute and especially loves dressing up in his old Spider-Man costume and making one especially for you, of course, neither of you include the web shooters and he makes sure to use an old enough suit where there's no tech in it.
Peter's great at hanging up decorations, he has specialised web fluid that can last for a few days or even a week, so, he uses that to his advantage and usually does that along with crawling on the ceiling.
He loved trick or treating as a kid, it was the one time of the year he could dress up and not be a nerd, he and Harry had so much fun together. It's really nostalgic, and sometimes people will point out your costumes, finding it funny that grown adults are going as the city's hero.
He adores trick or treating, it makes him feel like a kid again. Although, unfortunately a lot of crime tends to happen on Halloween, so, sometimes he does have to slip away quickly to punch a few bad guys.
He might check once or twice to see if there's anything wrong with the candy, but besides that he sometimes forgets how deadly some of them can be. He does feel his heart race a bit when you take a bite, only to reveal nothing is wrong, he lets out a huge sigh of relief.
Peter's nervous watching psychological thrillers and ones that use the whole 'creepy kid aesthetic' to its full potential. He's fine with gorey slasher flicks, and even enjoys some of them for the horrible acting and bad effects.
He prefers more kid friendly stuff, like The Nightmare Before Christmas, but he nearly cried watching Coraline for the first time.
Miles Morales

Miles has been a huge Halloween enjoyer since he was a kid, he used to spend hours trying to handmake a costume with his parents help, he misses those days. He's never missed Halloween, or any holiday, but miles has been close a few times.
After he started dating you he realised just how much fun it can be and that he shouldn't sacrifice time with his loved ones, especially not on a day you both love.
Miles, while not exactly having an over abundance of money to do so, will a hundred percent try to hand make costumes for the both of you, with your help of course. Maybe it's something small like Morticia Addams and Gomez Addams, or maybe it's a huge mecha costume, whichever it is, he has fun making and designing the costumes.
He's a master pumpkin carver, give him any image and he can accurately create it in pumpkin form, regardless of whether you're also like that or have trash pumpkin carving skills, he's putting yours together proudly and pointing it out to anybody who sees them.
Miles loves trick or treating, you and him walk around New York apartments for hours and hours getting all of the sweets you can, he even web swings sometimes to try and get as much as possible before Halloween ends.
I don't think he'd think to look for any poison or razor blades in the sweets you two are given, he's heard some stories for sure, but it's never happened anywhere close to him, so he assumes you're both safe.
Like Peter, he can help put up decorations by climbing on walls and ceilings, plus his webs, and so he's a huge help, although he's personally not a fan of any snake based decorations. They creep him out.
While he can handle more scary horror movies, he still reaches for and squeezes your hand whenever a kill scene happens, although, for older ones or newer ones that are bad looking, he prefers to analyse the artistic side of things. Special effects and practical effects are so interesting to him. Not only that, he could spend hours talking about the music and themes of each character or event.
He loves any stop motion, Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, and Corpse Bride to name a few. Not only are they just beautiful, but any bad storylines or things that haven't aged well don't really matter when he's staring at something so pretty.
Artemis

Artemis never had the chance to celebrate Halloween as a kid, she wishes she did because it always sounded so fun, the most she managed to get was her mother putting out sweets for kids in costumes to nab. Some part of her wishes that she was one of them at some point.
When she begins dating you, your interest in Halloween is one she can greatly relate to, perhaps for different reasons, but, it's something shared nonetheless.
Artemis likes the idea of dressing in costumes, it's a quarter of her job so she's used to it by now, but she can admit she feels too childish when she wears a vampire or any other Halloween-esque costume. She thinks you look cute in them, though.
She's used to helping her mother around the house, so when you ask for help putting up decorations she's alright with that, whether or not you can't reach because you're short, you can't do it all on your own, or if you just want to get it done quicker, she'll help you.
Artemis is a decent pumpkin carver, she can make a few impressive faces, but unless she spends hours and hours, she can't do a full body or anything other than a spooky face without it being a little wonky.
She genuinely does enjoy going trick or treating, she can come across a little blank and emotionless when walking around, but she really does feel happy and safe with you. Even if you two are walking alone at night knocking on strangers doors for candy.
She definitely checks every piece for any poison or razor blades, she's not taking any chances with you.
Artemis loves more childish movies, don't tell anybody in the tower though! She especially loves ones like Coraline, she feels really seen and can even relate to her a tiny bit.
She's not a big horror fan, especially not ones that try to make the unsympathetic sympathetic, it's just boring watches to her usually. Gore ones are easier to get through, it's just mindless slashing and bad acting, sometimes they're so bad that it becomes funny though, she enjoys those ones. Artemis isn't the biggest fan of psychological thrillers either, not because they're more scary to her, they're just more uncomfortable.
Superboy

Superboy has most likely heard of Halloween, but never had the chance to participate because... Well, you know. He isn't very interested in it, the costume part, the sweets part, it's not exactly his thing, regardless of if he's tried it before or not.
He's surprised at just how excited you are about Halloween, it's not like he despises the holiday, it just feels so alien to him. Despite that, Conner will help put up decorations in hard to reach places, or if something is heavy, he might grumble about it, but he truthfully doesn't mind.
Well, as said before, he isn't too interested in the costumes. A lot of them are just too silly for him, but maybe with some convincing he could do a matching couples one. He likes when you dress up, though, he thinks you look cute and even funny in some of them.
Conner isn't great at pumpkin carving, he gets frustrated easily and might smash the poor thing, despite that, he may either act like it was on purpose or just hide it from you.
He doesn't enjoy trick or treating, because of his unwillingness to dress up, he's either a guy in a superman shirt who looks like he's about to commit a felony, or a huge, quiet guy in a goofy costume whose fist is always angrily clenched.
He can tell if any sweets are bad, his vision makes it easy, and he will absolutely smack the sweet out of that person's hand and begin yelling at them.
Conner is alright with horror movies, he's not scared by them because he knows they're not real. But, that doesn't mean he likes what he's watching. Most of them are boring or just plain stupid to him. He thinks more kid friendly ones are to his style, they're not overly edgy, funny coming from him, while also not being boring because most kid media is designed to keep a kids attention.
🥺🥺 this is so cute!!!
Deck the halls Pt. 2 (Conner Kent X Male Reader)
Not me editing out the parts where I said I would write smut in this part hehe. I was going too but after the LEGO scene I just couldn't it was too adorable.

I'm writing this at a bus stop, which I will be stuck at for the next 20 minutes, and then stuck on a bus for another 35. I mean, why not write fanfiction while sitting next to a stranger and an old person. Enjoy hehe.
Quick update: the guy behind me is reading this over my shoulder so, uh, you enjoy too.
————————————————————
The words barely left Conner’s lips before you were nodding in a way that said you were a little too desperate. You were desperate though, so.
You struggled to keep yourself contained as you ascended the staircase behind the boy. What was about to happen? A tryst? A menage e tois? You barely knew what those words meant, especially not the French one. Why were you thinking those? Passing by doors to rooms you'd never been in, it was almost like a guessing game. Which room belonged to THE superman, and which room belonged to the equally as famous toilet.
Conner slowly opened the door to his room, most likely to avoid ripping it off of it's hinges. “This is the room the Kent’s let me- I mean, my room”
Conner’s room was practically empty, with only a bed and a small lamp on a desk across the room, and was rather small for both a kryptonian and a house of this scale. You couldn't help but think of Harry Potter and the closet. Speaking of closets.
Conner awkwardly stood there, trying to gauge the emotion on your face, like he was worried you wouldn't approve.
“I like it, seems cozy” Cramped and cozy were practically synonyms anyway, right?
He smiled, before rushing over to the bed, and reaching under it, pulling out a tub of LEGO’s. “Wanna play LEGO?”
You almost giggled, from the absurdity of the situation and the fact one of the most dangerous individuals on earth was playing with LEGO, but seeing the look on his face, you couldn't say no.
And that's how you and Conner wound up on the floor of his room playing LEGO, with you making structurally sound lego towers, and him smashing them down as a makeshift dinosaur or robot rampaged through the ‘city’. You had to admit, it was pretty fun. And he looked like he was having the time of his life.
“So, how long have you been living with the Kent’s” You asked warily, watching as Conner’s eyes looked up from the LEGO’s before snapping back down
“Um, a couple months now.” He looked nervous, like he was hiding something.
“Have they been treating you well?”
“Well, Ma is always nice to me, making sure I finish my plate and picking out church clothes.” His eyes drifted to the door, “But everyone else is still..”
You leaned forward, placing a hand on the boy who was seemingly much more complex then the angry brute you'd heard others whispering about.
“I'm… a clone. Of Clark.” Oh.
I mean, you guessed you could see the resemblance. The raven hair, the chiselled jawline, the intense musculature. But he seemed nothing like Clark. More… real, in a way. Clark seemed so above everything else, like he was a God and as much as he wanted to be human, he was just better. More perfect. Not that he did it on purpose. Maybe it was just your perception of him, knowing that he was Superman and all.
“Not just Clark though, Lex Luthor too. The rich guy and the supervillain trying to destroy Clark.” Conner clearly knew about the conflicting emotions Clark must have over him, with him being both a perversion of his genetic code and partly related to his biggest enemy.
“They all pretend they're ok with it, but they're not. I hear them talk about what to do with me, whether I should be trained or…” He trailed off, but you knew what he meant.
“Well, then they're stupid.” Conner cocked his head.
“If they don't see you for who you are, then screw them. You’re Conner. Not just a clone of Clark.” His expression showed he’d clearly never heard those words, even among the worlds so-called ‘virtuous heroes’.
Unable to find the words, Conner just leapt over and embraced you, crushing the LEGO city you both had created.
“You’re worth more than what others see you as Conner, don't forget that.”
Welcome back to the all loved series of “ waid dream that I turn it to short or long fic’s

Part One
"I don't think I understand," Y/N mused, raising a hand to cut off the woman in front of her. "You think I've been doing what exactly?"
"I don't think anything," Black Canary hissed. She shifted in her seat, kicking one leg over the other and leaning back, almost resembling a queen in her throne. "I know you've been participating in some... unsavory extracurriculars. What you're doing is dangerous, Miss Rosso."
Y/N scowled. "I suppose there's no hiding it, then. And it's just Y/N, thank you very much."
"Fair enough. I can imagine your father plays a part in your actions." Canary raised a brow. "You want to right his wrongs."
"Obviously."
"That is not your job," Canary began, "nor is it even your responsibility."
"No," Y/N agreed, "but it's not like you can criticize my decisions. You're a hero, aren't you? Part of the Justice League and everything. It's not your responsibility to save the world, but you took it on anyway." She shrugged. "I just happen to have a personal reason."
There was a moment of silence as Black Canary sized up the girl before her. She wasn't very tall, nor very short, but even in her oversized sweatshirt and baggy pajama pants, she could make out the muscle Y/N must have accumulated from her nightly crime fighting expeditions.
It had been a week since Canary had found out about the girl. And she was awfully good at protecting her privacy, so she had only located her last night. Dinah prided herself on her stealth skills, so she'd assumed that she could break into the girl's apartment without any difficulty or being noticed. Instead, she found herself forced to navigate several traps and bypass at least three alarm systems, only to find the girl waiting for her in the living room with an extra cup of ramen prepared.
"I'm not causing any problems," Y/N pointed out. "I've done your job when you couldn't. Star City is nothing like Gotham, but I've taken down dozens of criminals you and the Justice League determine too small for your attention." She crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm doing a good job."
Canary chewed the inside of her cheek. "You are. I'm not here to punish you, if that's what you assumed."
Y/N furrowed her brow. "Then what do you want? Also." She gestured to the ramen. "Eat. I made it for you, don't let it get cold."
Canary hesitated, almost doubting the innocence in the girl's tone. Is it poisoned? No... no, I don't think so. She might sound a bit resentful, but she doesn't want to kill or even hurt me. She picked up the cup and slurped up some of the noodles. She hadn't had basic cup ramen in years. I don't think she thinks she's strong enough to take me on.
"It's good," Black Canary admitted. "You clearly don't just eat ramen, that's for sure. You need to be stronger than drugstore noodles can afford you."
"I was strapped for time," Y/N confessed. "You disabled all my traps faster than I expected."
"And you still made food for me. You're a good kid, Y/N. That's why I'm here." Canary set down her cup and leaned forward, clasping her hands together. "I'm here to offer you a deal."
She didn't miss the way Y/N's jaw clenched.
"What is it?"
"How would you like," Canary mused, "to become my protégé? We may not have the same superpowers, but I can train you in terms of combat, stealth, teamwork. You're good at what you do, but there is always room for improvement."
This was followed by silence.
Dinah watched as Y/N raised her chin, looking down at her through her lashes. She seemed to be processing the proposal slowly, like she was chewing on something and was deciding whether she liked the taste or not. She tapped the armrest of her chair and pursed her lips.
"What do you get from this?" she finally asked. "What's the catch?"
"I get a protégé," Canary answered plainly. "You can provide help on any missions I go on. Since I'll have helped train you, we'll work together quite well."
"I can't help you find my dad," Y/N disclosed. "I won't help you either. I don't know where he is, and I don't want to know."
"Luckily," Canary replied, "that wasn't even part of the deal. I don't particularly care about locating Ramsey Rosso."
"He can die in a ditch for all I care," Y/N spat.
Canary pondered this for a moment. "Alright. If I or the League apprehends him, or if we get any information about him, we'll inform you, but you decide whether you get more involved than that."
Y/N nodded firmly. "Good. Then I accept."
Dinah smiled at that. She extended her arm, offering Y/N a handshake.
"It's a pleasure doing business with you, Y/N." She smirked. "Or should I call you Bloodlust?"

