That's what I'm SAYING! The strength in his character comes from the way he upholds his decency, kindness and morality despite the cruelty the world has shown him. That's not to say that he doesn't sacrifice his morals when the situation calls for it, otherwise he never would have even joined the Dregs to begin with (let alone make the contributions he made to them) and would just let himself die in the Barrel. He does what he needs to to survive, but "he hadn't let his circumstances knock the goodness out of him". His goodness is so often treated as a sign of weakness, vulnerability or "softness" (in the degrading sense, that is, because having a softness to you isn't inherently a bad thing) and I'm tired of it.
