How about Angel in Disguise (1940)?
whoever recommended this... you're a genius
i really like this because apparently tadc has biblical references in it (such as the dinner scene at the end being a reference to the last supper) so an angel being the theme of the song fits pretty well
this also works really well in the context of buttonblossom for tons of reasons which i'd love to explain but ehhhh i'd like to see what other interpretations people come up with!
(if this is the one from the film "It All Came True," of course. if i've been looking at the wrong one and getting the wrong ideas i will be sad.)

ragatha and pomni are literally raggedy ann and babette. there is no debate.
i have never watched the Raggedy Ann musical but the compilations on youtube of raggedy andy (and especially that one of raggedy ann practically simping for babette) have definitely convinced me... so i might watch it when i get the chance!
also...
it's KILLING me right now that pomni isn't tall enough (and that her hair isn't long enough) for this scene to be recreated with her and ragatha... but one could dream.