Prologue Part Two
"Well," Y/N sighed. "This doesn't look too hot."
Icicle Junior had leapt down from the posts of the bridge and had created a steep ramp in the middle of the road, sending cars flying. He threw his head back and laughed manically as the civilians swerved to try and avoid the ice.
Y/N rushed towards the cars as they flew through the air. She heard people's screams from within and ran as fast as she could, whipping out her knife and slashing her palms open. She felt the blood gush onto her skin and shouted, "STRONG!" as she caught the car midair and lowered it to the ground as gently as she could before moving onto the next one.
"Finally!" Junior shouted, noticing her. "I was wondering what a guy had to do to get a little attention around here!"
He lurched towards Y/N, only to be thwarted by an arrow piercing the back of his shoulder. Several more forced their way into his wall of ice.
Y/N scoffed and pressed down on the microphone of her earpiece. "Took you long enough."
"Yeah, yeah, shut up," Roy Harper grouched. "I don't see you fighting Junior."
"Civies are more important than villains," Y/N mused. She stepped a bit farther from Icicle Junior as the arrows began to beep, indicating that they were armed with explosives. "That's my motto, Speedy."
The blasts went off, and Junior grunted in pain as his wall broke apart. He fell back and snarled up at where Speedy and Green Arrow stood atop the bridge, their next arrows prepped and ready.
Junior summoned massive clumps of ice on his arms, then roared with effort as he chucked them up at the two archers.
"Junior's doing all this for attention?" Roy demanded. He let out another explosive arrow.
"I know," Y/N grumbled. "It's odd." She rushed at Junior, bloody hands extended, and ordered, "BURN!"
"Oh, no, you don't!" Icicle Junior leapt back, narrowly dodging Y/N's hands, which had started to smoke with heat. "Nobody told you, pretty girl? Ice and fire don't mix!"
He tossed several spikes of ice at her, but Y/N simply smacked a couple out of the way and they turned to puddles at her touch. The rest embedded themselves in the ground, and Y/N kept running.
Meanwhile, Roy and Oliver had made their way down to the street, and were firing off more arrows at Junior as he attempted to dodge each of Y/N's attacks.
"I'm telling you now," Roy stated. "This little distraction better not interfere."
Icicle Junior saw the arrows coming and quickly put up a frozen shield all around him. The explosive arrows made a hole in his barrier, and Y/N began to punch through the ice as well. Her burning blood splattered across the ice, reducing it to water in seconds.
Trapped, Junior threw one last attack. He punched the air in Speedy's direction and kicked at Y/N, sending massive blasts of sharpened ice crystals at them both.
Y/N ducked out of the way, but felt some of the ice pierce her abdomen as she tried to escape the blast. Pain shot through her body and she yelped.
"HEAL!" she commanded, feeling the cuts on her hands seal quickly. The wound from being impaled began to patch itself up, a bit slower than her hands.
Roy, however, practically smirked as he jumped over his attack, pulling an arrow from his quiver and releasing it mid-air. The arrowhead slammed into Junior's chin hard, knocking him unconscious.
Green Arrow looked down at their adversary and chuckled. "Kid had a glass jaw!"
"Hilarious," Speedy said quickly. "Can we go?"
"Wow, such patience," Y/N teased, throwing her arm around his shoulders. "It's almost saint-like."
"Can you blame me?" Roy asked, quirking a brow at her. "Today's the day."
"That it is," Black Canary agreed as she pulled her motorcycle up to them. "Y/N, you good?"
"Peachy." The girl tapped the mended skin of her abdomen, feeling the newly formed flesh. "No more injuries. I may need a snack on the way, though."
"That's good." She tossed a helmet to the girl. "Get on and grab a bar. You don't want to be late, do you?"
The Hall of Justice was not the main base for the Justice League. Y/N had known that since Canary had elected to go off on a solo mission for a month, leaving Bloodlust to work with Green Arrow and Speedy. After a particularly grueling patrol, Oliver had invited the two of them to his house where he proceeded to patch them up, get drunk, and reveal the truth about the Justice League's headquarters.
"You see," he'd mumbled, "the Hall is just a fro-hic!-a front. We used to be at Mount Justice but then-hic!-our enemies found out about it." He'd spread his arms and eyes wide, looking absolutely scandalized. "Can you bel-hic!-believe that?" He'd shaken his head and returned to his bottle. "I can't believe that. How'd they-hic!-find us? I don't know."
Y/N had met Roy's eyes, sending him a silent question:
Do we ask more questions?
Roy had answered by turning to Oliver, his lips pursed in thought. "So, um. Where is your headquarters?"
"Mm." Oliver had lifted a hand and pointed to the ceiling. "The-hic!-Watchtower." He'd nodded firmly. "It's-hic!-in space. A satellite." Then he'd smiled softly. "Lovely view."
And so Y/N knew they were being played when Martian Manhunter and Red Tornado greeted her and the rest of her colleagues.
"Robin, Speedy, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Bloodlust," Manhunter listed off, "welcome. You now have unlimited access to the gym, our fully stocked galley, and of course..." He trailed off as the doors to the library opened up. "Our library."
"Make yourselves at home," Flash offered, gesturing to the armchairs scattered about near the large computer screens beside the Zeta tubes on the far side of the library.
Robin immediately flopped into one seat, as did Kid Flash. Aqualad instead gestured for Y/N to take the remaining chair, and she did with a polite smile, kicking one leg over the other. Speedy rested his hand on the back of her chair, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"Don't tell me," he whispered, barely audible to anyone but Bloodlust, "this is the end of the tour."
"It better not be," Y/N hissed back.
But much to her disappointment, their mentors huddled close together, physically cutting the protégés out of the conversation even if they could still hear.
"Quick debrief to discuss the coincidence of four ice villains attacking on the same day," Batman explained, turning his head back to the sidekicks. "We shouldn't be too long."
With that, the adults turned to the Zeta tubes. Batman typed in his command into the computers, and the tubes whirred to life.
"Recognized: Batman, 0-2," the automated voice rang out. "Aquaman, 0-6. Flash, 0-4. Green Arrow, 0-8. Black Canary, 1-3. Martian Manhunter, 0-7. Red Tornado, 1-6."
"That's it?" Roy demanded, standing up straight. "You promised us a real look inside! Not a glorified backstage pass!"
"It is the first step," Aquaman replied calmly. "You've been granted access few others get."
"Oh, really?" Bloodlust growled. She gestured up to the windows, outside of which several civilians watched with cameras flashing. "Who cares which side of the glass we're on? This is insulting."
"Y/N," Canary began, stepping closer, "I understand your frustrations. Both of you," she added, nodding to Roy. "But you need to be patient."
"Patient?!" Y/N scoffed.
"What we need is respect," Roy scowled, crossing his arms over his chest. He looked to Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash, who seemed appalled at the outburst. "They're treating us like kids. Worse... like sidekicks. We deserve better than this!"
But to Y/N and Roy's shock, none of them said anything. Then it hit her.
They don't know about the Watchtower, do they?
"You're kidding, right?" Roy seethed. "You're playing their game?! Why?!"
"Wait, Roy." Y/N tried to reach out for him, but Speedy shrugged her hand away.
"Today was supposed to be the day! Step one in becoming full-fledged members of the League!" Roy shouted.
"Well," Kid Flash muttered, "sure. But I thought step one was a tour of HQ?"
"Roy, they don't know," Y/N said softly, her anger slowly ebbing away.
Roy just leveled her with a cold look. "Then it's about time they learn." Then he turned back to the other protégés. "I bet they never told you, huh?"
Y/N didn't miss the way Oliver stiffened, nor the way Dinah's head shot over to him, the unmistakable air of fury about her.
"This place," Roy began, "the Hall of Justice, isn't the real thing. It's a false front for tourists and a pit stop for catching zeta beams to the real thing; an orbiting satellite called the Watchtower."
Batman, Aqualad, and Flash all rounded on Green Arrow. Canary's fingers twitched, like she was seriously considering strangling the man.
Oliver sighed and raised his hands in surrender. "I know, I know, but I thought maybe we could make an exception!"
"And you told Y/N, too?" Dinah growled. "Without my permission?"
"He didn't even tell us on purpose," Y/N reported. "He was drunk."
"Regardless, you are not helping your cause here, lass," Aqualad said. He tried to step closer to Y/N and Roy. "Stand down, son, or—"
"Or what?" Roy interrupted him furiously. "You'll send me to my room? And I'm not your son! I'm not even his," he snarled, turning to Oliver. "I thought I was his partner. But not anymore."
Y/N froze. "Roy, what—"
But he plucked his cap off of his head and dashed it to the ground. He turned his back to the Justice League, and shook his head disapprovingly at the protégés, who sat in stunned silence.
"I guess they're right about the three of you," he said coldly. "You're not ready. C'mon, Bloodlust."
But Y/N didn't move. She stood still as the world seemed to pause around her. She felt the piercing eyes of Dinah on her back, the bated breath of Roy before her, both eagerly awaiting her decision.
And what would her decision be?
They don't fully trust me, she noted. The League, at least. I'm only sixteen, I don't know my way around this line of work as well as I act like I do. Of course Dinah didn't want me finding out about the Watchtower. I could never make it on my own at this level. Petty thieves are one thing, but now the world associates me with Justice League-level threats, and I'm just not there yet. Not by myself.
But with Roy? I wouldn't be alone, I'd have someone with the same level of training as I. He trusts me, he's shown that time and time again. We're friends. He's my best friend.
But Canary—Dinah—she's like an older sister to me. Without her, I'd still be working three jobs to barely be able to support myself. I'd be broke and alone and I would never have made it this far.
What do I do?
"I..." Y/N swallowed the lump in her throat. "I'm sorry, Roy. But I'm staying with Canary for now."
Roy turned to face her, eyes wide. There was a glimmer of rage in his eyes, mixed with a twinge of hurt. His jaw loosened as he stared deep into her eyes.
"You're joking."
Silently, Y/N shook her head. For the first time in the years she'd known Roy Harper, she had never had him look at her this way. It stung in a manner she didn't know was possible.
"No." Y/N stood her ground. "I-I'm going to stay. With Canary. And them," she added, waving vaguely at the three boys watching this unfold. "I'm not confident in my ability to go off on my own, Roy. I-I don't doubt you. But I'm not strong enough yet."
There was a moment of silence.
"Fine," Roy whispered. "I can't say I'm not surprised. But it does hurt."
And with that, Roy stormed out of the room.
His absence left a bitter taste in Y/N's mouth. She kept her eyes on the doors, even as behind her, a notification alarm went off and the image of Superman projected onto the screen. She kept her eyes on the doors as Zatara, too, joined the call. And she kept her eyes on the doors as Canary walked up to her and placed a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"I know it hurts, Y/N," she whispered, "but you did the right thing."
"It doesn't feel like it," Y/N replied in the same hushed tone, her voice cracking at the end.
"Hm."
"So..." Kid Flash started once the heroes had Zeta'd away to handle the threat Zatara had warned them of. "Are you okay?"
Y/N almost laughed at the question. "Do I look like I'm okay, KF?"
"Right, stupid question, sorry."
Y/N nodded.
Aqualad sighed heavily. "My King, I thought he trusted me. And yet... what else are they not telling us?"
"In Arrow's defense," Robin said, "Bloodlust did say he was intoxicated. But I've got a better question. Why didn't you leave with Speedy, Blood? And why didn't we?"
Y/N did not respond. Instead, after a beat of quiet, Aqualad looked up with a frown.
"What is Project Cadmus?"
"Genetics lab," Y/N replied swiftly. "Based here, in D.C. Don't know much else."
"Well!" Robin stood and cracked his knuckles before marching over to the computer. "Let's see what else we can find out."
"Access denied," the computer replied as Robin punched in some codes.
"Ha! Wanna bet?" Robin smirked and his fingers flew over the keyboard again. Soon, he managed to tear down the encryptions on the file.
"Whoa..." KF mused. "How are you doing that?"
"Same system as the Batcave," Robin replied. He pressed one last key, and the computer screen switched to a file titled 'Project Cadmus.'
"Access granted."
"We can see that," Y/N whispered, turning to see the screen. She skimmed the text, then shook her head. "Yeah, that's all they've got. Genetics lab in D.C."
"But if Batman's suspicious, maybe we should investigate?" Robin prompted.
"Solve their case," Aqualad translated, "before they do."
"We'll get in so much trouble," Y/N pointed out.
"Not like you're not used to that," Robin fired back. "Don't think I haven't seen your file, Bloodlust."
Y/N glared at him. "Alright. I might be fine. But you?"
"I stand with Bloodlust," Aqualad said. "They told us to stay put."
"For the blotting out the sun mission," Robin stated. "Not this."
"Wait!" KF cut in, raising a hand to stop them. "Are you guys going to Cadmus? Because if you're going, I'm going."
"Just like that?" Aqualad seemed surprised. "We're a team on a mission?"
Y/N chewed her lip. "I'm still not certain about this. But..." She turned to the screen, looking long and hard at the Cadmus logo. "I'll admit. Canary and I were worried about Cadmus. Have any of you guys heard of the legend?"
"Yes," Aqualad replied. "The Cadmus of myth created a new race by planting dragons' teeth into the ground."
"Yeah. We were worried that this Cadmus may be more like their namesake than they say," Y/N said. "Like, their genetic experiments may verge into illegal territory."
"I see..."
"Great!" Robin clapped his hands together. "I mean, not great, but great! That gives us another reason to check it out for ourselves! C'mon, Bloodlust! If they're doing what you suspect, we could bring them to justice. Our mentors can't blame us for that."
"They are all about justice," KF mused.
Finally, Y/N heaved a sigh. "You're not going to stop trying to convince me, are you?"
Robin just grinned.
"Fine. Fine." Y/N raised her hands in surrender. "But I'm only consenting to reconnaissance. We go in, collect information, and we get out."
KF and Robin exchanged giddy smiles.
Then Robin turned to Y/N, a sly gleam in his eyes. "Ready to be whelmed?"

The fire is still burning bright when the four of them arrive at Cadmus.
The fire brigade was busily attempting to put out what flames still remained, as well as trying to rescue the scientists and workers who were in the building.
"STAY PUT," a firefighter ordered through a megaphone. "WE WILL GET YOU OUT!"
That was the last thing Y/N heard them say before suddenly the ground shook with the weight of a loud explosion from within the laboratory. She saw the impact blow two of the men in lab coats out the window and into the air.
"KF, go!" she shouted, and she didn't need to tell him twice.
In a blink of an eye, Kid Flash raced towards Cadmus and ran up the steep face of the building, catching the poor scientists before they could meet an untimely demise. His momentum led him to speeding up to the roof, where he deposited the scientists before he tripped and fell.
"Shoot!" he managed to yelp, before quickly finding purchase on the windowsill. "Oh, thank god."
"It's what's-his-name!" one of the firefighters exclaimed. "Eh... Flash Boy!"
Robin snorted.
"It's KID FLASH!" KF grumbled. "Why is that so hard?"
"He's soooo smooth, isn't he?" Robin mused as he, Aqualad, and Bloodlust ran up to the building.
"Shut it, Rob," Bloodlust snarked. She grabbed her knife and sliced her palms and the soles of her feet. Then she lunged up at the side of the building. "STICK!" Her hands and feet stuck strongly to the concrete, and she began to climb up like a spider towards KF. "Hold on, buddy."
"Yep!" KF replied. "Kinda all I can do at the moment!"
In a couple seconds, Bloodlust crossed the building and arrived just before KF's grip could falter completely. She grabbed his wrist, and he clung to her arm fast, and she hauled the two of them into Cadmus through the open window.
"Must they always run ahead?" Aqualad muttered as he watched. He sighed. "We need a plan—"
But then he turned, and found Robin, too, had disappeared from his side. Instead, he saw the youngest of them all running up the fire truck ladder before grabbing onto an unused hose and using it like a rope to swing himself into the window as well.
Aqualad sighed. "Of course."
He hurried over to the fire trucks, right beside the firefighters still trying to hose down the fire.
"I need to borrow that!" he quickly warned, before he pulled his two Atlantean weapons from their sheaths and redirected the water from the hose to propel himself into the air, up to the roof, where the two scientists remained. "Step aboard. Now."
The men didn't hesitate. Aqualad landed first, as he set foot on the windowsill his friends had entered through, then lowered the scientists down the ground.
"Finally," Bloodlust called as Aqualad entered the building.
"I appreciate the help," he sarcastically replied.
"Hey, you handled it!" Robin protested, typing away at one of the computers he'd opened. "Besides. We're here to investigate. Poetic justice, remember?"
"Yeah," Y/N noted. "Investigate. KF," she added sternly, leveling the redhead with a look as he made shadow puppets using the light of Robin's screen.
"Sorry, sorry," Kid Flash mused in a very unapologetic tone. He glanced back to see Bloodlust was no longer looking, then resumed his shenanigans with a silent snicker.
"Robin," Bloodlust called, "found anything?"
"No, not much yet," the Boy Wonder replied. "Check some of the physical files and stuff, might be something there."
"Got it." She marched over to another desk and plucked the papers off of it, struggling to read the contents in the minimal light. She found notes on different DNA samples the lab had been given, most likely via ancestry tests and the like. One paper had, in bold red letters at the bottom, PATERNITY TEST NEGATIVE. Y/N set that paper aside and kept looking.
Suddenly, she heard the familiar ding! of an elevator, and frowned. She looked up to see Aqualad had gone off, and KF was following, and so she did the same.
She found the two boys standing at the mouth of a hall leading to an elevator shaft.
"There was something in the..." Aqualad muttered.
KF frowned. "Elevators should be locked down."
"Well, this one isn't," Bloodlust replied, stalking over to it. She heard Robin's footsteps as he followed. "That's suspicious. Rob, is this what I think it is?"
"This is wrong," he agreed, pulling up his holographic screen to search his archives for a confirmation. "Thought so. This is a high-speed express elevator. It doesn't belong in a two-story building!"
"Unless the building isn't just two stories," Bloodlust realized. She touched the doors and frowned. "Aqualad, you said you saw something enter the elevator?"
"Something that also doesn't belong here," he said.
He stepped up to the doors and gestured for Bloodlust to step aside. When she did, he placed his hands on the gap between the doors and pried them open with a shout.
The rest of them clambered beside him and gazed down at the elevator shaft. It stretched downwards for far longer than a supposed small-scale genetics laboratory should require.
"And that's why they need an express elevator," Robin quipped.
He pulled his grappling hook launcher out of his pocket and fired it into the ceiling of the shaft. Then he leapt into the shaft and continued to fall and fall until his line eventually came to an end at just around a floor labeled SB 25.
"I'm at the end of my rope," he muttered, a soft shock in his tone as he swung over to the door of the elevator. He quickly sidestepped until he found a decent spot to sit, then produced his screens again.
Aqualad came down next, followed by Bloodlust and then Kid Flash.
"I knew something was off with this place," Bloodlust hissed, touching the cold metal of the door again. "Not only is this an express elevator; these doors are heavily reinforced. They're probably not indestructible, but most definitely bulletproof. And I can feel it vibrating. Robin, these have tech behind them. Passcodes."
"On it," the Boy Wonder replied. "Bypassing security... there. Go."
Aqualad didn't miss a beat. He tore these doors open too, then the four of them slipped inside quickly. They found themselves, wide-eyed, in another enormous hallway. The lights were a deep red, the walls and ceiling and floor a murky black. Panel upon panel of black metal ran down the hall, giving the room a strange aura about it.
"Welcome to Project Cadmus," Robin announced.
Kid Flash wasted no time in rushing again. Aqualad tried to grab him to stop him, but the boy was far too fast. He sped ahead, only to severely underestimate his speed and fail to smoothly as he neared the end of the hall. He tripped and skidded across the floor, grunting in pain.
And then there was a thud. A heavy, scarily close weight dropping beside him, and KF opened his eyes as a strange, elephant-sized creature lifted its foot and began to lower it right over him.
Luckily, as per his powers, KF was more than fast enough to get out of the way of the herd of... creatures? As he stepped back and rejoined his friends, who were now in the hall with him, he struggled to understand what he was looking at.
The creatures were enormous. They had gravelly gray skin with strange red markings and pale underbellies and curved tusks emerging from the sides of their fanged mouths. Their eyes were a deep red and their faces seemed curved in permanent snarls. Bloodlust swore one of them met her gaze as it passed. They roared and blew steam from their nostrils, the heat so intense it was nearly disorienting.
"What are those?" Bloodlust asked in a hushed whisper, only for her eyes to then catch a glimpse of yet another anomaly. "Huh?!"
Seated in a sort of crouched position on the top of the monster was a tiny creature with beady red eyes and markings to match the bigger creature over its own cool gray skin. There were hard-looking lumps on their knees and curved appendages coming from the sides of its face. As the monsters passed, the tiny creature's horns began to glow a bright red.
Y/N's heart skipped such a long beat it might as well have stopped. There was this strange sensation in her body as she met the goblin-creature's gaze; a tingling which started at the top of her head and trickled pleasantly down to the tips of her bare toes. She was always aware of the blood in her body thanks to her metahuman powers but suddenly her understanding of it all was... heightened? Was that the right word? She was hyperaware of the beat of her heart, of the rush of her bloodflow, of the—
"BLOOD!"
Y/N jumped. "What?!"
Kid Flash was standing right next to her, his hand on her shoulder, a concerned look in his eyes.
"Are you okay?" he asked. "You sorta zoned out for a second."
"I..." Y/N took a shaky breath, then frowned. Why was her breathing so heavy now? "Sorry, I just... I don't know." She put her hand to her chest. "My heart feels like it's going supersonic right now. It... it must be the shock, I guess."
Robin didn't look convinced. "Doubtful. Are you feeling alright?"
"Yeah," Bloodlust assured him. "I'm okay. Um. What were those?"
Aqualad shook his head. "We do not know. But this is proof that Batman, Black Canary, and you were right. Cadmus is keeping far too many secrets."
"Well?" Robin prompted. "We're here now. Might as well uncover a couple more."
Y/N frowned. "Robin, I said only reconnaissance."
"C'mon!" KF protested. "Blood, we're already here. We can't exactly leave now! You can't say you're not curious."
This is a bad idea, Y/N noted. She glanced at her friends' faces, their looks of hope for her to agree with them (even in Aqualad's gaze, surprisingly). But I am intrigued by all of this. What were those things? Can we find that out? And not be caught by our mentors?
"Fine," she amended, waving KF away from her face. "Fine, fine. But if things go south, I'm calling Arrow."
"What?!" KF demanded.
"Hey, better him than Bats, right?" Y/N reminded him. "And he can help keep Canary from killing me."
"It's a deal," Robin said, cutting off Kid Flash before he could get annoyed. "If stuff hits the fan, you can call GA."
"Good." Y/N nodded. "Now. Where do we start?"
They were shocked upon opening the first vault, which really didn't bode well.
Robin found a bit of difficulty in hacking open the vault, which he was initially frustrated by.
"That's a first," he grumbled. "Hold on."
There was no need to hold on, however, because he managed to crack the code five seconds later. With a satisfying click and hiss, the vault doors slid opened.
"Okay..." Robin muttered, looking into the vault. "I am officially whelmed."
Inside the vault was column after column of cylinder-shaped semi-transparent containment chambers. Within each chamber was yet another unidentifiable organism with similar characteristics to the giants and gremlins from earlier. At the center of the room was an energy of sorts; a buzzing, bright blue ball of something, flashing rapidly as it drew power the containment chambers.
"They're... they're living batteries," Bloodlust realized.
Kid Flash marched up closer to the chambers. "This is how they hide this massive underground facility from the world! The real Cadmus isn't on the grid! It generates its own power with these... things." He placed his hands on his hips. "It must be what they're bred for."
Aqualad turned to Bloodlust. "You were right, my friend. They truly live up to the legend of their name."
Bloodlust nodded silently.
"So Cadmus creates new life," Robin noted. He marched up to the blue sphere of power, to the little control panel at the base of the structure, and connected his own monitor to the controls. "Let's find out why."
Y/N saddled up beside Robin and read his screen over his shoulder. Her eyes fell on paragraph after paragraph of scientific terminology and lab reports.
"They call them Genomorphs," Robin narrated. "Whoa! Look at the stats on these things!" He tapped on the image of the giant creatures from earlier, opening up a window with a characteristic breakdown of the organism. "Super strength, telepathy, razor claws—these things are living weapons!"
"They're engineering an army," KF muttered. "But for who?"
"Wait." Robin leaned forward and tapped on one of the files. "There's some other stuff. Project Kr and... ugh." He shook his head. "The file's triple encrypted. I can't—"
"DON'T MOVE!"
The four of them whirled around at the sudden shout, eyes wide and hands clenched into fists. Rushing towards them, a group of growling Genomorphs at his heels and shoulder, was... was that Guardian?!
"Wait!" he shouted, stopping dead in his tracks as he scanned the faces of the teenagers. Recognition flashed in his eyes. "Robin? Aqualad? Kid Flash? Bloodlust?"
"Hey, at least he got your name right," Robin teased KF before he continued trying to hack into the files.
"I know you," Aqualad spoke up. "Guardian. A hero."
"I do my best," Guardian humbly said.
"What are you doing down here?" Bloodlust demanded. "And why've you got those Genomorphs with you?"
"I'm Chief of Security," Guardian explained. "You're all trespassing. But we can call the Justice League, figure this out."
"You think the League is going to approve of you breeding weapons?!" KF fired back.
"Weapons?" Guardian questioned. "What're you... what am I..."
But he was cut off as the Genomorph on his shoulder turned to him, its horns glowing red. Y/N, too, staggered back, suddenly overcome with a strange urge; although, to do what, she was unsure.
Guardian pressed a hand to his head, groaning in discomfort. But then he opened his eyes again, a glimmer of determination in his eyes, and he looked back at the protégés. "Take them down hard! No mercy!"
Bloodlust was the first to act. She slipped her knife from its sheath and slashed at her palms, allowing the stray drops of her blood to fall.
"SMOKE!" she ordered, and her blood erupted into billowing red smoke.
Robin was quick to take advantage and produced his grappling hook launcher again. He fired it up onto the support beams overhead, then leapt up, allowing the wire to carry him to brief safety.
The Genomorphs advanced, slashing through the smoke and snarling; but their vision was obscured. Bloodlust took full control of the smoke and concentrated it around the eyes of the Genomorphs, blinding them but allowing her and her friends full visibility.
One came too close for comfort, and she lunged at the monster, letting the blood on her palms touch its skin.
"BURN!"
Instantly, the Genomorph let out a high-pitched, agonized shriek as its flesh began to burn and boil. It fell to the ground, and Y/N moved on to the next enemy combatant until she heard the electric crackling of Aqualad's weapons and followed the sound. She saw him knock down Guardian, and she ran alongside him and KF to escape the vault.
They booked it as fast as they could, staying out of reach of the Genomorphs by just a hair. Alarms began to blare, sending waves of pain through Bloodlust's head, but she kept sprinting until she found Robin, busily hacking away at the elevator. KF ran ahead, seemingly scolding him, until the elevator door opened and they rushed inside. Bloodlust quickly followed.
"You couldn't wait for us?" she panted, turning to Robin with a glare.
"You made it!" Robin grinned. "No need to complain!"
The growling of the Genomorphs grew closer, and Y/N looked up and yelped, pushing herself against the side of the elevator just in time to allow Aqualad to jump into the shaft. The doors shut behind him, trapping them inside.
"Okay, good," Bloodlust sighed. She stood and dusted herself off, then commanded her hands to heal. "Now, we leave."
But the floor level display continued to increase. They were going deeper into the sublevels.
"We're headed down?" Aqualad demanded.
"Dude!" KF turned to Robin. "Out is up!"
"Excuse me?" Robin frowned. "Project Kr? It's down, on sublevel 52."
"This is out of control," Aqualad protested. "Perhaps... perhaps we should contact the League."
"On it," Bloodlust began, but before she could reach her communications device, Robin grabbed her wrist. She leveled him with a wide-eyed glare. "Explain yourself or I will cut off your hand, Robin."
"Look, Blood, I think you're going to want to see this stuff," he implored. "Trust me."
"You promised that I could call Arrow!" Y/N reminded him. "Make good on your word!"
But then the elevator dinged open, and soon Y/N was too shocked by what she saw to even remember to call Oliver.
The hall—if it could even be called that—was strange, red, and flesh-like in appearance. Glowing blue pustule-esque structures jutted out from the wall, emanating ominous light.
"What is this place?" Bloodlust whispered.
Robin ran ahead.
"No!" Bloodlust reached for him, but he was already too far. "No, I don't like this at all, guys."
"Well, we are already here," KF tried to convince her, before quickly shutting up because Bloodlust gave him such a cold look he turned away. He elected to run after Robin.
Aqualad sighed heavily. "I will go with them. If you wish to stay back, that is your decision."
Y/N wanted to fall to her knees and kiss his feet in thanks. She hated this feeling of being here. The air was thicker, the walls looked alive, it was unnatural, unreal in all the worst ways.
But then Robin's words came back to her:
Look, Blood, I think you're going to want to see this stuff. Trust me.
"N-no." Bloodlust swallowed her nerves. "I'll come with you."
Aqualad hesitated. Then he offered her a gentle smile, and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"That is quite brave of you, my friend," he assured her.
Y/N nodded. "Thanks."

