Overwatch Events: Soldier 1776

So, we are a couple hours off of the Archives Events starting and we have gotten another skin, not Symmetra, unfortunately, but a Soldier 76 skin. It's called Soldier 1776; it is a play on words of his name and the year 1776 which I will talk more about in my skin review.

Anyways, here is the Overwatch Twitter video announcing the skin and I hope you all are hyped! Only a little while longer!

Overwatch Events: 2021 Archives Skins Review

I mentioned that I was going to go over all of the new stuff we get this year, so this is going to be a skin review! I'll go over any information I could find about what inspired each skin and my opinions on each skin.

This is a long post so the TLDR is now going to be at the top! More explanation about my opinions and about the skins themselves are under the cut.

TLDR: My favorite skins going from least to greatest are; Bushi Genji, Mousquetaire Widowmaker, Solider 1776, Polyanitsa Zarya, and Cavalry Tracer.

Epic Skins: Weekly Challenges

Corredor Lucio(Week 1): I think it's alright, I mean it's an epic skin so it's nothing insane. I like the tattoos on his arms and the fire design on his skates, but I'm not a fan of his hair and hat.

Subaquatic Zenyatta(Week 2): Out of all three skins I like this one the most. I love the bronze, gold, and teal blue color scheme that makes him look like an old submarine. I also like the worn and damaged look.

Camouflage Mercy(Week 3): I really like the black hair on Mercy, but my problem with the skin is that there isn't more gold. I like the camo, but it would be even better with more gold that would match with her halo. (she also now looks like a Karen lmao)

Legendary Skins: Loot Boxes

Cavalry Tracer: I'm pretty sure that this is my favorite skin out of this event. I love the gold detail; I think that it works well with the red, blue, white, and black color scheme, but my favorite part of the skin is her guns. I love the wood grain and metallic effect; I also like it on her arm things. The name of the skin, while being a play on her catchphrase, is also the uniform that the British soldiers wore in the 18th century.

Polyanitsa Zarya: This is my second favorite skin all because of her gun and because of the story behind the skin. I do like the skin itself, but I think that the gun makes it even better. In this skin, Zarya is supposed to be a Polyanitsa which is a warrior woman from Slavic legends and folklore. While scrolling through my Twitter feed I found a thread made by overfire_ru on Twitter about all of the lore behind the Zarya skin. It's really interesting and made me move this skin up on my list. Overfire_ru's Twitter thread about the Zarya skin.

Soldier 1776: This is my third favorite skin. I think that it looks pretty cool overall and I especially like the George Washington hair. I also saw a tweet from the Washington Justice twitter that pointed out that on his upper arms, he has these bronze gold shields that say 76 on them which I think is pretty cool. Also, the name Soldier 1776 is a reference to the American Revolution, and his outfit is supposed to be similar to the uniforms American soldiers wore during the revolution.

Mousquetaire Widowmaker: I like this skin a lot, but it is my second to least favorite skin. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I like the other skins more. I love her gun and her outfit is pretty cool looking, but I don't like her hat too much. The feather is okay, but I think her hair should be longer. This skin, like the name suggests, is based on the 18th Century Mousquetaires, also known as musketeers. Mousquetaires/musketeers were famous for protecting the royal family and for being daring, charismatic, and dramatic.

Overwatch Events: 2021 Archives Skins Review

Bushi Genji: I think that this skin is alright, but it's my least favorite skin for this event. The shurikens and sword look really good, but I really don't like the look of the helmet. Genji's signature green stripe thing looks really out of place, and it isn't like they haven't gotten rid of it before, Genji's Kendoka Summer Games skin is an example. Like the other skins, this skin has roots in Japan's history, Genji's birthplace. "Bushi" means "warrior" in Japanese and is used to refer to samurai who would protect feudal landlords.

Anyways, I'm going to be posting a new master list I made for all posts I do about events. That will be posted soon, then I will post about other Archives 2021 Event items.

Overwatch 2 Theories: Possible Old Guard Team

While thinking about theories I could make, I chose to rewatch the origin stories and cinematics. In the Recall cinematic, I zeroed down on something new. After his fight with Reaper, Winston chooses to recall Overwatch, and we get to see a bunch of old guard Overwatch profiles (actually, I was inspired by one of the profiles to write my Blackwatch tank post). So, I am going to talk about some of the other profiles you can see in the Recall cinematic.

TLDR: In the profiles from the Recall cinematic, there are four images that make me think the people in them were part of a strike team. They all have similar black and blue outfits. We only know one of the characters, the woman, Kimiko. Also, one of the characters, the man with the Overwatch beret, was probably the strike team leader. They probably have 2 DPS, 1 tank, and 1 support.

Based on the Image: Like the Uprising Strike team, these people look like a four-member Strike team, 3 men and 1 woman, because their outfits look similar. They all have blue shoulder pads with a black or silver armor piece around their neck. We only know the name of one of the characters, the woman. Her name is Kimiko and she took part in the rescue operation that ended up with Ana losing her eye.

Speculation: Since we know that Kimiko worked under Jack Morrison and Ana Amari before Ana lost her eye, I would assume that Kimiko was put into this strike team after the Ana Legacy comic mission. In the image, we can see that the man on the left has a beret with the Overwatch logo on it which makes me think that he was the strike team commander/strike team captain. They might have gone on missions specifically against Null Sector, or maybe Talon, similarly to the Uprising strike team. I haven't been able to find any information on any of the other characters, but I am going to guess what their role would be. From left to right: DPS, DPS, Tank, Support.

Overwatch 2 Theories: Possible Old Guard Team

Anyways, I will be working on another possible character post soon, but I am going to be making a correction to one of my other posts first. While researching for this post, I learned some new information about a photo I used before. The correction will be out, probably, tomorrow.

The Battle of Cable Street took place on Sunday 4 October 1936 in Cable Street, as a result of a march by the British Union of Fascists led by Oswald Mosley. Anti-fascist protesters, including local Jewish, socialist, anarchist, Irish and communist groups, clashed with the Metropolitan Police, who attempted to remove the barricades erected to stop the march.