Working on my homework as usual, my hair pushed back and out of my face, I sigh trying to focus. Rolling my shoulders, leaning back into my chair, slightly rolling away from my desk. School was pulling too much mentally and I was getting more and more tired by the day. And to go with that I also my hero life to throw into the mix and sleep was almost none existed. Maybe I should ask for a break from the hero stuff or I just need to push through it all, maybe college is suppose to be this hard... A knock on the door made me snap out of my own thoughts, standing from the chair and opening the door.
"Hello Kaldur."
The tall water-bearers handler was standing in front of me with a soft smile on his face. He is my best friend, the one I work with the most and he would always turn to me if he needs a quiet space. Feeling his hand come in contact with my shoulder, making me slightly jump. I had spaced out and my eyes drifted off to over his shoulder. Slightly shaking my head, I looked back up at him.
"Sorry, my head has been full with collage and some of the hero work we have been doing the last couple of weeks."
"It sounds like you need a break dear friend."
Smiling, the sound of a break does sound amazing. Sighing looking over to my laptop the work still on my screen. But I can't there is just too much to still be done and I have to finish it I can't just keep dancing around it. there is just too much I have to do, college is really fucking me over. Looking back over to Kaldur I shook my head, an apologetic smile on my face.
"I can't Kladur, I have too much I still need to have done by tomorrow. The teachers weren't as night as I thought as they have us so much homework. I'm really sorry, I wish I could join you to do something fun."
Kladur shook his head this time, seemingly disagreeing.
"Nope, you need that break, how about we go take a swim? It might not be perfect weather outside but it is your perfect swimming weather. Come on it could help you relax."
A defeated sigh left my lips, he was right, I do need a break. Waving at him, he grins, moving to sit on my bed as I moved over to my closet and pulling out my swimming clothing. Changing in my closet, I picked up a beach towel, walking back over to Kladur. Beach towel around my waist, we took off to the back door. Swimming was a thing me and Kladur would do from time to time, mostly a day after a big mission to help our minds relax. Leaving the towel inside by the door.
I playfully shoved Kladur a side rushing to the edge of the platform. Jumping I waved my hands as I gave myself a set of gills with my magic, the water enveloping me quickly. Letting me sink down, a grin on my face. Seeing Kladur quickly joining me, holding out his hand for me to take. Grabbing hold of it, we took off to the deeper parts of the ocean. We explored for some time, I always learned so much from these swims. Kladur always willing to explain anything I wanted to know, I could always see and hear the pride coming from him when he talked about underwater life. He had promised me a few months ago that he would show me Atlantic one day, of course I couldn't wait to see it but I told him that he should pick a day.
Seeing on the surface that the sun was setting and meaning for me to return to my work, we swam back. With the help of Kladurs powers, we were lifted back onto the platform. Unknow to me and Kladur, my best friend Klarion came looking for me, finding me outside drying my hair. Klarion was staring as water dripped down my neck, taking a deep breath before he disappeared. Feeling a shiver do down my spine I looked over where I thought I felt someone but seeing no one I shook my head and returned inside with Kladur, towel wrapped back around my waist.
"Had a nice swim?"
Seeing Megan standing there with a smile on her face, holding a plate with cookies in her hand.
"Always, may I?"
Smiling she held out the plate to us, the both of us reaching for one. Thanking her, Kladur stayed behind to talk to her as I went off to take a shower. Saltwater never felt nice drying on my skin and my hair. Opening the door to my room I was greeted by a big orange cat laying in my chair.
"Teekl? What are you doing here you big sleepy girl?"
"Meow."
"What do you mean, 'Klarion dropped you off'?"
"Meow."
"Ugh, fine, alright! I'm taking a shower. If he returns tell him I'm too busy to play around. I have homework that needs to be done by tomorrow."
Another meow was sent my way having grabbed my clothing, I entered my bathroom, turning on the shower. I wiggled out of my swimming wear threw them into the hamper, I jumped into my shower, a deep sigh leaving my mouth. Telling Alex put up my favorite playlist I took my time to shower, liking how the hot water relaxed my shoulders. As soon as I was done I pulled on my clothing, leaving my shirt off as I hate it getting wet because of my hair. Leaving the bathroom, rubbing my hair with a towel.
"I will not leave just because you have some dumb mortal stuff you have to do..."
Klarion trailed off seeing me standing there, towel in hand and no shirt. Rolling my eyes at his childish behavior, I moved over to my chair lifting Teekl from it, before placing her back onto my lap as I took my seat. Teekl rubbing his head against my stomach, petting her head, turning my back to Klairon, returning to my work. I could basically hear how frustrated he was with me as I keep ignoring him. Cold hand made contact with my sides, a squeak leaving my mouth. Turning around, glaring at the annoyingly tall guy.
"Klarion, I'm serious I have to finish this by tomorrow."
Grabbing his familiar he dropped her to the floor, leaning over me. Klarion and I had this secret friendship, we have known each other for a good 3 years now, over those years we became the best of friends. But over those years I had started to like him more than my best friend, I remembered when I had kissed him during Halloween. I was drunk as was he and we kissed, we didn't talk about it. Lucky for me we did turn back to being best friends but there was always something in the air with us. Trying to push him away from me, to return to my work, but he kept his grip on the chair, staring me down.
"Klarion i swe-"
A soft kiss was placed against my lips, my eyes wide, but before I could do anything he pulled back. He seems to look at me like he did something stupid. Before he could snap his finger to open a portal, I jumped out of my seat, taking hold of his hand, pulling him against me. Standing on my toes I kissed him, placing his hand over my heart. Pulling back slightly, starring into the other one's eyes, a small laugh leaving my lips.
"And here I thought you didn't like me like that."
"Then you are dead wrong, my dear."
Laughing I leaned myself against him. "Already with the nicknames?"
"Of course, short stack."
Shoving him back onto the bed, I rolled my eyes at how he always tries to play with my feelings. Taking a seat on the bed next to him, I turned to him, legs crossed. He just grins at me, falling back trying to pull me down with him. Catching myself before hitting his chest, I looked at him with a raised eyebrow. Before I leaned down kissing him again, again and again. Our breathing becomes faster, his hands finding my waist to pull me to him. Throwing my leg over his waist, I kissed his cheek before moving to his neck, whispering how much I loved him and that I couldn't be happier. His hands began to wander, his nails leaving red lines. A moan leaving my lips as they rack down my back. A groan leaving his mouth in return as I bit his neck, pulling on the flesh. Undoing the buttons of his jacket, pulling off the tie, throwing onto the floor, his hands going under my pants grabbing hold on my ass. I giggled, I never took him for an ass man, but I learn something new every day.
"Something funny?" Sitting back up, looking down at him, seeing the mark I left.
"Nothing much, just never took you for an ass man, that's all."
He smirked, flipping us over, my damp hair brushing against my skin. putting my legs over his legs, pulling me close.
"I'm not but with you, I like about anything."
He leaned down kissing my neck, as I pushed his jack from his shoulders. He pulled back, fulling taking it off, I unbuttoned his shirt, kiss lips connecting with my neck once more. Hands pulling off my pants, I shifted my legs so it was easier. A pleasant feeling shot down to my stomach as he focused on a spot on my neck. Small noises left my mouth, he quickly pulled off his shirt, his hands settled on my hips. He looked down at me, his eyes looking at me like I was the most important being in the world. Smiling I lifted my hand, taking hold of his cheek. Leaning into it, we basked in the moment, just the two of us.
"Meow!"
Laughing, Klarion could only glare at his familiar.
"Right, off you go then."
Snapping his fingers, a portal seems to take Teekl. Klarion turned back to me, as I was grinning, that was pretty funny.
"I found that way more funny than it should be."
He smirked, looking me over, I felt exposed. Throwing my arms over my face to hide my blush. Hands grip my wrist, pulling them away and pinning them next to my head. A growl leaving Klarion's throat as he crashed his lips against mine, taking over the kiss, as he shoved his tongue into my mouth. Rolling his hips against mine, moaning against his lips, he groans. Leaving my mouth alone, he began to leave marks on my neck. His teeth biting and pulling on my flesh, I grinned my hips against his, trying to feel any kind of friction there.
He let go of my hands, only to slide them under my sports bra, pulling them off and throwing them. Running his hand over them, a shiver going through my spine, I was trying so hard not to cover up. He grips onto one of them, leaning down to kiss down my neck to my breast. Squirming as he took one of my nipples into his mouth, slightly biting it, feeling my face light up. He let go of my breast to pin my hips down, nails digging into my skin. But I hooked my leg around his waist, pulling my hips up to grinned against his erection. A moan leaving his mouth, god that was hot. With another push he pinned me to the bed.
"You got to stop doing that, doll."
Fuck, alright, that was also very hot. With a nod, he let go of my hips, as his hands ghost over my pelvis, a strange feeling pulled at my stomach. Running a finger over my covered pussy, a soft sound coming from my mouth. Pressing down harder had me almost close my legs if they weren't over his legs. His fingers felt so good, gripping the sheets, he was smirking down at me.
"Good pet, let me hear your noises. Let me know how good I make you feel just by my fingers."
Moaning his name, he seems to stiffen up, before he quickly leaned down kissing me. His hand stopped before he began to remove my underwear. once off, being completely bare to him, he sits back looking me over. His fingers return to my pussy, rubbing circles. It felt so strange but good to have someones else fingers touch me there. Gripping onto his other hand, moaning, as he moved his hand to intertwine our fingers, lifting them to his lips. Slowly I felt two fingers enter, his thumb rubbing my button. Rolling my hips, I whined, how can this feel so good. After a while, I could feel my orgasm built up, gripping his hand tighter. Letting go of my hand he leaned over me, as my hands cling onto his back.
"Klarion I-" A harsh trusted of his fingers made me cut myself off.
"I got you, relax, let go from me, doll. I got you."
He whispered into my hair, Feeling myself come on done, I whined out his name. My nails pressing crescent moons into his back, as my legs quivered. His voice telling me how I was going so well, that he got me, helping me through my orgasm. Whining when I felt it beginning to hurt, he stopped. Looking up at him, his usually brown-reddish eyes were now glowing soft red, they look like a fine whine. Running my fingers through his hair, he leaned into it. But I let my other hand pull on his pants. He chuckled sliding off the bed, pulling off his pants and underwear. He pulled me to the end of the bed, hooking his arms under my legs.
"You good?"
"Yes, just take it slow. I..."
Kissing me he nods, rubbing his dick against my soaked pussy, making me whine and him groan.
"What about-"
"I got it no worries, I promise."
Slowly sliding in, I gripped the sheets, Rolling my hips against his dick. His hand held me down by my stomach, my own leg being folded so much that it hit my stomach. Whining out his name as was fully in, my head leaning back. He feels so good, rolling his hips, his dick hitting all the right places. Pushing myself up, gripping the back of his head pulling him down, crashing our lips together. Patting against his lips, whispering for him to go faster, oh please go faster. Pushing me down, gripping my neck, putting pressure onto it, he slammed his dick into my hole. My breath ragged, moaning his name, gripping his bicep, this felt so fucking good.
"K-Klarion, please. Fuck this feels so good, please, please, please don't stop!"
"How could I ever stop when you sound so good. Such a good pet, moan like that just because of my cock."
His grip on my neck tightened, my eyes rolling back, hands scratching at his arm. His other hand now holding me down by my stomach. Feeling it building up again, a whine leaving my mouth.
"F-fuck pet! Come with me. Be good and come for me!"
Feeling his fingers touch my clit again, rubbing tight circles, I felt myself cum once more. Almost shouting his name, he leaned over me, folding my legs to my sides, biting harshly into my neck. scratching his back, the pain adding to the pleasure. Pulling back, he looked down at me, before he kissed me like I could disappear at any moment. Slowly pulling out, I hissed against his lips. Slowly he lowered my legs, kissing the inside of my tights, telling me how good I was for him. He snapped his fingers, a damp towel landing in his hands, he began to clean me. Hissing as the warm towel rubbed against my oversensitive pussy, he flipped the towel around rubbing against the joint of my legs to help take away some of the pain. After it cleaning the bite mark on my shoulder.
"Thank you, Klarion." I slowly sit up, snapping my own fingers a damp towel landing in my hands.
"You don't have to, sweetheart."
"But I want to."
Cleaning him up, he leaned his head on my shoulder, his breath beginning to slow. Running my hand through his hair, cleaning his back from any of the scratches that bleed. Whispering how much I loved him and how good he was for me. Snapping my fingers the sheets were clean, and two big fluffy blankets draped over us. Laying down with him, he pulled me close, our legs intertwined as his arms were around me. Hearing a portal open, soon feeling our four-legged friend join us in bed, taking place just above our heads, bumping her head against ours.
"I love you."
Softly smiling, I leaned my head back so I could look at him, running my hand through his hair.
"And I love you, Klarion. More than you might realize."
"Meow."
Laughing I reached over to pet Teekl.
"I love you as well, you pretty girl."
Klarion leaned his head on top of mine, before the both of us fell asleep to a purring Teekl.
Smiling softly at the orange cat, running my fingers through her fur, I was sitting on my window sill, staring at the night sky. Soon enough my furry friend climbs onto my lap, laying herself across my chest as I was leaning back. A soft hum came from me, using both my hands to pet her. Today had been a long day, having been part of the team for a good year now and nobody trusted me at all. I wasn't really surprised, a child with very strong powers coming from a criminal family trying to be good. I always thought they wouldn't judge but it would seem that I was wrong in the end. Pulling the cat closer to my face giving her a kiss on the forehead. A small meow came from her, lowering her back onto my chest. Whispering to her a small thank you for always returning and listening to me, getting a paw in my face making me laugh.
"You know, I wouldn't mind being an anti-hero or just someone how messes around with people. might even be better than working with the young justice, the only thing they do is look down on me for not coming from a normal family. you would think they would welcome me and happy that I'm using my powers for good instead of following my parent's footsteps, right?"
A small meow was sent back, wiggling her way out of my arms, jumping out of the window. I knew it, even animals get tired of me in the end. Looking and down I waved off the cat, closing the window and moving over to my bed. Turning on my laptop I pulled up a video that I wanted to watch. laying down I got myself comfortable, pulling the pillow against my neck, sleep taking me into its arms.
"Stay focused Black blood!"
Getting almost hit by another shot of Ra's al Ghul, I made wings grow from my back, using them to make a gust of wind knocking the wizard back. Standing over Robin, him being downed by one of Ra's people, I picked him up and quickly flew off. Putting him down away from danger, putting a force field over him if someone would come here, swiftly returning to the battle. Pulling Artemis out of an incoming attack, only to get an angry glare in return. Rolling my eyes, scanning the battlefield my eyes landing Ra's al Ghul himself. Rushing up to him, moving my hands in a certain way, magical robs quickly tying him up.
"Well done Zatanna!"
I couldn't believe my ears, did Superboy give her the credit?!
"That was my magic, Superboy!"
He looked at me like it was insane, but I quickly moved my hand to bring Ra's al Ghul over to me. He was starring at me trying to get free of the bindings.
"Impressive spell, better than baby magic over there."
Blocking the blast that was coming my way, it was stronger than I expected as I get pushed away from Ra's al Ghul. Looking over to see a boy my age with his hair looking like horns. That... that was pretty cute not going to lie.
"Thank you! But it would seem that you are not on my side."
He smirked, snapping his finger, my spell disappearing, leaving Ra's al Ghul free once more. Taking in a deep breath, the wings on my back straightening upwards, ready to fight the boy, only to get pushed out of the way by Zatanna. The boy seems to not like that as the smirk disappeared from his face being replaced by annoyance.
"And I was getting ready to have someone who might be fun to fight. But you had to show up, how boring."
Quickly covering my mouth before I let out a laugh, I looked away from the two. My shoulders were slightly shaking from holding back a laugh as I calmed down. Turning back I saw he was still looking straight at me, now a devilish grin on his face. Alright, he might be the more chiller villain I'm going to fight.
"Alright fight me then, if I win... you let me have Ra's al Ghul and your name as for you... Tell me your price!"
Stepping forwards, my wings relaxed, feathers trailing over the ground. That seems to make him happy, rubbing his hands together once more. Grinning I lifted my arms only for Superboy to step forwards, shaking his head."I will not allow this."
With a roll of the boy's eyes, he flicked Superboy away, a pull onto my waist, I was closer to the boy. A circle of ruins surrounded us, locking me away from the others.
"If I win, I want your name and... Mmh." He was tapping his cheek, with I now see, black sharp nails.
"And a day with you."
"I can agree to that."
"Then it's settled, ready?"
"Ready as I will ever be!"
White markings appeared on my skin as I lifted myself from the ground. I didn't need to say my spells out loud like Zatanna. Blasting the boy with my magic, making him jump back. Red lightning was shot my way, I just deflected it. He wasn't using his full power, a smirk pulled at my lips, rushing over to him. Going in for a punch a force shield blocked it, I flipped back, levitating high in the sky. Lifting my hands pulling lighting from the sky, feeling it go through me waking me straight up. Flinging it at the boy, he just put up a force field once more. Now! teleporting behind him, I round-house kicked him, him landing on his face making me laugh.
"And here I thought you would put a good fight!"
"Why you little.."
Catching the red flames, fuck too hot! Dropping it to the ground, waving my hands, quickly blocking the next one with my own force shield. Taking a deep breath, I lowered myself to the ground. Placing my hands on the ground, softly saying to the plants underground to wrap him up. Pushing my energy into the plants, they burst from the ground, quickly wrapping around the screaming boy. Flying over to him, taking hold of his face, leaning our foreheads together, I begin to drain him from his powers. Slowly his kicking and screaming stopped and he basically went limp in my hold.
"Good fight, love to fight you again, but then away from the city. Now mind me tell your name."
His tired eyes looked up at me, they looked like they were filled with wonder. I must be seeing things.
"Klarion Bleak."
"Charming name for a charming boy. But I must be going now, thank you for the good fight."
Waving my hands breaking the runes, walking over to the others. Eyes wide they moved out of my way. Rolling my eyes at them, I tie up Ra's al Ghul before entering the ship, Ra's al Ghul floating behind me. Locking him up I waited for the team.
"That was reckless of you!"
Getting another shouting by the one and only Batman.
"I know, but if it would mean getting Ra's al Ghul, I would do it again and again. Be happy we have him now."
I calmly replied, Taking off my jacket, staring up at the black-masked hero. His eyes stared me down, but I could care less, it has been like this from the very beginning. Noone trusted me and I could trust no one. It might always be like this, it's funny this is usually how villains are created. Being beaten to the ground by the higher-ups, them saying a big fat fuck you to them, and then turning to the dark side. HA star wars joke! A hand landed on my shoulder, looking up at superman.
"Don't do it again! Next time you will not be joining the team and be allowed outside."
Holding back my anger, just nod your head and go with it. After all the talking and debriefing was over I begin to make my way back to my room.
"Black Blood!" Looking over my shoulder at Artemis, giving her a small smile, but she didn't seem to want to return it.
"Yes?"
"Don't touch me ever again."
"As you wish."
Bowing my head in a mocking way, I turn and entered my room a moment later. Taking off my hero suit, putting it away, I fell down onto my bed, curling up into a ball. My breath becoming on even, until I felt tears spill from my eyes. Stupid teammates, stupid grown-ups, stop world. Gripping the sheets, I squeeze close my eyes a growl leaving my mouth. Never will they see me as a friend.
"Meow!"
Looking up from my book, seeing the orange cat once more, but it was raining outside. Rushing over, grabbing the towel from the kitchen counter. Opening the window, taking hold of her with the towel softly beginning to dry her off.
"What are you doing outside?! Why did your owner let you out?! It's raining!"
Just purring came from her, a fond smile pulled at my lips as I moved back over to the spot I was reading. which was right in front of the fireplace. She quickly took her seat on the pillow in front of it. I had used one of my older pillows to give her a spot to lay on in front of the fire.
"Just wanting to lay in front of the fire, you little sly cat."
A meow was my answer, making me roll my eyes. Leaning to her, kissing her forehead, before I got comfortable and began to read again. By my mind couldn't focus, they were busy thinking about a black-haired boy. Klarion Bleak. that sly boy had made its place in my mind and also maybe my heart. I had hadn't seen him since I had beaten him in a fight but I did see him through my teammates' eyes. I wasn't allowed to go on missions for a few months and was only allowed to watch from afar. Borning! So I just stay home, I could care less what the others think, I had given up on them, just like how they had given up on me. Running my hands through her fur, I put the book away.
"You know, I have had my mind on that boy I talked about. you know, Klarion. The team had a mission against him a few weeks back and I wasn't allowed to join! It was so unfair, I wanted to talk to him so badly! Fighting him was fun! I'm never allowed to spar against anyone! And I might have gotten a tiny crush on him..."
Hearing the words leave my mouth, I felt my cheeks burn. For fuck sake! I'm not some high school girl having stupid crushes... Alright, I might, but whatever. My furry friend rubbed against my hand, almost telling me to go on, talk some more.
"I can watch from my teammates' helmets or mask. And the few times they went against him, he... He really seems like that one villain you are happy to fight. He is just so fun and ready to have a good fight. My motto has always been 'Throw in a little chaos in the day if you find it boring!' and he is precisely that! That what I like about him. Then again he is chaos personified."
Laying back down, looking over at the widow a small sigh leaving my lips as I closed my eyes.
"Maybe when I go on missions again, I get to see him again."
Mission!!! Fucking yeah! It might be small but I'm more than happy to watch over New York today. Floating over the city, trying to look around for trouble makers. Letting my feet hit one of the rooftops just on the edge of the city. Rolling my shoulders, I try to let them relax.
"Hello there!"
Whipping around almost giving me a whip lace. Staring right into the eyes of the boy I thought I might never see again.
"Klarion!"
Lifting my hands, the tattoos on my body lighting up. But he quickly lifted his hands, shaking his hands.
"I'm here to just talk."
I should think better with that big smirk on his face but me being me, I let my hands fall and the tattoos turn back to black. Giving him a smile, I leaned against the edge of the rooftop.
"Go on talk, tall boy." He laughed, dropping his own hands.
"All talk and never being allowed on a mission."
"How did you-"
"Meow!" A familiar orange cat stepped out behind him.
"You little minx!! You told him about tha-"
realizing all that I have told that stupid cat, a deep blush began to crawl at my skin.
"You better not have told him about... you know!"
A smug meow left the orange cat.
"Tell me what? about the missions or about seeing me?"
Looking down at the cat, glaring at her for a second before looking back at the boy standing in front of me. Seems she might not have told him, I fucking hope so otherwise, it's going to be awkward!
"Second..."
Another laugh left his mouth, clinging his stomach. His pet walking over to me, jumping into my arms. Cathing the cat, I rolled my eyes at her, but I can't stay mad at her.
"Well, here I am, anything you want to know?"
Fuck! why must he be so smug and hot at the same time? Try not to look to effect by him by rolling my eyes.
"Is it true that you are chaos-personified? and that you cannot really be contained?"
Feeling how his ego was boosted, his smirked also seem to grow, taking a few steps to me. But I could care less, if he wants to hurt me, I know he would have already done so.
"Yes I'm chaos personified and to the second yes I can't be contained. I do like to know why you wanted to see me again."
Try to casually look away, taking in a sharp breath.
"Because you are interesting to me. You really seem to be like that one villain that I'm happy to fight. You... you just seem to be so much fun and ready to have a good fight. Fighting against you was fun, a good spar! A good fight for once!"
Looking back over to him, seeing him looking down at me with an unknown expression on his face.
"How about we fight again? Right now?"
"I can't I have a duty to watch the city."
An evil smirk came to his face, lifting his hands, clapping them. Screams soon to be heard.
"There! A little bit of chaos, tell them I'm here. Now let's fight~!"
Putting the cat down, quickly leaning over the edge seeing monsters beginning to attack the houses.
"Black Blood to base, Monsters have appeared in the city, Klarion seems to be the one controlling them. I will hold them back as much as I can!"
"We understand we will be there as soon as possible."
Putting up fore fields around the houses, I turned to Klarion, him smirking his face off.
"Well, what are you waiting for, tall baby!"
His eyes widen as I threw the first punch. Blocking it, hold my first in his hand, a loud laugh leaving his mouth. Throwing me off the building, I flipped myself over to be floating, turning to Klarion. Block his fire with a shield I threw a gust of wind his way knocking him off balance. Fire soon following that attack, but he just absorbed it, red lighting made it way over to me. Dodging it, I use my momentum to swing a black orb at him. Hitting straight into his chest sending him into one of my fore fields protecting the houses. It only stuns him for a split second before an energy blast came my way. Barely being able to dodge them, red lightning connected with my side, sending me to the ground. Harshly landing, I groan rolling over onto my back.
"Right you mortals and your easily breakable bodies."
Seeing him float above me, smirking. A grin pulled at my lips as I slammed the ground, rocks flying up into his face. Quickly moving above him, I try to blast him in his back, but that was blocked by him.
"Smart girl."
Smirking, I let fire dance in my hands, my tattoos finally lighting up. The red color of the flames slowly drained away leaving silver flames behind.
"nesohc fo eht noom."
My voice always sounds so strange when I let these powers fully take over. Lifting my hands above my head, I threw a big flaming ball at the boy who was looking at me like I was amazing. A small blush pulled on my face, but this was a sparring match, not a crush nation.
"ecarbme eht thgin!"
silver ropes wrapped the boy up, rushing forwards trying to take hold of his face like last time, only to get blasted back. My back hit the ground once more, rolling until I hit a car.
"BLACK BLOOD!"
Growling I stood up, lifting myself from the ground. Looking up at Klarion, a smirk on his face. As the others came rushing to my side, but I pushed them all away from me. I could feel blood trail down the side of my face, dripping off my chin.
"I got this."
"No! look at you."
"I said I'm fine."
"Why must you always be this stubborn?!"
Ignoring the young league, I lifted myself from the ground. The silver flames leaving me slowly began to turn black, moving my hand a specific way. Black orbs surrounding my hands, then pulling them up to the night sky.
"ruo seof rehtiw htaeneb a olah fo denekcalb emalf!!"
A black halo covered the horrified-looking boy.
"HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS TYPE OF MAGIC?!"
quickly flames beginning to cover his body, making him weaker and weaker. Lowering himself to the ground, trying to keep standing. Floating in front of him, with a flick of my wrist the halo disappeared, the flames slowly going out. Taking hold of his face, leaning our foreheads together.
"Go."
I breathe out, letting my energy sink into him. Myself lowering onto my feet, the tattoos disappearing. My headlight, I pulled myself away from him. A soft smile on my face, before everything turned black, I could feel arms taking hold of me.
The team was staring at me as Wonderwoman stood next to me a smile on her face. This was the first time I met her, but her aroura was present. She was talking to batman and superman. The fight was fun, but the team was once more not happy with me.
"I will take them as my sidekick. They are worthy and I want to train them." Hearing those words hit my ears, I wiped my head around to look at Wonder Woman. Eyes wide, feeling pride swell up in my chest.
"Why would you ever want to take in a child from two criminals."
My shoulders dropped, head falling, I sigh, looking away. They weren't wrong, why would she ever. But feeling a hand lift up my chin, making me look straight up at Wonder Woman. A proud smile on her face, softly patting my cheek.
"And I couldn't be more proud of you. I can't believe you guys, that you think treating them like this, is the right way of treating them."
Feeling tears gather in my eyes, I looked away from Wonder Woman's face. But with a play full squeeze to my cheeks making my eyes snap back to her.
"Go pack what you need, Then we will be off to Themyscira. I will train you personally."
my eyes wide, I nod and ran off to my room. This could be it!
After having moved to Themyscira, Klarion began to visit me from time to time. Usually, once in a month or two, the woman here could basically feel when a guy steps on the island. But I began to worry, I hadn't seen him for over 5 months. Taking a deep breath, pulling my hair out of my face. Today, after 2 and a half years of training was my final test. Showing Diana that I'm ready to rejoin everyone, showing what I have become.
The first test was of Hand-to-hand combat, with Diana having trained me personally I beat the other Amazon woman without struggle. The second test was of patience, which I had plenty of, having to take the comments of the young justice, I had patience enough. So without worrying I passed that. Last was controlling my powers. We found out that the goddess of the Moon, Selene, had blessed me with her powers. Controlling those powers had proven difficult after we fully dove into them. I had hurt Diana accidentally and I didn't want to use the powers for a full week. But Klarion had shown me how to control it in a night. Giving me tips along the way. Remembering his words I passed the test.
"I granted you to be Amazon, Chosen of the eclipse. May that be your title. Chosen by the moon itself to protect this earth. Let your enemies win nothing but death."
She placed my new hero outfit in my hands, letting me rise. With a victory roar, the others around me shout out to me, letting me know I earned this with my own sweat, blood, and determination.
Returning to base in my new outfit, showing off the gold star and the silver moon on my outfit. The team turned to the opening portal, seeing us return. The team staring at me, a proud smile was present on my face. Diana placed her hand on my shoulder, the both of us walking up to batman and superman. Batman had apologized after a year with me training under Diana, as she had taken him to the island to show my progression. I had let go of the anger I felt towards him and accepted the apology. As soon as I was close enough, he placed his hand on my shoulder.
"Congratulations, you did great."
"Thank you, Batman."
"You have earned your place among us."
Smile at Superman, it took some time to come around but he had apologized in the end. Smiling, he gave me a small hug.
"Welcome back your old teammate, Bl-"
"Moon light, please."
Batman nods, a small smile pulling at his lips.
"Welcome, Moon light."
The young teens were looking at me but Rocket stepped up first, pulling me into a hug.
"I'm sorry." She whispered, pulling back smiling at me.
"It's alright. we were young and foolish."
She nods stepping away from me, everyone began to re-introduce themselves and their sorry's except for stubborn little Robin. He will always be that little guy with too much ego. The others were beginning to have a fight with him over me. Telling them off, that he should take his time and I will see if he ever says sorry.
"Moew!"
"Teekl!"
Rushing over to the orange cat, softly picking her up, pressing her against my chest. Telling her I missed her, only for her to escape my grasp, seemingly wanting me to follow her. Follow her I did, soon stopping in front of a hammered-off warehouse. Turning myself into smoke I went through the small opening of a board-up window. Reappearing on the other side I looked around, Teekl quickly sprinting off deeper into the warehouse. Rushing after her, rounding a corner seeing Klarion stand there cathing Teekl in his arms.
"Where have you been?"
"Moew."
"What do you mean visiting an old fri..."he trailed off seeing me stand there, a shy smile on my face.
"Where have you been the last couple of months, tall boy?"He whispered my name, Teekl jumping from his arms onto a box, loudly meowing at her partner.
"I'm sorry they locked off my magic for that island.... i-"He took a step to me, as I rushed over to him, jumping into his arms.
"I'm sorry for not letting you know."
"It's alright, you tall dummy. I missed you so much!"
Pulling away from him, he smirked down at me.
"Am I that irresistible?"
Pushing his face away from mine, rolling my eyes at his stupid joke. Taking hold of my wrist, lifting it to his lips, kissing my palm. My cheeks felt warm as he smirked down at me. Now or never you coward! Taking hold of his face with my other hand, I pulled him down to my height, placing my lips against his. He stiffened up, taking that as him not liking it, I quickly pulled back.
"I'm sorry, I tho-"
His lips crashed down on mine, dropping my wrist, instead, he took hold of my waist, pulling us close. Tilting his head to the side, deepening the kiss. Slightly opening my mouth, he immediately reacted, his tongue exploring my mouth. He tasted like sugar and a small hint of something more metallic. Pulling back, taking in a deep breath, his hand slipping up into my hair. After taking a few good breaths, he dove down once more. His tongue quickly exploring again, pushing me up against a crated. He was panting as I pushed him away, taking deep breathes myself.
"I have waited so long to do that."
He spoke, looking down at me, his hands exploring my sides. Leaning down, kissing alongside my neck. A moan leaving my mouth as he found that spot on my neck. Putting my hands on his shoulders pushing him away, my head was spinning with how fast he was going.
"Same here, lover boy, but slow down."
Out of breath, I gave him a small smile, he gave me back a genuine smile. Leaning down give me a quick peck on the lips. A small laugh left his lips, placing his forehead on mine. Pulling me impossibly close, a deep sigh left his lips. Pushing his head up, I softly kissed him again, standing on my toes. Soon the kiss turned heated again, pushing me to sit on one of the wooden crates. Laying me down, climbing on top of me, pulling back looking down at me.
"Your so beautiful."
"And you are so handsome, thank you for being in my life."
His eyes widen, looking away, clearing his throat, pulling on his tie. Laughing, he wiped his head down at me, glaring as I laughed at him. Leaning down his lips found the spot again, I almost choked on my own spit.
"K-Klarion."
Let's just say that night I never felt more loved in my whole life.
----
Sorry for any grammar mistakes well if I messed up something from young justice, I haven't watched it in so long so if there are any mistakes let me know!
Sorry for any grammar mistakes well if I messed up something from young justice, I haven't watched it in so long so if there are any mistakes let me know!
"Don't call me cute, you tempter!" Klarion x reader // Short!
"Klar?"
"Mmh?"
"Could... could you help me for a second?"
Looking from the new magic book I got him, he looked down at me, seeing I was trying out my own magic spell. He snapped the book closed and flew down from his little place in the air. Sliding next to me, looking over the incantations I was trying to pull off. A small hum left his mouth, as he asked me what I was trying to do.
"Making my own pocket dimension!"
A laugh left his mouth, changing some of the incantations symbols, telling me what I was doing wrong, moving my arms so I could pull it off in one go.
"Go on, don't disappoint me now, pet."
Rolling my eyes, a small smirk played on my face, taking a deep breath before moving my fingers and arms I needed to pull this off. A strong burst of wind pushed my hair back, and with a last pull of my fingers, a small ball was left behind. Grabbing it, it disappeared right away letting me know it worked, or well at least I hope so. With a wave of my hand, a portal opened in front of me letting me look inside, an open space with nothing in it yet was shown to me. An excited giggle I pulled away from the portal closing it, turning to Klarion, who had a proud smirk on his face.
"Thank you Klarion!"
Kissing the underside of his jaw, I was about to open my pocket space again to start placing things in it but Klarion pulled me back into him.
"I think I deserve more than just a kiss, don't you think so, pet?"
"Stop with the nickname and I might think about it!"
Slipping out of his arms, and dodging every time he tried to grab for me I laughed as we stumbled through the portal. Floating in the air, I grabbed his shoulders, pulling us close as I spider man kissed him.
"Ah~ how cute you are when you are needy, Klarion~"
"Don't call me cute, you tempter!"
with a small pull on his shoulders, I was floating in front of him, his arms quickly wrapping me up close to him. His nose pushed against my cheek as I placed my hands on his shoulders, a small laugh leaving me as his annoyed grumbling was felt against my cheek.
"Klar?"
A deep sigh left his mouth but he pulled back, slightly glaring down at me, so with a grin, my hands moved up to his cheeks, taking hold of them. Pulling him down, kissing him properly this time, his hands gripping my waist, nails digging through my clothing. A small groan left his throat, leaning into me, tipping our weight, making him float above me. Breaking the kiss, I stared at him, his eyes slightly glowing red, his red eyes trailing over my face. Slightly tilting my head to the side a small grin on my face.
"You good now?"
"No."
With that his lips connected with mine, and well the rest is history.

Klarion x reader //we meet again// Part 2
Teekl was purring against my chest as I was leaning back in the corner of the base, the window to the outside world only showing rain and thunder. Big boss and Klarion were talking about stuff that I could care less for, I was happy with the purring cat on my lap and some tea by my side. My phone played soft music as my mind drifted in and out of existence. Hands ran through short orange hair, as Teekl was making biscuits with my shirt, how cute. A small giggle left my mouth, soon after taking a sip from my now cooled-down tea. "I would like my familiar back, now."
"Mmh, I think she is pretty comfortable and happy here in my lap, so... no you can't"
A small growl left his mouth, a chuckle left my mouth, placing the teacup down, wrapping my arms around the small animal. Standing from my seat, cracking my back in the progress, a small meow leaving Teekl. Holding out Teekl to her owner, he snatched her from my arms. A small growl left Teekl being handled so roughly, she glared up at her owner.
"What?! Don't you growl at me, you stupid cat."
"You off?"
His head snapped to me as I just smiled back at him, looking me up and now he let his shoulders drop.
"Yes."
"Mmh, sad! Till next time Klarion, bye Teekl."
Petting Teekl on the head she leaned into my touch before I look up at Klarion with a small smirk.
"Take care, Klar."
"Take care.... (n/n)"
A grin broke on my face, as he teleported off to gods knows where me skipping back to my spot before plopping down onto my mountain of pillows. I feel like a schoolgirl who just talked to their crush, gripping a pillow to my chest, looking out of the window. Some time had past since our first meeting, we went on a few missions over time, just annoying each other when we could, but still having fun. it did get us in trouble from time to time but that only made it more fun. So our friendship grows and well... So do my feelings for the witch boy himself.
"So this is what you meant with baby magic all those years ago!"
Blocking a spell of Zatanna, absorbing the power into myself, as Klarion laughed. A small black orb appeared in my hand before I swing it at Zatanna, easily breaking through her shield and making her fly across the field. Holding up my hand, turning one of Zatannas' students' magic into nothing.
"What are you teaching them, dear? Nothing good it would seem!"
Sending the girl flying as well, hitting a tree, a painful cry leaving her mouth. Jumping out of the way from another blast I float above Klarion who shot out one bigger spell as they were distracted by me. Sadly Zatanna was there to block it, but barely! Burn wounds decorated their bodies, but that was not important at the moment. Flying over the 3 of them, I made the grab for the magic book we were looking for.
"Thank you, lovelies, we good what we needed."
Landing back next to Klarion, Teekl jumped to my shoulders, softly purring against my cheek. Waving at them, Klarion teleported us back to base, and as soon as we got there I opened up the book. All different kinds of spells, incantations and so much more were in the book. So pretty easy other not so much, feeling eyes on me I looked up from the book, Klarion standing there with his arms cross, a small smirk on his face.
"Soooo, can we try some of these?"
He nods, joining my side, looking over the pages that I was on right now. So hours passed, many different spells were used and tried out, some failing, some partially, and others a big success! Leaning against the mountain of pillows, Klarion next to me, the book floating in front of us, flipping through it as we try to see anything more fun to try out.
"How about that one?"
Slightly leaning to Klarion, pointing at a summoning spell of a big monster. Our shoulders touched, using his knee for support to not make me fall over. Klarion shook his head, feeling his arm wrap around my waist, pulling me into him. A pleasant sigh left my nose, leaning into his side, looking over the book ones more. Sometimes pointing something out, other times just making small spells in the air. Until I felt myself drop my head on his shoulder, Teekl joining us, sitting on my lap, running my fingers through her fur.
"Klar?"
"Mmh?"
"Ah never mind."
"You got to tell me now, (n/n)"
Looking up at the chaos lord, trailing my eyes over his face, should i... no this is nice, I shouldn't ruin it, this is the longest he has sat still. But it would seem something was on his mind as well, as he was also scanning me over. Leaning my head back on his shoulder only for his sharp nail to poke my cheek.
"Klarion!"
"Come on tell me! Don't be like this!"
"Like what?"
"Like... Like!"
A small chuckle was heard from me, Klarion glaring down at me. Grumbling he leaned his head on top of mine, snapping the book close in front of us, Teekl sitting up in my lap, rubbing her head against my chin.
"So you want attention, he?"
"Yes."
My movement froze, slowly pulling away from Klarion to look up at him. A small pout on his lips, his arms now crossed, quickly looking down at Teekl, only to see her looking up at me with a smug look in her eyes. 'you sly fox.' So with a deep breath, I looked back up to Klarion, placing my hand on the back of his neck. His eyes made contact with mine.
"You can just ask right?"
"Does it look like I want to do that?!"
Laughing, I leaned myself onto him, my other hand beginning to run through his hair.
"(n/n)?"
"Mh?"
Leaning down his lips connect with mine, hands trailing up and down my back as mine grip the back of his head. It was soft, gentle, and inexperienced but fun in a way. Tilting my head a little bit, letting one of my hands' cup his jaw, a small sigh left his nose. Pulling back, I bump my nose against his, his hands finally settling on my lower back.
"Good enough attention, Klar?"
He nods, kissing me again and again, wrapping my arms around his neck, a small laugh left my mouth as his nails scrape against the back of my neck. A chuckle left his own, pulling us closer together.

You groan in your bed, your fever spiking to an almost unbearable temperature. You spend a lot of time in bed nowadays—ever since your best friend died almost a year ago, you haven’t had the drive to do much. But being sick the past week has only confined you to your bed even more.
You roll over, hoping the other half of your pillow is somehow cooler than the side you’re on now. It’s not, and your body feels like it’s going to overheat. If it was possible to put less clothing on, you would, but the chances of your roommate coming in and seeing you naked are too high.
Speaking of your roommate, you know that when Dick comes home and sees how bad your temperature has gotten, he’ll rush you to the hospital. Paranoid, big brother Dick who insists he can’t lose another friend. Dick, who moved in with you a few months after Wally died because he was afraid you might hurt yourself. Dick, who forced you to put socks on and keep most of your clothes on because even though you feel hot, he knows you’re still vulnerable to the cold.
The socks scratch at your ankles now and you long to pull them off, lazily dragging your feet together. You squeeze your eyes shut, trying to calm your burning nerve ends.
As much pain as you’re in, this is the most you’ve felt since Wally died. From the day you watched him get vaporised, everything around you has just gotten duller by the day. You can hardly stomach to put on your costume, let alone look at Barry or Bart. Even seeing The Flash on the news is enough to make you sick.
“Y/n,” a soft voice echoes from the bed next to you.
You force your eyes open, your dark room greeting you. “Hello?”
There’s no answer, and you’re able to close your eyes again. You relax into your bedsheets, kicking the blankets off of your legs in a desperate attempt to get some relief. Clearly your fever has spiked to the point where you’re losing it.
“Y/n!” The voice is stronger now, and it sounds more desperate than before. More than that—there’s something familiar to it.
You open your eyes again and gasp, all of the breath leaving your body. There, sitting on the bed next to you, is Wally. His green eyes are full of concern, his mouth pulled into a tight line.
“Oh god,” you whine, “I really am losing it.”
You squeeze your eyes shut, willing the hallucination of your dead best friend to go away. How could any god be so cruel to inflict this on you? Knowing how you felt about Wally—and what he’d said to you during your last moments together?
When you open your eyes again, he’s still sitting there. His unruly red hair is falling into his face and all you want is to reach out and brush it away.
“You’re not losing it,” he says.
“I’m so sick that I’m hallucinating my dead best friend. How is that not losing it?”
He shrugs. “I mean it does sound pretty crazy, but I’m here, aren’t I?”
“You’re dead,” you say simply, voice void of emotions. “You died and you left and you’re never coming back.”
“I got better.”
Everything about him screams Wally. His voice, his mannerisms, even the stupid jokes he makes. But you know it’s just your brain playing a stupid trick on you. Your braincells have overheated and you’re left staring at a ghost.
“No, you didn’t. And you never will, Wally. And I know that so I don’t get why my stupid brain can’t leave this alone.”
He lays down on his side next to you, looking up at you with those doe eyes. “There wasn’t a body, you know.”
His words make you angry, they make you choke on the lump in your throat. But he’s right. Something about his death always seemed wrong to you, and even after this long, you still can’t accept it. He’s saying all of the right things, and it almost makes you believe he’s really here.
“So say you are here…why now? Why here? Why am I the only one who’s seen you?”
He strokes his chin, pretending to be deep in thought. “I don’t really know, y/n. I’ve been here the whole time. I’ve watched everything. I know how hard things have been for you guys…”
You don’t say anything, just staring at him expectantly, forcing him to keep talking.
“I’m sorry you’re sick, but I’m glad Dick is taking care of you.”
“Answer the question, Wally. Why now?”
He sighs. “I think it’s because you’re sick. I think once your fever got past a certain point you were able to hear me, and once you could hear me, you could see me.”
“How would that even work?” You squint at him, “how did you even know I could hear you?”
“I didn’t it’s just—it’s a habit to talk to you, you know? But anyway, I think it has something to do with the speed force being attracted to the release of energy, and whenever you have a fever, you release massive amounts of it. But since yours is so high…” he gestures at himself for emphasis.
“So as long as I stay sick, I can see you?”
“I think so.”
“Then I never want to get better,” you murmur.
“Y/n,” he sighs, and the tone he uses makes you freeze. You’ve only ever heard him use it once before—with you on the day he died.
The thought brings a tear to your eye, his words echoing in your ears. I love you, y/n, I always have. I’ll be back for you, okay?
When Dick gets home from work, he’s surprised to hear you talking. His first instinct is that you’re feeling better and you’re arranging to go back to work, but as he gets closer to your bedroom door, he realizes it’s not the case.
He listens in for a bit, hearing a one sided conversation. As soon as he hears you say ‘Wally’, he’s barging through your door only to find you talking to the air.
“Dick!” You cry out, gesturing to the empty bed next to you, “look! He’s back, he’s here. Wally’s here!”
Dick’s heart aches for you. You’re clearly unwell and in your feverish state, your mind is playing tricks on you.
“Y/n,” Dick sighs, “I think it’s time we go to a doctor.”
He approaches your bedside slowly, trying not to startle or upset you. He knows you’re hallucinating, and he really doesn’t want to trigger anything worse to happen.
He kneels at your bedside, just behind Wally. “Come on, we need to get you to the hospital.”
“N-no! I can’t leave Wally!”
Wally’s face crinkles up the way it always has when he feels guilty. “Y/n, I think you should go with Rob.”
“No!” You cry out, “you can’t leave me again!”
Dick gives you no warning before he’s pulling you into his arms, your feverish skin scorching his. He holds you securely, even as you cry and beg him to take you back to Wally.
“Wally, please! Do something! Let him see you! Don’t—don’t leave me again!”
“Y/n,” Dick rubs your sweaty hair out of your face. “It’s gonna be okay. You’re really sick, and you’re hallucinating, but we’ll make you all better. I just need you to trust me.”
You take a deep breath, and then another, looking over Dick’s shoulder at the redhead sitting on your bed, giving you a sad look. He gives you a wave, “it’s okay, y/n. Everything will be okay.”
You just hope he’s right.
—
The hospital takes an eternity to admit you, leaving you lying on Dick’s lap in the waiting room. You keep your eyes closed, hoping that if you open them Wally will be there, but you know he won’t.
Dick strokes your hair, rubs your back, does anything he can to keep you comfortable. When a nurse finally calls your name, he helps you to your feet and half carries you down the hall.
They leave the two of you in a small, isolated room with a bed covered in scratchy sheets. Dick helps you climb up while the nurse insists a doctor will be by shortly.
Dick holds your hand the whole time, the skin on his palm turning sweaty from where your hand touches his. Your fever has only gone up since you left the house and you feel like you’re going to burn alive.
Finally, a doctor comes in and she starts to run all kinds of tests on you. After a while, they insert an IV into your arm and push fluids to keep you hydrated. They give you medicine to help you drift off to sleep, your eyes fluttering shut before you realize what’s happening.
You wake up a few hours later, Dick no longer asleep at your bedside. Your temperature has gone down, and while you still feel feverish, you’re coherent enough to know what’s going on around you.
“—hallucinating our best friend who died almost a year ago.” Dick tried to keep his voice down but you can hear it from the hallway.
“It’s common in extremely high fever’s to experience visual, auditory and sometimes even tactile hallucinations,” the doctor explains. “Y/n’s fever was beyond high enough to cause any number of these complications.”
Your shoulders slump. You knew deep down that Wally wasn’t really there, that he was a hallucination, but a part of you just hoped…
“But it’s going to be alright? There’s not any permanent side effects?”
The doctor sounds tired of Dick’s questions. “No, we’re keeping y/n overnight for observation but there shouldn’t be any long term side effects.”
Dick thanks the woman and slips back into your room, stopping in his tracks past the door when he realises you’re awake. “How are you feeling?” He whispers.
“Somewhat better,” you admit. “Not hallucinating anymore.”
He sits in the chair next to your bed and squeezes your hand. “That’s good to hear.”
“I-I’m sorry if I upset you earlier…talking about Wally and everything. I just—it seemed so real, you know? He was right there, Dick.”
“I know. You don’t need to apologize. Your mind was playing tricks on you, n/n. I know you didn’t mean any harm by it.”
You can’t help the tears that trickle down your cheeks. “I just—I miss him so much!”
“It’s okay,” Dick leans over your bed, pulling you tightly to his chest. “I miss him too. I miss him so, so much. And if there was any chance…you know I would take it too.”
“Did I ever tell you what he said to me that day? Just before he passed?”
Dick shakes his head.
“He said—,” your voice shakes so severely it’s hard to get the words out. “He said ‘I love you, y/n. I always have. I’ll be back for you, okay?’”
The gears in Dick’s brain click together, and suddenly everything makes sense. It was no secret that you and Wally had been pining after each other for years. Always cuddling and fighting and loving and hating each other. Dick was close to both of you, and he of all people knew how your feelings were bubbling over. He knew how badly you wanted to be with Wally—and how badly Wally wanted to be with you.
It’s a cruel joke, he thinks. That in one day you got everything you wanted, and an hour later had it ripped away. No wonder you’d been like a zombie this year.
“Y/n…” he squeezes your hand reassuringly.
You squeeze his hand back, and between the fever and the medicine and Dick’s skin on yours, everything in the world feels right for a minute.
—
It takes two weeks for you to fully recover from being sick. If it weren’t for your roommate being the ultra rich adoptive son of Bruce Wayne, you probably would have had to go back to work sooner. Dick insisted that you stay home until you were fully recovered, though, offering to cover your bills for the month.
It’s also been two weeks since you saw Wally. It’s been easy to brush it off as a fever dream, but something deep within you wants it to be something more than that. Still, you try to continue on with your day to day life, putting thoughts of the speedster as far away from you as possible.
You pull into the Bludhaven News parking lot with ten minutes to spare. You grab your bag from the passenger seat and clip your badge to your shirt before grabbing the coffee you’d stopped for on the way. You’re determined to make today a good day.
You settle in at your desk, smiling at the picture of you and the original Young Justice team was kids. It makes you happy, but in the most bittersweet meaning of the word. You run your fingers across the glass, stopping them at the lightning symbol on Wally’s chest.
You’re interrupted by your boss stopping at your desk.
“Hey, l/n, good to have you back,” she smiles, and you feel as though she really means it. “We’re having a meeting in five minutes.”
You nod, thanking her. She leaves you at your desk, letting you get organized before you have to meet them in the conference room.
You bring your laptop and coffee and settle in at the big round table in the spinning desk chair. Other journalists, reporters and higher ups slowly file into the room, filling it up until it’s so full it feels almost hard to breathe.
Your boss enters the room last, standing at the front in front of the tv. She welcomes you back before explaining what’s going on in current events, and what she expects everyone to report on.
You sip your coffee, zoning out for the majority of her presentation. Every once and a while, she clicks a remote and the screen changes to a new slide. You don’t pay much attention to the tv, only glancing at it every so often.
When the screen changes to three familiar figures, you freeze. It feels like someone dumped cold water on you, and you’re painfully aware of everything going on around you.
The screen shows Wally, Bart and Barry on the day he died. Wally has a big grin on his face, clad in his Kid Flash suit, giving a salute to a security camera. You’re not sure how they got this picture, but a part of you wishes they didn’t.
“—the one year anniversary since the Flash Family saved the world, and since Kid Flash bravely sacrificed himself to achieve this goal. We want to honour them for their ultimate sacrifice, and that’s why this month, we’ll be doing daily pieces on the great exploits of the family. Also—,”
Her words echo in your ears, everything feels far away from you. The only thing you can focus on is the way your heart is pounding and the way all the air is sucked out of your lungs. Wally’s face stares at you from the tv screen, and the walls close in.
You’re on your feet in an instant. “Pardon me,” you rasp out, before almost running out of the room.
You’re not sure where you’re going. Your head is spinning, your heart is racing, everything is fading away. You stumble your way into the bathroom, locking the door behind you before your knees buckle and you hit the floor.
You claw at your throat, desperate for air. You squeeze your eyes shut, clenching your fists, desperate for pressure. When you open your eyes, you swear Wally is there.
“You’re not here,” you gasp. “You’re not real.”
Wally’s green eyes are wide, staring at you with concern. “Y/n—,”
“You’re not real! You’re just some ghost—fucking haunting me for no reason at all!”
It breaks his heart to see you like this. So sad, so hurt, barely able to breathe.
“Stop,” you choke out, “stop haunting me! Stop, stop, stop it!”
Wally hasn’t seen you have a panic attack this bad since you were kids. Curled up in a ball, gasping for air and repeating the same word over and over again. He’s desperate to help you—help you like he did back then.
He doesn’t even register what he’s doing until he pulls you into his lap, arms tight around your waist. He keeps a hand over your heart, tracing circles over it.
“Y/n, y/n…” He murmurs softly, “y/n, listen to me. Deep breath in, okay? Follow my example, feel my heart beating.”
You’re not sure how you can feel his arms on you, feel his heart beating against your back. You’re half convinced you’ve already fainted, and you’re laying on the bathroom floor having another fever dream.
Still, you follow his example. You breathe in when you feel his chest rise, and breathe out when you feel his chest fall. You stay silent for a few minutes, leaning completely against Wally until you can breathe again.
Wally rubs your hair, his other hand tracing circles on your hip bone. “How are you feeling?” He asks.
“Better,” you admit.
It takes a few minutes longer for either of you to register that he’s touching you. His hands are on your body and you can feel them.
“Wally, you’re touching me.”
“I’m touching you?”
The shock is almost enough to send you back into a panic attack. Ghosts can’t touch people, neither can fever dreams. But somehow, someway, Wally West is holding you in his arms.
—
You leave the bathroom ten minutes later, after you and Wally went back and forth on if he was really there with you or not. You insist you’re losing it, but Wally insists he’s there, and somehow when you were sick, you connected to the speed force and now you can see him.
You head back to your desk with no intention of working, set on researching the speed force and if it’s possible to connect to it without being a speedster. Of course, Google doesn’t yield the results you hope, so you decide to go a different route.
You pull out your phone and text Dick.
You: do you think you could get me Barry’s number? need it for work
Robin 1.0: I think I can manage
You: you’re the best
Robin 1.0: don’t you know it
It only takes a few minutes before he texts you his contact for Barry Allen. You waste no time in opening the contact and sending him a quick text.
Of course, you don’t get to see what he responds because suddenly your boss is over your shoulder.
“Y/n, you know what our policy is on personal devices at work. There’s too much sensitive information here.”
“I know, I know. But if I play my cards right,” your ability to think on your feet coming in handy, “I could get us an exclusive interview with the Flash.”
She lights up at that. “Okay, but remember, no pictures or recordings.”
“Sure thing,” you nod and wait for her to leave before opening up your phone and seeing that you have a new text.
You: can I ask you a few questions on the speed force?
Barry Allen: sure thing
You: i know the speedforce is like it’s own separate thing that speedsters connect to, but is it possible for non speedsters to connect to it?
Barry Allen: only under extenuating circumstances. not every ordinary person can just connect to it, but if you’ve been in contact with the speedforce unwittingly or if a speedster has accidentally shared particles with you it’s possible. why?
You: just…a theory im working on for work. we’re doing a piece on Flash Family to honour you guys for saving the world and I wanted to look into it more
You: thank you
Barry Allen: do you think you’ve been in contact with a speedster recently?
You: i don’t know, if I’m being honest.
Barry Allen: okay…keep me updated, okay? if you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to ask
You: thanks
You frown, your conversation with Barry only making you feel more confused. How would you have had contact with a speedster or the speedforce? It’s been almost a year since you last touched Wally, and there’s no way the symptoms are only coming out now. And the speedforce—there’s no way for you to have connected with it either.
You look up from your phone only to see Wally sitting on your desk, looking at you with amusement. “Get what you wanted?”
“Why are you still here?”
“What?” He holds his hand over his chest, feigning hurt. “You don’t want me here?”
You go to speak but realize your coworkers are giving you strange looks. You quickly put your phone up to your ear, pretending to be on a phone call.
“Of course I want you here. I lo—miss you, okay? But it’s not possible. You shouldn’t be here.”
“But I am, y/n. And did Barry not just confirm that to you?”
You sigh. “I will admit, what Barry said does confirm my theory, and what you said while I was sick but…”
“But?”
“It shouldn’t be possible. You were vaporized, Wally. You’re dead. So even if you are here, you’re just a ghost.”
“Ghost, schmost,” he rolls his eyes, leaning in to flick your arm. “Does that not feel real to you?”
“I don’t know, okay? Just—I need time to think. About everything.”
You don’t say it, but it lingers in the air: I need time to think about you.
You put your phone down, indicating to the boy that you’re done talking, before returning to your job. The day goes by fast when you’re contemplating if you’re actually being haunted by the ghost of your best friend or not.
Before you know it, you’re heading home. When you get through the door of the apartment, Dick is nowhere to be found. He must still be at work, you think.
You kick off your shoes and set your bag on the counter before throwing yourself on your bed. You lay down for only a minute before a familiar cologne fills your scent. One you haven’t smelled in a long time.
You don’t need to open your eyes to know that Wally is back. “What are you doing here?”
“I was hoping I could catch you changing,” you can hear the grin in his voice.
You sit up, staring at him with wide eyes. “Wait—if you’ve been here this whole time then…?”
“Yeah,” he laughs, rubbing the back of his neck. “But I didn’t! I mean, I thought about it but…it feels wrong.”
“More wrong than confessing your love to me and then dying?”
Both of you freeze after that, and your hand flies up to your mouth as if you can force the words back in there.
“I—y/n…you know that if I had a choice, I would have come back to you. Right?”
You nod, “I know. It’s fine.”
“It’s not fine,” he places a hand over yours. “I wanted to come back to you. Even though you didn’t say it back, I just thought—”
“You didn’t give me a chance to say it back! You dumped all that on me and then you ran away and left, Wally! You didn’t give me the chance!”
Your outburst surprises both of you. Wally isn’t sure what to do—if he should apologize or be angry or both or neither. So he says nothing.
“I-I think you should go, Wally. You’re only doing harm by being here. You’re dead and I need to move on and I never will if you’re just here haunting me.”
You expect him to argue or to make a joke, but the boy doesn’t do any of that. He gives you a lazy, one handed salute, like the kind he would give before speeding away as kids.
And then he disappears.
You feel sad and angry all at the same time. You know it’s not fair to Wally to lash out at him like that, but how is it fair for him to open up old wounds? For him to haunt you?
When Dick gets home, he’s surprised to see you dressed in your old costume. It’s been so long since you put it on, you look almost strange to him.
“Uh, y/n?” He asks, “not that I’m against this but, what’s up with the costume?”
“I was thinking I could go out on patrol with you tonight,” you explain. “It’s been a while. I need to blow off steam.”
“Okay, let me get changed.”
That’s good enough for you, so you settle in at the counter and wait for Nightwing to suit up. He comes out a few minutes later, clad in the black and blue Nightwing suit.
He looks at you seriously through his domino mask. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
“If I don’t get out, I’ll go stir crazy.”
“Okay, okay,” he raises his hands in surrender. “But don’t push yourself, okay? And I’ll be there the whole time.”
“Alright, dad,” you roll your eyes. “Let’s go.”
—
Patrol goes fine. It’s just the usual robberies and gang violence, nothing that you and Nightwing can’t handle. Of course, that’s until you hear there’s a bank robbery over the scanner.
The two of you are about to take off and head towards the bank when you hear the radio go off again. This time, it’s a jewellery store being robbed.
“Go!” You say to Nightwing, “you get the bank, I can handle the store.”
He seems content with that answer, grappling to the nearest rooftop and heading off towards the bank. You turn and head towards the jewellery store, hoping it’s enough to take your mind off of Wally.
You get to the store just in time to stop the robbers from shooting the owner. You knock the gun out of one of their hands, turning to fight the other one. There’s five total, maybe six, but your vision is tunnelling and all you can focus on is the adrenaline pumping through your veins and your need for a distraction.
You make your way through three of them, and just as you turn to fight the fourth, you hear someone yell from behind you.
“Y/n, look out!”
You knock out the fourth and turn around, just in time to see Wally West pass through you and punch the man in the face. He hits him hard enough to send him falling to the floor.
You stare at Wally in shock. “You—you hit him!”
“Are you okay?” He’s breathing hard, chest rising and falling rapidly.
“You saved me…” You mutter. “How did you do that?”
“I-I don’t know,” he admits, placing his hands on your shoulders. “I just didn’t want you to get hurt and then I passed through you and—”
“Dick!” You exclaim, realising you haven’t heard anything from him in a while, and that he still hasn’t returned to you. “Somethings wrong, Wal. We—I gotta go!”
Wally goes to protest, but you’re already running away. Not only are you running away, you’re running at the speed of light, yellow lightning crackling from your ankles. You don’t realize it, too focused on getting to Dick.
You arrive at the bank to see a bunch of lackeys passed out on the floor. Nightwing is leaning on a counter, holding his hands over a bullet hole in his side.
“Hey!” You cry out, skidding to a stop next to him. The bank smells gross, like gunpowder and..burning rubber? “Are you okay? Did you get them all?”
He clenched his jaw. “All but one. He headed North, there’s no way we’ll catch him. He’s probably out of town by now.”
“No, he’s not going to get away with this. We’re going to find him.”
And before Dick can ask, you’re tearing away from the bank, lightning in your wake. His jaw falls open at the sight. In the dark, with the speed you’re going and the lightning coming out, you almost look like Wally…
You run as fast as you can, keeping your eyes peeled for the man driving the truck of jewels. You catch up to him in no time, throwing your body weight against the truck fast enough to tip it over.
Your veins are electrified, pure lightning in your system, better than adrenaline ever could be. You rip the man out of the truck and toss him onto the street. It only takes one hit for you to knock him out, and only a few more seconds to tie him up.
It’s then that you realize what just happened, how fast you were going. You look down to see the soles of your shoes on fire, the thighs of your costume torn open from the fabric chafing so fast.
Something about the ruined shoes and the torn fabric makes you think of Wally, and the thought of the ghost in the bank saving your life only makes you want to run even more. Is this how he felt everytime he ran? It’s exhilarating, it only makes you want more.
You keep running, running straight up the side of a building before stopping in your tracks on the roof. How did this even happen? You look around, half expecting to see Wally there, but he’s not.
Your legs quiver, threatening to collapse beneath you. Your feet ache from all of the running and your shoes have practically disintegrated into nothing. You know you’re done for the night, your body at its absolute limit.
Your knees buckle, but before you can hit the ground, there’s a streak of yellow and suddenly Wally is holding you up against his chest.
“I—what’s going on?” You ask.
Wally holds you up with one arm, staring at his other hand. He shakes it, going fast enough to make it seem as though his hand is vibrating.
“I don’t know,” he admits. “I—something’s changed. I can feel it.”
You hear the unmistakable sound of a grappling hook before Nightwing is landing on the roof. “Holy shit, y/n. How were you going so fast? For a second there, I thought it was—Wally?”
His face pales at the sight of the redhead, clad in his Kid Flash suit, holding you up against his body. There’s no way he’s here now, alive and well, right in front of his eyes.
“You…you can see him?”
Dick is running across the roof in an instant, feet pushing him closer to his best friend. He jumps on both of you, arms wrapping around you both. “Wally,” he sobs into his shoulder. “How—how are you here?”
There’s another flash of lightning—red lightning—and suddenly The Flash is standing next to you guys. “I can answer that.”
Wally grins insanely wide, making sure you’re steady against Dick before jumping to hug his former mentor.
“How did you know I was here?” He asks.
Barry smiles, “I could feel it. In the speedforce. There was a huge amount of energy released and then for the first time in a year, I could feel you.”
“But how did that happen?” Dick interjects, before adding, “not that we’re not happy to see you.”
Wally goes back to hugging you, wiping off the tears that have slipped from your eyes and kissing the top of your forehead. “I think y/n here somehow borrowed my speed and-and opened a portal into the speedforce.”
“I brought you back?” Your voice is so quiet it’s barely a whisper.
“You brought me back!” He’s beaming at you.
He wraps his arms around your waist, spinning you in a circle. He sets you down on the ground, only to tip your head back and plant a kiss to your lips. It’s intense, passionate, full of the longing he’s felt for you since you were kids.
You wrap your arms around his shoulders, using him to keep yourself up. His body is so warm and hard under your touch, so familiar to you. You draw him closer, not even caring if Dick and Barry are standing there staring at you.
When he finally pulls away, he flashes you the biggest smile in the world. “You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for that.”
“So,” Dick awkwardly says, “why don’t we take this back to our place?”
Wally grabs your hand in his, squeezing it tightly. “I think that’s a really good idea.”
Always Been You (Dick Grayson x Reader) - Prologue

Always Been You (Dick Grayson x Reader) Reader Insert: she/her pronouns Word Count: 7839 Warnings: death, violence, fighting, bloody wounds, angst, infuriatingly oblivious love interest, slowburn Spoilers: Young Justice Seasons 1-3 plot partially, but it ended in 2022 so catch up.
Y/N Prince - miracle daughter of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor - and Dick Grayson - first adoptive son of the Batman himself - have been best friends since day one. They went to school together, trained together, kept each other's alter ego secret from everyone else, and they founded the Young Justice alongside their friends together.
But as time progressed, Y/N and Dick grew up and Y/N found herself wanting more than friendship with Dick. But he never seemed to indicate that he reciprocated her feelings. And when Wally died and Dick abandoned the team, Y/N realised he never would. So she heads to the one place she knows will help her become a stronger warrior so that one day she can take her mother's place: Themyscira.
Two years after his leave, Dick reaches out to his old friends to help him with a mission. But when he finds out Y/N left too, he chases after her in the hopes to bring her back.
However, when the two finally reunite, it isn't as warm as he hopes. Not to mention Themyscira becomes under siege as they go to war against Echidna, the Mother of Monsters in Greek Mythology, and her army of monstrous children.
Will Dick and Y/N be able to put their past behind them and save the Amazonians' homeland? Or will they fall, unable to tell one another their true feelings?
Long summary I know, but I'm attempting something that I haven't tried to do in a long time and I've had this thought in my head for ages so I've just got to get it out now. This story will cover the plot from Season One to the beginning of Season Three. Apologies if anything is vague or inaccurate, I haven't watched the show in a while and cannot be bothered going back to get it right when the main plot of this story is entirely of my own design and not canon. Also, for the sake of the growing-up-together part, I've brought Dick's family's death up so he is taken in by Bruce earlier than 12 years old. I've always loved this version of Dick Grayson (Nightwing) in Young Justice and I hope I do him justice for those of you who also loved the show and him xx

'Don't worry, my beloved,' Diana said in a soothing voice, patting her daughter's head gently as the car pulled up. 'It's not so scary on the inside.'
Wayne Manor was made of grey columns and dark shadows it seemed to little ten-year-old Y/N, who couldn't shake the feeling that the house was full of ghosts. It was an imposing structure, making her wonder how anyone would choose to live in such a cold and lifeless place.
'I want to go home, Mother,' she whimpered, backing away from the car window.
Diana turned her daughter's head to face her, giving her best reassuring smile to alleviate some of her daughter's worries. 'We will, but I need to take care of something first and I can't leave you at home alone. My very good friend has kindly offered for his butler to look after you while we sort our business out. He has a son that I think you will get along with quite well.'
Y/N couldn't believe that a child lived in the scary house outside, but she knew when not to question her mother.
Her mother was always busy, it didn't matter what time of the day or night. Y/N didn't quite know what her mother did, but she knew it was dangerous, as her mother would come home with cuts and bruises, exhausted from whatever she'd just been doing. The partial truth of it all came out just last week, as Y/N and her nanny had been attacked in their small apartment in Washington DC. The nanny had locked Y/N in the bathroom when the men attacked so Y/N didn't see what happened to her. But Y/N had heard her screams, had heard the men laughing at her anguish. She'd heard her mother finally arrive and slaughter the men. And when Y/N was finally let out of the bathroom, her mother's red, white, blue and gold metallic outfit was covered in blood, as was the sword she'd dropped as she pulled Y/N into her arms tightly.
Whatever kind of work her mother and her mother's "good friend" were involved in, if she said Wayne Manor was the safest place to be when she worked, then Y/N wouldn't argue.
It didn't stop Y/N from squeezing her mother's hand to the point of cut off circulation as they walked from the car into the scary house.
'Miss Prince,' a man in a tuxedo said in welcome. He was partially bald and his moustache twitched when he spoke.
'Alfred,' Diana said, giving the older man a warm smile. 'So good to see you again. And please, I am Diana to friends and family.'
'Of course,' Alfred said, a cheeky smile on his face, 'but forgive me if I prefer to be a little old-fashioned, Miss Prince.'
'Very well,' Diana said, turning her gaze down to Y/N. 'This is my daughter, Y/N.'
Alfred smiled warmly down at Y/N, crouching ever so slightly to hold out his hand. 'A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Y/N. Welcome to Wayne Manor.'
Y/N hesitated in taking his hand. She'd always been taught to be cautious around strangers.
'Come on, Y/N,' Diana insisted. 'Don't be rude.'
Y/N, with her free hand, accepted Alfred's outstretched one, giving it a firm shake like she'd seen her mother do with people she had meetings with at work and at home.
'My, you certainly have your mother's strength,' Alfred commented as he stood back up, shaking his hand a little. 'I'll be sure not to mess with you when you grow older.'
Y/N didn't have time to process what Alfred meant when two dark figures walked down a grand staircase into the lobby they stood in. As they drew closer to the light, Y/N distinguished one as a tall and broad-shouldered man with dark hair, neat attire, and a stern face. Beside him was a small child close to her height, also with dark hair and flashing blue eyes. Unlike the taller man, though, his face was bright with intrigue and mischief.
'Diana,' the tall man said by way of greeting as he reached the ground floor with the boy.
'Bruce,' she replied, walking herself and Y/N over to him and the boy. 'Thank you for offering to look after Y/N tonight.'
'Well, it won't be me personally,' Bruce replied, 'but I'm sure Alfred will be able to look after them while we're gone.'
'If I could raise you to be the man that you are today, Master Bruce, I am sure two beautiful children won't be much of a task,' Alfred called out casually as he closed the front door and exited the room.
'I've contacted Clark,' Bruce continued. 'He says he'll meet us at the rendezvous point. We should leave soon.'
Diana nodded. 'Okay.'
To her surprise, Y/N found Bruce's gaze on her, and his stern expression softened as he looked her over. 'This must be the famous Y/N I've heard so much about.'
Y/N remembered her mother's lessons on etiquette and nodded politely. 'Nice to meet you, Mr. Wayne.'
Bruce surprised her again as a small smile broke out, making him look younger and less intimidating than before. 'It's nice to meet you too, Y/N,' he said, looking down to the boy beside him. 'This is my ward, Richard.'
The young boy groaned in annoyance. 'It's Dick, Bruce. You know I don't like it when you use my real name.'
Bruce sighed, but conceded. 'Sorry, this is Dick. I hope the two of you get along tonight, Y/N.'
Before Y/N could reply, Dick stepped forward so that they only stood a step apart. His blue eyes were so bright as they scanned over her, and it took all of her will not to hide behind her mother.
He squinted sceptically at her. 'Do you like sparring, Y/N?'
'Dick,' Bruce exclaimed, eyes wide with horror. 'That's not something you should ask-'
Y/N ignored Bruce's protests as she locked eyes with Dick. She saw the challenge in them, and whatever fears she had about coming here faded away. A fire sparked in her, and she couldn't help herself but grab Dick's unsuspecting wrist and flip him over her and land him on his back. Before he could get up, she pressed a knee to his neck softly as she held him down.
'Y/N!' Diana exclaimed. 'That is not how we treat-'
She was cut off by the sound of Dick laughing, a sound so pure and light it brightened up the gloomy interior of the manor. Dick looked up at Y/N, not even bothered by the fact she was an inch away from cutting off his airway. 'Oh yeah, we're going to get along just fine, Bruce.'
The last of her apprehension to the arrangement disappeared as she released Dick from her death grip and helped him to his feet, a bright smile gracing her features.
'Where'd you learn to flip like that?' Dick asked.
'My mother,' she answered proudly. 'We've practiced for thirty minutes everyday since I was eight. I've also been taking classes back in Washington in judo and karate.'
'Cool!' Dick said. 'Maybe you can teach me some moves?'
'Sure!' Y/N answered.
Without even hesitating, Dick grabbed Y/N's hand and took off running to who knew where, words falling from him like a dam that had just been broken. 'Awesome! And then I can show you some of the cool gymnast tricks I picked up in the circus.'
'You were in the circus? That's so cool!'
The two of them were lost in their own world as Bruce and Diana remained in the lobby, looking after their children lovingly before they disappeared completely. When silence filled the room once more, they turned to each other.
'How much does she know?' Bruce asked.
Diana sighed. 'Enough to know that she will never have a normal life. Not after the incident last week. I thought I had a bit more time.'
Bruce placed a hand on his friend's shoulder comfortingly. 'I'm sorry, Diana. Truly. It's hard enough protecting a child who isn't your own. At least Dick has known death before. He knows everything.'
Diana nodded her appreciation, patting Bruce's hand before he let it drop. 'She will know, one day, what all this means. What her destiny is. Until now she has shown how much of Steve she has in her.' Diana paused at the memory of her fallen lover, feeling the tears rise up whenever she thought of him. 'But I fear she will grow to inherit my power, my responsibilities. I don't know if I'm ready to let her become that for the world. Not yet.'
'Diana,' Bruce said softly, 'she might not have a choice one day. I fear the same thing for Dick. You and I won't be around forever. The world will look to them to help, one day.'
Somewhere in the distance, Y/N and Dick's laughter resonated through the manor, giving it a warmth Bruce hadn't felt in a while. He smiled at the sensation. 'But for now, they have a choice. They can choose to be kids. Until the world no longer needs us.'

'Uuuuuuuughhhhhhhhhhh,' Y/N groaned as she flopped onto Dick's bed, textbook flattening over her face in defeat. 'I give up. I'm never going to pass this infuriating maths exam next week.'
All Y/N received was an amused laugh from the dark-haired boy, resulting in her throwing her textbook at his head where we sat on the floor. But Dick had always been quick, dodging the book easily. He was even more quick since they'd started training with each other since she moved to Gotham permanently for school.
She was enrolled at the same school as Dick: Gotham Academy. It was the best school in the area, and when she'd received her scholarship, her mother couldn't refuse her wishes to move. Y/N stayed in the boarding house for the most part, but being friends with the Bruce Wayne's only son certainly had its perks. Such as getting out of the boarding house whenever she needed to study and train without prying eyes.
Dick laughed again. 'Come on, Y/N,' he said, picking up her strewn textbook and offering it back to her. 'It's not so bad. We're just trying to find x.'
Y/N rolled over onto her stomach so Dick wasn't upside down anymore. 'Yes, and it is impossible! I mean, they give us nothing to try and figure out a and b, but we need them both to find out x. How?!'
When Y/N didn't take her book back, Dick put it on the ground and shuffled forwards. He did so until he was half an arm's length away from Y/N's face where it rested in her hands.
'All right, let's have a break,' he said. 'Focus on something else. How about... Ooo, I know! What would your vigilante name be?'
Y/N's eyebrows furrowed. 'What?'
'Your vigilante name,' Dick reported. 'You know, like a code name for ordinary people to refer you by. Like Bruce for example, he's Batman.'
'So like my mother too, who is Wonder Woman,' Y/N added.
Dick nodded. 'Correct. When we start fighting bad guys - and we will some day - we will need alter egos so villains don't pursue us outside of an ordinary mission.'
Y/N sat up as Dick jumped to his feet, pulling out all kinds of ninja-karate moves, many of which Y/N had taught him herself over the last year. 'I think I'll be something winged too. Batman needs to be accompanied by another flying animal, don't you think?'
'That is... logical,' Y/N admitted, though not understanding his motives for the specific topic. 'I haven't given much thought to the matter, honestly. I'm too busy trying to find this dumb x value.'
Dick landed a slam kick against thin air before he took up a normal standing position in front of Y/N. He smiled down proudly at her. 'I was thinking of just bird,' he confessed, taking a seat beside her on his bed, 'but then I thought that was boring. Batman and Bird, yeah sooooo intimidating. So I was thinking maybe Hawk, or Sparrow-'
'Why does it have to be intimidating?' Y/N asked.
Dick paused for the first time in the conversation and looked at her as if she was crazy. 'Because Batman is intimidating. I don't want to be seen as a sissy when I rock up beside him to fights. I defs won't feel the aster, then.'
'But shouldn't a hero be giving people reassurance and hope when they come to save people?' Y/N countered. 'Why would you want to be something that all people dread when you enter the door. I think a hero's name should be strong and encouraging. Something like my mother's.'
Dick rolled his eyes. 'You're just saying that because she's you're mum.'
Y/N shook her head. 'No I'm not. I've seen it first hand. When my mother shows up to lend a hand, the people cry with joy and relief because they know she will do all that she can to save them. I'm not saying Batman - Bruce - doesn't do the same thing, but I just know that when I have to be a hero, I would hope my name inspires people to keep hoping. Not fear me.'
Y/N watched Dick process her words, saw his piercing blue eyes grow distant as he looked down at his hands. For a moment, Y/N worried she'd ruined everything. That she'd overstepped. Dick and Bruce's relationship - it was more of an arrangement, in her opinion - was tenuous to say the least, the two of them always dancing on a very thin line that could snap at any moment when push comes to shove. Either way, it wasn't her place to comment on how Dick should handle his relationship to Bruce.
However, when Dick looked up to Y/n again, she was relieved to find he wasn't angry at her. In fact, a soft smile had bloomed on his lips.
'You're right,' he said softly. 'I don't have to be scary. Bruce has that all covered.'
'Glad to hear it,' Y/N replied with a a reciprocal smile. 'So... anymore ideas on your name?'
'Well, I still believe it's got to be a bird of sorts,' Dick answered. 'But let's steer clear of the birds of prey, shall we? Maybe Jaybird, or Bluebird. No, that's stupid. Raven? Nah, that's going backwards...'
'How about Robin?' Y/N suggested, and Dick's smile broadened to the point Y/N was scared he'd split his mouth right open.
'That's perfect!' he exclaimed, bringing her into a hug. 'Batman and Robin. It's got a nice ring to it, doesn't it?'
'It sure does,' Y/N said, grateful to have helped.
When Dick let her go, he said, 'Now how about you? What do you think your vigilante name should be?'
Y/N thought about it for a moment, but could only come up with one name. 'I like Wonder Woman, but mother already has that. I don't think two of us would make it easy for the public, especially if she is still working.'
'That is true,' Dick replied, turning away from her as he delved into deep thought. Y/N could tell he was thinking deeply as his tongue was poking out ever so slightly - the thing he always did when he was concentrating really hard. Y/N always found it amusing since the day she met him.
Y/N jumped a little when Dick suddenly cried out with excitement. He turned back to her and grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to look directly at him. 'How about we take inspiration from your mother? Use part of her name to create yours. Like Wonder Girl!'
Y/N shook her head. 'No, that's really lame, Dick.'
'Wonder Kid?'
'No.'
'Wonder... Child?'
'No!'
Dick snapped his fingers and his eyes brightened as Y/N assumed a great thought popped into his head. 'I've got it: Wonderess! You know, like Wonder Woman and goddess put together!'
'Wonderess...' Y/N tested it out on her tongue, and she smiled at how easy it rolled off. It was simple, it was to the point. She could just hear the world now, shouting and screaming and crying her name for joy, for help.
She couldn't stop her smile from widening and matching Dick's. 'I love it.'
'Great!' Dick slid back down to the floor and grabbed the forgotten textbook she'd thrown at him earlier. 'Now, oh mighty and powerful Wonderess, time for you to conquer the alluding and difficult enemy that is mathematics.'
Despite her earlier anguish, Y/N felt rejuvenated and took the book from Dick and opened it back to the page she'd failed to understand. 'Then conquer mathematics we shall, oh sneaky and charming Robin.'
Dick flashed her one of his dazzling smiles. 'Oh yeah, I can see it now. Robin is going to be popular with the ladies when I'm older.'
Y/N rolled her eyes, but couldn't contain her smile. 'Don't make me throw this book at you again.'
Dick raised his hands in mock surrender before they both dove back into their respective homework. But after five minutes of work, Y/N had another thought.
'Dick. What does "aster" mean?' ~~~
(13 years)
When Y/N had walked into the Hall of Justice earlier that day, she never imagined that she'd end up helping her best friend and the sidekicks of the Flash and Aquaman break into a top secret and highly secured lab centre, get captured by the mad scientists running the show down there, break out and now be standing in front of the Justice League as a Superman look-alike (that they'd broke into for and out of with) stared down his creation's inspiration.
'Start talking' Batman said, finally breaking the tense silence.
Between Kaldur, Wally, Dick, and Y/N (Superboy, Y/N realised early on, didn't talk much), the story of how they ended up at Cadmus and pretty much destroyed it was eventually told. Afterwards, the blockbuster monster they'd fought was taken away by Green Lantern and some other League members. Y/N couldn't help but peak at her mother as Wonder Woman herself conversed with Superman and Martian Manhunter. For a brief moment, Diana looked her daughter's way then quickly averted her gaze. But Y/N knew from that one look that her mother was unimpressed by her actions today.
'Cadmus will be investigated,' Batman said, after Superman said a frosty goodbye to his younger clone. 'All fifty-two levels. But let's make one thing clear-'
'You should've called!' the Flash finished, crossing his arms, clearly disappointed in his sidekick's efforts.
'End results aside, we are not happy,' Batman continued. 'You hacked Justice League systems; you disobeyed direct orders; and you endangered lives. You will not be doing this again.'
Y/N's heart faltered at the very notion. Despite the wreckage and the stress and the struggles they had faced, Y/N very much liked working with Dick, with Kaldur and Wally too. Even the Superboy was enjoyable at some points. To never work with them again was not something she expected she would miss after one mission.
Kaldur and the other boys must've read her mind, as he stepped forward, standing tall and speaking with a strong voice well beyond his years. 'I'm sorry,' he began, eyes never leaving Batman, 'but we will.'
'Aqualad,' Aquaman started, stepping up behind Batman. 'Stand down.'
'Apologies, my King. But no,' Aqualad replied. 'We did good work here tonight. The work you trained us to do. Together. On our own. We forged something powerful. Important.'
'If this is about your treatment at the hall,' the Flash started, 'the four of you-'
'The five of us,' Wally corrected, looking directly at Superboy as he did, 'and it's not.'
'Batman,' Dick said, stepping to the front of the group. 'We're ready to use what you taught us. Or why teach us at all?'
'Why let them tell us what to do?' Superboy interrupted, pushing past Dick to take the lead. 'It's simple, get on board. Or get out of the way.'
Y/N joined her friends in staring down the heads of the Justice League. It was an intimidating figure they all posed, but Y/N knew she was doing the right thing. That her and her friends had done the right thing tonight.
Diana joined Batman, the Flash, and Martian Manhunter, her face unreadable and voice monotone. 'Are you sure this is the path you would like to forge, Wonderess?' she asked, her voice echoing in the crater they stood in.
Apart from Dick and Bruce, no one else (to Y/N's knowledge) knew that Wonder Woman and Wonderess were related in any manner. Not that either disguised themselves like other heroes did - purposefully hiding their faces to conceal their identities like Batman and the Flash - but neither outwardly acknowledged their true relationship either.
However, Y/N could tell her mother wasn't just asking her as her sidekick, but as her daughter. Was Y/N really prepared to risk all she had trained for, for some... strangers?
Y/N eyed the golden lasso that hung at her mother's hip, and opened her hand to summon the seemingly never-ending rope into her hand. It wrapped around several times, then glowed as Y/N clenched a tight fist around it.
'I am more certain than I have ever been, Wonder Woman,' Y/N replied, feeling the lasso urge her to speak all her truth. 'While I still endeavour to one day be your successor, my place is with my friends right now. We need to walk this path together, wherever it leads. I know this to be absolute truth.'
Y/N sucked in a breath as she let go of the lasso, feeling slightly drained from the power it had over her. Dick put a hand on her back to brace her as she recovered. Once Y/N had caught her breath, she spared Dick a grateful smile, which he reciprocated.
Just as it had been from day one, they would ride this wave together. No matter how rough.
The very next day, the five of them were taken to Mount Justice, the backup facility for the Justice League as Batman explained. Upon arrival, they met M'gann, Martian Manhunter's niece, and soon after Artemis was brought into the mix.
Soon, they were the Young Justice.

'Congratulations team, you have won the day,' Red Tornado said as he laid dismembered on the ground.
The rest of the team had just reconnected as the Justice computer phased a date and time code onto one of the glass walls of the Watchtower. It read: January 01, 00:00 EST.
'Happy New Year, Justice League,' the computer announced.
To no one's surprise, Wally picked up Artemis and pulled her in for a long-awaited kiss. M'gann and Connor paired up, so did Rocket and Aqualad surprisingly.
Y/N felt uncomfortable watching them all making out, so she turned to her best friend so they could give them all some privacy. 'Hey Dick, let's go-'
But as she turned around, Y/N saw that Dick had also paired off with someone: Zatanna. This time, Y/N couldn't help but stare as the two of them made out.
Since day one of Zatanna joining the team, Y/N had noticed Dick had a thing for her. Who wouldn't? She was beautiful, she was just a year older than them but that just made her more desirable, and she was good with magic!
Something stirred inside Y/N, something that twisted her guts to the point she thought she'd throw up. Was it jealousy? No, she wasn't the jealous type. Besides, Dick was her best friend, no one could change that. He could kiss whoever he wanted to kiss. At the end of the day, they'd still talk and laugh and spar and go get ice cream together.
...Right?
'Human customs still allude me,' Red Tornado said from his place on the floor.
'You're not the only one...' Y/N mumbled to herself, standing all alone.

Y/N was just sparring on a test dummy when Dick entered the training ring looking a little worse for wear, his usual mischievous smile not visible.
'Hey,' Y/N said, finishing up her combo of kicks and punches, heaving in deep breaths. 'What's up, bird brain?'
He didn't reply straight away, instead standing on the edge of the fight ring as if afraid to step out of the shadows and into the light. Y/N raised an eyebrow in confusion. 'Dick?'
When he didn't respond again, Y/N walked over to him. And when she got closer, she realised why he remained in the darkness.
'Have you been crying?' she asked softly, scared to speak too loud in case he ran away.
Dick wasn't an emotional guy. He just wasn't. He was the mischievous gremlin who kept the team together with his witty remarks, charm, and sheer intelligence. And even though Kaldur had been the leader of their team for years now, Dick always wanted to be a leader like Bruce was for the Justice League. He never gave himself room to be emotional.
So for him to stand in front of Y/N with red-rimmed eyes and tear marks streaking down his face, whatever had just happened had to be so impactful it finally broke his resolve.
He averted his eyes. 'Zatanna,' he started, biting his lip to suppress sobs falling out between the words. 'She broke up with me.'
Subconsciously, Y/N had been dreaming about hearing those words for a long time. She didn't quite understand why, as Zatanna was a close friend and Dick was by far her best friend so of course she only ever wanted happiness for them. But now that Dick stood in front of her so broken and sad, Y/N only felt sorry and remorse.
'Oh Dick,' she said. 'I'm so sorry... How can I help?'
Dick shook his head vigorously, eyes still averted from her. 'Can you just... Can we spar please? I think I really need that right now.'
His tone was restrained, as if he were holding back what he really thought. Y/N had half a thought to suggest they just talk, but when he finally looked directly at her, how could she refuse her best friend? After all, she was the only one he never wore his glasses around. Even after all these years with the team, he trusted no one else but her with his identity.
The original members knew, but even then he still wore his shades around them half the time if he wasn't in his vigilante suit. But not around Y/N, though. Never around Y/N.
'All right,' Y/N conceded, walking with him back to the centre of the fighting ring. She stood in her usual starting position, hands raised and feet split ready to fight. 'Same rules as last time?'
Dick nodded. 'No flying from you, no gadgets from me. Just us.'
'Perfect.'
Y/N launched into a heated sparring match, much more heated than any other match she'd had before with him. Sparring matches are usually to practice a skill, usually some punches can be pulled. But not now, Dick was throwing himself into everything, becoming sloppy, opening himself up. While the first few jabs Y/N got in were small victories, she soon grew worried as he grew more and more reckless as the match progressed.
'You're opening yourself up too easily, Dick,' Y/N commented between heavy breaths. 'Tighten up your stance.'
Dick groaned with frustration in answer, throwing another punch at her which she easily ducked and palm-punched his abdomen hard. He stumbled back as he caught his breath, but Y/N took it as her chance to end the fight as she charged at him, crash-tackled him to the mat with a bit more super-strength than she'd been using and pinning his limbs to the ground.
Dick struggled under her, but she refused to let go. 'Concede, Grayson. Now,' she demanded.
She rarely used his last name, only when he was in serious trouble or when she really needed him to listen. So he stopped, and he looked up at her and he nodded. 'I concede,' he said between huffs of air.
Y/N nodded her head in acknowledgement before stepping off him and helping him to his feet. For years they had been the same height, but once Dick had hit fourteen, he shot up fast. He was still lean and more on the skinny side, but he was toned in certain places and he now stood a head taller than Y/N. But she didn't let his new height stop her from locking eyes with him.
'Do you feel... somewhat better now?' she asked cautiously, feeling that Dick was on the brink of an explosion, she was just unsure what kind it would be.
To her surprise, Dick's piercing blue eyes welled up with tears. 'No,' he said.
Y/N immediately wrapped her arms around him, and Dick fell into her and wrapped himself around her as if she were a warm blanket on a cold night. They stood like that - with Dick crying silently into her shoulder and Y/N rubbing soothing circles into his back - for who knew how long. A minute, two, an hour maybe. It didn't matter, Dick needed Y/N'S help so she would stay there as long for as it took.
'She said she couldn't do it anymore,' he said finally, tears finally finished running, but he still didn't break from Y/N's embrace. 'The long distance.'
'Being promoted to the Justice League is a huge commitment, Dick,' Y/N offered.
'It's not just that, though,' he said. 'I think she couldn't take me anymore. Ever since Jason-'
His voice cracked on the mention of his fallen brother, the next ward Bruce had taken under his wing. When he joined the team, Jason took over the Robin mantle, giving Dick freedom to explore a new path of vigilante identity. One outside of Bruce's shadow and the dynamic duo of Batman and Robin. He'd settled upon Nightwing - another name Y/N helped come up with - and he'd taught Jason everything he knew about being Robin and how he could find his own meaning for the role.
But Jason never got the chance to do the same for the next Robin, who Bruce mentioned would never be found after Jason's death. Jason had been killed on a mission with the Batman himself only a month ago, and Dick had secretly been a wreck ever since. He'd learnt from his sponsor who to hide his emotions, but Y/N assumed he had to let it out to someone or someones every so often. Those people were herself, and no doubt Zatanna.
Despite her bubbly and adventurous personality, Zatanna knew death, knew grief. It suddenly angered Y/N at the thought that Zatanna had dumped Dick because he was grieving and couldn't give her the attention he had become known to give her daily.
Y/N held her tongue as she pulled him tighter, though. Now was not the time to rub salt into his open and bloody wound.
'You don't have to explain yourself to me, Dick,' Y/N reassured him. 'I understand.'
He squeezed her tighter. 'First my family, then Jason, now Zatanna. Promise me you won't leave too. Promise.'
'I promise, Dick,' Y/N answered. 'I'll always be here if you need me.'
Dick finally pulled away from her, but only far enough that he still held her in his arms and she had to angle her head harshly upwards to look him in the eye. Despite the redness, Dick's eyes still shone a blue that didn't seem quite real - like the colour of the purest, cleanest ocean.
So beautiful.
'You're my best friend, Y/N,' he said softly, a grateful smile finally breaking through his sadness. 'You know that right?'
Once upon a time, Y/N wouldn't have hesitated in answering. Yes, she would say, because it was the truth. It was the truth still, but a discomforting feeling in her stomach squirmed at the words "best friend". What he meant to her went past the simple label, at least in her opinion. But she just couldn't quite put it into words yet.
'Y-Yeah, I know,' she stammered out quickly. She had paused way too long to answer. 'Just like you're mine, bird brain. Don't think a bunch of tears is going to scare me off so easily.'
She was so glad to be the one to make him laugh then. It was the most melodic sound she'd ever heard, even though she'd heard it a thousand times before. Dick could never be tiring to her.
Finally - and thankfully - Dick stepped out of her arms, allowing her to suck in air that had previously been missing from between them. But he stole it all right back when he flashed her that charming smile of his.
'Guess I'll see you tomorrow, Wonderess,' he said. 'Thanks again for the sparring. I'll be sure to tighten up for next time.'
'G-Great, good, excellent,' Y/N stumbled over her words, unable to breathe when he smiled so causally yet so beautifully at her. 'See you tomorrow.'
Dick gave her a tiny wave as he left the room. As he left, Artemis and M'gann strolled in wearing civvies. They greeted and farewelled Dick before continuing to walk to Y/N, who stood frozen where Dick had left her staring after him.
'You okay, Y/N?' Artemis asked, waving a hand in front of Y/N's face. 'Helloooooo. Earth to Y/N?'
'Maybe she's fallen into a hypnotic state,' M'gann suggested. 'Or worse! A mind ant has taken over her brain! I'll have to go inside her mind to weed it out.'
That finally disrupted Y/N from her stupor. 'No! No need for that. No mind ants here,' she frantically said just M'gann was about to enter her mind.
'Then why were you looking like Medusa had risen from her mythical death and frozen you in place?' Artemis asked, deadpan.
'First of all, Medusa was a real person. Greek Mythology is real, or therefore my mother and I wouldn't be here today,' Y/N countered. 'Second of all... I think I a have a crush on Dick.'
As soon as she said the words, she knew them to be true. She didn't need to discuss it with the girls, she already knew.
Y/N Prince, daughter of Wonder Woman, had a huge, fat crush on her best friend, and son of Batman himself, Richard 'Dick' Grayson.
'Shit,' all three girls said at once.

Y/N watched with sad eyes as two of her closest friends walked away under the cover of darkness. Again. Kaldur and Artemis - the latter now legally dead - waved farewell before they entered a small submarine, on their way to continue infiltration of the Light on Kaldur's father's ship.
Two figures stepped up beside Y/N. 'Well,' Wally started, 'I guess that's that.'
'For now,' Dick said. 'I promise, Wally, we'll bring them both back.'
'Yeah, whatever,' Wally said, turning to leave. 'You're my bro, Dick. But if Artemis is really killed because of this, I will never forgive you.'
Wally's footsteps resounded through the empty fishing warehouse as Y/N continued to stare out at the ocean. Soon, it was just her and Dick.
'We should head back to headquarters,' Dick suggested. 'Someone might start to wonder where we are.'
But Y/N didn't turn to leave, still transfixed by the ocean. 'I thought I was okay with all this,' Y/N admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. 'I convinced myself that this was for the greater good. But now I'm not so sure.'
'What do you mean, Y/N?' Dick asked.
'The lying, Dick,' she answered, finally turning to him. 'The secrets, the faking of deaths and undercover betrayals. If we keep this up, it'll tear the team apart.'
'It won't,' Dick reassured her, his voice so certain and sure. 'When this is all over and we explain it all, they will understand. I expect some disappointment and hostility for a while, but one day they'll understand why we did what we did. But this team we've built, Y/N, it is stronger than all this. I know it.'
Y/N shook her head, wanting to believe him but unable to put aside the horrible feeling in her gut. 'I know they are strong. I just wish there was another way for us to win.'
'Trust me, if there was, I would've taken it,' Dick said, and even with a mask on, Y/N knew he was telling the truth. 'I want all of us fighting this together. For now, we've just got to trust in Kaldur and Artemis that they will succeed.'
Y/N nodded, her gaze returning to the flat ocean waters where her friends had long since left behind. 'Maybe you should've sent me like I suggested,' Y/N said half-heartedly. 'You're a great substitute for leader, Dick. Truly. But the team took Kaldur's betrayal heavily, and Artemis and Wally were out of the game. We shouldn't have brought them back in. Wonder Girl is trained up enough to take my place. You don't need me.'
'Don't say that.'
Y/N could barely react as she was grabbed by her shoulders and forced to face Dick, who had crouched so he was eye-level to her and leaned in so she could see the slightest gleam of his pupils through the white mask.
'Don't say that,' Dick repeated, his grip on her shoulders firm and grounding. 'We do need you. You're a founding member too, Y/N. Regardless of if it were Kaldur or not, the team would've struggled without any one of us. And the only reason I was able to lead this team this past year is because I knew you had my back the entire time.'
'Really?' she asked, the one word a struggle to get out.
His expression softened and he loosened his grip. But Dick didn't release her yet. 'Y/N, you are always the one giving hope to the team whenever I can't raise their spirits. You were the one to console them after Kaldur leaving. You are strong and brave and you never give up, especially when the chips are down. And they have been down on us a lot lately.'
Y/N caught her breath as Dick released one shoulder to use his pointer finger to hold her chin up, making her look directly at him. 'It kills me that you don't see yourself how everyone else sees you. Which is amazing, Y/N. Amazing and wonderful.'
Y/N swore Dick could hear her heart thudding rapidly against her chest. In the two years since realising it, her crush on her best friend hadn't faded like she'd hoped. Instead, it had grown and blossomed but Dick still couldn't see how much she absolutely adored him. She'd resigned herself to the fact that he would never feel that way about her, and also if they were to date, then it would just make working together all the more complicated. She couldn't compromise on the team's relationship.
But as Y/N looked into Dick's eyes now, a little spark of hope flickered inside her. He was so close to her, he had to feel her heartbeat. He had to know... right?
A wind of doubt blew out the spark and she stepped away from Dick so her head would stop spinning. 'You just had to get a pun in there, didn't you?' she said, surprised at how calm and casual her voice came out all things considered.
Dick took a moment to gather himself, as if he too had been lost deep in thought. But soon that infamous smile of his stretched his lips and Y/N knew she could never say no to him. 'What can I say? I'm an opportunist.'
'I thought you were a gymnast.'
'I am also your best friend, and so I am legally obliged to slip in puns about you whenever possible.'
'Oh, do you now?' Y/N asked, lightly shoving him as she made for the warehouse door. Dick was right, they needed to head home before anyone started questioning their whereabouts.
Dick quickly caught up. 'I mean it Y/N. You are my best friend.'
'I know,' Y/N said nonchalantly, trying not to let the words sting too much. But she managed a soft smile as she said, 'And you are mine. Always have been...'
Dick flashed her a genuine smile, no charm, no hidden agenda behind it. He held his pinky finger up, to which Y/N linked her own with. '...Always will be,' he finished.
As they went home, Y/N felt better about Kaldur and Artemis' mission, as well as her place in the team. But she was now even more confused about Dick and how he felt about her. They were best friends, had been through so much together, it wouldn't be wise to ruin all that now.
But the way he'd looked at her, maybe there was a chance after all.

'You're leaving?'
Y/N and Kaldur couldn't believe what they'd just heard. One minute, the three of them were discussing the team's next move after foiling the Reach's invasion plans and splitting the Light in half, and the next...
'That's correct,' Dick said. 'I just... I think I need to take a break for a while.'
'For how long?' Y/N asked, finally getting over the initial shock of his announcement. It had been a hectic day, full of surprises and sacrifices nobody saw coming. Right now, in her opinion, everyone needed to band together, not... leave.
Dick shrugged his shoulders. 'I don't know. But it definitely won't be quick. This team has been my whole life for five years now. I think it's time I stepped away, let Kaldur take the reins again.'
'The team will not be the same without you,' Kaldur offered.
'The team already isn't the same,' Dick said solemnly, and the slightest crack in his voice indicated to Y/N what he was referring to. 'You, me, Y/N, Wally. We founded this team. Without him...'
Dick didn't need to finish. Y/N had felt Wally's absence since the moment he fazed out of existence. He saved the world, but he'd been too slow to combat the chrysalis' energy. Not even the Flash or Impulse could save him. It made Y/N so mad, because Wally must've known he wouldn't come out of it alive. He knew he was too slow, having been out of the game for so long.
And yet he did it anyway, because that was who Wally West - Kid Flash - was.
'I understand,' Kaldur said, placing a comforting hand on Dick's shoulder.
'Thanks,' Dick said, then looked to the boom tubes of the Watchtower. 'I should probably go.'
'What? Now?' Y/N asked. 'At least see the day through, Dick.'
'There's nothing else for me to see through, Y/N,' he countered, already making his way to the boom tubes to make his exit. 'Kaldur is back, and so is the Justice League. I am no longer needed.'
Kaldur didn't follow Y/N as she chased after Dick. 'At least let the team know personally you'll be leaving. Don't you think they deserve that much from you after all we've done?'
'All I did was sign Wally's death sentence,' Dick answered harshly, not even bothering to turn around and face her. 'Yeah, the team really deserves that from their substitute leader.'
The two of them stopped before the boom tubes, facing each other one last time. Y/N grabbed Dick's wrist before he could dial in his code to exit the Watchtower.
'Dick, please,' Y/N pleaded, voice tight with desperation. 'I know you're hurting right now. We all are feeling Wally's death. But the team needs you right now. I need you...'
It was a last ditch attempt at convincing him that he meant more to her than just a friend. That he was her glue, that he was important to her and the team. That, even if he was nothing else, he was her best friend, and she was his.
Always have been... Always will be.
Don't go, she wanted to say, but the words never came out. It's like Dick had always been a part of her life; she now couldn't imagine her life without his witty remarks, without his odd use of words like "aster" and "traught", without his charming smile and kind eyes. She couldn't imagine life without him. Please, don't go.
Dick's sad expression told her he'd made his mind up before he even spoke the words.
'I'm sorry, Y/N,' he said softly, pulling her into a gentle embrace where he pressed a feather-light kiss to her forehead. 'But I can't deal with this right now.'
As if in a dream, Dick stepped out of the embrace and dialled in his code for the boom tube.
'B:01 - NIghtwing,' the computer announced as the boom tube activated.
Dick was a step away from leaving Y/N behind when she called out, 'Don't be a stranger!'
She knew he had already made his mind up. But that didn't mean the two of them couldn't still be what they had always been. Best friends.
To her joy, Dick stopped and turned back around, a melancholic smile on his face as he held up his pinky finger. 'Always have been...'
Y/N reciprocated his smile as she too held up her pinky finger, imagining hooking it with his. '...Always will be,' she replied softly.
And then he was gone, and Y/N was left standing alone in the Watchtower.
She didn't realise she was crying until Dick was gone, until her senses had returned fully and felt the sensation of tears rolling down her face. That's when she acknowledged she was truly, utterly, hopelessly sad.
Because for the first time in seven years, Dick was no longer by her side. She didn't have Dick to fall back on when things got tough; she didn't have Dick to talk to about her issues with the new recruits; she didn't have Dick to laugh with after a night out at the arcade where he had failed epically at every game; she didn't have Dick reassuring her that everything would be okay, even when the world was telling them otherwise.
Dick was gone, and that was something Y/N had never expected to deal with.
'Wonderess.'
Y/N wiped her tears away before she turned to see who had called her. It was Kaldur, and based on his sympathetic expression, she knew he had heard everything.
'Batman and the rest of the Justice League wants to speak with us all,' he said.
'Right,' Y/N said, composing herself before walking over to join her friend.
Dick was gone, but she was still an integral part of Young Justice, and they needed her more now than ever. Whatever was to come their way now, they had to be strong, a united front.
Even if her heart yearned for someone who had completely abandoned her.
